Accustomed to Asian all-you-can-eat restaurants, we wanted to try a new establishment. In short, my experience is quite mixed.
To explain my rating, I will give you my opinion in 3 points and present the context.
For context, we came Saturday evening for my wife's birthday, three people.
The kitchen
The food was good and there were quite a few dishes that were out of the ordinary, options that you don't usually find in other restaurants of the same style.
The service
There was only one person speaking French, which is not necessarily a problem. However, the tablet and the ordering software were poorly translated into French, making it difficult to understand what we were going to eat. Regarding speed, the service was a little slow overall, with around 5-7 minutes of waiting per "round". The servers were friendly, polite and courteous, so nothing to report on that front. We waited almost 30 minutes for the ice cream, which is a shame, especially knowing that the scoops are prepared in advance. But an oversight can happen quickly, or a purchase order can get lost, so it's not that serious, just unfortunate.
The atmosphere
We are in a restaurant where we feel good. The atmosphere with dimmed lights is pleasant, the chairs and tables are comfortable. As for the cleanliness of the room and toilets, there was nothing to complain about.
Good to know: there is no cutlery except for desserts, otherwise it's baguettes only, so you have to practice 😁 (perhaps by asking, it would have been possible, but not speaking French, we didn't dare to ask).
The major problem of the evening, which for me will mean that I will not go back there again: we had it for €118.70 for 3 with a drink each. When paying, we indicated that we wanted to simply divide by 3, and that I would pay 2 parts while my friend would pay the remaining part. The waiter tells me 40€ and asks me if it's good, I tell him yes. So he made me pay 2×40€, or 80€, and he made my friend pay 40€. We therefore paid 120€ instead of 118.70€. The problem is not the €1.30 extra, but rather the fact of not paying what we really owed, but in a roundabout way a little more. I wonder if this is a regular practice, because €2 multiplied by 50 or 100 tables represents a considerable amount per day and even more per month.
In conclusion, the experience was not so negative, even rather positive: the food is good, the service was decent although a little slow, and the cleanliness of the restaurant seemed impeccable to me. However, at the end, when it came time to check out, paying more than expected really turned me off and totally deterred me from going back in the future.
I used to really like the restaurant, but the quality of the food has declined. The sushi rice unfortunately has no taste, which in my opinion is what makes sushi so good. The restrooms are terrible; very dirty (both the toilet and the walls). The toilets are slanted against the wall—why? As someone who uses crutches, the bathroom was very difficult to reach (there are no accessible restrooms either). The food looks very good, and with enough soy sauce, it tasted delicious, too. The drinks were excellent. The service was friendly. The interior is nice. Conclusion: Next time I'll go somewhere else for sushi. (:
We just wanted plates, no drama 😳
For my birthday, I went to the restaurant with my family – eight people in total – and sat in a separate room. The visit was even recommended by the owner, which made the disappointment all the greater.
Up to a certain point, we were served friendly and attentively by a waitress. As the evening drew to a close, we wanted to ask the nearest waiter, a young man with glasses, for plates for the cake.
One of our group made himself known with a gesture and a brief word – as best the space allowed, as we were sitting without visual contact with the main area. The waiter, who had also served us earlier, reacted irritably: "I'm only human. Can't you see I'm busy?" and "The way you talk to me is completely unacceptable." Irritated by his statement, the next question was whether there was a problem. He seemed to want to demand understanding – by insisting on respectful treatment, but in a way that showed little respect himself.
Our simple request was thus invalidated, and we turned back to the waitress. What remained was an uncomfortable silence at the table – the mood was ruined 🙂
Despite communicating in a language familiar to him, the professionalism one would normally expect from service was lacking at this particular moment. Even though service can be busy, one still expects that personal frustrations aren't taken out on the guest 😉
The food was solid, but unfortunately, with a bitter aftertaste left by that waiter with the glasses.
We ordered
1. lemon chicken rice
which has no lemon flavour at all, more like a Chinese Wok, and it’s Very oily. (Eatable)
2. Pad Thai
Worst pad Thai I have ever had …it’s really disappointed. Lots of soy beans are freshly without fried together with noodle and pieces of peanuts are aside which supposed to be crashed and sprinkled on it….the worst part is the noodle is way toooooo sweet, no other flavour at all only sweet !!! I almost feel I am sick while eating it or I’ll be sick from it ….
I love pad Thai so whenever I visited Thailand I always ordered this dish or even in any Thailand restaurant in Europe, I always eat this, and didn’t have any bad experience yet but until today ……
sorry to leave a bad comment but it really really very upset to have bad experiences especially paid money to have untasted food….
3. sushi
Didn’t expect so much since it’s not authentic Japanese restaurant …
Conclusion is don’t recommend at all !!!!!!! Go to the corner eat Korean food or Chinese wok whatever will be better than this one ….
That this place has a 4.5 shows that these reviews are gamed. Sushi is tasteless, rice is poorly cooked, service is indifferent. Drinks were good. Prices are low. Beware, one gets what one pays for!
Sweet place, we traveled an hour to eat running sushi. With a reservation we got to our table pretty quickly. Here we were asked what we wanted to drink, it was then brought to us and then we didn't hear anything from the waiters until we paid. 😅😅 The sushi itself is very delicious, I just found that there was very little choice on the line at times, you have to be patient. 1.5 hours later a completely new creation came onto the production line, I was already full... and without a drink it was 45€, of course the individual prices depend on the colors of the plates, quite a hefty price😅 well, you don't do that every day.
In any case, get an invoice -
As always, the food was delicious and the service was always polite and attentive. Unfortunately, we discovered afterwards that we had paid about €10 too much.
The price was communicated to us verbally by the waitress, we then gave a tip and on the way home we realized that that couldn't be right. That was the case.
It can happen sometimes - but we'll get the receipt next time.
Otherwise, as always, delicious! Ramen, side dish, salmon - all fresh and delicious!
Great/relatively new sushi shop in Kassel's western district.
Beautifully decorated/plenty of tables/great historic room with high ceilings!
The sushi was excellent/the tastiest sushi I've ever eaten.
The homemade iced teas were delicious!
The waitresses were very young/the young woman was very nice and attentive/the guys were a bit quick to clear up and not quite as friendly/hence one star deducted!
The food arrived quickly and was beautifully presented!
We'd love to come back! A real asset to the western district!
