Excellent service. The sommelier's wine selection enhances the evening with perfectly coordinated accompaniment. The team is not only excellently trained, but also puts their hearts into the matter. The service is humorous, individual and professional -- just as masterful as the cuisine itself.
Wonderful little hotel, located in the middle of Neustadt and right on the market square.
Great breakfast and very nice staff.
Unfortunately, this hotel does not have an elevator or other options to get to the first and second floors.
The restaurant reopened on September 16, 2020 after a break of almost 6 months. Maybe that was also the reason for the failed performance. In any case, I have to strongly advise against it for the following reasons.
Time: Ordered 4 of 7 courses with wine accompaniment. Dinner took a whopping 5.5 hours. This is absolutely unacceptable and inexcusable. The dishes were all cleverly prepared, impeccably prepared with the finest ingredients, even if not everything met my personal taste. The wine pairing was disappointing. Not only were the wines served much earlier than the food, but the quality/quantity of the wines could have been better considering the price (45 EUR for 4 x 0.1L). I'm also not sure if it was really 0.1L. When we finally got the bill after 5.5 hours at half past midnight, completely exhausted, I was shocked by the price of 9 EUR for a 0.75 liter bottle of water. That's sick! If you spend over 300 EUR on the meal, you can expect to be given a jug of still water for free. This is absolutely outrageous. Especially since we're not talking about any Himalayan mountain spring water, but about seltzer.
I'm sorry, but we will never visit this restaurant again and I can also advise all other guests to look for other star restaurants.
Dear team around Martin Scharff,
We would first like to thank you for the fantastic food in this unique location - both were really enjoyable and impressed us. Unfortunately, the unacceptable service significantly marred our experience at your hotel.
To classify the rating:
We ordered five identical 6-course menus and a specially selected wine pairing. A consultation was probably not possible due to time constraints, a language barrier or a lack of knowledge among the team. The serving was completely wordless. When we asked what we were enjoying, we were referred to a colleague who simply replied, “I don’t know, I’m new here.” Only after the first course was bread served together with “so Kreuterbutter” – the name of which was probably just as meaningless as the service.
Only after three requests were we given the wine list, and then the wine we ordered with the first course was missing. After choosing five wines from the menu, we learned - while the food was already being served - that three of these wines were no longer available. A circumstance that can of course occur, but we would have expected active and transparent communication about it.
For courses 2 and 3 everything was mostly working, apart from the fact that the staff was constantly absent and didn't seem to know what to bring to our table. The main course, which was absolutely convincing in terms of taste, was also marred by the continued disorganization: When the dishes were already covered, the staff was still desperately looking for the right wine to accompany the dish that had already been eaten - "yes, the colleague is still looking" was the answer. After the main course had been finished for around 10 minutes, we were only offered a simple white wine as an alternative instead of the planned Pinot Noir from Franz Keller GG, which should have been served with the veal. With a wine that costs over €200 per bottle, we would have liked it to be served with the meal. The previous wines were just placed on the table and had to be opened and poured yourself. In principle, we are open to “participatory gastronomy”, but we would have liked a word or two about the product. We also think the gesture of a first taste in the presence of a waiter/waitress is appropriate. We definitely believe that this house stores its wines perfectly, but if a wine doesn't quite suit you, you can talk directly, quickly reschedule and don't have to talk to each other afterwards.
At this point we were forced to end the evening early - which was particularly painful as the occasion was a special birthday present for which we had traveled from abroad. To our astonishment, the guest who received the gift was simply greeted with a “Sorry, brother!” But happy birthday!” put off. Although we were ultimately only charged €750 instead of the estimated €2000 (courses 5 and 6 and the corresponding wines were not provided either), the overall impression was extremely disappointing.
We very much hope that this is an unfortunate isolated case or that other guests perceive your gastronomy concept in a different light. However, for us personally there is no reason to give your restaurant a second chance.
Best regards,
Fabian Straske
We were there for the first time and enjoyed a very good meal/7 course menu with perfect flavor coordination.
The selection of drinks is great and very extensive.
The service was excellent and the boss had perfect knowledge of the wines.
What softens the overall impression: Unfortunately, the sanitary facilities of a star restaurant are not adequate.
Empty wine bottles on the window sills and wine boxes on the way to the toilet don't look very elegant.
The service is nothing short of wonderful. May God grant you good health
But I wish the food order could be prepared faster, because it takes an hour for it to be ready 😥🌸
Probably the worst Michelin experiences i’ve had.
Food was okay at best. I had a Salmon with 0 flavor, hard to explain but it tasted like water but not good water. I had a bird (can’t remember exact type) that was cooked dry, and a couple dishes I just couldn’t finish.
Wine, first Michelin ive ever been to without a wine pairing option. Even then ordering individuals they had limited by the glass options, and what they did advertise was just all of their own brand. No sommelier on site and waiter knew nothing about the wines.
Pace and service; the pace was terribly slow. The dishes are tapas size so finish quickly and then a LONG gap before next course, it was very unbalanced. Also there were multiple dishes that were just dropped off with no explanation, this is a very common thing in Michelins.
I would maybe consider this a nice regular restaurant, but in terms of Michelin standards I think it is quite terrible and would not pay Michelin prices again for this.
