During our trip to my hometown Frankfurt, we decided to take an excursion to Mainz, the capital of Rheinland-Pfalz. It was lunch time, and I wanted some food from the Eastern Mediterranean Area. There were no Balkan places close, so I picked a Greek place. Delphi is hidden in a back alley but easy to find with a map app. It was a hot summer day. There was inside and outside seating. As it was already 2 pm, there were not many guests left. Some were sitting inside, some outside. We entered the venue and had to go all the way to the back to see any staff. I asked if we could sit anywhere, and we were told that they close at 3 pm. I knew that, although usually this means that you cannot enter after 3. Strange, especially for a restaurant with folks from that region. The whole staff was unusually unfriendly for a Greek place. Instead of the usual family like greeting and service, we had cold and dour waiters. The food was tasty though my pork souvlaki as well as my husband's pork steak was very tough. Also, the place does not take credit cards, only German debit cards, which was not uncommon 10 years ago but is rare these days.

I have always loved this restaurant. But what happened? We had ordered a table for 5 people, we got one for 4 and a table for 2 with a walk-through. Ergo, a well-groomed conversation only involved talking loudly. Unfortunately there was no liver on the seasonal winter menu, which I personally find a shame (always very tasty) Unfortunately the prices don't match the food. I ordered 3 minced steaks with Metaxa sauce, I got 2. The food was only lukewarm, my small beer turned out to be a large beer. The taste was good. The missing minced steak was offered to me 15 minutes later when my cutlery had already been cleared away. Sorry, no one will see me there any time soon

Oh dear, that's disappointing! Unfortunately, the Greek restaurant only reflects at most 5% of the diversity and richness of Greek cuisine. You won't find many side dishes that you would enjoy in Greece here. Most of the side dishes offered here are probably only known in Germany and are not Greek. The choice of food seems rather limited and uninspiring, mainly fast food dishes that are simply served on a plate and offer a limited taste experience. Although the quality of the food is not bad, the menu could reflect much more Greek tradition and creativity. The prices seem too high compared to the quality offered, and unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired. Authentic Greek is definitely different. There definitely could have been more!

Für das Yelp-Treffen im August hatten wir uns das Metaxa in Laatzen ausgesucht. Das Restaurant hat eine Menge Tische im Außenbereich vor dem Restaurant, welche auch zum größten Teil überdacht sind. Wir sind dort an einem schwülen Mittwochabend um 18:00 aufgeschlagen und bekamen auch einen Tisch im Außenbereich. Die Getränkebestellung kam recht zügig und wurde von einem Ouzo für jeden begleitet. Was wir zu dem Zeitpunkt noch nicht wussten war, dass es für eine lange Zeit das letzte Getränk sein würde. Nachdem wir die Speisen bestellt hatten, kamen die Vorspeisen und der Beilagensalat recht zügig. Der Tsatsiki (4,6€), wie er hier heißt, war ok. Das Brot, was dazu gereicht wurde, war Standardware, wie es bei vielen Griechen serviert wird. Der Saganaki (9,1€) meiner Begleitung war nur lauwarm, vorfabriziert und wurde nur aufgewärmt. Beim Abräumen der Vorspeisen übersah der Service, dass 3 von uns leere Gläser vor sich stehen hatten. Es dauerte insgesamt 25 Minuten und 2 Besuche des Service an unserem Tisch, bis es uns gelang, eine weitere Getränkebestellung auszulösen, allerdings nicht ohne patzige Bemerkungen des Service zum Thema. Ca. 1 Stunde nach den Vorspeisen, wir waren bereits seit 1,5 Stunden im Restaurant, kamen dann auch endlich die Hauptgerichte. Der Grillteller (15,9€) meiner Begleitung war bis auf das trockene Fleisch am Spieß in Ordnung und auch von der Portionsgröße ausreichend. Vom Bifteki (16,1€) konnte man das allerdings nicht sagen. Das war das kleinste Bifteki, was ich bis jetzt in der Region Hannover serviert bekommen hatte. Die Käsefüllung war fest und stand wie eine 1 und war recht geschmacklos. Ich kann mich nicht erinnern, wann ich jemals von einem Bifteki in einem griechischen Restaurant so enttäuscht gewesen bin. Allerdings passte das in das Gesamtbild. Ein launiger Service, welcher an anderen Tischen lieber mit den Stammgästen plaudert und bevorzugt bedient, als mal zu gucken, ob er nicht noch ein paar Getränke verkaufen kann, und dabei ist das Essen in meinen Augen noch nicht einmal Durchschnitt. Da das Restaurant, zumindest im Außenbereich, gut gefüllt war, besteht allerdings auch keine Notwendigkeit für die Eigentümer, Neukunden für das Restaurant zu begeistern. Da wir dieses Restaurant bestimmt nicht wieder besuchen werden, geben 2 Punkte, welche sich das Restaurant auch redlich verdient hat …

It used to be very good and the portions were large. This time the portion was very small and the quality of the meat was poorer. The price was also higher again. Profit maximization times two! When paying, the boss wanted to make his own tip. Screws and dowels are hanging out of the wall in the restaurant. The restaurant is simply getting old and needs to be renovated. That was the last time there for us. There are many good Greeks (e.g. Hercules II).

I've known the restaurant since I was a child, I ate there a lot with my parents and often order something to take away. Unfortunately, I've now noticed that not only have the prices risen, no, the portions are getting smaller and smaller, where you would normally eat at the restaurant Chicken pan has 2-3 chicken breast fillets on the plate, there is only 1 chicken breast fillet, the same thing with garlic potatoes, there used to be a lot more, I wonder why I gave a tip, the fact that you pay more for what you get for less seems normal everywhere to make everything more expensive and at the same time serve less.

The staff is very friendly and attentive. I haven't experienced such good service as here in a long time. We'd love to come back

I have to hand this to the Germans. Two copious ones for little money serving meals with 2 glasses (of 400ml) of beer, 2 ouzos (of 2cl) and a glass of red wine (of 200ml) plus dessert ice cream for just over 50 euros. How do they do that there? I get the idea that it has become a grabflation in the hospitality industry in the Netherlands.

Pizza has shrunk😤 Instead of the 28 pizzas, pizzas with a diameter of almost 25cm were delivered. So order and pay for large ones and get small ones...
