Metaxa greek cuisine in Laatzen

This was my first time at Metaxa, and it will probably stay that way. The food was mediocre. No bread was served with the appetizer (salad, soup). It was only brought when I asked for it. The tomato soup was clearly from a packet. There was no salt or pepper on the table. I'm not even talking about olive oil. It seems they don't want any more seasoning. Fries were served without mayo or ketchup. Only when I asked for it were small packets brought out. They were then charged €0.60 each! A disgrace, in my opinion. I've never experienced anything like that before. The typical Greek dishes were nothing special either. There are definitely better Greek restaurants in the area.

Overall, it's very tasty and reasonably priced. The interior is a bit small, so reservations are recommended.

Metaxa offers you a Greek highlight. A culinary delight of the highest order. Whether it's the starter, salad, or bread, not to mention the main course. The meat and the side dishes are simply perfect. All in all, a Greek dream. We'll be back. 1000 stars with dots 🌟

A very hidden location; you wouldn't expect to find such a great restaurant in this area. We knew the restaurant from a visit to Hanover, where we stumbled across the Greek restaurant by chance. The ambiance is absolutely fantastic. Modern decor, simple yet elegant, with clean restrooms. Friendly service, and we were actually able to reserve a table yesterday for 2 p.m. today, even though they close for lunch at 3 p.m. The food was absolutely fantastic again. The souvlaki was tender, the gyros were crispy, and the bifteki were juicy. Metaxa's seasoning seems to be different than what you'd expect at other Greek restaurants. It's more subtle yet intense; they obviously use a lot of fresh herbs. We will definitely be back ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It is very cozy outside or inside.

The staff doesn't seem to be happy about paying customers. The gyro is inedible, and the sauces from a jar are laced with canned mushrooms. It was quite tasty 10 years ago, but now I can't recommend the place at all.

Very poor service and unfriendly. The thick, raw onion on the food was careless. I'm used to it differently: thin slices and sautéed. The food is salty, and no one even asks if you'd like something to drink. We're now going to a place where you're still treated like a guest.

We sat outside in perfect weather. The decor and lanterns concealed the restaurant's location on the edge of the commercial area quite well. The service and food were excellent, including the tender and flavorful meat. And all at very fair prices.

I tried Metaxa for the first time and it was really good. I had the Fisch plata and it was good, although I would have preferred the fish and squid to be freshly baked and not breaded.

For me, Metaxa is the best Greek restaurant for miles around. The food is always fresh and delicious every time. The atmosphere is relaxed; you just feel at home. For me, there's nothing to complain about – a truly great Greek restaurant.

No, here you're almost thrown out even though you haven't finished eating, and they just present you with the bill. I would never recommend this restaurant.

The food is really quite good and delicious, and special requests are accommodated. I once had a complaint and they immediately replaced it, which I thought was great. The staff often seem a bit grumpy, perhaps due to their mentality. The interior is beautifully decorated, but the acoustics are sometimes a bit loud. The outdoor area is large, but since it's completely covered, I personally find the many smokers annoying. Therefore, even in summer, it's recommended (unfortunately) to sit inside.

We ate there, and I have to say, it's nothing special. Tzatziki has to be ordered separately. I had a gratinated dish with feta cheese. I was expecting it to be gratinated in a pan. But okay, we said if you want tzatziki, you have to order it with it. The portion wasn't that big either. Soft drinks were standard-sized from 0.33L bottles. A bottle was served with it, without ice or lemon. For me, a one-time visit.

Eating lovelessly. Bifetki was okay, as were the fries. Waiting time is OK. Metaxasauce is extremely diluted, at least that's what it tastes like. The tomato soup, yes, what else can I say about that... the worst packet soup, own brand, doesn't taste good. Artificial and you can taste it. As already mentioned, the meat was okay, just a little too salty in my opinion. The sauces 0 seasoned. The salad and every restaurateur should know what goes in there. This Greek is neither bad nor good. There are some construction sites when it comes to the food, but it should be possible to improve it. Waiters seem disinterested. Am I full? Yes! Am I coming again? No. Thanks anyway :)

Trying Greek food for the first time in Germany I'm not sure if it's Greek style since I ate the grilled assortment, but it tastes good.

This is the biggest rip-off in a long time, 10€ for a small plate of spaghetti that couldn't even feed a small child. Such a Xara store WOW. Don't put that mascara on my head again. Otherwise I'll bring a rip-off to your store.

Since I emigrated in 2023 and there is all the food in the country of emigration that you can get in Germany, except Greek food, I missed the taste. I was all the more pleased to discover that I also got good Greek food when I visited the Hanover Fair. My special request (a plate of gyros with cheese) was accommodated. The gyro tasted even better than expected.

The meeting point after training until our volleyball division is dissolved. For me alone, about 30 years. Now and then today. And nothing has changed in terms of the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. You can sit inside and outside. Really recommended!

Modern and very stylish. 👍 The service is also very friendly and accommodating without being intrusive. Lars but not least, let's eat. The salad is very fresh. And the dressing is excellent. The Giros is awesome 🔨. Nice cross and juicy. Likewise the Suzuki, grilled to perfection. I also like that it was rice that wasn't dry. But very juicy and simply delicious. And that there are also fries. This way I don't have to choose a side dish. We are completely satisfied.

Wir waren heute im Metaxa essen und haben ein Gericht mit Schweinefilet bestellt. Enttäuschend mussten wir feststellen, dass wir definitiv kein Filet bekommen haben. Nach langem diskutieren ohne Einsicht des Gastgebers, haben wir hier einen offensichtlichen Betrug festgestellt, da ein Filetgericht viel mehr kostet und wir es schließlich nicht bekommen haben. Bifteki und Gyros waren teilweise trocken und genau wie die kretanischen Kartoffeln auch, gekauft.

We love the food at Metaxa. An owner-operated restaurant that's second to none. EVERYTHING is homemade and truly delicious. We've tried everything on the menu, and everything is great. Even the skewer is hand-stitched by the chef himself. It doesn't get any better than this.

In Germany I always prefer Greek and Italian kichen. Metaxa is a tasty one. The steak is better that most steak houses.

Für das Yelp-Treffen im August hatten wir uns das Metaxa in Laatzen ausgesucht. Das Restaurant hat eine Menge Tische im Außenbereich vor dem Restaurant, welche auch zum größten Teil überdacht sind. Wir sind dort an einem schwülen Mittwochabend um 18:00 aufgeschlagen und bekamen auch einen Tisch im Außenbereich. Die Getränkebestellung kam recht zügig und wurde von einem Ouzo für jeden begleitet. Was wir zu dem Zeitpunkt noch nicht wussten war, dass es für eine lange Zeit das letzte Getränk sein würde. Nachdem wir die Speisen bestellt hatten, kamen die Vorspeisen und der Beilagensalat recht zügig. Der Tsatsiki (4,6€), wie er hier heißt, war ok. Das Brot, was dazu gereicht wurde, war Standardware, wie es bei vielen Griechen serviert wird. Der Saganaki (9,1€) meiner Begleitung war nur lauwarm, vorfabriziert und wurde nur aufgewärmt. Beim Abräumen der Vorspeisen übersah der Service, dass 3 von uns leere Gläser vor sich stehen hatten. Es dauerte insgesamt 25 Minuten und 2 Besuche des Service an unserem Tisch, bis es uns gelang, eine weitere Getränkebestellung auszulösen, allerdings nicht ohne patzige Bemerkungen des Service zum Thema. Ca. 1 Stunde nach den Vorspeisen, wir waren bereits seit 1,5 Stunden im Restaurant, kamen dann auch endlich die Hauptgerichte. Der Grillteller (15,9€) meiner Begleitung war bis auf das trockene Fleisch am Spieß in Ordnung und auch von der Portionsgröße ausreichend. Vom Bifteki (16,1€) konnte man das allerdings nicht sagen. Das war das kleinste Bifteki, was ich bis jetzt in der Region Hannover serviert bekommen hatte. Die Käsefüllung war fest und stand wie eine 1 und war recht geschmacklos. Ich kann mich nicht erinnern, wann ich jemals von einem Bifteki in einem griechischen Restaurant so enttäuscht gewesen bin. Allerdings passte das in das Gesamtbild. Ein launiger Service, welcher an anderen Tischen lieber mit den Stammgästen plaudert und bevorzugt bedient, als mal zu gucken, ob er nicht noch ein paar Getränke verkaufen kann, und dabei ist das Essen in meinen Augen noch nicht einmal Durchschnitt. Da das Restaurant, zumindest im Außenbereich, gut gefüllt war, besteht allerdings auch keine Notwendigkeit für die Eigentümer, Neukunden für das Restaurant zu begeistern. Da wir dieses Restaurant bestimmt nicht wieder besuchen werden, geben 2 Punkte, welche sich das Restaurant auch redlich verdient hat …

Very long waiting time for the food.

Food tasted good, could have been hotter. Portion was enough for me, but I wasn't offered the usual Uzo at our regular Greek restaurant.

If it doesn't feel like the "Greek next door"... The atmosphere seems rather cool. Despite the restaurant being busy, we still managed to get a seat. We waited almost an hour for the food. The wait wasn't worth it in terms of taste. Tomato rice with no real taste, the gyro gratinated with sheep's cheese was not gratinated. The taste of the Metaxa sauce was reminiscent of a conventional cream sauce. The fries are no revelation. Tsatziki are only available to order. Then the portion costs just under 5€. That sounds like a high profit margin. The souvlaki, on the other hand, was well seasoned. However, if you are very hungry you won't be satisfied here. The carelessly put together portions are clearly too small. The wait for food was dismissed with: “It’s busy.” I would have expected more. We (2 adults + 2 children) paid €75 for main courses and drinks.

8 of us had gone here for dinner. Pathetic service. Our food took almost 90 mins to come. The people who came before us got served and even left. We are Indians and we were treated badly because of that. The Germans were served well. There was an old uncle , only he seemed decent. When I went after more than an hour to the bar to ask about our food, the healthy lady at the bar told me I have to wait 15-20 mins for food whereas she didn’t know we ordered 1 hour ago. She told me and I quote “you either wait for food or you leave”. IF YOU DONT WANT TO FACE RACISM PLEASE DONT GO HERE (for my fellow INDIANS)

I went to this restaurant yesterday with seven other people. The food was alright but the service was extremely horrible. The staff was extremely rude and unwelcoming. It took them hours to give us our food. However, a table of 10 locals next to us got their food in 30 mins and were served on time continuously. I believe this was extremely racist of them, I do not get how this can happen in this day and age. In addition to this when we asked the staff about the delays in our offer, the american shaped lady at the bar asked us to leave if we were not happy with the wait time. I do not recommend non-locals to go to this restaurant.

The staff is very racist. Ordered our food at 7pm and received it at 9pm even though locals came in later and got their food within 30 mins. The staff was rude when we confronted them about this. Wouldn't recommend any traveller to visit this place. Horrible people.

Die Einrichtung des Restaurant war sehr angenehm und so haben wir den Abend mit Freude begonnen. Leider war der Service nicht sehr freundlich. Die Getränke kamen recht zügig und auch auf die bestellten Gerichte mussten wir nur angemessen warten. Ich habe mir das Gericht "LIDO" Schweinefilet gebraten mit frischer Paprika, Zwiebeln, Champignons in Sauce, mit Wein abgeschmeckt dazu reichen wir Brot und Salat 22,10€ bestellt. Leider war das Essen eine reine Enttäuschung. In der Pfanne schwamm anstelle von Filet ein Schnitzel, von minderer Fleischqualität, zäh und fade. Der Koch hatte sich nicht einmal die Mühe gemacht das Schnitzel zu zerkleinern, um so ein Filet vorzutäuschen. Gemüse konnte ich auch nach vielen Bemühungen nicht finden, es war einfach keines da. Die Sauce war vom Geschmack her undefinierbar. Das dazu gereichte Brot war altbacken. Auch die anderen Gerichte haben nicht gerade Begeisterung hervorgerufen. Somit war der Abend, bis dahin, eine Enttäuschung, Zum Glück fanden wir eine andere Alternative, um den Abend angenehm ausklingen zu lassen. Wir waren das erste Mal aber auch das letzte Mal in diesem Restaurant.

I spontaneously ordered a Limnos grill plate to take away and was thrilled by the quality of the food, everything was as requested, I thought the coleslaw and the red red rice as well as the souvlaki were legendary. The best Greek food in Laatzen, as always a real pleasure

We didn't reserve beforehand but were still able to find a nice place. However, it is probably better to make a reservation on weekends. The ambience is not too exaggerated but still very tastefully decorated. But the food is like a poem, sonorous in the name, wonderfully prepared and the taste... An ode to joy! The very attentive staff were available for every wish and tried to fulfill them. With a contribution that was very reasonably priced, we left the table completely satisfied.

My colleagues and I found Metaxa on my business trip. Despite some negative reviews, we decided to eat here and were not disappointed: the service was quick and friendly, drinks and food came quickly and it tasted very good. The portions were completely sufficient. I chose the beef liver with rice and was thrilled.

We had a group of 6 people for dinner at Metaxa. First of all, I have been coming to Metaxa on and off for several years and have always been very satisfied. But this time it was completely different. The service gave the impression that he actually didn't have much interest in serving guests. It took a while until we were served, then the drinks came, but the food order was only taken after we asked. By the time the food arrived, the drinks had been empty for a long time, and here again we had to be asked to do so. That's why we decided to skip dessert. The food was clearer than I was used to, the quality wasn't as good and the taste didn't match. Only the tzatziki tasted good, as always. Everyone at the table was rather disappointed with the experience.

Ganz ruhig gelegen und mit einem großen Außenbereich ist das Metaxa eigentlich gut geeignet um mit Freunden einen tollen Abend bei sommerlichen Temperaturen zu verbringen. Wer sehr viel Zeit hat kann es hier gerne tun. Der Service ist auch auf Reservierungen nicht vorbereitet und ein fehlendes Besteckset wurde erst auf Nachfrage gebracht. Nach der ersten Runde Getränke und der Aufnahme der Bestellung für die Speisen mussten wir uns die Getränke sehr gut einteilen denn der Service war lange nicht mehr an unserem Tisch gesehen und hat sich lieber auf lange Gespräche an den Tischen mit vermeintlichen Stammgästen aufgehalten. Wartezeiten sind gerade bei gut gefüllten Läden nicht sonderlich schlimm aber eine knappe Stunde ist dann auch bei einem vollen Haus zu viel des Guten. Zumal die Speisen auch nur Standardware sind und bei einigen Gerichten, wie z.B. dem Saganaki, wie lauwarme aufgetaute TK-Ware wirken. Als dann die Speisen endlich serviert wurden kam die nächste Überraschung: so kleine Portionen hatte keiner aus unserer Gruppe jemals gesehen. Immerhin war der Geschmack in Ordnung und hat einen zweiten Stern in der Bewertung gesichert. Die Stimmung in der Gruppe war endgültig gekippt und keiner hatte mehr Lust einen gut angefangenen Abend in diesem Lokal zu beenden. Schnell bezahlen und gehen.

We chose Metaxa in Laatzen for the Yelp meeting in August. The restaurant has a lot of tables outside in front of the restaurant, most of which are covered. We showed up there at 6pm on a muggy Wednesday evening and were given a table outside. The drink order came quite quickly and was accompanied by an ouzo for everyone. What we didn't know at the time was that it would be the last drink for a long time. After we ordered the food, the starters and the side salad came quite quickly. The tzatziki (€4.6), as it is called here, was ok. The bread that was served with it was standard, as is served by many Greeks. The saganaki (9.1€) of my companion was only lukewarm, pre-made and only warmed up. When clearing away the starters, the service overlooked the fact that 3 of us had empty glasses in front of us. It took a total of 25 minutes and 2 visits from the service to our table before we managed to place another drink order, but not without the service's snarky comments on the subject. About 1 hour after the starters, we had already been in the restaurant for 1.5 hours, the main courses finally arrived. The grill plate (15.9€) of my companion was fine apart from the dry meat on the skewer and the portion size was also sufficient. However, the same could not be said about the Bifteki (€16.1). This was the smallest bifteki I had ever been served in the Hanover region. The cheese filling was solid and stood like a 1 and was quite tasteless. I can't remember when I've ever been so disappointed with a bifteki in a Greek restaurant. However, it fit into the overall picture. A cheerful service that prefers to chat with the regulars at other tables and serve them rather than see if they can sell a few more drinks, and in my opinion the food isn't even average. However, since the restaurant was well filled, at least in the outdoor area, there is no need for the owners to attract new customers to the restaurant. Since we definitely won't visit this restaurant again, we give 2 points, which the restaurant really deserves...
