We spent a wonderful evening at the Gasthaus Gohr.
The service was super friendly and attentive.
The food was beautifully prepared.
The Friday potato pancakes are highly recommended, and the meat dishes are also top-quality.
Friendly and cosy atmosphere. The food was well prepared and cooked. The restaurant is renowned for its fish dishes. I enjoyed Pork fillet . It was delicious. We had a delightful evening. The lady who served us was the owner and she had a great sense of humour and made us feel very welcome.
Service was ok.
But a rump steak as flat as a Viennese schnitzel. I've never had anything like this come under the knife. And the prices are astronomical.
ADDENDUM: I was there on March 2, 2020. It was still open at that time. And I don't understand why people comment so rudely on a criticism of the bad food instead of using it as an opportunity to improve the offering.
The fact remains: I have never had such a flat rump steak on my plate.
The food there today was a disaster, the food was cold, the meat was raw, you couldn't eat it, I let it go back and had to be told that the minced meat had to be like that, an unparalleled impudence. Once I ate there, never again. I can't recommend it.
The best moist fish I've ever had!
You can't compare it with all the dried fish snot that's otherwise around.
P.S:
Late in the evening, while having a nice chat with the head waiter, he revealed (a generous tip required) that the boss gets up at 3 a.m. every 1st Friday of the month to fish for the wettest fish from the Sellmannsbach. You may only work with vegan live bait! This keeps the fish moist even after weeks.
Conclusion: FINALLY! Gelsenkirchen can have wet fish!
The lady who served the entire lobby area was fantastic in her understanding and execution of her duties! I've rarely experienced such a service person. And the dishes were of such high quality that they absolutely justified their prices. Examples? The salmon on a baked potato...the Greek salad...It's a shame I live too far away.
