From a rough diamond to a new jewel in Cuxhaven
As a rule, I am always cautious about giving overwhelmingly positive reviews, especially when too many top ratings for the establishment being reviewed, in this case the “Esszimmer” restaurant, could lead to increasing demand. Nevertheless, in this case I will be very happy to do it.
The name “dining room” sounds simple and comfortable. When you enter the dining room, you will find a stylish, minimalist yet comfortably furnished guest room.
I feel comfortable here because of the relaxed and natural people, also known as guests.
This is due to the friendly, warm welcome from Annemike Schmeelcke, who is responsible for the service. She is constantly supported by young, committed service staff, so that everything runs smoothly and harmoniously.
If possible, I like to enjoy the 7-course menu that changes every month, although you can of course order less at any time. A 3-course menu is offered for a basic price of €70, each additional course for €12.50. However, given the very creative choice of food that I eagerly look forward to every month, I don't want to miss out on a course.
Because what the entire team around Timm Schmeelcke in the kitchen and Annemike conjures up on the tables every month is very imaginative and of remarkable quality.
The fact that the well-known restaurant testers from the various well-known companies have not yet discovered and rated this gem is a big mystery to me.
If I were a Michelin tester, Timm's cooking skills would be worthy of at least a "Bib Gourmand" if not one star for me. So far, however, the dining room has not been recognized anywhere there, which is incomprehensible to me. But perhaps this is great luck for the many (regular) guests who would like to enjoy the highest quality cuisine here on a regular basis at fair prices. Since the dining room is currently only open from Thursday to Saturday, a spontaneous attempt to make a reservation could probably become more and more difficult over time.
In my opinion, if you are lucky enough to still be able to enjoy the January menu, you should definitely not miss the first course on the menu, the “Solei”. It would be a sin.
Sounds simple, but what Timm conjures up on the plate and Annemike charmingly serves is not only a perfect feast for the eyes, but also a great vegetarian taste experience.
In my opinion, Timm is a virtuoso master of all types of cuisine, be it fish, meat or vegetarian dishes. But every time, even though I'm not a vegetarian, his vegetarian compositions are THE highlights in his varied menus for me.
That's why I'm particularly looking forward to the month of February, when the dining room will, among other things, offer a purely vegetarian menu.
I don't want to miss this menu, which hopefully also includes 7 vegetarian courses. Most likely one highlight will chase the next. I am excited.
By the way: The drinks menu is extensive and offers a sufficient selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for everyone at reasonable prices.
I wish the entire team continued such creative culinary ideas and a continued success with so many relaxed people as guests, even if the restaurant will one day receive the long-deserved awards from various restaurant critics.

My son (9) wanted to try the chocolate cake because he wasn't sure if he liked it. He got a small piece of cake on a powdered plate with chocolate sauce ❤️ . His verdict: the best chocolate cake in the world!
Despite stating that the store should be open according to Google, it was closed on December 27, 2024. Thank you for that.
The owner's answer also speaks volumes - you immediately notice how important the customer is here.
“ButterBeiDieFische” seems to be understood here in a rather one-sided way. And by the way: We are definitely not on a first-name basis!
Everything is perfect here, the excellent service staff, for example Mr. Conguar. A very fine person. It's always a great pleasure to be able to eat there and receive such great service. The food is a delight at market prices. Highly recommended.
The food was really wonderful 😋 No joke, I've eaten gyros in a variety of places but this restaurant perfected it...
I can only advise everyone to come and eat here...

I was here for the first time in the evening on January 31, 2025. I ordered the fish platter with pollock, redfish and cod fillets. One hundred percent recommendation.
