Gasthaus zur Grenze in Cuxhaven

We were invited to Oktoberfest with friends over the weekend. I can only say we had a really great time. The festival was a great success. Great decorations, a fantastic DJ, and the drinks and food were top-notch. We definitely felt well looked after and will definitely be back.

An inn with soul – here you feel transported back to another time. Everything is authentic, honest, and warm. No frills, just genuine, lived-in hospitality. Highly recommended!

I spent three nights here and felt very comfortable. The inn is very cozy and still has an authentic charm of the past. It was nice and quiet, and the price, service, and quality were just right for me. What I particularly liked: There was no TV in my room. In the evenings, after long hikes through the beautiful surroundings, I could mingle with locals and other guests in the guest room for a nightcap (or was it two? ;-) ). Compliments to the friendly hosts, who were always very attentive and easily accommodated my request for a second pillow. I'm already looking forward to the next time!

My partner rented this accommodation and wanted to surprise me with a short trip for my birthday. He succeeded, but unfortunately, it was a negative, but let's start with the positive. We were warmly welcomed and escorted to our room. The beds were clean, but that was all. The shared bathroom is located in the hallway, with one shower for everyone and a toilet. The cleanliness of this bathroom was simply terrible; the shower was so dirty that I decided not to use it. There were yellow deposits on the silicone; I lifted the anti-slip mat in it and almost felt like vomiting. Simply horrible; there was what felt like weeks of dust on the toilet rim in the bathroom and in the other toilet in the hallway. The terrace and garden were a tragedy; the common area, including the pub, was anything but well-maintained and clean. The pub patrons took some getting used to; one elderly gentleman even brought his dogs into the bar and into the pub; sometimes you had to walk over or around the dogs because they were right in the way. All in all, I would definitely not spend my time off here again.

Despite the low price... we'll consider this a unique experience... They've skimped on cleanliness. Service, well, wasn't really there... We would have preferred to skip breakfast. The conservatory (breakfast room) would have been a highlight... But the renovation backlog is clearly visible there, along with numerous dead insects and dust from the past few weeks.

We tried glamping for the first time and loved it. The very friendly welcome and the delicious breakfast were also amazing. We'll be back!

Something different We were on our way to Heligoland and were looking for a place to stay for the night. The tent behind the Gasthaus zur Grenze was just right for us: very friendly hosts, affordable accommodation on comfortable mattresses, a short walk to the banks of the Elbe with a swimming opportunity, and dinner and breakfast available for booking. All in all, a very pleasant stopover.

It's a 200-year-old house that the owners are currently trying to revive from its deep sleep. The parlor is authentically 1970s, as are the rooms. The bathroom is off the hallway, as was common in the past. The owners are very friendly. We felt well looked after, even though we were only there for one night. The couple told us that they recently took over the business and are now carefully renovating the house. We wish the family every success.

I needed a place to stay overnight in Altenbruch at very short notice. The first contact on the phone was super pleasant. The welcome was also very warm. My wishes were anticipated (thanks for the two waffles with strawberries and cream). The inn, with its large and lovingly tended garden, is truly charming. I'm excited to see what events you'll be hosting soon. If I'm ever in your area on a bike tour again, I'll definitely stop by. Best, Tina

The Gasthaus zur Grenze has a beautiful camping area and friendly people. :) Located directly on the North Sea Cycle Route, the place is perfect for bike rides, days at the beach, and evenings with stick bread around the campfire. We'd love to come back!

We spent four nights at the Gasthaus zur Grenze, both in rooms and with tents. We felt completely at home, thanks in large part to our accommodating hosts! The family that has taken over the business goes to great lengths to ensure all guests have a pleasant stay and was always available to help with any questions or problems. We'd love to come back! Traditional, quaint, quiet, and with a very friendly atmosphere. The location is perfect for excursions to places like Cuxhaven, Freiburg, and Otterndorf—just 800 meters from the dike and its attractive seaside resort. I felt very comfortable there and will definitely return.
