I have an incredible 4 (!!!) Persian restaurants in my city and each time I have to drive 60 km so that I can eat at Babam.
Words cannot describe how good the food tastes here. It takes a poet ala Hafez or philosopher to describe the taste and quality in this restaurant.
No matter what you order from the menu: everything tastes incredibly good. I usually order Mirza Ghazemi as a starter and Sultani as my main course. But now I just try every dish on the menu. It doesn't matter what you order: everything tastes damn good... Absolutely crazy!
But that's not all, dear friends: No matter when you eat here, there are always 3 to 5 people working in the kitchen. I go to the bathroom to wash my hands and my food is already on the table when I come back. It doesn't matter how full the store is. That alone is worth 5 stars.
I feel sorry for the people who walk past on the street and have no idea what they are missing. Without exaggerating, I can confirm 100% that this is the best Persian in Europe. Yes in Europe. I've eaten with Persians in Turkey, Greece, Georgia and France: no shop comes close to Babam.
After every meal I would love to run into the kitchen and kiss the chefs' hands.
I wish the people of Frankfurt would appreciate this pearl in the city more.
Only negative point:
I have to drive 60 km so I can eat here. Now I need a new apartment in Frankfurt.
Baba Dametun Garm!
Food very good, ambience nice, service friendly but unfortunately very slow. Waiting 20 minutes until you even get a card, asking if you want fresh pepper, being told yes and then simply never showing up again, etc. These are just things that don't work. Generally, most of the time consisted of waiting and we had our main courses after 2 hours. 4 waiters served us and there was no feeling of responsibility. It was better to re-set the tables for the next day at 11:30 rather than worry about the guests who were still there.
Irish lad at the bar wasn't particularly friendly, made me feel a bit stupid for asking if he spoke English... in a foreign country I feel it's polite to ask somebody first before speaking in English, even if you're in an Irish pub there might be staff that only speak German. Honestly I felt like a bit of an inconvenience ordering my drinks, he seemed fed up judging by the tone he used with me and the fact he didn't smile. However, the pub itself is nice. It is like a classic Irish/English pub, lots of good options to drink, lively atmosphere with outdoor seating and football streaming. Female toilets were clean and nice. Some people complain about the smoking, yes it did smell but it was actually nice to be able to vape indoors, a luxury I haven't seen in the UK, if you don't like it there are other pubs around. There was a German bartender who was very friendly, and I was happy overall with my experience here. Not sure I'd come back though, lots of Irish pubs in the area with friendlier staff. It was ok, if you're in the area and fancy a cigarette with your beer then I recommend it.
Soft tofu stew, beef jerky, and Osam bulgogi are all delicious. All the side dishes are delicious too. The owner was also very friendly, which was nice.
Summary: If you’re looking for authentic Thai cuisine, you’ve come to the wrong place. Kokumy is just another one of those restaurants in the city that focuses solely on Instagrammability. The menu is a mystery, and the prices are exorbitant for what you receive. You can't simply order 1-2 dishes; it’s not enough. The rice for the saucy main course has to be ordered separately. If you're lucky, you'll spend around €50 per person, and you’ll be left wondering what was even Thai about the food.
The service was a disaster. There were five of us, and the staff clearly struggled to keep up - in the end three people where involved to service our table. After we placed our order, chaos ensued. The dishes came out one by one, with no rhyme or reason. Some at the table hadn’t even started eating while others were already finished. We had to repeatedly mention that some dishes were missing. One server told us the kitchen was working on it. Another confirmed that items had been forgotten, and the bartender explained that some dishes were served as a first course and others as a second—something we were never informed about. He claimed the kitchen had to do it this way due to capacity issues, but there was no prior notice.
The highlight of the night was when we were charged for the wrong table. During the correction, it became clear that, in addition to a lack of service skills, basic math knowledge was also absent—despite the use of a calculator. Fried vegetables and eggplant drowned in soy sauce can be found in far more delicious alternative restaurants. Don’t be fooled by the decoration and seemingly good reviews on Google.
Very very bad staff and core scrap. A hello is a foreign word for the employees and also like goodbye.
No further recommendation.
The only good thing about this restaurant is the location in Frankfurt, the rest is forgettable and chopped off.
I am here for the first and last time.
I have never experienced such unfriendly employees in my life.
