I've been to the Wirtshaus im Ostend three times now – twice I had schnitzel, once meatloaf – and everything was absolutely delicious. The service is friendly and attentive. Highly recommended! A little tip: It's a good idea to make a reservation after about 6 pm, as the place is usually very busy.

Absolutely loved this restaurant! Great service and amazing food. Highly recommend if you're visiting. Definitely book ahead as we were very lucky to get a table on a Tuesday night!

The food exceeded all expectations.

Very disappointing! I was turned away by the owner because I didn't want to order a drink, but only a lunch, which the restaurant advertises outside. The restaurant was completely empty at the time, yet I was treated very rudely. I felt extremely uncomfortable as a customer – this is no way to treat people in the restaurant industry. My suggestion to the owner: If the minimum order includes a drink, then you should offer honest and transparent package deals (e.g., food + drink for a fixed price). Anything else seems like misleading and manipulative advertising to me. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant.

A definite recommendation!! I found it through Google and was absolutely not disappointed!! The food was a solid 9.5 out of 10, and the price was completely justified considering the portion sizes, quality, and taste. If you're looking for a nice restaurant and/or want to go out to eat with someone, this is the place to go! They serve great German cuisine here!! I think I'll be back again sometime!

The food was alright yesterday. But card payments only accepted for amounts over €35? That really gets my imagination running wild... Today I just wanted to eat and not drink anything. No such luck. I'm sitting at the Jugo restaurant around the corner now and getting friendly service.

There's no zero-star option, so one star it is. The restaurant only had one table occupied, yet the staff couldn't manage to take an order and place it within 50 minutes. It's questionable how such a restaurant is even still open. A definite no-go for anyone visiting Frankfurt. An apology isn't enough!

Warm, lively wirtshaus with friendly, efficient service. Crisp, tender Schnitzel and tasty seasonal specials; standout sides like potato salad and red cabbage. Strong local beer selection, well-poured. Fair prices, generous portions. I was in the area 4 nights and I got there 3 to eat.

Our visit to this restaurant was unfortunately a complete disappointment. During our stay, a gas/oxygen alarm suddenly went off in the kitchen, and we had to leave the restaurant for about 30 minutes until the fire department resolved the problem. None of the staff really bothered to check on the guests or explain what was going on. The food was mediocre at best—my schnitzel tasted awful, tough, and flavorless. The owner himself was unfriendly, both in person and on the phone, and completely incompetent. He's unable to issue a proper bill, which should be standard practice in any restaurant. I absolutely do not recommend this place!

Solid interior, service okay. Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. There was a loud argument in the kitchen, which dampened the atmosphere even before the meal. The BBQ schnitzel was juicy, but presented without any care; it could have been so much better. The spinach dumplings were swimming in tomato sauce, a flavorless dish. The tarte flambée was excellent, but the salad dressing was overly sweet. I also developed stomach pains overnight. It's a shame, because the restaurant has potential if there were more care and a calmer atmosphere in the kitchen.

The food was outstanding! Although the restaurant was quite full, we got a table quickly. We ordered chicken strips and venison goulash – both dishes were wonderfully aromatic, generously portioned, and absolutely delicious. The pumpkin soup was also a highlight – creamy, delicately seasoned, and simply divine. Highly recommended! The staff was very welcoming, and we felt at home from the start. Tip: Ask about the dishes that aren't on the menu! (Weekly specials, soup of the day, etc.) Neither the venison goulash nor the pumpkin soup were on the menu, and we were delighted with both.

It didn't convince me. The food (Käsespätzle) was okay. Too expensive for the level of quality. The ambiance was quite nice, but I was bothered by the crates of drinks in the dining area and the intrusive music. The minimum amount for card payments is also not something I'm happy about.

We live very close by and wanted to grab a bite to eat on Saturday at lunchtime. It was drizzling lightly, but the small terrace in front of the restaurant was covered and dry. When we politely asked if we could sit outside, we were turned away in an extremely rude manner: "Terrace closed, it's raining." What a shame – after this unfriendly response, we declined the offer to eat inside instead. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've experienced the staff's rudeness at this restaurant in the Ostend district. Very disappointing, especially since the place actually has a nice location and potential.

Very friendly service, great ambiance, and cute decor. The pork knuckle was delicious, as were the fish, steak, and turkey strips. The hand cheese with music was perfect, and the apple strudel for dessert was heavenly. We're becoming new regulars! Even now, five years later, we're still big fans of this inn. The interior isn't as quaint as you'd expect from other Frankfurt apple wine pubs (this is more of a restaurant). The food is truly delicious, and the portions are generous. Whether it's Frankfurter Schnitzel (with green sauce), Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle), or pork knuckle—everything is delicious, served quickly, and the service is friendly. And to finish, a little medlar, perfect!

Just steps from our hotel, it offers traditional German cuisine. A welcoming place, with friendly and professional staff. Prices are moderate. Fast service and delicious food. Recommended!

We spontaneously stopped by Wirtshaus Ostend for lunch and got a nice seat even without a reservation. The food is homely, with generous portions. The service is a bit boyish and direct. The value for money is reasonable. If you'd like, you can sit outside on the busy Sonnemannallee opposite the ECB building, with a blanket and a heater.

We ate at the inn last night for our wedding anniversary – mainly because of the many good reviews. The service was really friendly, and the food came quite quickly. I had goulash, my husband had schnitzel. It tasted okay at first, but unfortunately, we both had severe stomach cramps that night and spent what felt like half the night on the toilet. Since we didn't eat anything else afterward, it can only have been the food. Very disappointing, especially since we were actually looking forward to a lovely evening.

Unfortunately, I had a thoroughly negative experience at this restaurant, on several levels. As soon as I entered, I was struck by the unfriendly tone of the staff. Instead of a polite welcome, I was treated coldly and condescendingly. What was particularly bad was that I was treated with racist language – behavior that is absolutely unacceptable in this day and age. This ruined my entire stay before the food even arrived. Unfortunately, the food couldn't even remotely compensate for this negative impression. The sauce was a disaster – it felt like nothing more than oil and water, completely thin and flavorless. The spaetzle were coarse, carelessly prepared, and equally tasteless, simply bland. The medallions were overcooked, completely dry and hard, as if they had been left in the pan for far too long. The so-called "schnitzel" was barely recognizable as such: The breading was far too thick, completely soggy with the sauce, not crispy, and rather mushy. You had the feeling that the food was cooked without care or attention to detail. Nothing was truly fresh or well-seasoned. Even simple dishes that are hard to mess up were disappointing. Overall, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. Between the unfriendly, disrespectful service and the poor quality of the food, my only conclusion is: Never again. I can't recommend this restaurant in any way.

This is a local hotspot! The schnitzel and hamburger steak were delicious! The portions were a bit large for us. It's a reasonable price and you can fill your stomach, and dogs are welcome too!

Food quite good, service catastrophic

It was our first time there, and I also tried the green sauce for the first time. It was delicious!

I have very bad expirience with this place. They are so unhelpful about issuing a copy of the bill it's unbelievable. They do not want to help at all and the behavior of the staff and the owner is disappointing.

Not good and expensive. The schnitzel is swimming in its own fat. The meat is full of tendons. But the atmosphere is quite good.

The food was super delicious and the service was always there and left no wish unfulfilled.

Lovely little pub with a very pleasant atmosphere. We had schnitzel and fish & chips. Both were delicious, and the accompanying sauerkraut spritzer was excellent.

The waiters made us feel so uncomfortable, they gave us disgusted looks, never asked what we wanted, completely ignored us, and kept giving us hateful stares, so we had to leave! Xenophobic waiters, don’t support such business or mentality!

We were very disappointed with our visit. The staff looked at us strangely and didn’t come to take our order, even though the place wasn’t full. After waiting for quite a while, we ended up leaving without eating. Unfortunately, we can’t recommend this restaurant based on our experience.

The food was simply amazing! We also charged our electric car right across the street! I'll definitely be back! What could be improved: - Please stop with this "card payment starting with." Your prices are typical for Frankfurt, so card payments starting with the first drink, and yes, Amex too ;) - More proactive service. Empty glass = Ask the guest what you want next. Don't walk past the empty glass three times while still looking the glass and the guest in the eye ;)

The lumberjack steak with herb butter and fries was good... the apple strudel with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some whipped cream was also very good... friendly service... would gladly go back 👍

The entire team had a good sense of humor and a really good mood, which made the visit very pleasant. The tarte flambée was delicious, as were the other dishes and the beer. The portions are large, making the whole experience very appealing. The prices are a bit higher, but right across from the ECB, that's understandable – and absolutely fine given the portion size. We'd love to come back!

Great place for German food. I‘ve eaten there multiple times and no matter if it was the Rehragout, the Schnitzel, the Burger or a Kaiserschmarrn, everything has always been very tasty - especially the Burger!

Food was about what you'd expect for the price. Waiter seemed friendly until we asked for ice in one of the drinks. Then looked sour the rest of the dinner and pressured for a tip at the end.

Very generous menu with many choices. Outdoor seating right on a slightly busier street, but that was no problem.

I was actually looking forward to eating, but after feeling unwelcome by the waitress, I decided to eat somewhere else.

The restaurant is good, with comfortable seating and an extensive menu. The biggest problem here is the staff's limited capacity. There aren't enough waitstaff. The staff who are there are trying very hard and consistently friendly. Kudos to them! There are indoor and outdoor seating options. Unfortunately, the website isn't working, so I've included the menu in the photos. The apple stew was excellent and highly recommended. The Spatzle, however, was unfortunately lacking in flavor.

Had the beef goulash, tasty and a good portion. Staff were a bit short and not very friendly, which took away from the experience. Still, the food was solid and I’d come back for the goulash again.

Great nostalgic german restaurant Excellent food and of course Beer

We received an incredibly friendly welcome upon arrival and immediately felt at home. Many thanks to the staff. The menu offers a great selection of dishes for both large and small appetites. (A bit confusing, but that's only a minor criticism.) There are indoor and outdoor seating options. The wait times for drinks and food were great and not too long. The Frankfurt schnitzel and baked potato with chicken and grilled vegetables were absolutely delicious.

It seems to be normal in Frankfurt to be closed on Sundays. Please just change your opening hours on Google and other search engines. Unfortunately, no service, no food, no atmosphere, hence only one star overall.

The food is all delicious. The hamburger is delicious, and the green sauce schnitzel is delicious. There are reviews that say the staff is unfriendly, but I didn't feel that way. It's a local restaurant, so there are a lot of people. There's also outdoor seating. And try the pancakes for dessert. They're delicious dipped in apple puree.

Great food and really big portions

Today was our first and, unfortunately, last time here. First of all, it's not because of the food, which is truly commendable! The server (a redhead) is unfortunately extremely unprofessional and not interested in the guests. We waited a very long time before she had the mercy to come out. Ordering from her was completely impersonal and not hospitable. There was no hello, thank you, or please. No one asked if everything was okay with the food, and certainly no request for dessert or coffee. When we asked for this ourselves after another very long wait, we were simply told the kitchen was already closed. What a shame for the business and the otherwise good food.

The food was very good, and unlike many other German restaurants, there's a decent selection for vegetarians. The ambiance is also pleasant, with a mix of traditional and modern elements. The service was friendly, and ordering was quite quick. What's completely unacceptable in 2025, however, is that card payments are only accepted for orders over €35—hence the one-star deduction.

Very nice german menu with a varied selection of dishes. I had the Frankfurter schnitzel, which more or less was a regular schnitzel but with green sauce. Generous amount meat, good potatoes with bacon bits. The bacon and potatoes were decent, I think the bacon was burned a bit too much. The green sauce was refreshing but not really my thing. Schnitzel was very good, highly recommend it. Service was a bit slow, they forgot our drinks and when we asked for mayo, they also forgot to bring it.

I ate at this restaurant today and, unfortunately, I must say I'm deeply disappointed. First of all: With an outside temperature of 34 degrees Celsius, I find it absolutely incomprehensible that in 2025, neither air conditioning nor even fans are installed. The air was stuffy, and I sweated throughout the entire meal—it made my stay extremely unpleasant. Secondly, I would like to mention the extremely rude behavior of the waitress who served me. She responded to simple questions about the menu in a rude and unfriendly manner—for example, with, "Read the menu." When I ordered a (pretty expensive) schnitzel and politely asked if I could have a small salad beforehand, I received the rude reply, "If you pay for it, yes." In my entire life, I've never had to pay extra for a side salad when ordering a schnitzel. I felt very uncomfortable even asking for anything—that's not how you treat guests. And then the icing on the cake when paying: card payments only start at €35. How can it be that in 2025 a restaurant doesn't accept card payments below that amount? This is completely incomprehensible to me and seems out of date. The food was, I have to admit, really good. But unfortunately, that's nowhere near enough to make up for the poor service and unpleasant conditions. I will definitely never visit this restaurant again.

Unfortunately, very disappointing – I won't be back. I used to enjoy eating here, but my last visit was a very negative experience. Right from the start, we had to wait a very long time before we even got a menu or were allowed to order. To pass the time, we unwrapped some playing cards – whereupon the waiter rudely informed us that the manager didn't allow this and that we should please put the cards away. I have no understanding for this. In total, we waited over 1.5 hours for the food to arrive – even though we asked about it after about 45 minutes. No apology, no explanation, just consistently unfriendly service. It's a shame – I really appreciated the place before, but after this experience, I won't be coming back.

The service is very good, the food is delicious, but I didn't like the dish I ordered very much because it had very strong herbs. It's German food. The people are very friendly when it comes to serving us. They don't speak much English, but they are very attentive.

Absolutely fantastic family-run restaurant. Robust and very tasty cuisine. The location next to the ECB in Frankfurt is very good. Parking is rather difficult due to the traffic there. It's better to arrive by public transport. Highly recommended.

I had the schnitzel with asparagus and a delicious sauce. For dessert, the Kaiserschmarrn was divine. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was really pleasant. It's a true tavern, and the prices are very reasonable. You can easily eat here with lots of people.

We came to this place for coffee and a bite to eat, but from the start, the service was very rude. The waitress didn’t let us sit outside, and once inside, she made one of us move, claiming we were taking up too much space—even though we were a group of seven and the restaurant was mostly empty. When we tried to order, some of us spoke only English, but another waitress stepped in and offered us several coffee options, which we ordered. A few minutes later, the original waitress returned, saying she didn’t get our order and made us repeat it—only to tell us those options weren’t available. She gave us just three choices instead, and it felt like she wanted us to leave. The coffee was actually good, but the overall experience was unpleasant. We decided not to order food and just asked for the check. When we tried to pay by card (our bill was 25 euros), she said it was cash only and looked annoyed. There was no sign at the entrance about this, and the restaurant’s website says they accept card and contactless payments. In short, while the coffee was nice, the unwelcoming service ruined the visit.

A good pub with delicious food and beer. I think you immediately feel at home inside, but the view of the ECB is also really cool outside. The food is really tasty and the portions are large, but the prices are a bit on the high side. I think you can also get a good beer there. I've been there twice already, and it certainly won't be the last time.

We visited to try local cuisine and we're not disappointed! Casual pub vibe, cosy inside. Waitress was happy to suggest some local beers and foods to try. Got the beef goulash & schnitzel was green sauce. Both delicious!

The inn in Ostend is absolutely OK. The atmosphere is very nice, the food is good, the portions are small and the prices are high. This disproportion would be manageable if the service was on point, but here you wait a long time until you are served and the orders are actually at the table. (We went three times and each time it was exactly the same experience) During our last visit, the waitress sat next to us twice to smoke while listening to Insta or Tik Tok videos, which was pretty unprofessional. All in all it's good there and you have good food, but nothing more.

Food is not outstanding, but quite good. But it is relatively expensive. Service has weaknesses, you often wait a long time until you can order something. You can sit outside quite nicely.

We would have loved to order something to eat around 3 p.m. today. Unfortunately, the landlord wasn't in a particularly good mood, which he made clear to us by not greeting us provocatively. The female waiter was so overwhelmed that we couldn't even place an order for food. Once and never again.

Great restaurant with great food and relaxed staff.

It's not cheap, but the food is delicious and the service is top-notch – when I mentioned that the side dish was too small for me, they even charged me extra! Overall, a well-rounded stay.
