A lovely welcome, a great atmosphere, and overall a thoroughly enjoyable visit. The staff was attentive and friendly. The greeting was warm and professional, making the restaurant experience feel positive from the very beginning. Taking our order was quick and easy, and our drinks arrived at the table shortly after. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was seamless, so I hardly had to wait. The food was delicious, with perfectly balanced seasoning. Highly recommended!

The visit was a complete success! The pork knuckle was incredibly crispy and absolutely delicious. A generous portion at a very fair price – just the way it should be. I'll definitely be back!

"What could be improved?" is a common question in reviews, but here I can say straight away: NOTHING! The inn is perfect just as it is—quaint and cozy. The service is attentive but not intrusive, so that's perfect too. Two things in particular will stay with us. We had reserved parking spaces for a concert, and they were immediately ready to help us with a printout. Then there was My Lan, a server who doesn't just do her job, she truly lives and breathes it. Thanks for all the fun moments. The food was excellent, without exception delicious, and simply solid, honest cuisine. If you haven't tried it, you should definitely sample all the drinks featuring medlar. A word of caution, though: someone else should drive afterward 🙃. Thanks to the owner and his team. A wonderful memory!

Today I spontaneously booked a table at the Gasthaus Zum Bären and got a wonderful spot in a very cozy atmosphere. You immediately feel at ease there; the service is attentive, friendly, and pleasantly quiet. A big thank you also to Yade, who made our evening even more enjoyable with her warm and professional manner – truly fantastic service! As someone who works in the restaurant industry myself, I can only say: Top-notch place! The food impresses with its quality and flavor; you can immediately tell that everything is freshly and homemade. For a starter, I had a rich broth, followed by a mushroom and cream schnitzel – both were excellent! A particularly positive point: The restaurant has been awarded the Hessen à la carte seal of approval, and deservedly so. They place great emphasis on regionality, freshness, and seasonality. I was completely satisfied and will definitely be back. Highly recommended! 👏🍽️

Very rude waitress and the German food is sub-standard and expensive. Went to Roemer Pils Brunnen next and what a huge difference.... rather go here for an authentic German meal and very pleasant service

Beautiful, rustic restaurant with friendly staff and good Hessian food.

We come here almost every time we visit the Frankfurt area. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends or during trade fairs. Even if you don't have one, the chef and his team still try to accommodate you. The service is always top-notch, both from the chef and the entire team; everyone is friendly, courteous, and cheerful, and you feel like "a team" – the togetherness and support for one another is very noticeable as a guest (which is unfortunately becoming increasingly rare these days). I would especially like to highlight "Franzy" – you can tell that she does her job with joy, love, and so much fun; you rarely see that. Thank you for that! The food is excellent both in terms of price and quality and has been excellent every time we visit. The side salad alone tastes better than almost anywhere else. The schnitzel is superb in size and quantity, crispy and juicy, the fried potatoes are crispy and slightly soft (that's how I love them), and the best green sauce I've ever had the pleasure of eating. We will continue to come back whenever we can and recommend you to others, thank you!

Wonderful local food and atmosphere

I don't understand how people can give this restaurant such positive reviews. People, if you want to eat a good schnitzel, come to Hamburg, or rather, to the Luisenhof in Dassow; it's absolutely delicious there! (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) There wasn't even a side dish. The schnitzel and fried potatoes were oily and cold! The food, or rather, the schnitzel, was already cooked. This restaurant really needs to learn how to prepare schnitzel and fried potatoes. We ended up returning more than half of the food.

The location next to the xastle and on the old square is perfect. We just took drinjs so ignore the markvfor food. Coffee etc was good.

A lovely restaurant in a beautiful location. The menu is extensive and also available in English. There are some surprising dishes on the menu, such as the flammkuchen with apple and cinnamon. The flavors are excellent, and they serve delicious beer in earthenware mugs. The staff chats among themselves while guests are seated, which is sometimes inappropriate. The staff work very hard and together they form a well-functioning team. I will definitely return and recommend everyone to visit.

Review of Gasthaus Zum Bären, Frankfurt-Höchst The ever-increasing food prices and the well-known grievances regarding working conditions in the restaurant industry are no justification for culinary negligence. Anyone willing to pay large sums for a simple meal today can at least expect care and quality in return. At Gasthaus Zum Bären in Frankfurt-Höchst, however, guests encounter the opposite: bland, carelessly prepared dishes whose culinary standards tend toward zero. An establishment that confronts its guests with such poor quality should seriously question whether it is still in the right place in the restaurant industry. Eating out is not simply an act of satisfying hunger, but a promise of enjoyment and appreciation. If this promise is broken, only disappointment remains.

We are there often and are always satisfied!

The veal schnitzel tastes unbearable; a portion for €24.50 is a joke. The fried potatoes were hard to go wrong; they came soggy and in small portions. I ordered extra mushroom sauce, but the flavor was almost nonexistent...I assume it came from a packet. All wines by the glass have been reduced to 0.15 liters, and the prices have been jacked up. The owner of this restaurant should really think about whether they're overextending themselves with profit maximization and the service they offer their guests... Unfortunately, Zum Bären is no longer worth a visit for me.

I had the half knuckle of pork with bread dumplings and a side salad. It was very tasty; the meat was tender and the crust crispy, just as a knuckle of pork should be. The dressing on the side salad was also very tasty.

A good restaurant, not exactly what you'd expect in Frankfurt. 😊 The food was good, though the soup broth could use a bit more seasoning and less oil. The staff is very warm and friendly. It was just a shame that we had to wait a long time (about 20-25 minutes) for our drinks at the beginning, which was a real pain in the heat. 🙈 But all in all, it's worth a visit. 👍🏼

Very quaint, you're sitting in a very old, cozy Frankfurt restaurant with good and plentiful, traditional food (see photos). The service is a bit gruff but still very fast, and you can get a seat for four people without a reservation. But you should make a reservation, as the restaurant gets very busy.

A very nice, traditional restaurant with the typical Äppelwoi atmosphere. Besides the delicious food, one thing is particularly noteworthy: the incredibly friendly and attentive service from our waitresses, with a warmth that's rare these days! We'd love to come back and say: see you soon!

It was nice; I come here often with my parents, but the fact that the wine was reduced from 0.2L to 0.15L, with no price reduction, and served in a wine glass that's visually deceptive, doesn't match the old standards we've come to expect from Bär. The same goes for the Kaiserschmarren, which is a real shame.

Unfortunately, I can only agree with every review that has reported any kind of UNFRIENDLY, YES, ALMOST AGGRESSIVE, BUT DEFINITELY HOSTILE BEHAVIOR TOWARD THE GUEST, with the service staff! My daughter was even afraid of one of the employees, and we left immediately! The staff should reconsider the meaning of the word GUEST and how to behave towards a GUEST. Of course, there are guests who behave badly, but then they shouldn't take their frustration out on the nice guests like me and my daughter. I come from the restaurant industry myself and know what that means, which is why I'm always particularly friendly and not demanding, and always give at least a €3-€5 tip. The food is sometimes good, sometimes not so good... It's a shame, we'll never go back.... Love Chris🕊

I can recommend this place with a clear conscience. We had our annual class reunion last Sunday. I booked a table for about 18 people. It was very good, and we stayed for about 3-4 hours. The staff and the food we ordered were very good, and the value for money was also good. It's a very nice old inn.

As a Frankfurt resident, I visited for the first time. A typical apple wine bar with good Frankfurt dishes. Service was friendly and prompt. The green sauce was very good 👍 The hand cheese was excellent 👍 The ribs were very good. One star deducted because the deep-fried schnitzel was not good at all, and today it was extra thin 👎 But we will definitely come again.

We were there again. But that's not right! The quantity of wine per glass has been reduced from 0.2l to 0.15l (at what feels like the same price). That's a 25% price increase! What kind of inflation rate do you have in Höchst? Not to mention that 0.15l is a sip :))) And the beer, at €5.80, is also quite reasonably priced. So, in the future, we'll just try one of the many good alternatives in the immediate vicinity...

We enjoyed dinner here during a bike ride. The service was generally good, although we had to repeat things both when ordering and later on with the bill. But I don't mind such things; it's fine. What bothered me, however, was that my pasta dish had so much water and oil at the bottom of the plate that I could have easily eaten it as soup. Sorry, that's incredibly bad. This made it impossible to finish the entire dish, which isn't the point. Bottom line: Take a few seconds to refill your bowl!

Absolutely the best inn! Extremely and always friendly staff. They even remember what you like to order. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. It's served quickly, and the staff are very attentive. Both the regular staff and the young students who help out in the summer. It's obvious that there's a good working atmosphere. That's very important. Simply perfect!

I've enjoyed the goat cheese salad for years. However, it's not the same as it was in years past. It doesn't taste good anymore; it tastes more like a simple summer salad. I certainly won't be eating it at the Bären anymore.

We were pleasantly surprised. Until now, we only knew Frankfurt-Höchst from the enormous chemical park, visible from the highway. But it wasn't until our bike tour that we realized that Höchst is a pretty old town. The Gasthaus zum Bären is nestled in the beautiful old town setting with a view of Höchst Castle Tower. It was so busy that we had to wait a few minutes for a free table. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the service was friendly and professional.

Centrally located, good food. Usually very busy. The service quality depends on the occupancy, but is still OK even at very busy times. The ambiance is rustic, with slightly inclined seating outside.

Nice German restaurant with friendly service. The food came quickly, drinks took a while, but everyone was full. There's an allergen menu. I'm gluten intolerant and had the potato skins and green sauce. Both were delicious! I'd be happy to come back.

For years, we've enjoyed going to this inn on the beautiful Schlossplatz in Höchst. Unfortunately, the service and quality of the food have declined. Dishes are undercooked, fried potatoes only half-cooked. The waitresses addressed all guests as "dear" (you guys). When the waitress noticed that the dishes were undercooked, there was no apology. It was simply accepted. A few years ago, the inn was really good and always recommended. The location is also beautifully quaint. We just want to be served properly, be spoken to, and receive the food as ordered. Unfortunately, after several attempts, the quality has noticeably declined and cannot be explained as a slip-up due to our current mood or stress. So we'll have to find somewhere else. It's a real shame.

I've been to Höchster Schlossplatz for dinner for the first time in a while. It's still a great place with a varied selection of home-style dishes. A visit is always recommended.

It's a shame – the service and atmosphere alone are impressive. With the rising prices, the quality of the food is only mediocre – seemingly just convenience fare, lacking in attention, and the taste is rather subpar. Even the beer in the mug came without foam. Unfortunately, the value for money is no longer right at all. If it weren't for the beautiful location, we certainly wouldn't go back to the restaurant.

Large tables and benches to share, in a car-free square. Since the weather was nice, no one was eating inside.

Love going here. It’s in a super cute area of Höchst (old town) and has very typical German food. Inside is a cute old German tavern and outside is also nice. Food is decently priced.

The taste was good, but the portions are now very small and the prices have risen. The schnitzels are thin, the side dishes are very small, and the amount of sauce was also more than manageable. The side salad costs extra. Unfortunately, we didn't get full. The service was a bit slow at times and unpleasantly pushy when it came to selling side dishes, desserts, and coffee.

Everything was great, especially the waitress, My Lan, who was very nice and considerate. We'll definitely be back!
