"What's with Vegan" is one of the snack bars on the RAW premises, which, as the name suggests, specializes entirely in vegan fast food. Here you have a nice small selection of burgers with Beyond Meat patties, Seitan kebabs, etc. and as a side dish, in addition to normal fries, there are also sweet potato fries.
The atmosphere is just as you would expect on the RAW grounds and the service was really friendly when I visited. I decided on No Fish & Chips to go. The portion was quite large and for €6.50 it was definitely a fair deal.
The vegan “fish” tasted extremely delicious. They were relatively large, juicy pieces that actually tasted a little like fish. Unfortunately, the fries couldn't quite keep up, but they were still okay. They were really very thin (it's just a matter of taste) and a small part of them wasn't cooked properly (unfortunately that's objectively stupid). They were also really greasy and could have drained a little longer/better.
The sauce was a somewhat indefinable dill sauce that tasted something like eating a kebab and the kebab man didn't really put any effort into the herb sauce. Okay in itself, but very unspectacular. It actually wouldn't have been necessary to put sauce on it at all. A splash of vinegar would actually have been enough. Otherwise, maybe just vegan tartar sauce?
Although there were a few criticisms, none of them were so serious that I didn't like it there. On the other hand, you also have to say that Friedrichshain is not exactly lacking in vegan fast food. If you're already on the RAW grounds anyway, you can get vegan fast food here pretty easily and uncomplicated. But I wouldn't necessarily go there.
This is the third time I've found myself standing in front of a closed door during regular opening hours. There was just a sign on the door indicating that on June 21st. is closed.
We have already ordered there twice, but unfortunately our order was forgotten the third time or marked as pick-up. Unfortunately, we had to wait just over an hour longer. But as an apology we got some gifts. Thanks for that
My girlfriend and I love this place! We come here once a month (we are both students living on a budget) and always leave satisfied.
Why? The food is really good, the prices are affordable and fair, the staff is kind, patient and competent. My girlfriend has celiac disease and they have a variety of delicious gluten-free options. For environmentally conscious people: All menu options are 100% vegan.
Recommendations: We really love the Kapsalon and the burgers. The best part: The fries portions are small, but you can always order more. Reducing food waste in such a pragmatic way is a great idea. We also love the different seasonal dishes.
Also: The restaurant employs people with disabilities. They always do a great job and we are very happy to support such an establishment :)
TLDR: Great place, great food, good prices, amazing staff.
We got bowls during our lunch break. We actually wanted to eat there, but decided against it because of the extremely loud music and looked for a quiet place by the lake. The bowls were really delicious. The portion size is also completely sufficient. Price-performance is overall okay. Just make sure that the ingredients are available at lunchtime and you get the bowl that you actually wanted.
The whole store was empty, but they were thrown out after 2 hours (4 people reservation). The boss there wasn't nice either. Hit on us because he understood tea instead of ice tea, and he also served other customers instead of us, even though we were waiting there first. It's a shame because the food and prices are good...we won't be coming back.
