Pfannenzauber in Aachen

Yesterday, I visited the small, rustic Pfannenzauber restaurant for the first time in a while. There were four of us, and we all had different drinks and dishes. Everything was delicious! Martin served us attentively, friendly, and with a personal charm 😃. I'll gladly give the service a fifth star once card payments are accepted. The ambiance is too rustic/plain and hectic for me personally. Nevertheless, all in all, I highly recommend it.

Pfannenzauber is simply THE place for vegan food in Aachen. The coffee and hot chocolate are also great. Even for non-vegans, it's a great opportunity to try vegan food. The permanent menu includes various burgers and kebab specialties; I especially love the Kapsalon (seen in the photo)👌 Seasonally, there are always different menus with additional dishes, appetizers, soups, and cakes/desserts. Sustainability is a priority here – burgers come with a standard portion of fries, but if you're particularly hungry, you can get a second one for free – thus avoiding food waste. And for those on a tight budget, you can also order a glass of tap water with your meal. I've always loved the cakes and desserts, too. The atmosphere is very quaint. There are also art supplies, board games, food sharing, and a small sales area from local women/artists.

Great concept, but unfortunately a disappointment in terms of taste. The food had a strong burnt aftertaste and was completely unseasoned.

Really tasty food with a large range of options, both modern and traditional. The location is quite central and easy to get to. And the restaurant has great cosy vibes and cosy staff. It also employs mainly disabled and neurodivergent individuals which is great!

We are neither vegetarian nor vegan. But the concept of pan magic still fascinates us and we love coming back again and again! Super tasty dishes with fresh, seasonal ingredients and wonderfully seasoned. Cozy atmosphere and always nice and friendly service. Martin in particular is truly unique!

First night in Aachen, I thought this place, being vegan and with good reviews, would be ideal. Welcome at the door was friendly. Nice guy, showed me to a bit too comfy seat, gave me a menu. I had chosen food online, but drinks I needed to choose. They have a selection of local beers which would be perfect to go with a burger, so when the waitress came over I chose the "Beast from the Sewer". I asked what it was like, waitress had no idea. But anyway, they didn't have it. I chose, instead, the "Great Abul Abbas" pale ale. Same problems. The waitress didn't seem interested in helping me, so I just asked what they *did* have: of course, all the generic beers that one can get anywhere. Sigh. So don't come here expecting a special drink. I went with a glass of red wine having given up on the idea of getting a good beer. Do I know which wine it was? No, because there's no information listed. The menu needs simple improvement like wine maker, location, year, grapes, etc. you know, the usual stuff ... or staff that explain. I shouldn't have to ask. Food I ordered was a PZ burger with "scharf" sauce, and small fries with tzatziki. So let's get to the burger. It was described as "slowfood" and the "better" burger ... I thought it was a bit dry and didn't taste of much: reminded me of school-meal burgers in the late 1980s. Honestly, go to any supermarket, esp. in the UK, and the selection of *tasty* burgers far exceeds this. One positive thing is the bun: it wasn't the crap brioche that's usual these days, it had some substance and seeds on it. That was good! The fries though, well, they were seriously lacking in flavour. They were cooked just enough, but soft inside and tasteless. I'm not German so I don't add a ton of salt to each meal. People here could learn the art of cooking fries from their Belgian neighbours. The "scharf", "deluxe" sauce was about as spicy as ketchup and as deluxe as mayo mixed with said ketchup. It's Germany, so "scharf" means only one molecule of chilli is allowed for entire whole visible Universe, but come on. The tzatziki was watery (because it's vegan?) and dill dominated to the point where I couldn't taste much else. So the food wasn't great, the wine was nothing special (it tasted vaguely Italian but it might just have been open for a while, not sure, and I didn't bother asking in the end), although it came with water which was nice. The staff were a mixed bag: welcoming chap very friendly. There did seem to be as many staff as customers other than me (I counted five of each category) and while the big guy was welcoming, they didn't do so great on the actual service part and the waitress definitely not on the interaction skills. But perhaps she had a bad day, it happens, I get it. Payment was interesting: I watched someone else try to pay by card but of course it's back to 1980s Germany and hence cash only. I am prepared for this: the stone age and the claim that "cash is cheaper" are common (yeah, if you neglect my fees to change currency, and their time counting it, and their fees to put it in the bank, and their need to do the accounting [that's automatic with cards], and the risk of cash being stolen from me or from them, lack of convenience, etc. but why would anyone be logical or provide actual customer service? It's only clear the customers want it, but ...) so cash it was. Tourists: beware, *this place is not designed for you*. Finally, the toilets have two taps and only one - the cold, naturally - works. I guess they want you to have cold hands, distracts from the bland meal? The hot tap is just there to tempt you into thinking it's going to be pleasant, like the google reviews!, and then disappoint. As if it's not cold enough in the middle of winter here! brrrrrrr! So yes, a disappointing night. I hoped for more from PZ Aachen, but perhaps I was just spoiled in Brussels on my way here where every meal, all vegan!, was superb and totally filled with flavour (and where spicy meant actually bloody spicy! go to Kitsune Burgers!). Hoping for better tomorrow, elsewhere.

The food was great! We each had a different dish. The highlight was the sauerbraten.

The Pfannenzauber is a vegan restaurant that non-vegans also like to go to. I'm not a vegan myself and I like to eat their citizens and the kebab. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I'd love to go there again.

Very tasty food with extremely friendly staff. Everything happens quickly, even when it's full. In addition to the vegan food, where the kebab is particularly recommended, the selection of drinks is also special. The only thing I would perhaps like to have with the kebab would be a few more soy slices and that you mix the ingredients in the kebab, so you can sometimes eat up all the onions in one bite.

Good vegan restaurant. The service was very nice and the food came quickly. The tagliatelle were really good, as were the fries, only the kebab was a bit hard. But everything was really very affordable. The drink selection is cool. I think it's great that inclusion is practiced here and, for example, a free refill of fries is offered to avoid food waste.

Alternatively furnished restaurant with a small menu but very tasty. The only drawback is that you can't pay by card. The “reason” that you don’t want to exclude people is ridiculous. You can offer cash or card. People who don't have cash with them are more likely to be excluded. Therefore 2 stars deducted because it is always an additional effort to withdraw extra money.

I actually expected a quick meal for two. And then we slowed down in the friendliest way I could imagine. Personally, I am not a vegan, not even a vegetarian. In fact, beetroot as a burger patty wasn't really my thing (my husband loved it even more) but this Monkey Burger is so downright awesome. And also the ice cream and cake, just perfect. Just like the homemade lemonade with a perfect level of sweetness. What I personally think is very good is that you are given fries later so that the food doesn't end up in the bin. Best regards to the greatest service in the world. Please stay as warm as you are.

90% of kebab plates are not recognized as meat. Special atmosphere, staff hyper-friendly. Cash only is a step in the right direction.

A purely plant-based restaurant, not far from the train station towards the city center. Lots of burgers and Vöner on the menu, but there are also seasonal, changing dishes. That brings variety.

in many ways a remarkable place, the food is very tasty, you certainly won't find any conservative posters on the walls, the people who cook and serve may not have always had an easy life in life, slowing down, oh yes: you won't find meat here (but... then you probably won't come here at all)

Great place to have delicous vegan food. Very friendly staff. Excellent price value. We really enjoyed or stay.

Relaxed and cozy atmosphere. Here you can choose between 2/3 typical vegan main courses or vegan burgers. I had a “Monkey Burger” with fries, peanut sauce (similar to peanut butter) and a mini salad. Taste was ok, not too tasty but well balanced, not too sweet despite the banana. Bread is homemade and that's always a plus, crispy on the outside, goes well with the consistency of the burger. Price-performance ratio is okay (€13.5 and you could theoretically order extra fries). I would suggest it to try something different than usual.

I heard it's best Aachen vegan food. Definitely 5/5 as someone who has tried so many vegan burgers in many countries. Their BBQ burger is kinda unique with a good patty, served with sauerkraut, everything self-made, and a very good experience overall with friendly service and a possibility to sit outside. I do recommend reserving a table.

Around half an hour before the kitchen closed, there was no problem with Vöner, the house classic, with a portion of fries and a local beer! Everything tasted good and the price/performance was right because the portion sizes were generous! The service was friendly and relaxed👍

The food is extremely delicious. I love the atmosphere, very cozy. Everybody there is very nice and sweet. It makes you feel very comfortable from the minute you get in. Amazing concept. I loved my first time at Pfannenzauber and I will definitely come again!

Very tasty tofu fish, good fries, actually everything was delicious. Great with children! The inclusive approach is also nice, as two men with disabilities can do their work here. This means that some things take a little longer ;)

I found this place because a friend of mine are looking for a gluten-free option and here they do offer gluten-free bun. I didn't expect to have such a great vibe and the price is also really good. We order a PZ Burger and a BBQ Burger, both are 13.9€ and included a small salad and french fries. We didn't order drinks but the food was amazing! It can be a bit bland for meat-lover, if you're meat-lover and wanted to try vegan burger, I would opt for BBQ version although I love the PZ Burger ketchup mayo sauce 🤣 Overall great experience and it's also quite close to the centre (in the middle between hbf and elisenbrunnen)

The staff is super friendly and the owners have a nice story about the origins of the restaurant. The food was excellent. Everything was made in house. We ordered the kapsalon and the PZ Royale burger together with the kartoffelsalat and we wished we could eat more 😂 to try even more! Absolutely recommended.

Very nice people, a really alternative pub with a lot of inclusion. It's very nice that people with disabilities are given a chance there and that they put in a lot of effort and have fun with it. It's really fun to be there, the food is completely okay, sometimes it lacks a bit of pizzazz but there are always very good ideas. The monthly pub quiz is really fun!

Very nice inclusive restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the food is fantastic. Free tap water and a free helping of fries with your burger if you're not full after your portion. We recommend!

We really enjoy eating here. The selection is very good and very, very tasty. You actually can't praise it enough. In addition to the very good food, the surroundings are also great. People with disabilities work there. I just really like the whole thing. A little more of what is lived there above all, then the world would be a better place.

Wir hatten schon ewig vor, hierher zu kommen. Heute war es dann soweit. Ich persönlich finde es toll, dass hier Menschen arbeiten, die besonders sind. Vor allem besonders aufmerksam, besonders freundlich und die anderen Besonderheiten stehen tatsächlich in der Karte. So sollte Inklusion funktionieren. Daher ruhig ein wenig mehr Zeit einplanen. Als Vorspeise hatten wir die Zwiebelsuppe. Ein Gedicht!! Ich hatte den Kapsalon und mein Mann Opas Meatballs bestellt. Der Kapsalon war Weltklasse. Ich hätte darin baden können! Das Pürree und Gemüse zu den Meatballs war ebenfalls super lecker. Die Soße auch. Leider war das doch sehr penetrante Raucharoma bei den Meatballs nicht ganz unser Geschmack. Wir werden aber definitiv wiederkommen und uns durch die restliche Karte futtern!

Essen ist sehr geil. Der Meatball-Burger hat mir allerdings gar nicht geschmeckt. Vöner und Royal TS Burger kann ich nur empfehlen. Das Lokal ist schön, fair, vegan und inklusiv. Ich fühle mich sehr wohl!

Wirklich tolles Lokal! Bin jedes Mal begeistert und Frage mich, warum ich nicht öfter hier bin. Die Karte wird saisonal immer wieder angepasst, sodass wir heute in den Genuss eines bezaubernden Sauerbratens gekommen sind. Alles natürlich hausgemacht. Der Service ist super freundlich, gut gelaunt und auch stets für Späße zu haben. Weiter so!

Uriges kleines Restaurant wo wir uns von Anfang an wohl gefühlt haben, die Speisekarte ist übersichtlich aber vollkommen ausreichend. Der Service ist Weltklasse und mancher schickimiki Laden könnte sich davon eine Scheibe abschneiden. Wenn wir das nächste Mal Aachen besuchen werden wir auch definitiv das Pfannenzauber wieder besuchen. Klasse Job macht bitte weiter so 👌

We had a lovely meal at Pfannenzauber. We shared a soup, one of the specials, bruschetta, and the tiramisu. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Sehr gutes Essen, wir waren zu 4 spontan dort. Service war einwandfrei Großes Manko das nur Bar bezahlt werden kann, wodurch wir noch erst zur Bank mussten.

eine gute Wahl, wenn man in Aachen vegetarisch oder vegan essen möchte. Das Essen ist sehr lecker, es gibt immer wechselnde Saisongerichte, ansonsten gibt es eher Vöner, Burger oder Pizza. Ich würde mir ein bisschen mehr Auswahl wünschen. Die Preise sind in Ordnung. Der Service ist eigentlich immer freundlich, es gibt auch einen Lieferdienst. Dabei finde ich gut, dass es Behälter zum wiederbringen gegen Pfand gibt, um weniger Müll zu produzieren.

Das Essen war mega lecker!!! Wir hatten einen Burger und einen Dönerteller (beides vegan) und waren sehr zufrieden. Die Kellnerin war auch super lieb und ist uns sogar noch hinterhergelaufen, weil ich meine Tasche vergessen hatte.

Veganes Restaurant in Aachen. Wir bestellen ab und an hier und waren bisher sowohl mit den speisen als auch dem service zufrieden.Wenn man es aus der veganen Perspektive betrachtet, haben wir selten so gute und befriedigende Geschmackerlebnisse gehabt wie im PZ. Die burger sowie döner haben einen originellen geschmack sowie eine fleischige textur, was wir zu hause nicht mal eben so hinkriegen. Saisonal wechselnde Gerichte, Stempelkarten und Mehrwegbehälter runden das Konzept ab.

Das Essen war wirklich super lecker, alles wurde sehr liebevoll selber gemacht. Pommes, Dips, Bürgerbrötchen etc. selber gemacht und super lecker. Nur zu empfehlen!!

In meiner Studienzeit hier in Aachen gehörte PZ zu meinen absoluten Lieblingsrestaurants. Saisonal wechselnde Hauptgerichte, die kreativ und lecker sind, alternativ die dauerhafte Burger und Döner Karte. Als Veganer findet man hier sowohl mal deutsche Klassiker in vegan als auch neue Kreationen. Natürlich ist die Auswahl gering, aber das erleichtert auch die Entscheidung und bedeutet, die saisonalen Optionen sind gut durchdacht. Die Kellner, die Rezepte, die Atmosphäre ist einfach einzigartig und schwierig in anderen Städten zu finden.

Very unique dining experience. The Minestrone was soup was quite appetizing and I was amazed by the beetroot patty in the burger. It was really delicious and something new for me. The staff was also very polite and friendly. I'd 100% recommend this place.

I've been here twice already and I totally love this place. They make super tasty vegan burgers and the atmosphere could not be nicer. Can't wait to come again next time!

Es ist immer wieder toll! Alle paar Wochen schaue ich gespannt nach der neuen Karte. Es ist immer einen Besuch wert!

Leider nicht was der Name verspricht!!! Da gibt es nur das was Tiere normal essen! Also nix für Leute die was anständiges zwischen die Zähne haben wollen.

Wir haben sehr gut gegessen!!! Tagesmenu waren Brokkolirösti und dann hatten wir den Burger. Alles vegan und nett präsentiert! Die Bedienung ist super nett und die selbstgemachte Limo war auch sehr gut! Nicht wie bei anderen Plätzen voll mit Eis sondern wirklich Limo! Wasser war umsonst!!! Alleine dafür würde ich fünf Sterne geben!!!! Wir kommen garantiert wieder! Leider scheinen vegane Esser so ziemlich alle Raucher zu sein…Vielleicht sollten die Besitzer diese fragen ob sie nicht direkt vor dem Restaurant rauchen könnten! Park ist genau daneben!
