I've stayed in many hotels, but never was my stay as pleasant as at Gasthaus Burkard. From the owner to the staff... super friendly, you're welcomed like you're staying with good friends.
The food was very good... breakfast, you couldn't ask for more.
A big plus: my dog also benefited greatly from these friendly people...
It definitely won't be the last time I spend a few days there.
The location is good, just over the bridge and you are in the town center. The rooms are cold and not comfortable at all, very spartan, functional and cheaply furnished. The curtains should be washed as they are stained. Neither a bottle of water nor a kettle available. The bathroom is very small and old. To get warm water from the shower you have to let it run for what feels like a few minutes to get a thin stream. Another drawback is that the rooms are very noisy. When people are working in the restaurant or kitchen, you can hear EVERYTHING. There is no air conditioning for summer. The advantage is that there are on-site parking spaces, but this means that the hotel immediately asks you not to park on the street.
Breakfast is OK at best. Metro mixed with Lidl and good and cheap. Basically everything is there, but counted and not of particularly high quality (e.g. only baked rolls, not bread or croissants every day, pre-cooked and not refrigerated eggs). Yoghurt is only available sweetened and unrefrigerated in a cup, and only milk with muesli. No cut fruit, coffee only as filter coffee and the juice is the cheapest nectar from Lidl. There is one napkin per person. On the last day we had moldy rice pudding (it sat on the shelf in the restaurant for days).
It's ok for one or two nights without any major demands, but you're unlikely to come back.
Went there today Ice cream is great but the staff is so pushy and unfriendly then he is in a hurry to take the order. Then I haven't finished eating and it's already being cleared away, so I won't go there a second time
The order was taken very quickly, the staff was very friendly despite being busy and requests for changes were no problem.
The food also came quite quickly. The pizza could have had another moment. In terms of taste it could have been a little more.
The salad was good.
I went there with my family for lunch and we enjoyed it.
Super delicious Indian cuisine (I had spicy butter chicken) and also large enough portions and totally reasonable prices!!!
We'd love to come back.
We only had drinks. The prices for the food were a bit too high for us personally. What was delivered to the neighboring tables looked very good and seemed to justify the prices. The staff was attentive, very nice and friendly.
The view is magnificent. You should have done it once.
We were guests today and had a Black Forest cake and an apple strudel with coffee. OMG that was the tastiest apple strudel I've ever had and my girlfriend raved about the Black Forest cherry cake. The coffee was nice and strong, just the way we like it. The lady who served us was very warm, which is very rare today. At the tables next to us we only heard praise and they said, among other things, that they had never had such a delicious chocolate cake. Another table received cheese cake with fresh cream, strawberry ice cream and an Aperol Spritz, and there was also great joy.
We will go there again before we leave.
Thank you for the great experience
The first negative experience came as soon as we entered the restaurant. The lady at the counter, where we waited patiently, calmly carried on pouring beer. No greeting, no good evening, or anything else. It was only when we spoke to her that things started to get lively. After we were assigned a table, our orders were taken. It took about 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive, and another 10 minutes for the food to arrive. Unfortunately, there isn't much good to report about the food either. The chicken breast was so tough that less than half of it was edible. Criticism of this was deliberately ignored. The gyros were crispy, but the pieces were too big for my liking. The pork fillet skewer was unfortunately dry. The side salad was inconsequential and poorly presented. The height of impudence, however, is the fee for exchanging sides. The chicken breast was supposed to be served with fries and rice, whereas the Hermes platter was originally supposed to come with rice and fries. It was implemented, but they charged 80 cents each, without any prior notice. You have to be able to do that, especially since you're not throwing complex compositions out the window; you just need a different standard side dish on the plate. But Bernkastel brings new guests to the restaurant every day, so you don't have to be customer-oriented.
My conclusion... standard snacks in a restaurant atmosphere... isn't necessary.
Ate cheese spaetzle there for lunch today and drank 2 beers. Service was okay, even if we had to go in and draw attention to ourselves, everything was quick and friendly. The cheese spaetzle were ok, but they were “spaghetti spaetzle” in a cheese cream sauce. We were full, we wouldn't order them again.
