The Sunday before last, the two of us had the pleasure of enjoying a late lunch at the Ratsstuben Elten.
This meant we were able to spontaneously reserve a table, as the restaurant is usually fully booked during peak hours. The hostess, Manuela Winkelmann, always tries to find a spot. But that doesn't always work out.
Late reservations can sometimes be unlucky.
We had a mushroom pan, which was very tasty. It was served rustically in a cast-iron pan on a wooden board. The portion is generous and filling.
The side salad that was ordered with it is almost a course in itself, which, based on the hostess's recommendation, is better shared between two people rather than everyone ordering one. Thank you for the kind tip. The salad was delicious and varied.
The homemade Sauerbraten "Rhenish Style" with a dark sweet and sour sauce, served with small potato dumplings and red cabbage, was very good.
The portion is for guests with a large appetite, and it's definitely filling.
The ambiance is rustic and rather dark, which is certainly due to the fact that it was originally a restaurant (pub).
The north-facing window front, which is opposite the church and therefore allows less daylight into the rooms, adds to the atmosphere. This makes it quaintly cozy.
The service is friendly and helpful, and the hostess is a true "Eltense Mädsche" (Eltense girl), with her heart on her sleeve and a correspondingly pleasantly witty and cheeky manner.
The concept is rustic, quaint, with its own charm and typical of the Lower Rhine region.
The price-performance ratio is good.
We keep coming back. :-)
I'd like to add that we were invited to dinner on March 22, 2025, by a group of men.
The pork medallions and the schnitzel with fresh mushrooms in a cream sauce, as well as the mixed platter, were again very good.
Beforehand, we had fresh, warm bread with herb butter and a dip, which was really delicious.
So... we'll be back.
Great and fast service with lots of recommendations for dishes and wine pairings. Refined dishes with great ingredients. Price performance for the 3 course menu fits. Starter, main course and dessert can be freely put together for the price of the menu (theoretically also three desserts). This means that every taste can be satisfied. Cash and card payment possible. A recommended place for a special occasion or even a business lunch.
My goodness!
We've been to many vegan restaurants, but this one is incredibly good!
Soooo delicious, beautifully presented! My goal was to eat enough to eat and that was clearly exceeded!
Cologne, you did not disappoint us!
10/10 stars!
Despite ordering via cell phone, I arrived in half an hour, just like they said. Nevertheless, I had to wait an hour and the pizza wasn't done yet and was still ice cold. No recommendation
Great place and staff. The guy who served at our table on the evening of 19 April was very lovely and attentive. Unfortunately didn’t get his name. Food was fantastic. Since it’s Asparagus season, i got the asparagus meal with the salmon and everything tasted perfect. Asparagus was juicy and sweet and nothing to fault really. Absolutely stunning 😋
You really notice when you eat the grill that you get the leftovers. We ordered with fries and at the bottom there was very little rice and bulgur - you can tell. And it's not the first time I've heard that you can get the leftovers. And it was there within 5-10 minutes. So it's impossible for the Adana and everything to go through so quickly.

So it's not a restaurant with a lingering atmosphere. Quality of the food is top. The price-performance ratio is also brilliant. If you want a good kebab, then you've come to the right place
