Downright romantic!
We spent 2 nights in the spacious “family room” number 7 (room number 5 next door is much smaller). However, the sleeper under the sloping roof should not get up suddenly without thinking. You sink into the soft sofa in the living room in front of the television.
The wooden steps to the second floor were tolerable for heart/asthma sufferers.
The pretty hotel all around is particularly impressive because of its ideal location in the old town. Next door the border stream rushes with the stone crocodile.
Beer garden in front of the house, which closes around 10 p.m. and didn't bother us in terms of noise.
Rolling suitcases on Freiburg's cobblestones are more uncomfortable.
The many different service employees were always friendly and helpful despite minor language difficulties (which was not due to Hessian-Swabian).
Plenty of space in the cupboards too. There is an abundance of sockets in every room (wonderful).
It was very pleasant to shower in the whirlpool-like bathtub. 2 large windows in the bathroom are also welcome.
Kitchenette, microwave etc. available. Fridge is missing (but we didn't need it). However, we were only able to take sparkling water from the restaurant in large containers or in 0.2 liter bottles. Bottled Coke was not offered.
Restaurant/breakfast area in small plots, winding and very cozy.
Breakfast was standard, given our late appetite we were very happy with the cheese spaetzle/salad and 6 snails in the pot. All other guests were in a good mood and had to “move on” to the surrounding area when business closed at 10 p.m.
Unfortunately our experiences weren't so good, there were very long waiting times for the food on Friday evening, unfortunately there was also a lot of confusion at the tables, in some cases the wrong dishes were brought to the tables. The service really tried, but was ultimately overwhelmed. The food itself was mostly quite good when it was finally brought properly.
So we won't come again.
P.S. An espresso or schnapps on the house would actually have been a nice gesture.
This evening, four of us (four women) dined at the Wirtshaus zum Spreisel. The service was very friendly, the food was excellent, and we felt completely at home. We can only recommend it wholeheartedly!
Always tasty, always nice and courteous service that also responds to special requests.
Ambience typical of a student city.
I always enjoy coming to the 'Herzog'
Pizza tasted good, could have been baked for 1 minute longer, was a bit pale.
Fast delivery, ordering via Lieferando without any problems, price performance OK
Dirty, chef very unkempt. Facility also run down. Food too expensive, portion extremely small. Noodles were maybe 4 spoonfuls. Taste totally wrong. I can't recommend it.
I am amazed at the amount of positive feedback. After a long walk, I wanted to drink a freshly tapped beer. Unfortunately there was only bottled beer available that day. Somehow atypical for a pub.
