The four of us ate there last night and it was absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was fantastic! We had sauerbraten, steak, and lamb, and for starters, pumpkin soup and pancake soup. For dessert, we had ice cream and Kaiserschmarrn, and everything was superb! And to top it all off, we were given two jars of quince jelly! We'll definitely be back, thank you!

Family-run, traditional, yet refined! In a beautiful restaurant right in the heart of the old town, directly on the river! I have rarely felt so comfortable and welcome anywhere. The food was outstanding! I'm referring to the fresh sea bream from the daily specials and the rump steak. The value for money was more than reasonable. The service was attentive despite the restaurant being very busy—they even accommodated my small special requests. Thank you for a wonderful evening in Heidelberg. We will definitely be back—even from Munich! 🤍

I've eaten there many times in the past, and the excellent quality of the food has undoubtedly been wonderfully preserved. The service and traditional ambiance are equally impressive. Without a reservation, even on weekdays, there's usually no table available – that pretty much says it all. We'll be back soon...

Last night, the four of us ate at Spreisel. We were all absolutely delighted with the traditional German food, the thoughtfully designed menu, and the charming atmosphere. We also found the owner to be extremely friendly. We will definitely be back.

The restaurant has a very rustic look and a real feel-good atmosphere. The food was top-notch – superb quality, delicious preparation, and a truly great selection. Unfortunately, what completely spoiled the otherwise positive overall impression was the service. The female server (presumably the owner) was very rude. At the next table, the menus were practically slammed down – and the guests there complained. Similarly, the order at the next table wasn't taken until we had already received ours, with the explanation that she "doesn't do that beforehand." Towards the end of our visit, we weren't even asked if we wanted anything else to drink. When it came time to pay, she simply asked, "Separately or together?" – to my answer, "Separately," she commented, "Then say so earlier next time." My response: "If that's important, please ask at the beginning." It's a shame, because the restaurant itself and the food would actually be worth another visit – but the service completely ruined the evening.

We finally made it there! If we'd known how good the food and service were, we would have come sooner. I haven't eaten so well in a restaurant for a long time. But the best part was the handwritten menu. That's what makes the restaurant special. The atmosphere is really lovely. We'll definitely be back. 😉

The interior was really nice and the calm atmosphere was really nice! The owner was really friendly, and the service was great 😍 The food was delicious. I had the haxhe, schnitzel, and tomato soup. I recommend the tomato soup. I'll leave with good memories. Vielen Dank!

Rarely have I eaten so well. The landlady was very, very nice.

We went to dinner with a group of 21 people. At the request of the hostess, the food was ordered weeks in advance to ensure a smooth service. Unfortunately, two guests were unable to attend due to illness. The hostess nevertheless "snatched" their food onto the table, with the comment "what's ordered is ordered and must be paid for," even though they weren't there. No sign of goodwill. Will we go there again? Not really!

Note: Bring cash! This is a really cool spot that I don't think gets enough local attention. It's also hard to find because the name outside doesn't match the name of the restaurant. Look for the hotel pointing at the old bridge. It's wonderful here, the atmosphere is great, and the beer was good. The menu was very cool, even though I couldnt read the German on it well, I fumbled through and it was very fun.

It's high time that the old, grumpy, unfriendly Mr. Ueberle and his wife handed over the business to the next generation before the establishment's good reputation finally goes to the dogs. The only friendly person was the young waiter, who's only allowed to serve drinks (imagine that...)

My wife and I went on a trip to Heidelberg and spent a couple of weeks. After going to several restaurants we found Spreisel and enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much we found ourselves back there several more times during our stay. The people were very nice and the food was delicious, authentic home cooking.

We wanted to have something to eat and drink there, but after we finished our drinks, we agreed to leave. We've never experienced such unfriendly behavior. The restaurant wasn't even full, so it couldn't have been due to stress. If you're overwhelmed or can't handle people, then find somewhere else. It's been a week, and we're still very angry about this kind of behavior.

Only ate here at lunchtime during a motorcycle tour. Lovely terrace in a beautiful location by the famous bridge. Surprisingly quiet despite the hustle and bustle. Friendly service. Good food. Pleasantly paced service. No long waits and no pressure to free up a table. Highly recommended.

This historic inn is located right next to the Old Bridge. The menu reads like an ode to the region, and is more like an entire book. The dishes are classic German fare, incredibly delicious, and the portions are just right. The service is very friendly and attentive, and the wood-lined dining room is a bit rustic but cozy. When the weather is nice, you can sit overlooking the Old Bridge and enjoy the hustle and bustle of tourists. Heidelberg has many restaurants, but truly excellent German cuisine—and you'll find it at the Spreisel!

Very disappointing – not recommended! I ordered herring with potatoes, but the dish was a disaster: The fried potatoes were partially blackened and burnt – absolutely inedible. The herring was drowned in an excessive amount of cream sauce. When I politely pointed out the shortcomings, I was loudly abused by the staff – or even the manager. Such behavior is completely unacceptable in the restaurant industry. Very unfriendly treatment of guests – I will definitely never return. Unfortunately, a negative experience all round.

Very tasty, good, traditional cuisine, definitely worth a visit. The knuckle was juicy and large. The service was very friendly and prepared with love and heart.

Located in Heidelberg's old town, not far from the Neckar River, this uncrowded restaurant with a truly cozy interior fulfills all expectations. The dishes from the beautifully designed menu offer excellent value for money and taste delicious. The staff there are dedicated to the well-being of their guests. Slight deficiencies in allergen labeling are compensated for by friendly service. Even those with celiac disease can find good food here.

Estábamos en la cena, el propietario era muy amable, todo era bastante divertido. Pero... cuando quisimos tomarnos una foto con nuestro perrito, uno de los visitantes, aparentemente amigo del dueño, corrió hacia nosotros y comenzó a amenazarnos, echó a perder el ánimo y por supuesto toda la cena. Los otros visitantes se sorprendieron - se acercaron y felicitaron a nuestro perro ... probablemente querían suavizar las cosas ... pero nunca volveremos a poner un pie allí ... vergüenza ... ¡no hay otras palabras!

A truly wonderful experience! Four of us spontaneously stopped by for dinner on a holiday. The staff is friendly, the food came quickly, and it tasted outstanding. There's a beautiful view of the Old Bridge, and the interior is also very quaint and cozy. If we're ever here again, we'll definitely come back!

Wir sind Um 21:30 Uhr dahin gegangen und haben gefragt ob wir noch etwas trinken könnten . Wie wurden sehr unfreundlich abgewiesen, mit den Worten, es gibt nichts mehr!. Obwohl fast alle Tische noch am essen waren und es ja ein Gasthaus ist , das bis 23 Uhr geöffnet hat . Sowas geht gar nicht ! Wir werden dieses Haus nie wieder betreten noch weiter empfehlen, alleine aufgrund der unfreundlichen Situation.

A rustic and charming, owner-operated restaurant where owner Maria cooks in the kitchen herself. The service is excellent, warm, and professional.

We visited with guests from Australia and were completely thrilled. We received a warm welcome upon arrival and were escorted to our table. One of the owners was particularly thoughtful: One of the owners even moved our stroller to the side to make more space – a small gesture with a big impact. The service was first-class: We were offered menus in English, and all communication with the staff was seamless – our guests immediately felt at home. The food was a real highlight: every dish was excellently prepared and lovingly presented. The quality, taste, and presentation were top-notch. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable evening – friendly, professional, and a culinary delight. We would be happy to return and can wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant.

My partner had asparagus with pancakes and hollandaise sauce – perfectly cooked, harmoniously seasoned, and simply delicious. I had the crispy knuckle of pork with bigos, fried potatoes, and salad – a true feast! The knuckle was wonderfully crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, the bigos was spicy and aromatic, and the fried potatoes were golden brown. The service was attentive, friendly, and pleasantly unobtrusive. Everything ran smoothly, relaxed, and very professional. The value for money is also absolutely fair – you get really good quality at reasonable prices. In conclusion: If you want to experience authentic, lovingly prepared German cuisine in a traditional family-run establishment, Wirtshaus Spreisel is the place for you. It's always lovely to stop by this quaint restaurant with truly friendly hosts! If you want truly delicious, freshly cooked food, this is the place for you. We've had asparagus with fresh pancakes and homemade hollandaise sauce several times this season; we highly recommend it! The pancakes are amazing, and of course, the delicious fried potatoes are a must. Even the salad shows that everything is freshly made. You can really taste the passion in the kitchen. For all breakfast lovers, there are special jams for sale, which I highly recommend. Always worth a visit; thank you for still having such great restaurants like yours!

We love coming back to the Wirtshaus zum Spreisel. We can absolutely recommend it. We've always been there with our youngest son, and we've been doing so ever since he was a few months old. Even when he's a little loud, we always feel welcome. The food always tastes really good, no matter what we order from the menu. I highly recommend the Kaiserschmarrn for dessert ;)

First time ever we were very unwelcome by hosts. She didn’t speak any English to us and when we had to leave she spoke English to us explaining all seats were reserved. When we asked taking out food she told us to go to Chinese restaurant. Sorry but we’re not Chinese. We chose this restaurant by recommendation but this was totally wrong. Terrible experience after wonderful time in Heidelberg Schloss. Too bad there are still racists toward Asians in the world.

ZERO STARS! Super rude on the phone when I asked if I could reserve a table by the castle lighting. It's not a problem if it's not possible, but you can also say so politely!! Shame on yourselves for this kind of behavior! You should take all the bad reviews to heart and change your behavior and attitude towards paying guests!!

One of the best restaurants in Heidelberg, and one we love to go to again and again! It's not just the excellent food of consistently high quality that makes every visit a special experience, but also the warmth of the hosts, who accompany you from the beginning to the end of your visit. Maria and Spreisel, as well as the entire team, always go to great lengths to make a visit to the restaurant a unique experience. We've been there many times, and our friends are also consistently enthusiastic about this restaurant and return again and again—even without us 😉! We have been enjoying coming here for dinner for several years now. This time we were there with 5 people and the others also really enjoyed the food. I ate the cabbage wraps and the rolls were also very tasty. The fried potatoes are unsurpassed. Maria, the owner, is simply great. I've been to the Wirtshaus zum Spreisel a few times and I always go home very satisfied. The portions are not only delicious, but also filling - something that is rare to find in Heidelberg these days. Together with the cozy atmosphere of the Tyrolean-style interior and the friendly staff, this makes the inn an absolute must when visiting Heidelberg.

I have never experienced such unfriendly restaurateurs as in this establishment. We came into the restaurant, were initially ignored, although the landlord definitely saw us and we greeted him, and after a few minutes no one came to seat us, we looked for a seat ourselves - in the mostly empty rooms. Then the landlady came. With harsh words, she directed us from the table we had chosen, after we asked in the negative whether we had been assigned this seat, to the table directly next door, and then demonstratively put up a "Reserved" sign on the table we had previously chosen. For us it was a pure demonstration of “here I decide who sits where”. Actually, we should have gotten up and left at that moment. The rest of the time in the restaurant was similarly unfriendly and cold, as if we were intruding; Only one younger employee was nice and accommodating. The menu was visually interesting, although unfortunately a little confusing due to its playfulness. The food was OK. The atmosphere, purely in terms of the furnishings, was actually very cozy, but the constant unfriendliness and arrogance of the landlady unfortunately completely destroyed any feeling of well-being. We will definitely never go to this restaurant again where we consistently felt unwelcome. Let's hope the landlady just had a bad day...

If you ask if you can use the toilet for a fee and you are rudely turned away, why should you leave your money there??? I have never experienced such unfriendly behavior in any city

An all-round perfect evening in the middle of Heidelberg! The food was simply fantastic - the rump steak LeMans, the wild salmon, the beef roulade and the knuckle were excellently prepared. The service was quick, attentive and extremely accommodating, so we felt we were in good hands. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, ideal for a relaxing evening. Our group of 12 men found space without any problems as the reservation was straightforward. Our table right by the fireplace was particularly nice. Price-performance was also great – everything is just right here. Clear recommendation for anyone who wants to enjoy excellent food and first-class service in Heidelberg!

Quaint restaurant with very good food! Can be recommended!

Haven't been there for a long time, but the food is still great. The quality is excellent and has been that way for decades, something that not every restaurant can achieve. I love the Odenwälder rum steak and it still tastes great even after more than 20 years when I was there for the first time. I still order the fried potatoes as well. It just has to be. Thanks for that.

We were staying at the hotel next door. By the way we decided to eat at Spreisel and were surprised. It was very good and plentiful.

We went as a family. The waiters and the owner were pleasant. They came to see us several times to make sure everything was going well. The food was typical, very good and plentiful. We ate well, I recommend.

We went there for dinner for the first time on Sunday and had to go back immediately on Monday. A fantastic cook who works with love and heart in her kitchen. And you can taste it. The service: attentive and very friendly. We know where we “have to” eat again next time.

Nice, cozy restaurant! We came without a reservation and food came very quickly after we ordered. The owner was super nice and very attentive. Everything we ordered was so good, from the food to the special light beer! 10/10, would come again to try different dishes!

Super friendly staff and amazing food! One of the best meals in Heidelberg. I came in for lunch after a visit to the castle and was greeted kindly by the owner. Cozy atmosphere and totally recommend the Le Mans steak, schnitzel and Ms. Lendchen.

Ich liebe es immer wieder beim Spreisel zu essen. Oft bin ich mit meinem Kollegen abends hier, wenn wir gemeinsam in Heidelberg sind. Es ist sehr gemütlich, das Essen ist einfach nur toll und ich habe die Wirtsleute in mein Herz geschlossen. Freue mich schon auf den kommenden Februar, dann bin ich wieder da und werde wieder einen tollen Abend genießen!

It's like coming home every time. I was in Heidelberg again for two days on business and ate at Spreisel both evenings. What a great roast goose with red cabbage!  For me it couldn't be nicer! Great food, cozy dining room with loving hosts... I'm looking forward to February, then I'll be back! Many thanks to the Spreisel team!

I have never experienced such a rude owner! Instead of an entrecote, I wanted to have a rum steak with the side dishes of the entrecote. According to the owner, there are 40 dishes on the menu, so I shouldn't make any special requests!!! It's very disgraceful!!!

Gemütliches Restaurant mit urchiger Einrichtung. Die Portionen sind sehr gross und das Personal ist mega freundlich und aufmerksam und aufgestellt auch wenn das Lokal viele Gäste hat. Preis-Leistung stimmt auch!

Das Gasthaus Spreisel in Heidelbergs Altstadt bei der alten Brücke ist ein echter Geheimtipp für alle, die gutes Essen in gemütlicher Atmosphäre zu schätzen wissen. Das Essen ist hervorragend. Die Speisekarte bietet eine abwechslungsreiche Auswahl, sodass für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei ist. Die Preise für alle Gerichte sind absolut fair. Maria, die Chefin, ihr Ehegatte und das gesamte Team sind äußerst freundlich und aufmerksam. Die Kombination aus leckerem Essen, gemütlichem Ambiente und dem herzlichen Service machen den "Spreisel" so besonders.

Very nice and quiet guest house. The food was really tasty. The selection of wine and food is extensive. There were fresh roses on the tables, the candles on each table were already lit - very cozy. The service was friendly and accommodating. 🙂

We asked for a table for 3 at short notice around 6:30 p.m. and were lucky despite reservations. The restaurant is small, cozy and the service was very courteous. We hadn't expected that in this situation and the whole thing was topped off with the very tasty food! A very nice evening

Super cute traditional family restaurant, fast and friendly service, very large selection of dishes, homemade and very tasty. The prices are a bit higher but the price-performance ratio is right!

The friendly waiter greeted us, and the chef then showed us to a nice table area. The food is homemade, but with German precision in taste and presentation; that's Maria's obra. The local dark beer complements my dinner. great service. If you are in Heidelberg, this place is the place for heart and hearth. It's a local favorite.

Very cozy and not overcrowded. Nice ambience and good food with a lovingly designed menu - here called a book. Prices are still very reasonable here. Here the boss is still out in the restaurant and taking care of things. We can only recommend it here. Been here as a couple.

It's nice to sit on the terrace and the service is relatively quick and friendly. Unfortunately there is only one vegetarian dish (apart from salad). Chanterelles with cream sauce, dumplings and salad. The chanterelles were certainly fresh and the cream sauce consisted of whipped cream being poured over the mushrooms. The sauce was neither seasoned nor flavorful in any other way. The dumplings were also absolutely tasteless and sticky. The salad with the ready-made dressing was delicious and fresh. Of course, it's possible that the meat-heavy dishes in this restaurant are very tasty, but I can't judge that. I find it disappointing and out of date to only offer a vegetarian option that isn't even tasty.

Last Thursday evening I had dinner with friends (SWR 3 crew) at the “Zum Spreisel” restaurant. What should you say or write? From the reservation the day before, to the great service, as well as the delicious main course and the wonderful dessert, there is nothing to complain about. It was once again very nice, very funny and also very tasty. I can only recommend everyone to go there and try out all the delicacies. ENJOY IT 😂😂😂

Violently racist. I have now read several comments here about “colored” people being sent away on the grounds that it would close. We didn't think anything of it and they didn't even look us in the face and tell us it would be closing soon... it was 8 p.m. and they were open until 11 p.m. and other people were still allowed in?! I have never experienced anything like it. Better go to the Thai guy across the street who was super sweet and nice…
