Marktstübel in Heidelberg

The service was okay... The ambiance was a bit old-fashioned... but that's always a matter of taste... I was bothered by the many stuffed animals that have probably been hanging on the walls for the last 40 years. I was completely disappointed by the Jägerschnitzel (hunter's schnitzel). Very small and barely visible, served in a soggy hunter's sauce with canned mushrooms. The salad was just half a spoonful of coleslaw, also covered in the disgusting sauce. All this for a whopping €19.90. I could have gotten something better at any fast-food joint. Not recommended.

Love the food. And the staff was very friendly, helping us navigate the menu as we do not speak German.

Four of us ate there. My meal was of poor quality. The salad was partly wilted and quite bland. The meatballs were inedible, and the potato salad was probably from a large bucket and also not good. My companion's cheese spaetzle was also borderline tasty. We were definitely not satisfied with the quality of the food.

How someone could make such a simple product like tarte flambée so poorly at this price remains a mystery to me. They skimped on inexpensive ingredients like onions and bacon. Half of it was even burnt black. Never again!

The best thing about this café/restaurant is its location. It's right on the market square in Neuenheim. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the service and food. We were there for a coffee and wanted to order apple strudel. They were out of stock, so they suggested Kaiserschmarrn as an alternative. What arrived would have made any Viennese fall off their chair. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture, but let me describe it like this: it looked like spaetzle on the outside, but with a mushy consistency, drenched in vanilla sauce. It tasted quite acceptable, but it simply had nothing to do with Kaiserschmarrn. Then things got a little cheeky with the bill. They just randomly and manually added a price because this dessert wasn't officially listed on the menu. When I asked why the dish couldn't be properly billed on the bill, they explained that it was seasonal and therefore could only be entered by the chef, who wasn't there. The head chef was then called in for backup, and he tried to explain to me that this was normal. The item was entered in the cash register, but still couldn't appear on the invoice... I used to work in the catering industry, and to me, this looks like someone trying to earn some extra money while working behind the cash register...

Very basic German cuisine, essentially schnitzel and fries in various versions and not much else. Average quality, but good salad. Menu only in German, they don't take credit cards. Pleasant interior. Outside, tables in a very pleasant square (formerly a market square).

Perfect! If you're Dutch and you're in Germany, you have to eat a schnitzel. I had two here, and they were excellent! Great atmosphere and friendly staff.

An all-around fantastic experience! The restaurant impresses across the board – from the lovingly prepared food to the first-class service and the harmonious ambiance. Ten years ago, when I still lived in Heidelberg, I always enjoyed coming here. Today I cycled here especially from Darmstadt. The owner is very friendly, and the food is still delicious. Highly recommended. They serve excellent tarte flambée and salads. I'm very health-conscious myself and feel at home here. My father also often came here in the evenings with a business friend or the whole family.

A definite recommendation! In addition to high-quality, handcrafted food, the Markstübel also has a welcoming atmosphere. The waiters always put a smile on your face with their open manner! The schnitzel, in particular, is super delicious.

Good atmosphere, delicious food, friendly staff. If you don't have a magnifying glass with you, you'll end up stumbling through Neuenheim trying to find an ATM: the card says "cash only" in very small letters – outdated and not particularly customer-oriented.

"Delicious, relaxed, highly recommended!" We had a really lovely evening – fantastic weather, a great mood, and even though it was peak dinner time, we got a table right away. You have to be lucky sometimes! The waiter was really on the ball. The poor guy had to manage the entire outdoor area by himself, yet he was friendly, attentive, and always with a smile. Respect for that! My Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad and a fresh side salad was simply fantastic – crispy, juicy, and delicious. A decent portion, too, and all at a very fair price. My wife had a vegetarian dish, which she really enjoyed – a little smaller perhaps, but perfectly flavorful and perfectly priced. We sat comfortably outside, ate delicious food, and simply enjoyed the evening. The bill was correct, the service friendly – ​​what more could you want? A clear recommendation for anyone looking for good, relaxed dining away from the hustle and bustle of Heidelberg's old town!

Nachdem wir fast 1 Std auf unser Essen gewartet haben - obwohl wenig los war - kam die pure Enttäuschung auf den Tisch: Die Frikadellen mit Salat und Grillgemüse war nur 1 Frikadelle(n), die offensichtilch aufgewärmt und unter der kaum durchdringlichen Kruste mit Fett vollgesogen war. Der matschige Salat dazu gab mir dann den Rest. Selten schlechter gegessen!

We were only in Heidelberg for a short time and were looking for a good, down-to-earth restaurant and found it here. We were lucky to get a table, as all the restaurants were fully booked over Pentecost. The food was delicious and the service was really very good, despite the crowds. We would come back anytime and can only recommend it.

Недавно довелось побывать в этом замечательном ресторане, и впечатления превзошли все ожидания! Атмосфера уютная, тёплая, с типичным немецким колоритом — деревянные детали интерьера, ненавязчивая музыка и приветливый персонал сразу создают ощущение уюта. Но самое главное — это кухня. Немецкие блюда были выше всяких похвал! Все очень вкусно, сытно и явно приготовлено с любовью. Отдельно хочется отметить обслуживание — официанты были внимательны, ненавязчивы, и всегда готовы помочь с выбором блюд. Однозначно рекомендую это место всем, кто хочет попробовать настоящую немецкую кухню в её лучшем исполнении. Обязательно вернусь снова!

We were at Marktsübel and were very pleased. The food was served quickly, everything was fresh and really unusually tasty, you can feel that they cook with soul. I was especially pleased that the staff was very friendly and attentive, without exaggeration - it was just nice to be in such an atmosphere. I would like to separately note the cleanliness: in the hall and on the terrace everything looked neat, well-groomed, a feeling of coziness from the threshold. The place is definitely worth a visit - the impressions were very positive.

I rarely write reviews, but Marktsübel really impressed me. The dishes are beyond praise: freshness, taste and presentation at an excellent level. Everything is prepared with attention to detail, you can feel a good chef. The staff is a separate plus: friendly, attentive, but unobtrusive. Both the hall and the restroom are perfectly clean. For me, this is always an important indicator. I will be back with pleasure.

Das Essen war eine Unverschämtheit. Der Teig derTarte Flambee noch roh, die Bulettr bestand aus 90%Fett, der Kartoffelbrei war kalt, der überbackene Feta verbrannt. Zu guter Letzt versuchte man, uns 10Euro zu viel zu berechnen. Nie wieder.

What a beautiful and amazing restaurant. We were there with a group of 10 people without a reservation and everyone was thrilled. The staff was very friendly and absolutely accommodating to every request. The market square in Heidelberg/Neuenheim is a lovely experience. Reminds me of Italy. Good price/performance ratio! Anyone who likes German cuisine is in good hands here. Keep it up, we'll be happy to come back on our next visit to Heidelberg.

Unfortunately, my visit to the Marktstübel left a lot to be desired and caused my feelings to oscillate between disappointment and anger. There seems to be a huge lack of creativity in the kitchen here; I noticed that they even skimped on spices like salt and pepper. My meatball was more like a lump of fat and was surrounded by extremely tasteless accompaniments. The feta came to the table burnt and I even had to return the Tarte Flambee once because it was raw and the second time it was only a little like what you would expect from a dish of this type. Despite the disappointing culinary experiences, I have to say that the Marktstübel is in a very nice location.

We were there with 3 people. The rump steak was small and not good. Not clear whether it was even a real rump steak. The chicken steak had to go back because it wasn't cooked. The veggie meal was ok. Overall the restsurant is not well maintained and dirty. That doesn't whet your appetite. The waiter tried hard, but couldn't save the impression. Too bad

There were six of us in this restaurant and we were quite disappointed. The portions we ordered were quite small for the price. The ambience is typically German, which we liked. The tarte flambée that we ordered was served with no toppings - very annoying. After asking, the waiter said that things like that are often left out. A friend had a meat skewer where the meat smelled rancid and tasted bad. The waiter said he had seen this happen here before and nothing would be done about it. We were given a meal waiver, but the quality was still very poor. I wouldn't recommend it again.

We were there on the 21st/22nd. March here, the bad reviews are incomprehensible. Everything was delicious and we felt very comfortable. Also because of the excellent service. Our 2 year old daughter was completely in love with the friendly and warm waiter ;)

Very nice old restaurant in a cozy part of Heidelberg near the Neckar. The food (rump steak) was prepared to perfection. The service is a friendly man who understands his work and obviously enjoys it.

Unfortunately, I haven't been to this once very good restaurant for a long time. Unfortunately I can no longer recommend the restaurant. The outside seats were all occupied and there was only 1 person for service. We waited about 25 minutes until the service came and then about another 25 minutes until the drinks were served. The food came relatively quickly and was ok. Conclusion: There are much better restaurants in Heidelberg.

We sat outside, across from the restaurant. Fast, friendly service. The food was ok, nothing more. The schnitzel was good, but the hunter's sauce tasted like sauce. Mushroom pieces could be guessed at 🤷‍♀️ and the fries looked very similar to mccain's. A little salt and pepper wouldn't have hurt the meal either 😉

Disastrous welcome, no more space on the terrace except for the locals! Tasteless food, the waiter literally tipped himself 4 euros (without giving us change!!!) Restaurant recommended by the backpacker guide, I strongly advise against it!!!

The service here was a little slow on account of the fact that they seem to be severely understaffed right now; it took an hour to get our food from when we sat down. However, the food was delicious (I had the skewer), and the beer was good, while the atmosphere was nice but nothing to write home about. I recommend it if you happen to have a lot of time on your hands, or just want a slow evening spent enjoying the night air of Heidelberg. If you're in a rush, or really hungry, you're probably better off looking elsewhere.

Wish I could give no stars, terrible customer service, very slow and did not apologise for slow service. And then I received wrong order, but because I don’t speak German I didn’t realise until I re read the menu. I was soooo hungry by this point I just ate it as it would take a century to get their attention, and an even longer wait to receive correct order. When I complained and requested for the bill minus my meal they refused. Had to fully pay and completely ruined my evening. Will not return, food was also mediocre. To top it off, the waiter said they had only 3 staff members on that night, one on the bar, one serving and the other in the kitchen. On a FRIDAY NIGHT! The way it was phrased also made it seem like it was the customers fault they were short staffed! I was offered a free drink but I was ready to leave and wanted to the bill minus my order. They said they could not do this as the chef had already left. This seemed incredibly ridiculous to me.

Nettes Lokal am Marktplatz in Neuenheim. Saßen draußen, was viel ausmacht. Der Marktplatz ist wirklich schön. Entspannte Atmosphäre. Wir haben Flammkuchen gegessen. Der war gut. Salat eher nicht. Die Bedienung war freundlich. Innen kann ich nicht beurteilen.

Uriges Lokal mit schönem deutschen Ambiente. Das Essen schmeckt gut und das Personal ist freundlich, sodass man gerne auch Mal länger sitzenbleibt.

Decent food. We had 2 salads with standard dressing. They were nice and fresh, but nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, the dumplings (Maultaschen) were a convenience product and tasted a bit nasty.

Wir waren zu zweit zum Essen da, auf dem Platz vor dem Restaurant. Auf Grund des schönen Wetters waren alle Tische, auch die der anderen Gastronomen gut besucht. Unsere Bedienung war freundlich und zuvorkommend, das Essen prima. Mit einer zweiten Kraft im Außenbereich wären die Wartezeiten entsprechend kürzer gewesen und die Gäste hätten auch mehr bestellt. Einer alleine konnte das nicht bewältigen…

Man sitzt schön am Marktplatz, innen schöne alte Kneipe. Ich hatte ein "Kochkäseschnitzel" hier wurde sehr an Kochkäse gespart,Salat gab es nicht dazu, wurde mit wenig Liebe angerichtet! Geschmeckt hat es.Da man keine halben Sterne geben kann runde ich auf 3 Sterne auf!

Uriges Restaurant, trotz später Stunde wurden wir freundlich bedient und bekamen auch noch etwas zu Essen. Vernünftige Preise und gute Mengen. Wir wurden satt und das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker. Die Toiletten sind sauber ,wir haben uns wohl gefühlt und können das Restaurant empfehlen.

Schönes traditionelles Gasthaus in Heidelberg. Käsespätzle waren sehr lecker. Kann ich empfehlen. Preis sehr fair. Alles in allem ein gutes Restaurant.

Der Marktplatz und das dazu gehörige marktstübel lädt mit seiner gemütlichen Atmosphäre ein nach einem hektischen Tag noch ein wenig zu entspannen. Professioneller Service, welcher auch bei voller Besetzung nicht hektisch wird und immer sehr zu vorkommend ist. Abwechslungsreiche Speisekarte, wo für jeden was dabei ist. Kleine Extrawünsche werden immer und jeder ist zu Frieden. Preislich gibt es auch nichts zu meckern und die Preise stehen in einen sehr guten Verhältnis zur Qualität, für neuenheimer Verhältnisse sogar noch mehr als gerechtfertigt. Wir freuen uns immer wieder die schöne Loction mit der sehr guten Qualität genießen zu können. Vielen Dank dafür und weiter so

Great Flammkuchen and nice location

Leider war das Essen mangelhaft. Wir hatten einmal Cordon Blue und einmal hausgemachte Frikadellen mit Kartoffelsalat und Gemüse bestellt.. Das Cordon Blue kam aus der Friteuse und war hart. Die hausgemachten Frikadellen waren sehr gut, aber der Kartoffelsalat kam aus dem Eimer und schmeckte furchtbar. So etwas darf in einem bürgerlichen Restaurant einfach nicht passieren und der Koch sollte sich dafür schämen. Sehr schade für dieses alte Restaurant in Neuenheim. Die Speisekarte ist viel zu umfangreich. Der Kellner war freundlich aber überfordert. Ein Kellner ist zu wenig um im Innen- und Außenbereich zu arbeiten.

Comida básica local de boa qualidade é feita na hora. Garçom simpático e muito rápido atendendo. Os preços são justos e se pode comer ao ar livre.

Alte Deutsch Essen Rustical Environment

Wir waren mit der Clique da und haben versucht was veganes zu bekommen, weil wir den Abend mit den anderen Allesessern eben auch genießen wollten. Heraus kamen zwei Varianten Backofengemüse, die beide gleich schmeckten. Es war geschmacklich nicht mehr als ok, satt geworden sind wir nicht, und den vollen Preis mussten wir auch bezahlen, obwohl wir auf dem Teller nur das halbe Gesicht hatten. Dabei hatten wir am Vortag noch angerufen und es wurde uns versichert dass wäre kein Problem, man würde uns was zusammenstellen. Einfach nur den Käse weglassen ist nicht "zusammenstellen"... traurig, das es 2020 nicht ein rein pflanzliches sattmachendes Gericht (mit Proteinen) auf der Karte gibt. Und die davor hochgelobten Pommes waren auch maximal mittelmäßig. Für uns in Zukunft keine Option mehr.

Nous sommes allés à la découverte de ce quartier et avons suivi les conseils du Guide du Routard pour aller dans ce restaurant. La place dehors était pleine si bien que nous avons mangé seuls dans la salle . Le service est sympa et je dois reconnaître que le serveur était sympathique mais les plats servis étaient décevants ( Käsespätzle secs et réchauffés sans trop de fromage - Schnitzel et frites sans intérêt pour mon conjoint ) . Franchement, pour un prix identique, vous vous régalerez plus ailleurs je pense car ce sont les pires Käsespätzle sur les 5 tentés cette semaine là .

5 Sterne de Luxe für Atmosphäre, Essen & Service.

War letztes Wochenende mit paar Freunden hier zum Essen. Sind länger geblieben als geplant, da das südmediterrane Ambiente auf der Terrasse, das ausgezeichnete Essen sowie der aufmerksame Service uns bis zum Lokalschluss verweilen ließ. Von mir der absoluter Preis/Leistung Top-Tip für Heidelberg. War den Tag darauf zum Mittag gleich nochmal da, diesmal gab es Flammkuchen. Weiter so!

Schnitzel „Marktstübel“ super lecker, nette Atmosphäre, sehr zu empfehlen.

Keine Kochkunst erwarten, um aber ein Glas Wein oder Bier auf einem wunderschönen Marktplatz zu genießen, ist es hier wunderschön.

Nach einem wunderschönen Tag in Heidelberg wollten wir gemütlich den Abend mit Essen ausklingen lassen. Wir waren etwas zu früh da, doch ein sehr emphatischer Kellner ließ uns trotzdem freundlich eintreten, mit dem Hinweis, dass es noch ein paar Minuten dauern würde. Wenige Minuten später nahm er bereits unsere Bestellung auf. Er ging auf unser 5jähriges Kind ein indem er den OSaft extra erwärmte und brachte auch extra eine kleine Gabel für ihn, ohne dass wir etwas sagen brauchten. Das panierte Schnitzel wurde frisch frittiert, unsere 2 Flammkuchen waren ausgezeichnet und auch der Apfelstrudel war super... Als eine ältere Dame (evt. Stammgast) das Lokal betrat, ging der Kellner ihr entgegen und fragte ob er ihr einen roten Hauswein bringen dürfte, was sie sehr erfreute. Er machte smalltalk mit ihr, bis ihre Begleitung auch ins Lokal kam. Alles in Allem ein gemütliches Lokal mit schöner Hintergrundmusik, gutem Essen zu gesunden Preisen... Ich empfehle dieses Lokal sehr gerne weiter!!
