Great ambience in a beautiful location in Freiburg's old town. The service at the beginning of our meal was very friendly and attentive. There was nothing to complain about about the dishes themselves - they were consistently delicious. Unfortunately, we weren't noticed after that, so we sat with empty plates and glasses for 40 minutes and would have liked to have had something to drink and eat. There really wasn't anyone around anymore. Instead, we ultimately paid in disappointment and therefore unfortunately do not recommend the sickle forge.

Very rustic restaurant with authentic Baden cuisine at very fair prices.

Quaint restaurant with a beer garden. Classic regional dishes of good quality. Was very tasty. I can't rate the hotel.

The staff was very friendly. The hotel is very centrally located. Food was OK. The single room is not recommended, it should probably be used as a storage room. No proper windows to ventilate, all windows broken. The room is located directly on the balcony where the smokers meet. And probably the exhaust pipe from the kitchen runs long. That's how it smells in the room!!! But the rooms are clean.

There are solid dishes here at reasonable prices. The service is friendly and quick. The atmosphere is cozy. We always enjoy coming back for dinner.

I was very satisfied. Unlike various other reviews, the meal didn't take too long (around 25 minutes) and it was very tasty. I chose rolled suckling pig with Brägele.

We stayed in one of the rooms and ate in the restaurant. The food (in the evening) was absolutely delicious. The Kässpätzle were spicy and served hot. The veal cheeks were tender, juicy and almost melted in the mouth. We barely waited more than fifteen minutes for our food. Every service person we met was friendly, warm, attentive and took their time. The room is a bit small, the mattress is fantastic and everything is sparkling clean. The whole building is old, old fashioned (consistent) and has some corners that could use new paint or other renovation. The service, the great food and the 1a mattress absolutely made up for it for us.

We ate there on the outside terrace. Delicious food and nice ambience.

I ate here last night with my friend and it was incredible. The traditional German cuisine was something I wasn’t prepared to enjoy nearly as much as I did. I can’t wait to come back and eat here again. 10/10

Visiting from the US and what an experience! We happened to stumble across this place after being turned down by two other restaurants—no reservations—and we were greeted like family. You could taste the ounces of love in every bite. This was one of my all time favorite dining experiences. If you’re looking for a quality meal and stellar service, don’t walk here. Run!

Restaurant with very good regional cuisine

We were there with 3 couples, the rooms are perfect, not big but ok, the food and breakfast were excellent, the staff was super friendly.

Unser 3. Abend, die 3. Location, der 3. Volltreffer. Leider keinen Platz im Außenbereich ergattert. Essen, Service, Preis/Leistung ein weiteres Mal absolut okay!

Shortly before 12 o'clock we wanted to order food and were informed by the employee that she couldn't put the order in the kitchen until 12 o'clock and we had to wait another 6 minutes. MA training would be urgently needed. The food was a disaster. Cold plate, so the unsalted spaetzle was cold when served, and the meat was tough and inedible. Finally, the toilets. Just “Disgusting” If I had taken this route before ordering, I would definitely have forgone everything in the first place. Not recommended and 1 star is still too much

Leider in gar keinen Fall mehr zu empfehlen. Lieblos gekochtes Essen in minderer Qualität. Die schöne Location und die nette Bedienung konnte das leider nicht wett machen. Das Essen war fad. Das Fleisch war zäh und trocken. Die Soßen und Spätzle waren nicht selbstgemacht. Viel zu teuer für diese Qualität. Sehr enttäuschend für ein Lokal, dass früher mal so gut war.

Die Lage ist hervorragend und das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Die Portionen sind mehr als reichlich. Leider ist das Essen geschmacklich nicht so wie ich es mir gewünscht hätte. Mein Schäuffele war trocken und die Bratkartoffeln habe ich liegen gelassen. Mein Beilagensalat muss schon länger gestanden haben.

Unfortunately the location is good, so you can probably rip off any tourist, and unfortunately no good restaurateur wants to do that anymore, only jobbers and no more heart and soul!!! A pity

Highly recommended if you want to be completely ignored by three waiters out of four present, not even get a drink after 30 mins of waiting, even though the place didn't seem to be busy what so ever. Fantastic location is no excuse for arrogance and poor customer treatment. Shocking experience!

The terrace is located along the Insel, near the Schwabentor in the pleasant Gerberau street. You can easily walk to the Martinstor, enjoying the beautiful places.

Location is great! The waitresses are friendly. The food is delicious and the portions are big enough. Unfortunately, the price level for farm-style cuisine is a bit too high. This is Freiburg and not Stuttgart or Munich... At the shift change at 5:00 p.m. you are pressured to pay or asked to wait until 5:00 p.m. to place your order. Not customer oriented...

My review is for the restaurant. Granted that I am a very patient person, however this was the worst experience in recent years. We waited more than 2 hours for our food, which didn't even arrive!! 3 times we asked for "explanations", given that the tables near us, also after a long wait, were at least already eating. The waitress said she goes to ask in the kitchen, but she never came back, to give us a "Feedback", answer, anything. Professionalism at level 0. Never again!

The food was very tasty and I liked the atmosphere. Unfortunately very long waiting times. With almost 90 minutes of waiting for the food, it was already very close to the limit.

Siamo capitati per caso durante il nostro viaggio ma non tornerei neanche se mi offrissero il pasto. Non hanno cura minimale dei clienti, ci hanno dato un tavolo piccolo piccolo ed il tavolo più grandino a lato vuoto...cibo raffazzonato, che voglio dire,,,sicuramente congelato e poi cucinato. Abbiamo preso per non sbagliare due bistecche di carne Argentina che non sapevano di nulla ,forse si salvavano le patate che accompagnavano il piatto. Faceva parte della scelta una insalata condita con olio improbabile. Il servizio approssimativo. E poi non voglio continuare poiché sono molto deluso,,abbiamo speso 40 euro a testa per una esperienza da non ripetere. Suggerimento,,guardatevi da questo posto.

Popped in for lunch while traveling in Germany. Nice place, service as acceptable as the food. I think there is a better offer in the area.

We liked their food very much. We ordered Steak, Turkey schnitzel and tagliatelle. It was all very delicious. The waiters and the owner lady were very attentive and polite. A nice place where you can taste traditional German dishes. It has a view overlooking the canal.

Tolles Ambiente, alles in Schmiedeeisern und total gemütlich. Nettes Personal und sehr aufmerksam . Essen war Spitze.

We only tried the restaurant but while my friends were relatively satisfied, I was disappointed by my turkey schnitzel with spaetzles. The quantity of spaeztlés was small and the turkey steak microscopic, all for 19€90. I paid 25€ with a coke, and I came out hungry. AVERAGE… The service, although a little long, was correct and polite.

Something really has to happen so that the food comes close to what it used to be. The wateriest and most tasteless asparagus I have ever eaten. Seemingly fresh and local; I have my doubts. Conclusion: unfortunately nothing special. The sanitary facilities complete the picture at the bottom. It's a shame and hopefully better in the near future!

The food was excellent ... but its late arrival was something unrepeatable! 1 hour and 45 minutes with cheap excuses that the cook has a problem on his hands, while the other guests were eating on time!!! They must have forgotten us! Unfortunate event...he compensated us for the food, even if it was delayed!

We went to dinner at the Sichelschmiede today. I had beef cheeks and my husband had the onion roast. The beef cheeks were not braised until tender, the fat usually melts when stewing, but here it was still in the meat. The spaetzle wasn't homemade (and in Baden-Württemberg), the sauce was a gravy with a lot of salt and glutamate (Convinence product) and the price of €25 was a disgrace. The onion roast is a thick, dry piece of meat with the same sauce. Here you have no idea about cooking. The best part were the salads! For a meal like this, €60 is a disgrace! The two young ladies in service were nice and polite. The boss clears the plates and doesn't even ask if we were satisfied! The loud discussions among the staff are not appropriate even when guests are present!

Simple hotel, but clean, value for money. Food OK.

We were hotel guests from Friday to Sunday. In 30 years of professional and personal travel, I have never experienced such indifference. The rooms urgently need renovation. The floor is swollen, the windows can hardly be closed, the furniture is rather thrown together. Our room was right next to the utility room, where we worked from 6 a.m. on both days and the washing machine did its job with a lot of unbalance. Sleeping, impossible. In the evening it only became quiet when I got dressed again and asked for silence. Work continued in the said room until 11:30 p.m. The employees were shouting in the hallway and slamming the doors. All in all extremely inhospitable and disrespectful. The staff smoking room is in the same hallway. You can smell that in the rooms too. The food was OK, but nothing special. I can only strongly advise against staying overnight.

Die Sichelschmiede in der Gerberau ist ein gemütliches Restaurant mit einem lauschigen Biergarten. Hier kann man in Ruhe deftige badische Küche genießen. Hinzu kommt ein freundlicher Service!

We were there to eat and waited 1.5 hours for two plates of asparagus, even though we were told at the beginning that it would take about 30 minutes. The service simply ignored us during that time, so we couldn't even order more drinks. A lot went wrong that evening and unfortunately we weren't the only guests who had to wait so long and were quite annoyed. We understand that things can go wrong. But: Proactive communication and a little more empathy would have been desirable.

Outdoor area is admittedly nice, indoors tight but good oldfashioned ambiente, very friendly and attentive staff. the only downturn is the food: bland salad, one of us had a "Wurstsalad" (sausage salad) which was tasteless and tasted rather milky (???) and the argentine steak was all right, but not woth a major detour. So: for a beer or wine in the summer, to rest a while after strolling throught center of town - a pretty good choice.

I have no idea where the positive reviews come from. Of course it was very crowded on the weekend, after we politely asked for a table, we were rudely pushed from one corner to the other to wait! Of course we can't rate the food like that, but friendliness is not a priority here

Great central location. Beautiful beer garden under an old chestnut tree. We went there twice for dinner. It was very tasty both times. The service was very nice and responded to all of our wishes. Gladly again.

Overall, our visit to the sickle forge in Freiburg was very pleasant. The food was excellent and reasonably priced for the location. The atmosphere of the restaurant is typically Baden-Württemberg, very lovingly designed and invites you to linger. Unfortunately, the door was open during our stay, which meant cold wind was constantly blowing in, which was a bit annoying. Nevertheless, the experience impressed us overall and we would be happy to come back.

Tardaron bastante en traer la comida ( el restaurante y la terraza estaban a tope) pero todo muy bien preparado y de calidad. Badisches Schaufele y Pfeffersteak Madagaskar, un entrecot a la pimienta verde, (los sirven con ensalada a parte) dos cafés y dos cervezas de grifo de 1/2 litro por 67,20. Me parece buen precio y muy buena calidad. Aconsejable.
