Großer Meyerhof in Freiburg im Breisgau

We were there on a Thursday around lunchtime and the restaurant was full. The service put us at a standing table to wait and after less than 1 minute we were seated at the table with someone. No problem at all for us. The service was very quick to get us the cards and after a short time we had our drinks. Service was very friendly. Food very tasty, relatively large portions for a moderate price. All salads were very good. You could taste and see that everything was homemade. The homemade Maultaschen are a dream. Everything is perfectly seasoned, not overloaded with salt. We will definitely come back 👍🥰

German cuisine by definition. It's good, it's simple. Relaxed atmosphere, several people who don't know each other at the same table. Efficient and friendly.

Anyone looking for good cuisine in Freiburg city center will find it here. The two of us got a table without a reservation. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The ambience had its own charm and seemed very cozy. We both chose the schnitzel with Brägele and were not disappointed. The food tasted very good.

Found randomly on a cobblestone sidestreet amongst amazing little shops and other restaurants, and so glad my wife and I went. Can't really speak to everything there or even the inside - sat on the patio to people-watch - but three things immediately jump out at me. The location was great to relax and enjoy a late afternoon meal or just a drink. The menu - for us who only speak a little bit of German - was available in multiple languages (English, French, Italian). And the food... so damned tasty. I was really craving schnitzel when we went, and I had two fantastic pork cutlets (served my favourite way with lemon) with spätzle (which was good but not great); my wife had an ox meat roast with creamy horseradish sauce, potato and cranberry jam, and she said it was one of the best things she's ever eaten. The service was really nice but a tiny bit slow, but we were also there at an odd time and it was getting very busy as we were leaving, so I wouldn't blame them for that overall. Definitely recommend.

Baden's traditional cuisine is available here. Liver, sausage salad, Schäufele and co. You have to make a reservation, otherwise no chance. Food great, service quick, prices almost cheap. There is also a cabaret in the basement of the house. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Freiburg.

You're walking through the city center, suddenly you're standing in front of the Meyerhof and you think, I want to go in there. So join the small queue and an employee will assign you a table. I thought it was good, no pushing, everyone got a table, some didn't like it. So we sat in front of the restaurant, right next to a stream, and were served. The service was really good, quick and prompt. Ordered Baden Schäufele and cream schnitzel from pork loin, the house was full, it took a while, but the waiting time was reasonable. The food was very good, we both really enjoyed it, the portions were more than sufficient. But what still had to be added were the baked apple rings. Definitely recommended. Thank you for this pleasant evening.

A time-honored inn, as one would imagine, in the middle of Freiburg's old town. We were here in the evening at the end of August and were lucky to get an outdoor table on a very hot day. We chose salmon with bouillon potatoes or ox breast with bouillon potatoes as well as apple rings for dessert and were very satisfied. Given the quality offered, the price-performance ratio is absolutely right.

Mitten in Freiburg in der Fußgängerzone beim Bertoldsbrunnen: sehr gut speisen kann man in dieser Traditionsgaststätte. Hier gibt es gute und bodenständige Wirtshausküche! Der Speisesaal ist gemütlich eingerichtet, die Tische stehen ein bisschen kreuz und quer, es gibt runde und eckige Tische, es wirkt alles sehr ungezwungen. Es geht relativ laut zu. Die Bedienungen sind freundlich, man fühlt sich gleich wohl. Das Essen ist lecker, es gibt große Portionen zu einem guten Preis. Badische Spezialitäten wie "Leberle“, "Sulz“ und "Ochsenfleisch“, über die legendären hausgemachten Suppen wird alles erst zubereitet, nachdem es bestellt wurde. Gut geschmeckt hat uns die leckere Fischsuppe.

Super oily schnitzlers, glass of tap water €2.70. The waitress with the curly blonde hair (who was the one who took our orders), was very helpful, but asked us to leave a tip when paying, and when she told her that we weren't going to leave, she got angry. We asked the waiter with glasses for 2 glasses of water and after waiting 10 minutes, when we complained, a waitress with a tattoo on her neck jumped out, asking us to calm down. Seriously, rubbish

Everything is very good, plus the menu is in Spanish and the boy who served us has been very friendly at all times. Highly recommended.

Good food but awful service to be seated (except for the young waiter who really helped us).

Great food but service needs improvement. We went as soon as they opened and asked for their bookings. Turns out they only take 4 or 5 a day and the rest are seated as they come, so they told us to show up whenever we would like to eat. When we went a waiter told us that there was no seating and we would have to wait 1h. We asked another waiter and she told us that it was impossible (when we were seeing empty spaces). We asked a third one and he sat us immediately. So, service was quite poor but food was amazing. Highly recommend the spätzle and snitzel.

No reservation possible for the evening as there are only 5 reservations per evening....

Great food in this beautiful place decorated like an old tavern, with wooden walls and ceilings, matching the rustic chairs and tables. Very cozy. They have tables on the outside terrace, but we prefer to eat inside, cooler! Very nice atmosphere. The girl who served us worked hard with the language and communication was good. We ate Schnitzel, breaded pork chops, with fried or roasted potatoes, accompanied by a good beer. Very good! A coffee to finish. By the way, to go to the toilets, you go down to the basements and walk down a long passage that probably served as a refuge during the war.

Wir hatten hier gutes Essen, aber es war teuer. Als ich kam, um die Rechnung zu bezahlen, fragte mich die Kellnerin, ob ich eine Servicegebühr hinzufügen möchte. Ich lehnte höflich ab. Eine Person, von der ich glaube, dass sie der Manager war, kam dann auf mich zu und sagte mir, ich sei „unfreundlich“, weil ich kein Trinkgeld gegeben habe. Ich hätte eine schöne Rezension geschrieben, aber das hat meine Erfahrung zunichte gemacht. Wie unhöflich! Trinkgelder sind optional und sollten immer als solche behandelt werden.

Super tasty food and good recommendation with translation into standard German upon request. We look forward to our next visit to Freiburg. The ambience is certainly appropriate, but not my taste. Sorry but I still gave a fair review.

Menu in several languages, including Spanish!! German regional food and decoration. We had dinner with wine/beer and crrme brulee for dessert. Excellent beef and turkey, attentive and friendly service. No air conditioning, open windows and large tables together to share. When collecting, they give you the choice of a 5 or 10% tip.

We came 4 years ago and the experience was unforgettable. This time the food was good not exceptional but the service not good. The waitresses were rude and treated the natives differently from the tourists. Really disappointing!

The food was delicious and quite cheap for Freiburg standards. The service was quick and very friendly. If you want to eat home-style, the restaurant is recommended.

The Meyerhof is always a destination for us when we visit Freiburg. But this time it went completely wrong. I ordered 'Badische Sulz - sour tripe in wine sauce with fried potatoes'. A plate came with tripe cut into small strips - in a tasteless thin cream sauce. The tripe was too soft, so it was overcooked. The waitress responded very friendly and took the plate into the kitchen. This came back with some chopped parsley on the tripe. Otherwise completely unchanged. Since there were several of us, I didn't want to spoil the pleasant evening with a discussion, so I had some vinegar and pepper brought to me to make this ruined tripe mixture somewhat edible. If you put regional dishes on the menu that are otherwise rarely offered, then the kitchen should really know what they are. And to prevent any possible excuses: in my family we know something about Baden cuisine and especially about tripe dishes. What was offered this time was botched.

All very good. Traditional cuisine of the area. Recommended the ravioli (I requested to change the salad for spatzles). Also very delicious is the potato salad with mustard and sausages.

Discovery of German gastronomy, for a first we were pleasantly surprised. The dishes were very generous and well prepared. The most complicated thing for us was the language barrier, and the end of the meal (clearing, ordering dessert...) was a bit long. (Note: tipping in Germany is highly recommended).

Dejligt lille sted med autentisk mad og venlig betjening. Vi besøgte stedet en super varm sommerdag. Udeserveringen var optaget men vi fik plads indendørs, hvor det var varmt trods åbne vinduer og ekstra indsats med luftblæsere. Toiletterne var ikke super rene og lå langt væk - specielt på rengøringen er der mulighed for at gøre mere. Vi fik fire forskellige retter hvor der også var plads til særlige ønsker til børnene. Alt i alt en rigtig god oplevelse.

To avoid as a tourist. Very good restaurant and nice place but waiters having too much fun and not getting an order right (don’t point at the menu, they don’t get it right too). Nothing done even if you explain your dish is not what you ordered. Not of an extreme politesses in case of confusions like this. There is no point in giving translated menus if the waiters can’t understand them and they don’t even ask for a dessert.

Very nice typical place. We went 2 evenings in a row to eat with our two children aged 11 and 13. We tried some typical dishes and were very satisfied with the food and the service. Prices in line with expectations being in the center of Freiburg. Highly recommended

We have passed by the place looking for where to have dinner and we saw that the comments were good, and it is really a very good place to eat, typical food, quiet area with a very nice terrace. Reasonable prices and abundant dishes. Very good attention! I recommend them!! The 3 of us had dinner for €55.

In the middle of Freiburg - in the pedestrian zone near the Bertoldsbrunnen - you can dine very well in this traditional restaurant with outside tables; The delicious fish soup with aioli is available in small sizes - see photo! The vaulted cellar and toilets there (no elevator) show how old the building is. Cheap lunch!
