Great food in this beautiful place decorated like an old tavern, with wooden walls and ceilings, matching the rustic chairs and tables. Very cozy. They have tables on the outside terrace, but we prefer to eat inside, cooler! Very nice atmosphere. The girl who served us worked hard with the language and communication was good. We ate Schnitzel, breaded pork chops, with fried or roasted potatoes, accompanied by a good beer. Very good! A coffee to finish. By the way, to go to the toilets, you go down to the basements and walk down a long passage that probably served as a refuge during the war.

A typical German place and good food, good quality and price, a complete and filling dish plus a drink can cost approximately €20 per person but you are already full, the service was good and the place is good

Perfect location and good value for money. The schnitzels are fresh, delicious and perfectly prepared, and there are crispy fried potatoes that are just right. The portions are ideally sized and the friendly staff ensure a pleasant atmosphere.

Super tasty food and good recommendation with translation into standard German upon request. We look forward to our next visit to Freiburg. The ambience is certainly appropriate, but not my taste. Sorry but I still gave a fair review.

Menu in several languages, including Spanish!! German regional food and decoration. We had dinner with wine/beer and crrme brulee for dessert. Excellent beef and turkey, attentive and friendly service. No air conditioning, open windows and large tables together to share. When collecting, they give you the choice of a 5 or 10% tip.

Second time going there, nice traditional cooking and good beer!

We came 4 years ago and the experience was unforgettable. This time the food was good not exceptional but the service not good. The waitresses were rude and treated the natives differently from the tourists. Really disappointing!

I had the pleasure of dining at Großer Meyerhof and I have to say it was a fantastic experience! The food was excellent – ​​fresh, tasty and perfectly prepared. A great place to eat traditional dishes and recommended when visiting Freiburg. If it's busy, expect a wait. We recommend ordering drinks and food at the same time to avoid waiting times between orders.

The Meyerhof is always a destination for us when we visit Freiburg. But this time it went completely wrong. I ordered 'Badische Sulz - sour tripe in wine sauce with fried potatoes'. A plate came with tripe cut into small strips - in a tasteless thin cream sauce. The tripe was too soft, so it was overcooked. The waitress responded very friendly and took the plate into the kitchen. This came back with some chopped parsley on the tripe. Otherwise completely unchanged. Since there were several of us, I didn't want to spoil the pleasant evening with a discussion, so I had some vinegar and pepper brought to me to make this ruined tripe mixture somewhat edible. If you put regional dishes on the menu that are otherwise rarely offered, then the kitchen should really know what they are. And to prevent any possible excuses: in my family we know something about Baden cuisine and especially about tripe dishes. What was offered this time was botched.

The food was delicious and quite cheap for Freiburg standards. The service was quick and very friendly. If you want to eat home-style, the restaurant is recommended.

All very good. Traditional cuisine of the area. Recommended the ravioli (I requested to change the salad for spatzles). Also very delicious is the potato salad with mustard and sausages.

Discovery of German gastronomy, for a first we were pleasantly surprised. The dishes were very generous and well prepared. The most complicated thing for us was the language barrier, and the end of the meal (clearing, ordering dessert...) was a bit long. (Note: tipping in Germany is highly recommended).

Great shop, have been here for the third time now: very relaxed atmosphere, super hard-working and very nice employees! Rather manageable menu with an excellent price-performance ratio, no big cinema, but an honest and tidy home-style kitchen. Highly recommended, rustic restaurant in the middle of Freiburg!

Dejligt lille sted med autentisk mad og venlig betjening. Vi besøgte stedet en super varm sommerdag. Udeserveringen var optaget men vi fik plads indendørs, hvor det var varmt trods åbne vinduer og ekstra indsats med luftblæsere. Toiletterne var ikke super rene og lå langt væk - specielt på rengøringen er der mulighed for at gøre mere. Vi fik fire forskellige retter hvor der også var plads til særlige ønsker til børnene. Alt i alt en rigtig god oplevelse.

Waited 45 minutes for the waitress to bring us a card and put away the previous guest's dishes, even though we explicitly asked the waitress to do so. Unfortunately after 45 minutes there was still no response. We went.

The food (Maultaschen) was good, the salad that came with it was even very good. Priced ok at 16.90.

To avoid as a tourist. Very good restaurant and nice place but waiters having too much fun and not getting an order right (don’t point at the menu, they don’t get it right too). Nothing done even if you explain your dish is not what you ordered. Not of an extreme politesses in case of confusions like this. There is no point in giving translated menus if the waiters can’t understand them and they don’t even ask for a dessert.

Very nice typical place. We went 2 evenings in a row to eat with our two children aged 11 and 13. We tried some typical dishes and were very satisfied with the food and the service. Prices in line with expectations being in the center of Freiburg. Highly recommended

In the middle of Freiburg - in the pedestrian zone near the Bertoldsbrunnen - you can dine very well in this traditional restaurant with outside tables; The delicious fish soup with aioli is available in small sizes - see photo! The vaulted cellar and toilets there (no elevator) show how old the building is. Cheap lunch!

We have passed by the place looking for where to have dinner and we saw that the comments were good, and it is really a very good place to eat, typical food, quiet area with a very nice terrace. Reasonable prices and abundant dishes. Very good attention! I recommend them!! The 3 of us had dinner for €55.

Went 6:30 early dinner. Restaurant was quite full at the start and so also end of our dinner. Very casual. Lentil stew was ok. Blackboard special asparagus pancakes were very nice. Ham shoulder was good. We enjoyed the meal and price was reasonable too.

Traditional looks are deceptive, Ready-made schnitzel (probably from the wholesaler) on the menu is advertised as "baked in the pan", price/performance is not justified, the service makes fun of guests with walking problems (observed by myself) May '24

A very “real” guest house. Operation, service super friendly and professional. Riegele country beer is really great. Beef sirloin steak is highly recommended, Schitzel is more of a convenience dish. All in all, a worthwhile visit!

Wir waren zum zweiten Mal im Großer Meyerhof. Gemütliche Gaststätte mit ländlichem Flair und einer ausgezeichneten bürgerlichen Küche mit vielfältiger Getränke Auswahl. Moderate Preise! Freundliches und kompetentes Personal! Eine Vorabreservierung ist unbedingt erforderlich! Ein unbedingtes "Muss" für einen Besuch in Freiburg. Wir kommen im Mai 2025 wieder (:>)

Very nice, competent and uncomplicated service

The food was wonderful. The portions are a bit big for a normal eater. Unfortunately there was no room for dessert and starter. It took a long time for the plates to be cleared and unfortunately the soup came before the drinks. It was very loud, but very nicely decorated.

We all ordered 5 schnitzels with Brägele. The portions were very uneven in size, the Brägele were greasy and burnt, and the food didn't come at the same time. Absolutely overrated restaurant.

Good beer, good service, but the food is too simple.

Even though it was spring, it was raining and cold, so I came in because I wanted some warm soup with sausage. Since I came to Germany, I wanted to try German beer, so while I was wondering what beer to order, I was recommended a local beer and it was good! The other one felt like the pork cutlet I had in Korea, but it was fried thinner in German style and dipped in the sauce that came with it, so it was really delicious. Perhaps because it's a country right next to France, there's a menu in French, so it was easy to order! When I went in, there were a lot of people so there weren't many seats, but we asked to be seated at a large table that still had space, so we were able to eat right away without waiting too long :) The first restaurant in Germany where I have no regrets, where I had a pleasant lunch because the elderly couple I ate with were friendly!

I order a chicken schnitzel, which was pretty good but was raw in the middle. When I told the waitress about it she said 'yes, it is medium', and she didn't ubderstand that you can't eat raw chicken. She took the plate and refried it, but it was still raw.

We went there for lunch today to eat schnitzel...it was hardly a "large" portion...the braegels didn't taste like anything and the schnitzel seemed almost frozen and not freshly breaded...it's a shame it used to be delicious...now the price is out of proportion

There is good, down-to-earth pub cuisine here! The dining room is comfortably furnished, the tables are a bit all over the place, there are round and square tables, everything seems very informal. The waitresses are all extremely friendly and you immediately feel at home. The food is delicious, large portions for a good price. It's down-to-earth, honest food, and you can also go here with larger groups, but you should make a reservation. The kitchen is quick, ideal if you fancy something hearty during your lunch break. What I also really like is that you get a free glass of tap water with your meal.

Eating here is really highly recommended! The staff is very helpful, competent and very friendly! We indulged in the local food and were very impressed with the way it was prepared and presented on the plate! The salad is a poem! Definitely come here... and ideally make a reservation, because this inn is very busy, especially at lunchtime!

Perfect and hearty sntizel, braised beef with top horseradish, small well-seasoned salad, it's good here. We would have liked a few vegetables on the plates, but the potatoes are delicious. Plus service at any time.
