I came here without a reservation but was seated almost immediately despite how busy the restaurant was. I would recommend making a reservation, especially for larger groups. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially my waitress. I ordered the Schnitzel with fries. It was well cooked, though the fries were quite salty. Pricier than other places, but I would absolutely recommend this place to others! :) And I'll probably visit again some time in the future.

It was a nice place, with a cool concept. They have a big menu with options for all kind of dietary wishes. We reserved a table which ich definitely recommended for Saturday evenings. Unfortunately we had to wait about 10 minutes still until our table was ready, which is a bit annoying when you have a reservation, but the staff was nice and the food was also nice.

It's certainly nice for vegans, gluten-free people, or those with similar dietary needs. However, anyone looking for a good piece of meat should probably look elsewhere. The beef was very well-done, even though I ordered it medium, and the taste wasn't really convincing. I've been here twice now, and both times it was disappointing. They should just not offer steak at all if they prefer to focus on their other dishes. In my opinion, vegans and other dietary needs will find something to their liking here, but if you're looking for a steak, you should probably avoid this place; there are better and, in particular, cheaper alternatives. The staff was friendly, but our group had to wait about 1 minute and 15 seconds for our food, which could be improved. The restaurant is quite noisy, and the prices are rather high for a "normal" restaurant.

We'd love to come back. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive. All six of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Highly recommended!

In the land of the potato, there are many special dishes featuring this vegetable. Everything is very tasty and fresh. Some dishes are a bit pricey.

We stopped in spontaneously and were lucky. Every table in the restaurant was occupied, and we were able to sit at the counter and enjoy our meal from there. The food was delicious (vegetarian), and the drinks were excellent (apple-pear punch). Highly recommended...

We were in Freiburg for a few days and ate at Kartoffelhaus twice during that time. Due to my celiac disease, it's always difficult for me to find a suitable restaurant. Kartoffelhaus has a wide selection of delicious dishes, and the staff is very knowledgeable. Both times it was a great visit with delicious food. We ate there today. The food was delicious, plentiful, and freshly cooked. The price/performance ratio was excellent for the excellent cuisine! The service was excellent. We initially sat outside, but with the change in the weather, it was no problem to enjoy dessert in the restaurant. Unfortunately, we're not from Freiburg; we're just here on vacation. I'm sure Kartoffelhaus would become our regular.

Top notch, always worth a stop when you're in Freiburg. Diverse, delicious, regional cuisine. The rump steak was always cooked to perfection. Each of the countless potato side dishes is excellent. Friendly, attentive staff. Only the occasional wobbly table was a nuisance, but nothing that can't be fixed, and the rest is immaculate. Overall, a very good, well-rounded restaurant. I'd happily return.

We ate there this evening with two people. The service was first-class and the food absolutely excellent. We then ordered three takeaway meals: two fried potatoes with baked feta cheese, €18.90 each. One children's plate, which was fine. The fried potatoes were mushy and the amount was more than manageable. The "baked feta cheese" didn't deserve its name; it was definitely not baked. The delivery took 12 minutes, so that couldn't have been the problem. We would have liked to give the food 5 stars, but unfortunately, that wasn't possible. Best regards, B. F.

All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and fresh. Unfortunately, the seating in the room is a bit cramped, which quickly makes it noisy. The chairs are also not very comfortable, as they lack cushions or pillows. With a little more space and more comfortable seating, it would be truly perfect!

Eating with a child with celiac disease is difficult. We had been recommended Kartoffelhaus several times by people with celiac disease. The lady serving the food was very knowledgeable, and we were even given a gluten-free menu. Unfortunately, it was quite busy, and the waitresses were a bit overwhelmed. We had to wait a long time for the food, and the portions weren't particularly large. Due to the stress, the waitresses brought a side dish and a drink incorrectly. We found the dish with rösti and chanterelle mushrooms a bit overpriced at €19.80, since it didn't even include meat. The rest of the price is still reasonable. I think if they hired more staff and someone else in the kitchen, things would run more smoothly. However, what I absolutely didn't like was that my chair was broken and was already falling apart at the front. When I slid to the table with the chair, I pinched my hand twice in that spot. My partner's chair was also starting to fall apart. I hope that all the chairs will be checked again and replaced.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience at Kartoffelhaus. We waited over 50 minutes for our food and were quickly asked to leave because the next guests were already waiting. They then told them we were chatting too long and that the children were taking so long. That's not how you should treat your guests... For dinner, we had half-burnt hash browns, and the potato salad with the mixed salad tasted like it came from the supermarket.

A very nice restaurant, with delicious food and a very dedicated team! Our son was delighted with his gluten-free Wiener Schnitzel. Super-large portions, a great selection of dishes, and reasonable prices. Unfortunately, we had to leave the restaurant a bit too quickly today, but that really had nothing to do with the food or the ambiance. So, once again, a 5* rating!

We came because they had many gluten-free options, something difficult to find in that area. It was typical German food, and we really liked it. For main courses, we ordered the raclette, which we loved because it was very rich in cheese; the schnitzel, which was okay, although what we liked most was that you could choose the type of potatoes (we recommend the sautéed potatoes). It also came with a salad, which we didn't find very good. We also ordered a Kartoffelauflauf (like lasagna, but made with potatoes instead of pasta), which we quite liked, although the beef was a bit spicy. For dessert, we had a gluten-free brownie, which could be better; a crème brûlée, which was good, although the caramel on top was a bit thick and overly toasted; and a warmer Schokoladenkuchen, similar to a moist cake, which we liked more than the brownie but still didn't love. The service was attentive, we felt very welcome, and the place felt very cozy.

I had a really nice experience here with my grandson! The service was of that rare kind - professional, friendly and with a feeling that the staff really knows what they are doing. Here they don't just pick anyone, it shows. The food was good and more than affordable, and the environment itself was much cozier than the pictures on Gogo had made it seem. A warm and pleasant interior, without any hassle. Extra plus for how nicely they handled the fact that my grandson has celiac disease. There was a separate gluten-free menu in place, and it felt natural on their part. That kind of thing is appreciated more than you think.

Following numerous recommendations, we visited Kartoffelhaus for the first time with friends. The restaurant makes a very good visual impression: The dining room is modern and harmoniously designed. Unfortunately, due to a lack of soundproofing, it's very noisy, making normal conversation difficult. The service was consistently friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. However, we weren't impressed with the food. The schnitzels were small, dry, and too brown. The potato gratin wasn't creamy as advertised and was rather plain. Particularly irritating was the "Freiburg green sauce," which turned out to be a simple white yogurt dip. Too bad, our expectations weren't met.

It was quite busy, even on a Monday night. The food was lovingly prepared and the portions were generous. The salad was also very delicious. The poem in the restroom anteroom is also worth reading.

Above all, the service deserves special mention – absolutely top-notch! We haven't been served with such friendliness, charm, and attention in a long time! We went here because we wanted to eat rösti; a very nice place, friendly and efficient service, and very good and beautifully presented dishes (almost all potato-based, of course...). It's a little outside the old town, about 700 meters from the exit gate, but highly recommended!

A very interesting concept. We tried the sausages and the salmon gratin. Both dishes were very good, and they also have gluten-free breaded pork for the kids. The gluten-free menu is extensive and varied, highly recommended for celiacs. Needs to improve: in August, it's 34 degrees and they don't have air conditioning. The Kartoffelhaus in Freiburg is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy good, down-to-earth, yet creatively interpreted cuisine. The menu offers an impressive variety of potato dishes – from crispy rösti to sophisticated variations with vegetables and meat. The rösti with fresh salad was particularly crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside, along with a delicious creamed schnitzel with mushrooms that was perfectly seasoned. The steak was also cooked to perfection, juicy, and flavorful, accompanied by a spicy sauce and a crisp, fresh salad. The portions are generous, so you'll leave the table full and satisfied. The value for money is absolutely spot on here, especially considering the quality and freshness of the ingredients. The service was friendly, attentive, and created a pleasant atmosphere. One small negative point – and the reason for deducting a star – are the numerous flies, which were unfortunately somewhat annoying during our visit. While this is often difficult to avoid, especially in summer, it does detract from the overall impression somewhat. All in all, however, this is a highly recommended restaurant with great food, a cozy atmosphere, and a high return visit value. Anyone craving hearty specialties in Freiburg should definitely stop by!

They have a very large selection. They don't just serve potato dishes, but also many other dishes. Worth mentioning: The basil orange lemonade tastes exceptionally good! Highly recommended. Appetizer: Kohlrabi ravioli: very unusual. Also the price^^ (really not cheap) but it was delicious. Main courses: very, very tasty and filling. Dessert: The strawberry tiramisu was disappointing. Far too much cream, few strawberries, and expensive. The brownie wasn't convincing either. Atmosphere: A water mist is sprayed from nozzles outside. Interesting. All in all: absolutely recommended.

We stopped by this place spontaneously and experienced a few ups and downs. + - Got a table without a reservation on a Sunday - Friendly service - Salad arrived very quickly, other food arrived within the same timeframe - Delicious homemade lemonade - "Cinnamon nuts" with the bill - - The waitress offered me a gravy that, upon request, was made with overcooked alcohol. Since I'm 9 months pregnant, this was rather unfortunate, as I could tell by the taste and then asked about it. - Unfortunately, the dessert menu didn't arrive, so we ended up paying. All in all, it was a good visit, although a few minor things could have improved it. To be fair, it was busy and the waitresses were very attentive.
