Went there spontaneously and were lucky to get a table. The aperitif, the starter and the main course were a poem. Unfortunately, the dessert no longer fit in my stomach. 😅 We'll definitely be back!

Great shop, great selection mainly of potato dishes but not exclusively. We go there with the family every time we are in Freiburg. From 4 to 84 years old everyone can find something tasty. There are special cards that are gluten-free or lactose-free, and there are vegetarian dishes anyway. The conditions are all friendly and attentive and if something doesn't work, e.g. not enough chairs despite a reservation, then something is always remedied immediately. We'll be back!!!!!!

The food (steak with potato gratin) was very tasty, the staff was friendly and there is a menu with gluten-free options. However, I think the price is quite high. Nevertheless, the potato house was very well attended.

The place is very nice and very well located, the service is very good despite not speaking the same language. The concept of a restaurant based only on potatoes is interesting but I do not recommend ordering more than one dish per person because otherwise you will end up saturated with potatoes.

Were there today with 3 people. Potato soup with chanterelles, chanterelles with rösti, bratwurst with fried potatoes and special mustard - all very tasty. Our friend from the USA was also thrilled. Plus a competent and friendly team. Thanks for the great hospitality!

Super delicious gluten-free food! There is a separate gluten-free or vegan menu with a lot to choose from. Our server was very knowledgeable about contamination on a gluten free diet. The gluten-free schnitzel and potato gratin was incredibly delicious. It's best to reserve well in advance as the restaurant is very popular. If you don't find anything on this menu, it's your own fault. But it's not an overloaded menu with a large, conceptless offering. No! Creative dishes that are hard to find anywhere else, vegan, gluten-free and dishes suitable for allergy sufferers are of course available alongside an extremely delicious schnitzel and a juicy rump steak. The companion that gives it its name is almost omnipresent: the potato. The service is attentive and not intrusive in any way. The advice is excellent, and even with a full house, the waiting time is reasonable for such fresh food. We would love to come back.

Our first visit to the potato house left us with mixed impressions. The food was delicious, and the gluten-free and vegan menus are particularly notable. Unfortunately the service disappointed us a little. The fact that despite asking, the door wasn't allowed to be closed and we had to remain seated in the draft contributed significantly to this. When we asked again, the door was closed, but we could hear that the staff were upset about it.

An excellent example of a place where a foreigner can taste local flavors in many nuances, all pleasant: classic, vegan and vegetarian proposals, you can find everything and of excellent quality. The drink list is also very varied: beer, wine and cocktails to match according to your tastes. Well done!

The worst fried potatoes I've ever had.The service was fine

Nine of us recently had dinner here. And I have to say it was disappointing. We had four different waitresses throughout the evening. Who obviously didn't communicate with each other. Which brought chaos to our table. About forgotten drinks/dishes, very long waiting times. Addressing it again can lead to expensive misunderstandings. Unseasoned dishes, bad drinks... Based on the other reviews, I think it was a one-off bad day. However, the disappointment is still there. You pay a lot but get little on offer.

Auf der Durchreise in Freiburg von Italien kommend haben wir uns für das Kartoffelhaus entschieden und es nicht bereut. Ich hatte die Kartoffelsuppe mit Pfifferlingen und meine Frau einen Salat zur Vorspeise. Beides war sehr gut. Als Hauptgericht hatte ich ein 300gr. Rumpsteak auf den Punkt medium gebraten, meine Frau hatte Fettuccine mit Pfifferlingen, auch hier ein Gericht auf den Punkt. Alles in allem ein gelungener Abend, wir kommen garantiert wieder, volle Weiterempfehlung

After a short-term telephone reservation, the two of us were given a place and were able to personally convince ourselves of the high quality of the potato house. First of all: The staff is simply great. On the one hand very relaxed but at the same time highly professional. It's worth coming just for the good service. The food was also excellent. At first glance the portion seemed a bit small, but it was just right. You can tell that there is a lot of experience working here. It's also worth taking a look at the dessert menu. Here too you can only give the best rating. In summary: A visit is worth it. It is best to make a reservation by telephone.

Stopped by spontaneously this evening and was offered a table half an hour later. It was totally okay because there was a lot going on The food was delicious and there was a great selection of regional products. Service was also very on point. Gladly again! 😊

There were two of us in the potato house and we were absolutely thrilled! 🤩 It is a slow food restaurant. Even the non-alcoholic “Orange Basil Crush” was very tasty and refreshing. For the main course we had the Rösti with wild herbs and Raclette cheese gratinated and the potato pancakes with smoked salmon trout, Freiburg green sauce, horseradish and miso sauce. Both were prepared absolutely perfectly and tasted a revelation! You should definitely make a reservation. We were there on a Tuesday evening and it was very crowded. We would love to come back on our next trip to Freiburg to try even more of the delicacies on the extensive menu.

The food was good, the atmosphere was nice and well thought out. In summer, spray mist is used on the outside terrace, which means the climate is always pleasant. The food was good but nothing exceptional, so “only” 4 stars.

Came here to try it because it seemed okay, German food with local wisdom. The result is just b food. The place is full, the distance between the tables is very close. In terms of the concept of using all regional food ingredients, it's okay, but it has to be more than that to be my favorite ✌️😊

Unfortunately today we had a very disappointing experience with very poor service. When I picked up a drink at our table, the glass cracked, so the entire bottom of the glass came off and the table and my pants got very wet. There was no apology from the service staff, no question as to whether anyone was injured, we were just offered another table. We were then served the main course, but when we asked about our starter we were told that it had been forgotten. No apology here either. The food itself was okay, but nothing special, sometimes quite blandly seasoned. The portions were small and value for money was rather poor. You could only shake your head at the poor service, but you don't need to go to the restaurant for that. We won't be coming back.

Absolutely recommended. Great food, super friendly service staff, despite a few questions about allergens and a full house, extremely friendly and professional. Also ideal for celiac disease in children and adults. There is rarely such a selection of gluten-free dishes, and everything tasted excellent. Big compliments to the potato house! We'll be back.

Very nice restaurant, both the wine and the food taste very good. The gratin with lamb ragout is highly recommended! Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.

We got take out bc we were tired, but I'd definitely recommend the Dunkel Waldhaus Bier. The food was great too, but that Bier just did it for me. Idk. Rad place though.

Unfortunately, really nothing special and without sophistication. There are simple potato dishes that lack something special. Unfortunately not suitable for vegans, as the selection of vegan dishes does not correspond to the price. No recommendation!

The food was ok but nothing special, I was hoping for more. The hash browns were a bit dry. We had to wait over an hour for our food. The team seemed undermanned. You also had to wait a long time for your drinks. All in all okay but not particularly recommended.

Best food I've eaten in years (except from my parents). If there was a way in heaven to eat something, that would be my choice. The food is different good 😍😍😍 Ate everything except the last lemon!!! Excellent dishes for a reasonable price for a restaurant of this standard (17-20€ for a dish). Be careful, there is a charge for water and the price is not given (€7.60 for water without asking for more).

You definitely have to reserve a table! Without a reservation you have almost no chance. The seating inside is a bit cramped. It's nice to sit outside. The food is very tasty. There is an extra gluten-free menu. The service team is very nice and always tries to ensure you have a great stay. The outside area is beautifully designed. We even got a candle for dessert on our wedding day. We found that very thoughtful. We'll definitely be back.

We book in advance and they tell us that the table outside won't be free before 9pm. We arrive at 8.30pm and they let us sit inside. A significant sultry heat that they also feel. 4 tables are freed up but there is no human strength to move outside. We ate quickly just to leave. Nothing, they are programmed without any exceptions. Very normal food and nothing special. P.S. There are always 4 free tables outside

Recommend the chanterelles à la créme with potato and wild herb rosti! Very tasty. Unfortunately a little expensive, but I'm rich anyway. That's why it fits. We'll be happy to come back.

Super tasty. There is a separate menu for vegan or gluten-free food. The waitresses were very friendly. There was a mistake when ordering the food, so a star deduction for the service (although of course a mistake can happen at any time). A reservation is recommended. The only downer: the fries are not gluten-free.

The food was excellent and the meal size was very good. The ambience was nice and there was no loud music playing, which was nice. Also the drink options were very good. Sadly the service was overwhelmed. 3.8/5, will visit again.

We had a spontaneous dinner with two children in the evening. The service was great, the atmosphere is very nice and the food does what it promises.

Very nice shop, the service is top notch. Nice waitresses who pay a lot of attention to you. Speak to someone in complete sentences. And the food tastes simply fantastic. Portions could be a bit larger. But with my 2m height, I am a different standard. The sprinkler system is just great, we had 28° so we had to wait for the next interval. I'd love to come back.

We visited Potato House for a birthday party and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The evening started with a long wait - we had to wait at least an hour before our food finally arrived. I personally ordered the Summer Bowl and a mountain of fries. However, the fries were of very poor quality. When I paid I complained about it and the waitress told me that the fries were not homemade but purchased. It's unbelievable that a restaurant that calls itself "Kartoffelhaus" doesn't even make its own potatoes. The waitress's justification was that due to the high volume there was no time for her own preparation. But that's exactly what I expect from a potato house. The fries were terrible, at least buy good quality. In addition, after an hour we were informed that we had to leave in the next 15 minutes because the next guests were already arriving. How are we supposed to enjoy our meal and order dessert in just 30 minutes if the food only comes after an hour of waiting? Overall the service was pointless and the quality of the fries was poor. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant at all. My answer: Good day, Thank you for your reply. I want to make it clear that the feedback I have provided reflects the collective sentiment of our group and is not just my personal opinion. As far as the quality of the fries is concerned, I find it problematic that it was only after I complained that I was informed that they were not homemade. Such information should be clearly and transparently declared in the menu up front so that guests can adjust their expectations accordingly. Unfortunately, the fact that this is only mentioned later shows a lack of proactive communication, which I find negative. Additionally, I find it disappointing that your response did not address my criticism of the time pressure we were under. After waiting an hour for our food, we were informed that we would have to vacate the table after 15 minutes. This shows poor service and severely detracted from our entire experience. It would be desirable if critical feedback was not only acknowledged but also fully addressed. This would not only help improve service but also show that you take your guests' opinions seriously. Nice place, friendly staff, good food, normal price for a tourist place. We had an inconvenience, a hair on the dish, it shouldn't happen but I understand that the error can occur when working, the problem was immediately resolved by the staff with relative apologies, congratulations. For this reason I give a 5 for how the problem was addressed.

As potato lovers, we got our money's worth. The seasoning was subtle; salt, pepper and the house spices are available at the table to spice things up individually. Everything was beautifully presented, matching, attractive dishes, reservation went smoothly. Dedicated, courteous, very friendly service with soul. The central water atomizer saved the heat outdoors; wasps probably won't be happy here.

Amazing food. Perfectly marked gluten-free food. They also have gluten free beer. It was hot but it was August and within normal limits. There is a terrace but you have to reserve it in advance. Good service, but when it was full, it got a little worse but totally advisable for both celiacs and non-celiacs.

We (older, partly handicapped) as a couple took our adult son out for a longer evening to say goodbye: an extremely accommodating, helpful reception, very friendly service, good food and drink and a completely justified price-performance ratio made our farewell (a little) easier . Very happy again!

The most lovely place. We went for my partners birthday meal and all the food was DELICIOUS, everybody was very KIND, and they brought us a SPECIAL cake at the end of the meal as a surprise. Would 100% recommend and hope I can go back one day.

Wonderful. They brought us a gluten-free menu and we could eat without any problem. Gluten-free dishes are brought to you with a little flag to avoid mistakes. The atmosphere is very calm and the terrace is very cozy.

We called to reserve and they told us that there is no space until a specific time so we have to make time. We decided to stop by a little earlier because we were hungry and everything was empty... The food was good, the premium sausage was spicy and had a weird texture but overall the potatoes were very good. Water has an abusive price, 7 euros for a 1L bottle.

Ufff, if you could give 0 stars that would be more accurate. We had reserved weeks in advance for 6 p.m. The lady on the phone said the table was free until 8 p.m. We come to the restaurant on the date in question, the food was delicious. At 7:51 p.m. the waitress came and said we had to vacate the table by 8 p.m. We sat there with our glasses half full and were really surprised. Apparently we were explicitly told when we came in that we only had until 8 p.m. No, it wasn't and there were two of us. If you mention something like that on the phone, you have to assume that it will be forgotten. All in all, it wasn't an issue, but how it was implemented didn't work at all. Feel free to let the next guests know something like this a little earlier and not 9 minutes to 8! Furthermore, some of the staff were upset with us because we sat at the table until 8 p.m. That was really disappointing and so unprofessional. I definitely won't come back a second time and won't say anything good about this restaurant or recommend it to others. Service is not a priority here.

I've been here twice and I'm always impressed. The food is very tasty and the atmosphere is good inside and outside. I can highly recommend the seasonal dishes, as well as the various potato dishes and the dessert menu. I'm already looking forward to the next time!

We chose the potato house because it also has a vegan and gluten-free menu. If you want to eat there on the weekend, you should definitely make a reservation. There are parking spaces opposite the restaurant. There was a small line at the entrance, but it still went quickly until we were at our seat. I really liked the furnishings, the only thing I was missing was the seat cushions on the chairs. The staff was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The food (1 x vegan, 1 x gluten-free) was good, but not WOW. You can go there again, but nothing where we said “we definitely have to go there again”. That's why we can't really understand the popularity of this place. However, the concept with additional menus (vegan, gluten-free or lactose-free) is a great offer that is generally offered far too little. This is really good. Since the restaurant is very well booked, there is a huge noise level here. It was really good weather outside that day, but the air in the restaurant was stagnant.
