Great food, gluten-free options

We book in advance and they tell us that the table outside won't be free before 9pm. We arrive at 8.30pm and they let us sit inside. A significant sultry heat that they also feel. 4 tables are freed up but there is no human strength to move outside. We ate quickly just to leave. Nothing, they are programmed without any exceptions. Very normal food and nothing special. P.S. There are always 4 free tables outside

Super tasty. There is a separate menu for vegan or gluten-free food. The waitresses were very friendly. There was a mistake when ordering the food, so a star deduction for the service (although of course a mistake can happen at any time). A reservation is recommended. The only downer: the fries are not gluten-free.

Very nice shop, the service is top notch. Nice waitresses who pay a lot of attention to you. Speak to someone in complete sentences. And the food tastes simply fantastic. Portions could be a bit larger. But with my 2m height, I am a different standard. The sprinkler system is just great, we had 28° so we had to wait for the next interval. I'd love to come back.

We had a spontaneous dinner with two children in the evening. The service was great, the atmosphere is very nice and the food does what it promises.

The food was excellent and the meal size was very good. The ambience was nice and there was no loud music playing, which was nice. Also the drink options were very good. Sadly the service was overwhelmed. 3.8/5, will visit again.

We visited Potato House for a birthday party and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The evening started with a long wait - we had to wait at least an hour before our food finally arrived. I personally ordered the Summer Bowl and a mountain of fries. However, the fries were of very poor quality. When I paid I complained about it and the waitress told me that the fries were not homemade but purchased. It's unbelievable that a restaurant that calls itself "Kartoffelhaus" doesn't even make its own potatoes. The waitress's justification was that due to the high volume there was no time for her own preparation. But that's exactly what I expect from a potato house. The fries were terrible, at least buy good quality. In addition, after an hour we were informed that we had to leave in the next 15 minutes because the next guests were already arriving. How are we supposed to enjoy our meal and order dessert in just 30 minutes if the food only comes after an hour of waiting? Overall the service was pointless and the quality of the fries was poor. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant at all. My answer: Good day, Thank you for your reply. I want to make it clear that the feedback I have provided reflects the collective sentiment of our group and is not just my personal opinion. As far as the quality of the fries is concerned, I find it problematic that it was only after I complained that I was informed that they were not homemade. Such information should be clearly and transparently declared in the menu up front so that guests can adjust their expectations accordingly. Unfortunately, the fact that this is only mentioned later shows a lack of proactive communication, which I find negative. Additionally, I find it disappointing that your response did not address my criticism of the time pressure we were under. After waiting an hour for our food, we were informed that we would have to vacate the table after 15 minutes. This shows poor service and severely detracted from our entire experience. It would be desirable if critical feedback was not only acknowledged but also fully addressed. This would not only help improve service but also show that you take your guests' opinions seriously. Nice place, friendly staff, good food, normal price for a tourist place. We had an inconvenience, a hair on the dish, it shouldn't happen but I understand that the error can occur when working, the problem was immediately resolved by the staff with relative apologies, congratulations. For this reason I give a 5 for how the problem was addressed.

As potato lovers, we got our money's worth. The seasoning was subtle; salt, pepper and the house spices are available at the table to spice things up individually. Everything was beautifully presented, matching, attractive dishes, reservation went smoothly. Dedicated, courteous, very friendly service with soul. The central water atomizer saved the heat outdoors; wasps probably won't be happy here.

Amazing food. Perfectly marked gluten-free food. They also have gluten free beer. It was hot but it was August and within normal limits. There is a terrace but you have to reserve it in advance. Good service, but when it was full, it got a little worse but totally advisable for both celiacs and non-celiacs.

We (older, partly handicapped) as a couple took our adult son out for a longer evening to say goodbye: an extremely accommodating, helpful reception, very friendly service, good food and drink and a completely justified price-performance ratio made our farewell (a little) easier . The most lovely place. We went for my partners birthday meal and all the food was DELICIOUS, everybody was very KIND, and they brought us a SPECIAL cake at the end of the meal as a surprise. Would 100% recommend and hope I can go back one day.

Wonderful. They brought us a gluten-free menu and we could eat without any problem. Gluten-free dishes are brought to you with a little flag to avoid mistakes. The atmosphere is very calm and the terrace is very cozy.

We called to reserve and they told us that there is no space until a specific time so we have to make time. We decided to stop by a little earlier because we were hungry and everything was empty... The food was good, the premium sausage was spicy and had a weird texture but overall the potatoes were very good. Water has an abusive price, 7 euros for a 1L bottle.

Ufff, if you could give 0 stars that would be more accurate. We had reserved weeks in advance for 6 p.m. The lady on the phone said the table was free until 8 p.m. We come to the restaurant on the date in question, the food was delicious. At 7:51 p.m. the waitress came and said we had to vacate the table by 8 p.m. We sat there with our glasses half full and were really surprised. Apparently we were explicitly told when we came in that we only had until 8 p.m. No, it wasn't and there were two of us. If you mention something like that on the phone, you have to assume that it will be forgotten. All in all, it wasn't an issue, but how it was implemented didn't work at all. Feel free to let the next guests know something like this a little earlier and not 9 minutes to 8! Furthermore, some of the staff were upset with us because we sat at the table until 8 p.m. That was really disappointing and so unprofessional. I definitely won't come back a second time and won't say anything good about this restaurant or recommend it to others. Service is not a priority here.

I've been here twice and I'm always impressed. The food is very tasty and the atmosphere is good inside and outside. I can highly recommend the seasonal dishes, as well as the various potato dishes and the dessert menu. I'm already looking forward to the next time!

We chose the potato house because it also has a vegan and gluten-free menu. If you want to eat there on the weekend, you should definitely make a reservation. There are parking spaces opposite the restaurant. There was a small line at the entrance, but it still went quickly until we were at our seat. I really liked the furnishings, the only thing I was missing was the seat cushions on the chairs. The staff was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The food (1 x vegan, 1 x gluten-free) was good, but not WOW. You can go there again, but nothing where we said “we definitely have to go there again”. That's why we can't really understand the popularity of this place. However, the concept with additional menus (vegan, gluten-free or lactose-free) is a great offer that is generally offered far too little. This is really good. Since the restaurant is very well booked, there is a huge noise level here. It was really good weather outside that day, but the air in the restaurant was stagnant. I really like the fried potatoes with bacon, onions and quark. 👍🏻 The outdoor area has already been laid out and to cool off on hot days, a shallow spray of water comes from pipes on the wall every few minutes.

If you are looking for a place to go out with your loved ones in Freiburg, you have come to the right place. Super friendly service, a nice atmosphere both inside and outside and delicious food. Whether vegan, rustic or gluten-free, there is something for everyone! I had the sausage salad and the shrimp. Both highly recommended! Card payment possible. There are plenty of parking spaces opposite the restaurant. Thank you for the lovely evening! PS: Be sure to test/use the homemade potato seasoning. Makes every dish just that little bit better!

On Monday, July 15th, 2024, we were on the way through and back and then spontaneously had dinner at “das potato house”. The waiter was young, friendly and gave us good and honest recommendations. From the starter to the dessert, everything was great. For the main course we had the gourmet bratwurst and schnitzel Viennese style, a good portion to fill you up, before that there was a small salad. For dessert we chose the strawberry tiramisu and coconut crème brûlée with strawberries, also a generous portion. As a drink we had a cloudy Pilsner “without filter” and a Hugo Black Forest. I can only recommend it, I didn't have to reserve in advance, it could of course be different on the weekend.

Very high prices, average food.

I like going to the potato house, for health reasons I can't eat some foods and going to restaurants is difficult. None of this is a problem, the kitchen and staff are well prepared and any questions or changes to orders are handled very well. The food is simple and good. The price is a little higher, but I'm happy to pay that, especially on special occasions, if I can enjoy a good restaurant experience that would otherwise be difficult for me.

Well, the 4.5 star rating is not entirely understandable. The food wasn't really a hit, maybe 3 out of 5 stars (salmon dry, potatoes totally mush). The place is called Potato House, but the gratin wasn't even prepared as a gratin... Prices are utopia for the performance, well, that's debatable... I wouldn't recommend the place to my friends, sorry, there's a little passion for the matter, The map also needs revision. But service gets 4/5 stars!!!

Kartoffelhaus is a great place to eat, especially for vegans and vegetarians. Everything is just right; friendly staff, nice atmosphere and the menu is available in English. Better yet, you can ask for normal, vegan and glutenfree menus in both German and English! It is perhaps not the cheapest restaurant, but one of the better ones to visit. We had the rösti and potato gratin which were both delicious.

For the fairly high price, the food is really nothing special. Poorly seasoned, the eggplant was rubbery, and the fried potatoes lacked oil/fat. However, service was top and the restaurant also impresses when it comes to sustainability. But it doesn't do much on its own.

Disappointing… we ate here for the first time last night. The service was very good, there are two stars for that. But the food was more than disappointing. I had the vegetable variation from the vegan menu for 18.90 euros (!). I was very hungry and thought I would get a large portion for the price. Unfortunately, a small bowl came with some vegetables (zucchini and carrots), sweet potato wedges and green salad (2 leaves) that was not dressed. For the first time in my life, I had to add seasoning to food in a restaurant because it was completely bland. I won't come back.

Based on personal recommendations, we visited the potato house in the evening. The positive: friendly service and an appealing, varied menu with many vegetarian dishes. The organic bratwursts were good, but that was it! The potato gratin was more like potatoes with a bit of cream sauce, the fried potatoes were pale, as was the chive sauce from the asparagus-filled gratinated casserole. I wouldn't call the thick, tasteless starch sauce with a bit of chives a chive sauce. Overall, we expected more quality from a POTATO house, especially when preparing potatoes. A pity!

Brilliant place. Not only has a dedicated and extensive gluten free menu but also the food is top quality. Very reassuring to see little 'gluten free' flags on the food when it arrived. I was in Freiburg for 2 nights and dined here on the first night. Suffice to say because of good it was I booked to come the second evening - why experiment when on to a good thing. Can highly recommend to all us Celiacs 😁

Friendliness is certainly different, but the food was OK. Small portions! @Kartoffelhaus We waited in the entrance area for a long time after entering the restaurant. We were also seen by several employees almost running over us or talking to the kitchen staff at the serving hatch. So, because I found the situation unpleasant for us, I politely asked the bartender if we could find a table ourselves. I was told very harshly and unkindly that I shouldn't do that. At some point someone will come and assign us a place. A friendly someone will come and assign you a seat. Would have been the correct behavior. Especially since the man saw that we had been waiting for a long time.

Schnitzel and potato salad were nice. However there were too many mosquitoes and we couldn't sit comfortably.

We chose this restaurant because of the positive recession and can only find praiseworthy words. Everything was very accommodating, which speaks for the good management of the restaurant. From the service staff to the kitchen, no questions or wishes were left unanswered. The food has star character and the taste lets you feel the freshness of the food with a fine balance of spices. We ate at the potato house twice. Once outside and once inside. Both are recommended. The staff is very nice. Food was very tasty. We particularly liked the strawberry tiramisu. When we are in Freiburg again, we would like to come back.

You definitely have to reserve a table! Without a reservation you have almost no chance. The seating inside is a bit cramped. It's nice to sit outside. The food is delicious. There is an extra gluten-free menu. The service team is very nice and always tries to ensure you have a great stay. The outside area has already been designed. We even got a candle for dessert on our wedding day. We found that very thoughtful. We will be back definitely.

There were three of us and we all ordered the potato casserole with "spicy" minced lamb. The casserole didn't taste like anything, it wasn't seasoned at all. The tomato sauce was tasty when it was put on it straight from the bottle 5 seconds before we got the food. The cheese sauce was disgusting, didn't taste like cheese at all and had a very artificial yellow color. It was so disgusting and tasteless that we didn't finish it. The waitress was nice but wasn't sure how big the portion was or if it was really spicy when we asked. I don't recommend this restaurant at all.

Thanks to a chance find on Google, we were lucky enough to go to the potato house last Thursday. The very nice service employee was even able to offer us a place in the potato garden. It's really great how the symbiosis between conventional and vegan/vegetarian cuisine has been found here. Great selection of innovative dishes. Great, informative menu. I think the concept with regional providers is outstanding. The fresh chili sin carne was super tasty, as was the dish with the cheese in an eggplant coating. The super friendly service completes the very good impression. If Freiburg, then potato house. I can only recommend this to everyone. Price performance is very good for the reasons mentioned. I already advertised for you when I visited the Schwarzwaldradio studio.

Well-attended restaurant with a varied menu. The focus is on vegetarian dishes, but there is also meat. The staff is super friendly. The selection of bottled wines is high quality. There are predominantly V.D.P. wines from the region. The topic of regionality is very important overall. And it tasted good, so I highly recommend it.

We've been there several times in the last few years, but every attempt unfortunately always ended in the same conclusion: not what it promised. As vegans, we think the concept of different menus is great, but the dishes are not very varied. Unfortunately, our starter was very disappointing, only mushy sweet potato pieces from the oven seasoned with pepper and salt and sprinkled with sesame seeds and a dip, not up to the standard set by the prices and the concept. Unfortunately, when we thought of “sweet potato thalers” we imagined something other than oven-baked vegetables. The main course - asparagus with hollandaise sauce - was unfortunately no better, the sauce tasted so strong and bitter of turmeric that it was not edible, it was bright neon yellow. The sauce was still cold in the middle and had a more pudding-like consistency, we suspect it was warmed in the microwave. The asparagus was of good quality, but I wouldn't have expected potatoes that you have to peel yourself at the table in a restaurant. Only the side salad was good, it was really tasty and fresh. The ambience is okay, the tables are very close to each other and it's not good for a date because you can hear the conversations of the other tables very closely. (Other guests didn't like it either, we noticed). The service is nice but not attentive, we ordered an aperitif, then the starter came straight away and then the main course straight after, we weren't asked if we would like to drink anything else or if we liked it, the waiter was also hard to catch. A plus point is that we were not charged for part of the meal after we complained about the sauce. Conclusion: Great concept in theory, unfortunately not convincing in implementation, the vegan dishes are rather boring/not so tasty and the service and ambience are just okay. The price is rather high. A pity :(

We booked a table a week in advance. We ordered pancakes, mashed soup, potato casserole and fried potatoes. We waited for the order for more than an hour!! The portions are large, but the food... Ordinary. There wasn't enough meat (at least some bacon) to go with the fried potatoes and casserole.

Have been there several times, the food and ambience are great. Definitely always an experience, as the seasonal regional cuisine always brings variety and is always at a high level. The only thing that slightly spoiled our evening on our last visit was the fact that, despite making a reservation, we were informed after less than an hour that we had to leave within the next 5 minutes. The food had just been cleared away, we both still had drinks and were also thinking about ordering dessert. Neither in advance nor upon arrival at the restaurant were we told that we only had so little time. Then had to rush down our drinks and had a disappointing experience.
