This was my first time here tonight, and it's a great place. The atmosphere is old-school, and the service is very attentive but unobtrusive. The clientele ranges from sophisticated to relaxed, a nice cross-section of society. The food is also excellent. I hope this place stays around for a long time.

Authentic Swabian restaurant. Friendly owner – I just managed to snag the last free table ;-). I had Käsespätzle – absolutely delicious! The dessert was fantastic too!

A really lovely place with only five tables. We got a seat at the bar. The dressing on the side salad was amazing. The kitchen closed quite early for a Friday; they were already turning guests away at 9 pm. The owner was very friendly, and the roast beef with onions was fantastic.

I was truly pleasantly surprised – this was by far the best steak with pepper sauce I've ever eaten! The meat was perfectly cooked, incredibly tender and juicy, and the sauce had just the right amount of heat and spice. You can tell the food is cooked with quality and passion. The service was also absolutely top-notch: The staff was friendly, attentive, yet pleasantly unobtrusive. We felt very comfortable from start to finish. The ambience in the restaurant is cozy and stylish at the same time – you can enjoy your meal in peace and have a wonderful conversation. When I'm back in Freiburg, I'll definitely come back – this restaurant is already one of the city's culinary highlights for me. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates good food and attentive service. A little tip: It's best to reserve a table in advance, especially on weekends – it's definitely worth it!

I went to the Schwabentörle with my sister for lunch. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and we felt very comfortable. The food was excellent, and the portions were generous. We received friendly service, and we didn't miss anything. They even served us a salad, which is unfortunately not common in restaurants these days. When we're back in Freiburg, we'll definitely go back to the Schwabentörle!

A great restaurant in the heart of Freiburg. Everything was perfect on our visit. We had a nice seat outside in the shade. The waiters were extremely friendly and attentive; others could learn a thing or two from this place. The food, the loin and the roast beef with onions, were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Simply fantastic. The price is absolutely justified for the quality.

The schnitzel was excellent. The beef liver was also cooked perfectly and was quite fresh. We ordered steak for our children, and it was brought to us just as we requested. The taste was fine. You can easily go and eat something in this area. The service is also excellent. The staff is friendly.

Reasonable food, meager portions. Salad was a small saucer, cup of tea, no biscuits. Soup was also a very small bowl.

We both had the schnitzel - delicious! Lovely service, reasonable prices and the perfect place for people watching on the street.

We were in Freiburg as a group at the beginning of May and wanted to try traditional regional dishes. This was exactly the right place. There was a good selection of typical dishes. The staff were very friendly, and the food came very quickly. The restaurant is very busy (a very good sign!), so reservations are required. Go! I'll go there again next time I'm in Freiburg!

My dear niece, Clea, recommended this wonderful restaurant to us. What did I eat? A roast beef with onions, and I must say, it was fantastic! The meat was tender. The homemade spaetzle rounded off the taste experience, and the service was very impressive. I've already been to Tim Raue, which has two stars, and the value for money here is better. By the way, to my left, the incredibly handsome Greek Christos, is also very impressed with the food, even though he's a vegetarian.

Das urige Lokal findet man in der Altstadt von Freiburg. Es gibt Innen- und Aussenplätze. Die Speisekarte ist nicht allzu groß, die Preise liegen eher im oberen Bereich des Mittelfeldes - wie aber fast überall in Freiburg. Bedient wurden wir schnell und freundlich. Unsere Essen (2 mal Leber geröstet und ein Salatteller) waren gut und ausreichend. Mit Getränken zahlten wir zu dritt 75,00 €. Es könnte durchaus sein, dass es um die Mittagszeit schwer wird, einen Platz - vor allen Dingen im Aussenbereich - zu finden.

It wasn't my first time there. The food portions now resemble an appetizer more than a main course. My comment when the waiter asked about it was met with no reaction or any kind of statement. It's good, though, that at least the prices are constantly rising. Honestly, not like that.

Great location. Very friendly staff, the waitresses were fantastic even though they were so busy! (They are a credit to your restaurant.) I genuinely never saw them stand still. Food was fantastic, big portions for a very fair price. This restaurant is very popular. Book in advance. I was lucky to get a seat at the bar (hence the lighting in the photos). Sind zufällig in der Altstadt hier vorbei gekommen, ein Tisch mit klapprigen Stühlen direkt am fließenden Bächlein wurde frei, wir haben spontan Platz genommen und wurden nicht enttäuscht . Freundliche Bedienung , gutes Essen und preiswerten Faßwein, alles stimmte . Wir waren zufrieden und können das Restaurant sehr empfehlen .

Yesterday the four of us went to Schwabentörle for the first time and were totally thrilled. Nice little pub with absolutely delicious food at very fair prices. The service was also super nice and friendly. Always happy😍

Short Food good Service overwhelmed but friendly and accommodating Ambience also very nice Prices high But what's not possible is that they'll gladly charge you 30 euros for a roast roast, but when it's time for desert it's 10 to 9 and the kitchen is closed. On a Saturday. 5 guests at the table left empty-handed while at the neighboring table, guests who came later were still served with the great looking dessert. So unfortunately only three stars and no goodbye either. What a shame!

I visited the Schwabentörle and was thrilled. The price-performance ratio is unbeatable. I had the Berlin-style beef liver with salad and was absolutely convinced by the quality and taste. The liver was buttery tender and the combination with the apples and onions was simply perfect. The salad was also very tasty. The service was also excellent – ​​very friendly, attentive and quick. I can only warmly recommend Schwabentörle if you want to enjoy home-style cuisine at fair prices and with great service!

It's nice here!!! Few tables, insider tip. Only possible with reservation. But people toast each other at the bar. Regular guests with us tourists. Ganter Weisse and Pils on tap correctly chilled and tapped. I'm a little jealous of the lady opposite with the snail sauce. So stupid... the only thing that fits in my stomach right now is absolutely liquid...

In realtà avrei voluto poter esprimere una valutazione complessiva su un locale presso il quale avevo prenotato con LARGHISSIMO ANTICIPO (tramite il loro sito web) un tavolo per due persone (io e mia figlia) per la sera del 31 dicembre, SE SOLO FOSSI RIUSCITO AD ENTRARCI. Mi confermano il 16/11 la prenotazione in risposta alla mia richiesta, ben un mese e mezzo prima. Tutto ok, arrivo il 28/12 a Friburgo, faccio i miei itinerari... poi il 31 dicembre alle ore 16,06 vengo chiamato dal locale ed informato che la mia prenotazione... PUFF! ...è stata cancellata. Alla mia richiesta di spiegazioni mi viene risposto che "era una prenotazione online"... come se io dall'Italia potessi andare fino a Friburgo per fare una prenotazione di persona in un locale. Visto che avevano i miei recapiti, potevano tranquillamente chiamarmi per sincerarsi della mia conferma, ed invece (evidentemente per dare il tavolo a qualche amico (magari autoctono?) hanno preferito fare così. Ovviamente serata completamente rovinata, abbiamo dovuto trovare di straforo un locale fuori Friburgo e senz'altro meno caratteristico e di atmosfera, il danno era già fatto. Irritante la strafottenza con cui si sono posti al telefono, nessun rispetto nè cortesia. Una sola parola: VERGOGNATEVI! E fate un altro mestiere, che è meglio.

Where would you rather stop off after a long winter day than in the restaurant at Schwabentörle, lovingly heated by an oven! We had a wonderful evening here with delicious food and great conversations! The service was great, their names were both Vivi and Katja. Wenn wir in Freiburg sind, kehren wir gerne hier ein. Die badische Küche lockt uns immer wieder. Diesmal haben wir Sauerbraten mit Rotkohl bestellt. Es war sehr lecker. Es schmeckte wie bei Muttern. Vielen Dank .

Proprio in centro, abbiamo trovato questo locale, dopo un giro infruttuoso in zona. L'arredo è rustico, i posti non moltissimi, i bagni semplici. Segnalo la bontà notevole degli spätzle. Ma anche l'altrettanto notevole antipatia della signora più magra, la quale, quando ho riferito che mi era stata portata una birra grande invece di una piccola per mia moglie, ha detto, insofferente, che tutto sommato cambiava poco. E non ce l'ha cambiata. Alla mia battuta, per cui allora avrei pagato il prezzo della piccola, mi ha praticamente mandato a quel paese, borbottando poi con l'altra. Inutile dire che al momento di saldare mi sono trovato davanti il costo della birra grande. Così non ho dato alcuna mancia. Mi chiedo perché certuni facciano i ristoratori sapendo unicamente cucinare, e non trattare onestamente con gli avventori: in questo caso, era un misto di sicumera, arroganza e pressapochismo di quel genere che prima o poi ti fa perdere i clienti.

The food was excellent, as was the service and the restaurant. However, the portion is very small and you expect to order several courses. We paid 11 euros for 1 dl of wine, so the price-performance ratio was a little unreasonable for us.

I don't understand the good reviews about the food at all. There was packet soup and fried food with no taste.

So today we visited the beautiful town of Freiburg. Luckily we were able to get a table at Schwabentörle at short notice. It is advisable to reserve in advance because there is a high rush due to the offer. We loved the food, service, drinks and ambience. We would be happy to come back when we visit Freiburg again! Our recommendation is for everyone who visits Freiburg.

… was soll ich schreiben? Mitten in der historischen Altstadt von Freiburg im Breisgau ist das deutsche Haus in einer malerischen Gasse gelegen. Von außen sieht es nett aus, innen ist es, dem Gebäude entsprechend, klein und urig. Die Einrichtung ist zweckmäßig, überflüssigen Luxus sucht man vergebens. Die Wände sind mit Bildern aus vergangenen Zeiten geschmückt, was durchaus seinen eigenen Charme besitzt. Die Speisekarte ist übersichtlich, es werden regionale Gerichte angeboten, dazu lokale Weine und Biere, Kaffee und die üblichen Limonaden runden die Getränkeabteilung ab. Wir kamen etwas spät, der Laden brummte, durch die vielen, heiteren Gäste war der Geräuschpegel entsprechend, trotzdem konnte man sich gut unterhalten. Die Bedienungen waren flott und freundlich unterwegs. Wir bestellten ein Kalbschnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln, einen Sprudel, den schwäbischen Klassiker Linsen mit Spätzle und einem Päärle Saiten (ein Paar Frankfurter/Wiener oder wie auch immer die Würstchen in anderen Gegenden genannt werden), dazu ein Viertel fruchtigen Weißwein für meine Begleiterin. Die Getränke kamen kurz nach der Bestellung. Mein Wasser war schön kalt, Kohlensäure war auch drin, geschmacklich kein Bringer, aber es konnte meinen Durst löschen. Der Wein wurde von meiner Begleitung als Flach empfunden, ein bisschen zuviel Säure, insgesamt etwas langweilig. Das Essen ließ nicht lange auf sich warten: ziemlich heiß, ziemlich matschig, irgendwie nicht so mein Fall. Das Schnitzel war auf den Brägele (so werden Bratkartoffeln in Freiburg genannt) drapiert, die Panade sah etwas blass aus, zwei kräftige Zitronenscheiben obenauf, am Rand ein kleines Schälchen mit Preiselbeeren. Der Teller mit den Spätzle, daneben den Linsen und auf den Linsen die prallen Saiten, sah gut aus, das ist es leider schon gewesen. Das Schnitzel war lieblos, vermutlich in der Friteuse zu kurz gebadet, die Kartoffeln zu fettig und auch nicht richtig scharf genug angebraten, Salz und Pfeffer hatten Urlaub. Die Spätzle gleichfalls wässrig-lasch, bei den Linsen fehlte der Essig, einzig die Saiten waren gut. Um es kurz zu machen: Wir wurden satt, geschmeckt hat es allerdings nicht. Kantinenniveau durch Convenience der üblichen Großhändler. Das deutsche Haus ist in meinen Augen eher eine bessere Kneipe mit halbwegs brauchbarer Hausmannskost, wenn man eine Grundlage für einen Kneipenabend möchte. Dafür sitzt es sich in lustiger Runde bestimmt gut, wenn man als Touristengruppe einfällt. Das freut den Wirt und bringt Stimmung. Wer etwas Gutes aus der Region möchte, der suche bitte woanders. Es ist leider kein gutes Restaurant, den Begriff Touristenfalle möchte ich nicht nennen, da es das nun auch wieder nicht ist. Allerdings trifft es vermutlich auch auf die anderen Restaurants und Gaststätten in der Freiburger Innenstadt zu, da dies einfach eine Touristenhochburg ist mit allen üblichen Begleiterscheinungen.

Freiburg, den 24.08.2024 So etwas habe ich in den vielen Jahren, die wir hier schon waren, nicht erlebt. So viel geballte Unfreundlickeit! Bei allem Verständnis, wenn es voll wird, heiss ist und man als Bedienung allein vor Ort. Aber mit einem "Ich hab nur 2 Hände und 2 Füsse" wenn man auf sich aufmerksam macht, oder ein unfreundliches "Ja gleich, sie sehen doch was los ist", so bedient man nicht in eine Haus Ihres Rufes! Und als wir begründeten, warum wir jetzt gehen und nichts mehr bestellen wollten, ein "ja, ist ja gut", statt eine kleine freundliche Entschuldigung? Nein, so schnell kommen wir nicht wieder! Schade für ein Haus. Hier macht die Bedienung alles kaputt. Wenn wir die einzigen gewesen wären, die so "angemotzt" wurden, ok, kann passieren. Aber bedauerlicherweise wurden wir - als Einheimische - gefragt, wo man denn besser hinginge. Und glauben Sie mir - uns fielen andere Lokalitäten im Umfeld ein!

HAS THE STUFF TO BE A FAVORITE The imposing Freiburg Schwabentor, built around 1250 (one of Freiburg's two surviving city gates), is the namesake of the rustic Freiburg restaurant “zum Schabentörle”. The “Schwabentörle”, located a few meters from the Schwabentor, at the beginning of the pedestrian zone, appears quite inconspicuous from the outside - this despite the friendly green paintwork of the old building, which was first mentioned around 1448. Immediately after entering the rustic and very cozy Baden restaurant, you are captured by a variety of extremely lively babble of voices, many exciting dishes and their scents as well as the warm ambience of the restaurant. In front of most of the guests at the rustic wooden tables there are various culinary dishes that are quite appealing and gradually disappear from the plates or wooden boards. The Schwabentörle kitchen seems to place great value on fresh ingredients and manages to create a small, manageable menu with exciting dishes. The chosen names of the dishes often only become clear when the chosen dish is in front of you. Do you spontaneously know what is meant by “Brägele”, “the pious cow” or the “Swabian friend”, a “Bächleputzer” or “the sharp Berthold”? Just do it like the group of 13 who celebrated the birthday of a loved one by indulging in culinary delights in the “Séparée” on the first floor of the restaurant. Everyone ordered something different and was surprised - worth it! A spacious and well-equipped bar in the back third of the dining room is surrounded on three sides by spacious counters - during our visit there were one glass of beer on top of the other - and every now and then a glass of wine was also spotted. My personal conclusion: Be sure to take some time and space in your stomach and check the accuracy of my description - maybe we'll get to know each other in the process - I'll certainly try out new things again soon as a guest of the Schwabentörles 

Family dinner. Excellent welcome. It is not a tourist place even though it is located in a very busy area. Family run place. Very kind and friendly. Really good dishes that denote the excellent raw materials used. Reservation required, the place is really small. Beef Liver and Apple Fritters are two superlative dishes.

We had a delicious meal in beautiful weather and a view of the Schwabentor. The service is very attentive. The good home-style cuisine harmonizes perfectly with a delicious Ganter beer.

Traditional german food is served in this place, which is very delicious. We ordered wurstsalad (very refreshing), schnitzel and beef with spätzle. We'd love to come back again and try the rest of the menu. Also had nice views of the clock tower. And kudos to the waitresses, they were super kind to us.

Wir sind in dieses Gasthaus, weil es von außen etwas 'old school' wirkt und schon allein der Name eine gewisse Einladung und Assoziation in uns weckte. Es ist rustikalgemütlich eingerichtet, das wäre soweit o.k. Ich fand auf der Speiekarte - die Preise darin sind auch für diese zentrale und exponierte Lage des Gasthauses in der Nähe des Münsters - eindeutig zu hochpreisig, also zu teuer. Ich fand u.a. "Käsespatzen" auf der Karte. Nachdem ich die schwäbische und badische Küche kenne und weiß, dass das eine regionale Spezialität ist, bestellte ich Kässpatzen, dazu etwas Kartoffelsalat. Nachdem die Kässpatzen dann serviert wurden, war ich zuerst etwas ungläubig: Das waren Nudeln mit Sahnesosse ohne Käse und ohne Röstzwiebeln (stehen auf der Karte). Meine beiden Bekannten, die bei mir saßen und aus Stuttgart und Aalen sind (Schwaben), sagten mir ebenfalls: "Des sin alles bloss koine Kässpätzle"! Ich wollte keinen Ärger machen und habe diese schwäbischen Nudel Carbonara gegessen - ich hatte auch Hunger (und Draußen hatte geregnet). Nach der 3. Reklamation kam dann mein Kartoffelsalat - nachdem ich mit dem Essen schon fast fertig war. Der war auch nicht selbst gemacht sondern aus einer Grosshandelsbüchse - also gekauft (die Tür zur Küche war auf, ich hab's gesehen). So hat er dann auch geschmeckt (ich hab ihn nur probiert und dann stehen lassen). Zum Trinken hatte ich einen trockenen Riesling bestellt (die Lagebezeichnung weiß ich nicht mehr). Der Wein schmeckte abgestanden und war so flach wie mein Teller. Die Badischen Weine sind normal gut und ich mag sie, vor allem vom Kaiserstuhl. Ich kann mir von Wein ein Urteil erlauben. Ich trinke täglich ein Glas Wein und wohne seit 53 Jahren in der Pfalz in einer Winzergemeinde und weiß, wann ein Wein gut oder schlecht ist. Last but not least, ich merkte, als wir bezahlen wollten an, "dass das Essen die Bezeichnung "Kässpatzen" wohl nicht verdient hätte. Da kam ich aber bei der Bedienung nicht gut an. Lautstark erklärte sie mir! Dass ich überhaupt der 1. Gast wäre, der sich je darüber beschwert hätte (die Rezenionen sagen etwas anderes). Als ich dann zu ihr sagte, sie, als Bedienung mit Bezug zur Region müsste wohl wissen, wie "Kässpatzen" aussehen und wie sie gemacht würden, sagte sie schnippisch: "Glauben sie, wegen ihnen machen wir richtige Kässpatzen"! Ende des Zitats. Soviel zu den Kässpatzen und der Professionalität der Bedienung. Fazit: Die Lage dieses Gasthauses in der Gasse gegenüber des Münsters ist "1a" und von Touristen - mit großem ausländischen Anteil - überlaufen. Auf Stammgäste muss deshalb keine Rücksicht genommen werden. Man kann in dieser Location - überteuert aufgrund der Lage - um es etwas volkstümlich auszudrücken, z. B. gequirlte ........ anbieten, Sie verdienen trotzdem ihr Geld. Nicht gut ist, das solche Gastronomen den Ruf ihrer Branche - der sowieso nicht der allerbeste ist - ruinieren. Für die Freiburger Gastronomie - vor allem in der Meile um das Münster - mag das nicht relevant sein. Touristen goutieren alles! Ich, und viele andere halt nicht. Solche Wirte sind keine Werbung für die Gastronomie überhaupt. Der Trends in vielen Restaurants gehen nur in eine Richtung: Preise rauf, Qualität runter. Lebensmittel, die früher ein guter Koch selbst einkaufte und anrichtete, wird heute als Fertigware beim Grosshandel besorgt und als 'selbstmade' den Gästen angedreht. Die Gastronomie wundert sich, warum soviel aus ihrer Branche der Pleite entgegen sehen - mit Ausnahme derjenigen um den Freiburger Münsterplatz vielleicht. 🤔 Im übrigen, ich hatte Einblick in die Küche, als ich zur Toilette wollte und in die falsche Richtung lief (die Tür war offen). Ich möchte es mal so ausdrücken: Das Gewerbeaufsichtsamt hätte sicher ihre Freude daran!

There were four of us there. We really enjoyed the food and the ambience. We sat outside, it was very romantic. You have a view of the Schwabentor and the street. The wisteria beautifies the whole city.☺️ The service was very nice and we all enjoyed the food. This restaurant is absolutely recommended,👍👍👍

Cute little and very quaint. We sat at the counter because there are only five tables that are always reserved, but the ambience was still good. Mega tasty and definitely worth it😋🥩!!

The place was full, but we were able to sit at the bar and eat there. Service was very friendly, food, schnitzel and beef liver arrived quickly and were delicious, price certainly not too expensive compared to other restaurants. Only the latte macchiato was a bit weak, but very hot. Very satisfied, even if we were to come to Freiburg again, I would definitely try to eat here again.👍

Rustic restaurant with only 5 tables, very cozy and quick service, food was very good. What surprised us, however, was that we wanted to order a dessert directly after our main course and that it was no longer accepted at 8:57 p.m. on a Friday with the reason being that Kitchen would already be closed. The chef was enjoying a beer with his friends at a nearby table, which I was happy to treat him to, but I work in the hospitality industry myself and that really irritated me, it's a shame about the great food and the good atmosphere in the restaurant.

Das Essen meines Mannes (Bratwurst) war kalt, mein Wiener Schnitzel aus der Fritteuse und die Bratkartoffeln lappig und ohne Geschmack. Als wir dies beim Bezahlen bemängelt haben wurden wir angeschnauzt 🙈 absolut nicht zu empfehlen 👎

Beautiful and quaint restaurant in Freiburg city center with great dishes. It can get full quickly but just wait a moment or sit down at a table. It is worth it! The only drawback: there could be more vegetarian options

Great, rustic restaurant in downtown Freiburg. It can be very cozy, but that just shows how popular the “Schwabentörle” is. The food was outstanding. I have rarely had such an onion roast on my plate. Everything was really right there. The dessert menu is clear and classic. The apple fritters chosen were solid. Definitely a recommendation if you want some good food spontaneously.

Zin Deutschen Haus is a small restaurant serving typical but delicious regional food for a honest price. Quality and service are consistently good. We like returning here whenever we stay in Freiburg.
