Whenever I'm in Freiburg, I make a detour to the south. I'm a bit boring when it comes to food 😂 I always eat the sausage salad with fried potatoes... Delicious. Of course, there are many other dishes. The Waldhaus alcohol-free is also good. I'd like to give a special mention to the staff, who are super friendly and attentive. I've been back here after a year... Great as always!

The Süden restaurant in Freiburg is particularly impressive in nice weather, with its wonderful outdoor area, pleasantly separated from Alfred-Döblin-Platz by a bamboo screen. This creates a relaxed and cozy atmosphere. The daily specials selection is very good and varied. While the portions could be a bit larger, the prices are generally reasonable. The staff is friendly and attentive, which rounds out the experience. In summary: A lovely place to eat and linger – we'd gladly return!

Super friendly service, all young and friendly people with friendly smiles. Fast service—the food only took 10 minutes—a large garden with umbrellas, and the terrace upstairs also has seating. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Great traditional German option if you're in the Vauban area. My date really enjoyed her enormous side salad that came with her Putenschnitzel. I got the regular schnitzel and used the accompanying mushroom sauce as a dip. Really tasty! The service was very friendly and the vibe feels very local. The weekly farmer's market is actually right in front of this place, so you really get a community atmosphere while dining on the front patio. Will have to try some of the other dishes if we're in the area again!

We were here for lunch with 12 people. The service was very friendly, the orders came surprisingly quickly, and everything tasted delicious. The food is down-to-earth. You can sit outside, which is nice.

After more than 30 years, I was back in Freiburg. A visit to the Vauban district was a must. On my first visit, there wasn't much to see. The "Green City" has now blossomed. During a stroll, I came across this café-restaurant, located on the quiet Alfred-Döblin-Platz. I had a coffee before continuing my walk. Friendly service. Also nice: quite a few sparrows flutter around, coming to see if there are any crumbs to be picked up. Fortunately, these feathered friends are still thriving in Vauban.

Tl;dr It was awful. I ordered Steak with fries and Coca Cola. Steak was 2/10, fries 5/10, but Cola... Well, the Cola was sparkless, not a single drop of sparkling Cola inside. I asked them to give me a new one, after which they brought the exact same one! Its shameful for such a high price. I dont understand so much positive reviews, do people even know how restaurants cook? Thank you, but never again here.

Even in the heat, it's nice to sit outside under umbrellas. Very friendly staff. The food was okay. The schnitzel was greasy, the Zurich-style veal strips were tough, hard, and stringy, and the sauce was tasty. Salads were okay. The food and drinks weren't exactly good value for money.

We come here often, and the food is always delicious. The daily specials are varied and diverse. The "Grope Nut" salad is amazing, and the nuts and seeds are very plentiful. What remains the same, though, is the service. The service is always super friendly and accommodating. We'll continue to come back.

Very good food and service. We forgot to ask the bill for having the refound from the company since we are travelling for work. We come the date after we got dinner and they helped us giving us the bill! Thank you ;)

We've loved coming here for years! The service has ALWAYS been prompt and friendly, and the food has ALWAYS been quick and fresh, so I highly recommend it!

I go there once a week and always eat the tarte flambée. It's amazing! Thin and well-filled. The setting is quite good, with a relaxed atmosphere, like a local pub. Make a reservation, just in case.

A very rustic Baden restaurant in the alternative Vauban district. The atmosphere is incredibly nice, both inside and out. The young, friendly staff. Prices are quite high for mid-range fare. The tarte flambée is rather mediocre; the one at Aldi tastes better. It didn't smell good, the crust was too thick. Jägerschnitzel with spaetzle was okay, nothing special, but the sauce wasn't enough, although it was good. I'll be back for the atmosphere.

I ordered a glass of water (0.4L) and paid €3.30 for it – for table water. I think that's overpriced. I understand that every restaurant sets its own prices, but such costs should be communicated more clearly. I didn't think that was fair, and I won't be coming back.

Here you can eat well, for reasonable prices. The place is clean and nice. Service is also very friendly

What a cozy evening. Flavorful local dishes. Good beers and wines. A great beer garden. And the service team was exactly what you'd expect: friendly, quick, and if you had a special request, they responded immediately, without saying "I'll have to ask the kitchen first." A huge compliment. That's just how a neighborhood restaurant should be. Solid, friendly, down-to-earth.

South urgently needs the new chef. The food was again miserable. I'm very sad about this because I would like to come for lunch.

I have been visiting the Süd restaurant regularly since I was a child. Even today, at 27 years old, I really enjoy eating there. I particularly like the schnitzel. The service is super friendly (there is a great atmosphere both within the team and towards the guests). The ambience/location is beautiful and reminds you of vacation, especially when you sit outside. For me, the south is a place where you can feel good and eat well - then as now.

Hue on the outside, yuck on the inside. At the front, everyone is going organic with the organic drinks and the ambience. Unfortunately, only the cheapest Metro products are used in the kitchen, which is far from organic and of high quality. It's a shame that a shop like this can survive in Vauban.

It was really very tasty. They have a wide variety of food and very large portions. The meat is very good and butcher quality. Good ice cream! And nice service. Definitely worth another visit!

Great schnitzel!!! I recommend this with spaetzle and cream sauce☺️ The staff was also very friendly and accommodating. I can only recommend it to anyone who is ever in Freiburg!

Delicious food and always friendly staff. We never made a reservation, but there was always a spot at a very cute table. My friend always goes for the steak and is always satisfied. I have ordered something from the daily menu before and have never regretted it! Recommended! The terrace is also very nice when the weather permits.

Good menu with some unusual vegetarian dishes.

I called around 18:45 to try to book a table for 20:00, but they told me restaurant was full. They suggested that they will see what they can do when we arrive. Luckily it wasn’t too busy when we arrived. There were Interesting paintings on the wall and historical interior design, nice and relaxing atmosphere. The staffs were very friendly, attentive, and efficient. We were served very quickly. Thumbs up for the service team! The foods were very delicious and the amount were really generous ( two pieces of Schnitzel even it wasn’t mentioned on the menu)!

The cuisine is very good, my breaded pork schnitzel seemed freshly prepared as did the fries. The restaurant has a slight monopoly in the Vauban district, which has a large population of children. A member of staff rightly refused to allow our child to crawl around, but did so in such an unfriendly, derogatory manner. Everyone has a bad day, but taking it out on a new mother is not professional. The contrast to the super friendly remaining staff was immense, which is why we would be happy to come back.

Cozy atmosphere, good food and value for money.

Vauban’s young and old meet here. Delicious, often alternative food and drinks. Vegetarian and meat, everything fresh. Young service staff and chef who are very customer-friendly.

Tasty, tasty, but a little too loud

Tasting today's menu - the menu was plain tasty. But the atmosphere of the store was very good. It felt like I was entering someone's mansion.

Been here a couple of times, big spacious rooms, loud, without any apparent theme/concept. The food is good, the rest is fine. Never had anything to complain about - never had anything to especially commend in any way. Good for large groups. Nice location.

I wanted to eat something with my friend and the waiter said we can't eat here because we are 12. However, you can also go out to eat in restaurants during the day at the age of 12. But we still had to go.

Food is ok, although very manageable. But the prices are already outrageous. 25€ for a salad. We were there once, but not again.

Süden is a very nice local restaurant. Kind staff and good food. In addition, there is a lot of choice for all people (meat, veg, vegan). I recommend making a reservation! In the summer they have fans so you do not sweat.

The ambience is good, the waitresses are very attentive and friendly, but unfortunately the food is just ok. Price very good, quality not. Ready-made sauce, store-bought spaetzle, dry, tough schnitzel, cheese spaetzle, although cheesy - but just cheesy, dry and hardly seasoned, no salad with it. And the salad you buy extra is soggy and drowned in dressing.

The ambience and service were great, the food was mediocre, the salad was drowning in vinegar, the dish came really quickly but was just lukewarm, the potato gratin was too salty. Home cooking a little further away from Freiburg is of better quality

The best restaurant we have eaten in frieburg. It offers a wide variety of dishes that suited each member of our family. The service was quick, and the waiters were very attentive and polite. Of the portions we ordered, the steak was the best one of all.

The food was delicious, we shared the cheese spaetzle and the chèvre salad, the combination was perfect, 5 stars each. Because a picture is worth 1000 words, just look at the pictures. The vegan mango panna cotta was also delicious, I just missed the “fullness” that a panna cotta with cream would have. Visually, the Physalis was the icing on the cake and because it was vegan, there is no deduction for the missing cream, so 5 stars across the board. The service was very attentive.

Visiting from beautiful North Rhine-Westphalia and spontaneously landed in the south. Despite the crowded restaurant, we were provided with drinks in an extremely friendly manner and were given the next possible table. The service was great, the food was really tasty and the evening was perfect.

Ordered a small non-alcoholic beer, got a large normal one and only had to pay for the small one... I really can't complain 🤝🏻

Very friendly & courteous staff. We ordered the cheese spaetzle pan twice. The food came quite quickly, despite there being a lot of guests, but unfortunately it was barely lukewarm, rather cold ☹️ but very tasty 😍 The prices are absolutely fair. For a tea, a beer, a water & two main courses we only paid €39.80 The ambience is fantastic, makes you want to linger for a little eternity

I ended up leaving before ordering as the waiter that should have made us feel welcomed was arrogant, unfriendly, obviously unprofessional. If this place was some cheap food stand I might put up with it, but this is a restaurant. Went somewhere else with great food and great waiters.

Service and food is great. Small point of criticism. Way too warm inside in summer. It's much better at the windows than in the middle of the room.😉
