Vauban’s young and old meet here. Delicious, often alternative food and drinks. Vegetarian and meat, everything fresh. Young service staff and chef who are very customer-friendly.

Cleanliness could be better. Some of it should be painted. Food was good, just too cold. Service great

Tasty, tasty, but a little too loud

Tasting today's menu - the menu was plain tasty. But the atmosphere of the store was very good. It felt like I was entering someone's mansion.

Been here a couple of times, big spacious rooms, loud, without any apparent theme/concept. The food is good, the rest is fine. Never had anything to complain about - never had anything to especially commend in any way. Good for large groups. Nice location.

I wanted to eat something with my friend and the waiter said we can't eat here because we are 12. However, you can also go out to eat in restaurants during the day at the age of 12. But we still had to go.

Süden is a very nice local restaurant. Kind staff and good food. In addition, there is a lot of choice for all people (meat, veg, vegan). I recommend making a reservation! In the summer they have fans so you do not sweat.

We were thrilled! The menu is very varied. Both vegetarians and meat lovers will find what they are looking for here! The ambience is a successful mix of clocky and modern. And the service was extremely friendly! If we didn't live so far away we would come more often.

The ambience is good, the waitresses are very attentive and friendly, but unfortunately the food is just ok. Price very good, quality not. Ready-made sauce, store-bought spaetzle, dry, tough schnitzel, cheese spaetzle, although cheesy - but just cheesy, dry and hardly seasoned, no salad with it. And the salad you buy extra is soggy and drowned in dressing.

The ambience and service were great, the food was mediocre, the salad was drowning in vinegar, the dish came really quickly but was just lukewarm, the potato gratin was too salty. Home cooking a little further away from Freiburg is of better quality

The best restaurant we have eaten in frieburg. It offers a wide variety of dishes that suited each member of our family. The service was quick, and the waiters were very attentive and polite. Of the portions we ordered, the steak was the best one of all.

The food was delicious, we shared the cheese spaetzle and the chèvre salad, the combination was perfect, 5 stars each. Because a picture is worth 1000 words, just look at the pictures. The vegan mango panna cotta was also delicious, I just missed the “fullness” that a panna cotta with cream would have. Visually, the Physalis was the icing on the cake and because it was vegan, there is no deduction for the missing cream, so 5 stars across the board. The service was very attentive.

Visiting from beautiful North Rhine-Westphalia and spontaneously landed in the south. Despite the crowded restaurant, we were provided with drinks in an extremely friendly manner and were given the next possible table. The service was great, the food was really tasty and the evening was perfect.

Ordered a small non-alcoholic beer, got a large normal one and only had to pay for the small one... I really can't complain 🤝🏻

Very friendly & courteous staff. We ordered the cheese spaetzle pan twice. The food came quite quickly, despite there being a lot of guests, but unfortunately it was barely lukewarm, rather cold ☹️ but very tasty 😍 The prices are absolutely fair. For a tea, a beer, a water & two main courses we only paid €39.80 The ambience is fantastic, makes you want to linger for a little eternity

I ended up leaving before ordering as the waiter that should have made us feel welcomed was arrogant, unfriendly, obviously unprofessional. If this place was some cheap food stand I might put up with it, but this is a restaurant. Went somewhere else with great food and great waiters.

We ate there twice, each time a 300g rump steak. The first time had a great taste of fresh herbs. Cooking level medium was perfect. The second time the steaks were seasoned rather flatly, no taste of rosemary or anything else. Doneness level on both steaks. It was still really raw. Upon request it was confirmed that there are different chefs. Even if this is the case, the guest expects the same dish to be at least equally good every time. So chefs, talk to each other.

Honestly, I can't say anything bad about the South. The staff is incredibly warm and friendly, so you will always enjoy coming here. The food is varied and there is something for every taste. A big compliment to the wonderful staff – you really make the south special!

Why these blatant price increases? Salad with turkey now costs €20.90? Previously €13.90... The same applies to the turkey schnitzel. This is about a price increase of over 50%. It's absolutely not okay.

What a salad, and at a reasonable price: Calypso, with carrots, radishes, tomatoes, beetroot, turkey marinated in sesame. A huge portion! In addition, very attentive service, bustling around the table in the beer garden from all sides. And a bowl of water for the dog. So I praise myself for that. Full marks!

We were in Freiburg for the first time and found the Restaurant Süd by chance. Then we were consciously there again this time. Everything is true, the kitchen is very good, the service is friendly, the whole atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed. Absolutely recommended.

The ambience is ok. The food wasn't very good. The pasta is very al dente. You could hardly see the salmon in the pasta and if there was a larger piece it was cooked three times so it was done. I had 2 shrimp. These were well fried. But this plate for €22.90 is absolutely too expensive. I will definitely not be a guest there again and will certainly not recommend this to anyone else. A pity

A beautiful, cozy restaurant. There is a homely atmosphere inside and outside that invites you to stay. The staff is exceptionally friendly and you immediately feel welcome. There were 4 of us and we were there on a Tuesday evening. Because of the rain we had to wait about 15 minutes, unfortunately it was not possible to make a reservation by telephone. To eat: We ate rump steak, Jägerschnitzel, lamb steak, and pork and turkey schnitzel with side dishes. The meat was of very good quality and, from rump steak to lamb and pork, was cooked to perfection and very tender. The potato gratin was very tasty but could still have used some color. The sauces are particularly worth mentioning here. A true dream for every sauce lover and you can really taste that they are homemade sauces. The price-performance ratio is also absolutely right. All in all, I now have a new regular restaurant that I can recommend with a clear conscience to anyone who wants to spend a nice evening with their family. Many thanks to the kitchen and service.

I have been to the "South" several times with my daughter and family - and we have always been satisfied. The service is friendly and the food is served very early - but above all it is good, very good. We will always enjoy dining in the "South".

19 euros for a schnitzel with average meat quality & normal frozen fries without a side salad - How is this price made up?! It's really a shame...as a regular guest, I understand general price increases in recent years, However, there is a 7 euro price increase and at that time a salad was included in the price - I don't know of any other comparable restaurant. It's really a shame to have to look for a new regular restaurant after such a long time!

I grew up near the restaurant and also know the previous restaurant. As a child, I was allowed to work behind the counter and serve drinks for my parents... I'm just saying this to make it clear: I've known the restaurant and the location very well and for a long time. When I still lived and worked here in Freiburg, I met my father in the south almost every week and we always ate the same thing: schnitzel with fries. Whenever I returned from my place of study, I used to eat here with my father, mother, sister, friends and girlfriend. The schnitzel is GREAT, very tasty. HOWEVER, the schnitzel now costs just under 19 EURO.... No pig in the world can tell me that 200g of its body is worth that much. Only schnitzel with fries, no salad, no side dish, 19 EURO. Ok, I know, Corona was violent and prices increased, and then Putin, the madman, came along and caused war in Europe and turned off the gas tap for your stove. But you're not the only restaurant in Europe. Just because the eco bigwigs from Vauban with their academic jobs or inheritances have no problem paying 19 euros for a factory farmed schnitzel doesn't mean that you are without competition, quite the opposite. I don't come to the south anymore, not because I can't afford it, but because the price-performance ratio cannot be justified with common sense. The staff is great! The atmosphere is beautiful and cozy! You're all doing a great job. The person who makes the prices is a fool Ciao

I'm very sorry, but 2 breaded turkey schnitzels, which were pounded thin or rolled much more, for just under €19. My partner had a vegetable casserole for almost 19 euros. I am a professional chef myself and I find this price-performance ratio to be pretty great. I paid almost 50 euros for two blackcurrant juice spritzers, which I have to earn first.

I didn't know that you could go so wrong with schnitzel and fries. Schnitzel probably warmed up in the microwave. Too expensive, the schnitzel wasn't seasoned, but the fries were totally over salted. Fried potatoes oily and not good either. And for an extremely high price. I don't understand the positive reviews at all. It's not even at the level of a snack bar. That was bottom class, never again.

Had a delicious meal in the south yesterday. Already nestled at a small table for two, there was delicious soup as a starter and curry/pasta as neatly portioned vegetarian main dishes. We were both super full and returned home in a good mood. Definitely coming back ✌🏻

I just ate a schnitzel and drank a beer. But what a schnitzel! You eat a lot of schnitzels in your life, but I would put this one in my top ten. Tender, thin meat with an almost brilliant breading. Every bite pleased the taste buds. Homemade gravy on the side, very good! Generally very cool atmosphere. Parking spaces are rather rare.

Wir waren während eines Kurztrips ins Breisgau an zwei aufeinander folgenden Abend mit unserer Hündin Ambra im Süden essen. Bei dem Restaurant Süden handelt es sich um ein uriges, mit viel Liebe zum Detail eingerichtetes Restaurant. Die Servicemitarbeiter- innen sind sehr aufmerksam, freundlich, hilfsbereit und schnell, ohne jemals in Streß zu geraten. Die Küche bereitet hierbei hervorragende frische, geschmackvolle und schön angerichtete Speisen zu. Wir können dieses Restaurant nur empfehlen und kommen gerne wieder. Zudem bietet das Restaurant noch weitere Sitzplätze auf einer überdachten Terrasse, sowie wietere Sitzgelegenheiten im Freien.

Wir haben hier sehr gut gegessen und wurden sehr freundlich bedient.
