Service is nice and prices are cheap but food wasn't tasty

I recently had a burger with friends at the Nettle. There was a super long hair caught in it about halfway through. It was at least 20cm long, so I couldn't hold back my disgust and told the waitress with the addition that you should probably put on a hairnet in the kitchen. But the employee blamed it directly on colleagues in service and said it couldn't come from the kitchen because no one there had that long hair. About 2 minutes later, two people came out of the kitchen (no service staff), both of whom had hair so long that they could tie their hair in a braid. Additionally, the hair in the burger was caught in the patty itself and couldn't have fallen on it from the outside. In any case, they took the burger back and offered me a new one, but unfortunately I had already lost my appetite. As an alternative, they offered to pay for my drink. At first I thought it was nice, but afterwards I was quite annoyed. Everything was fine with my drink! Why should you pay me that? The burger was the problem! But they didn't want to take it over. I suspect it had to do with the price (around €16). I've never written a Google review, but I think it's important to share something like that, especially for a store with such a good rating. (P.s.: I'm writing from a borrowed account since I don't have one myself.)

Since I began my studies in Freiburg in 1993, I have often been to the stinging nettle! It's still a cult favorite for me and my student friends to this day! When I visit Freiburg today, I always try to combine it with a visit to the Nettle! It is associated with many beautiful memories! And I love the burgundy sauce there and always order an extra portion because I think it's so delicious! For me the classic is turkey schnitzel with fries and burgundy sauce! And the nice thing is, it still tastes like it did back then! Our multiple attempts to get the recipe failed again and again! It is always relatively full there and it is advisable to reserve seats! The menu is now even more varied than before and you can eat there quite cheaply! Spaghetti Bolognese is a classic and is a huge portion! Unfortunately I now find the lighting too dark! On my last visit last week I found it really a bit gloomy when sitting in certain places and I think that's a shame because I want to see my food itself! But otherwise everything was as usual and I will continue to visit the nettle!

Very loud here, food was so-so, I definitely can't recommend the Korea burger (it really tasted like vomit). The staff really didn't make any effort to provide guests with a pleasant atmosphere. We only got the food after an hour of waiting. The only thing that is ok here are the prices and offers. I am very surprised about the 4.5 star rating…

I was there and my food came after an hour, my partner's another 15 minutes later. Also had a big hair in my food which spoiled my appetite. The meat was very bad, not salted at all, unfortunately there was no extra salt on the table. Very unfriendly staff. They should be happy that you have to rate it with at least one star, otherwise I would give it 0 stars.

Large portions, very tasty food, great prices

I'm in Freiburg for the first time today!!! I spontaneously went into the nettle!! There was delicious German cuisine and the atmosphere was very inviting

Eating and drinking very tasty, lots of choice, including veggie and vegan, large portions for the price. The operating team was friendly, helpful and familiar. Unfortunately it became very loud later and the restaurant is not barrier-free (toilet in the basement). Luckily we had reservations.

Great portions for the price, especially their Bolognese pasta. It isn't the most delicious thing, but certainly worth getting for a sizeable dish at a low cost!

I have been to this restaurant twice. Small ordering errors sometimes but they make up for it on drinks or something else. The servers are very friendly. The maps are only in German. The staff speaks German and English but unfortunately not French. Otherwise good atmosphere and hearty meals at attractive prices. I will go back!

The food was good. The furnishings are rustic. Unfortunately we were overcharged for 1 dish. Unfortunately we didn't notice it straight away. The next day we complained, unfortunately no refund or at least a voucher, so be careful when paying

Stinging nettle is simply cult in Freiburg. Good food, very good value for money, an institution in Stühlinger.

Quaint local. More of a rest stop feel, but that's probably how it's supposed to be. The young staff is relaxed and extremely accommodating. The portions are really generous and really tasty. Great kitchen!

Awesome locals place. We visited here for dinner. They don’t have English menus but with google translate and previous pictures we were able to choose dinner. The wait staff speak English and helped us through the menu as well. Food was really good. I had the cowboy burger. It was huge served with steak fries.

A slightly neglected place, the waiters are very nice but you have to call them to order because they forget about the customers sitting at the table, but then when the dishes arrive you forget about the wait. Mega! Pasta with tomato sauce was delicious! There's even vegan cheese now! 😭💖 And not only that! Incredibly many new vegan dishes! Two different burgers, tarte flambée, curry & even dessert! Chocolate cake with a liquid chocolate center! Vanilla ice cream with hot raspberries! And hot chocolate! Incredible! I'm so excited! Just really brilliant improvements since my last visit! Spirit-sized portions for a small price. Potato gratin can satisfy an entire cow. Very nice supervisors and a cozy atmosphere, if the German guest didn't practice her Spanish very loudly. Come back safely with my brothers 🙏🏼

Really great, simple economy. Rarely have I had such a good burger in a restaurant (with homemade lime mayo!!!) and at a price that is unimaginably fair. But that's part of the philosophy here. Here everyone should and can be fed at a price that is more than affordable. When I'm back in FR, I'll be happy to come by...you should definitely try the bolo here.

Unfortunately the ambience is not my cup of tea, bad lighting like in a basement, stuffy air and loud. Service inattentive, dirty glasses, my food was returned because it was absolutely not edible even for a pub meal it was simply not edible. The waiters petted a dog in the restaurant and then simply continued to serve and brought the next plates and drinks to the tables. The hygiene is very questionable, as you can read in previous reviews.

Been there often, often disappointed and ultimately lost us as guests. We are a young mixed group who were there a total of 5 times and always ate and drank and spent around €30 per person each time. Summary of our visits: 1. The chop was almost always underdone and still raw inside (since pork is a no-go). The response to complaints was downplaying. 2. Service is more concerned with talking to each other than serving. You often have to wait a long time before you can order anything and no one even looks after you. Even when there is little activity. 3. A waiter once spilled something all over my jacket. Instead of someone coming to meet you or offering something etc. it was just a matter of me not saying anything to the boss... it couldn't be more unprofessional 4. When I was clearing away, my empty cloth bag was taken away by the waiter and the waiter was also at the end of his shift. The next person was in no way interested in taking on the matter or at least checking to see if he had put it where or something else. 5. Empty glasses that were served with drinks were often still wet and we had to pour out any remaining rinse water... Overall, we can only advise against it, as the ambience seemed rather uninviting and not really comfortable to us. It's just always beautiful. Delicious food at super good prices and really nice staff. The Spaghetti Special at €2.80 a portion is incredible and the meat is sourced locally. The rest of the menu is varied. Recommended.

Great value for price! It's quite loud, but only due to the great atmosphere 😃. Both Kartoffelgratin and Rinderhüftsteak were delicious.

Da italiano ho scelto questo ristorante perché poco turistico e frequentato da persone del posto. Gli hamburger sono un po' particolari (sapori contrastanti) ma di buona qualità e di buona porzione. Ho mangiato anche la cotoletta che non è impanata ma veramente buona con tantissime patatine e un sughetto molto saporito. Porzioni in genere generose. Prezzi nella media del posto o forse poco inferiori. Un posto da tenere in riferimento. Personale cordiale e disponibile.

Super freundliches Personal. Das Essen wurde schnell serviert. Die Qualität war ebenfalls sehr gut! Hier bekommt man reichlich für mehr als angenehme Preise. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Preiswert und dabei qualitativ spitze… das findet man nur noch selten. Wer hier noch nicht Speis und Trank genossen hat, hat noch nicht gelebt. Neben den gastronomischen serviceleistungen stehen auch eine Reihe an Brett und Gesellschaftsspielen zur verfügung. Der Service ist freundschaftlich angenehm ohne dabei an Professionalität zu sparen. Alles in allem eine absolute Empfehlung für den kleinen Geldbeutel, vor allem als Student ist es ein Traum so einen Laden in der Stadt zu haben.

Muito bom para um jantar descontraído, comida e ambiente muito bons, bom atendimento, preço muito razoável.

5 personas por 86 euros, en Alemania, no está mal, no? La comida muy buena. Si pides pasta menudo platazo. La carne argentina riquísima. El queso rebozado y frito fenomenal. Los postres muy buenos. Los camareros muy atentos. Hablan castellano, francés, alemán e inglés. Es un sitio para repetir. Friburgo es muy bonito.

Traditionelle Studentenkneipe mit ordentlich Flair, bezahlbaren Essen und über 50jähriger Tradition. Eine echte Institution in Freiburg!

Ein typisches Studentenrestaurant, man darf kein hochklassiges Restaurant erwarten. Das Essen ist okay, der Service manchmal etwas verlangsamt oder unaufmerksam. Alles in allem aber sehr angenehm mit netter Atmosphäre.

Eindeutig ein Laden für Studenten, wir waren allerdings mit Kindern da, die sich auch wohlfühlten. Tolle sehr preiswerte Gerichte, die allen schmeckten. Junges, engagiertes Team. Wir kommen gerne wieder P.S.: Waren ein paar Tage später nochmal da. Der Burger "Texas" war ein Traum!!!

Für jemanden der für wenig Geld eine warme Mahlzeit sucht genau das richtige. Sehr sehr günstig aber dementsprechend auch nicht besonders gut. Sehr nettes Personal und ziemlich runtergerockter Laden.

Tolle Wirtschaft im Studentenviertel mit einer netten, jungen Crew. Das Publikum ist durch alle Altersklassen gemischt und man fühlt sich in dieser lebendigen Umgebung superwohl. Das Essen und die Preise sind auf jeden Fall unschlagbar. Aber ohne Reservierung würden wir es garnicht erst versuchen, einen Tisch zu bekommen. Danke und bis zu unserem nächsten Besuch in Freiburg.

Ich hatte einen Burger aber der war leider Recht trocken und die Soße hat man gar nicht geschmeckt. War dafür leider auch zu teuer. Aber der Service war gut. Nichts besonderes aber sie waren alle nett.

Das Essen war sehr lecker, sehr moderate Preise. Der Service war so lala, die Aufnahme und Ablieferung unserer Bestellung lief nicht reibungslos. Die Bedienung kannte den Wein nicht, der bestellt wurde (2x), ging los ohne alles verstanden zu haben, Getränke kamen nicht korrekt an, ein Essen wurde vergessen..da ist Luft nach oben. OK, es ist eine Studi-Kneipe, das Ambiente ist einfach, rustikal und die Bevölkerung ist lustig.

Ristorante frequentato dagli abitanti di Friburgo. Cucina semplice, prezzi modici (il riso al curry con ceci e patate più insalata viene 12 euro). Cucinano anche gli spaghetti (bisogna però insegnare al cuoco come si saltano in padella) in porzioni abbondanti. Personale simpatico e servizio veloce. Frittura di calamari perfetta.

Best Deal I had in a long time. 3,8€ for a big portion of spaghetti Bolognese. Taste is good! The atmosphere is quite relaxed sitting outside. Highly recommended if you search for a cheap location with decent food and atmosphere!

Sehr gutes „Stadt“ Essen- nicht mehr so sensationell günstig wie früher aber ok. Draußen sitzen ist schön aber halt direkt an der Eschholzstrasse. Dafür kann die Brennnessel ja nichts dass man das Gefühl hat mitten auf der Autobahn zu sitzen.
