Immer gerne wieder :)
We were in Franconia again yesterday, and of course, at the Glockenkeller in Forchheim. And once again, it was perfect. Friendly, quick service, great food, and a lovely atmosphere under the open sky!
We had two Schäuferla (a kind of pork stew) with dumplings and sauerkraut. Very large and perfectly cooked for a reasonable €16, and a half-liter of beer for an incredible €3.60.
All in all, it couldn't be better or cheaper!
We only went there for a meal. Not for the first time, but definitely the last.
Unfortunately, the menu is becoming increasingly unimaginative yet more expensive.
There were two main course options for vegetarians:
1. Bread dumplings in mushroom cream sauce €20
2. Lentil stew €15
Due to a food allergy, mushrooms were out of the question. So I ordered the lentil stew.
When it arrived, it looked like vegetable soup.
The not-so-large bowl wasn't even half full. A few lentils, pieces of half a potato, and half a carrot were floating in a clear broth.
No joke, the bowl was empty after 10 spoonfuls. So was my stomach.
The other people at the table also thought it was a starter.
The server I mentioned to her mumbled, "Oh, I'll pass it on," and was never seen again.
The dessert portion of apple fritters for €9 was twice the size.
I had to pay the full price, I left the restaurant hungry and will not recommend or visit it again.
Delicious again. And the staff were very friendly and accommodating despite the large crowds and impatient people who insisted on a seat despite not having a reservation.
The fried noodles with chicken were delicious. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, and the noodles had the perfect consistency – neither too soft nor too dry. Together with the fresh vegetables, it created a harmonious, hearty dish that was both satisfying and incredibly tasty.
We had our team Christmas dinner on a Wednesday.
It took a good 20 minutes before we could even order drinks.
The wait for the food was also excessive at around 40 minutes.
When the food finally arrived, we ordered more drinks, which took another 15 minutes, and by then we had already finished eating.
The food itself was okay.
It's a real shame; I unfortunately cannot recommend the Gebirgsjäger restaurant in Füssen.
