Rustic and simple. Very friendly atmosphere, very fair prices.
Also suitable for larger groups, as it's bigger than expected. At least during the week when there's no football game on.
It was a wonderful evening. The restaurant was well-stocked. There was a convivial atmosphere. A nice selection of wines by the glass and by the bottle. The menu is small but excellent, with vegetarian, fish, and meat options. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. At the end of the evening, we had a quick chat with the chef. Everything was great; we'll be back.
Thank you very much, it was wonderful and really special! It was our first time there and you could really tell that Peter himself is a big fan of the dishes, loves good, regional food and appreciates its origins and that was immediately transferred to us :) I haven't often felt such a warm welcome here felt like a restaurant. The service was great, very attentive without being intrusive. A nice homely and cozy atmosphere :) The food was incredibly delicious and I will definitely stop by more often!
Food very tasty and modern Greek cuisine. However, the start was a bit bumpy, I had reserved online and then received a confirmation for a different time. Unfortunately there was no answer to my query. Still everything worked out. There were four of us and three wanted to travel through the menu, for health reasons I had to eat something else. The waitress refused and you can only order table by table because otherwise the kitchen would be in disarray. To my objection that I could adapt my order to the journey through the menu. Came a negative no! We didn't think it was that good, the friends were already looking forward to the menu because they liked it the last time they were there. Why, we were flexible???
First of all: it was absolutely delicious at Heimatjuwel! This (not entirely strict) vegetarian restaurant in Eimsbüttel serves regional, wonderfully creative, and delicately crafted dishes.
The menu is quite simple: there's a 5-course menu (€89) and an upgrade to six courses (€109). One of the two upgrades includes regional beef. A wine pairing (€51/€61) can be ordered with the menu.
It started off brilliantly with homemade, very crusty sourdough bread and a bright green, extremely tasty kale butter. The three-part amuse-bouche consisted of a lentil and celery soup and two tartlets with pear balls and pickled red onions. A feast for the eyes!
The actual menu began with a beautifully decorated swede mousse with beer vinegar and shiso. It's amazing what you can get out of such a boring-looking turnip with the creativity of the Heimatjuwel kitchen! Speaking of creativity: it was also involved in the organic egg yolk with crispy cereal flakes. A very tasty starter.
We continued with a potato with roasted vegetables and two sauces. What can I say? Another poem!
The main course would do any Michelin-starred restaurant proud: Pizza Funghi in "Heimatjuwel style." It's quite difficult to describe, so please take a look at the photo and try it for yourself :-)
At this point, the kitchen added another "greeting." As a starter, a cheesecake espuma with cranberry mousse and crumbles arrived, delighting us even more.
For dessert, I swapped the originally planned tonka bean for the highly recommended upgrade "Hamburger Kapitänskäse" with red cabbage and black walnut. Very creamy and wonderfully flavorful.
Finally, beautifully arranged "sweets" were brought to the table. Vanilla, spruce shoots, and pickled cherries were included.
The wine selection was very imaginative and apt. The service was unobtrusively friendly and very competent. The interior, crafted by a carpenter, was tastefully chosen and perfectly in keeping with the style of the house.
Definitely worth trying!
Very, very tasty food, huge portions at a good price.
The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, you are treated like you are part of the family!
Personally, the red curry was a bit spicy for me, but afterwards it was pointed out to me that next time I should make the curry a little less spicy.
Before I packed up the rest of my food to take away, the curry was "toned down" a bit because the hostess didn't want to throw the curry away.
I'm thrilled!
If I didn't live so far away, I would come more often!
Edit: 5 months later exactly the same experience on the second visit.
I can really recommend it to every visitor to Hamburg!
