*Update, the message back just concludes my review of the owner being rude, also spoke to a few other local bars nearby and they all said the same about the owner and how all he cares about is money, very glad we had left and didn’t spend anymore money* DONT GO HERE! MANAGER/OWNER EXTREMELY RUDE!! We visited from England and thought we had found a little gem for the football and beers, service started nice but the main guy who served wouldn’t smile once and was offended we spoke English. Then we tried to buy cigarettes on the machine in there and it swallowed the cash so barman got on phone to owner and owner was extremely rude saying it’s not my problem, what are you going to do call the police and came across very rude. Really friendly customers who we were speaking too just a shame about the customer service and the manager being so rude. Bar man it’s not hard to smile once in a while even if you have English customers, we’re a nice couple and would’ve spent a lot of money however we decided to leave as they were too rude!!
An (almost) perfect evening in “Alte Liebe”!
The cuisine at “Alte Liebe” is definitely in the top league. Each dish was not only excellently prepared, but also a real highlight in terms of taste. The compositions are thoughtful, creative and demonstrate a deep understanding of the fine balance between flavors and textures. Particularly noteworthy is the excellent wine pairing: each wine was perfectly matched to the respective dishes and complemented the dishes in a way that took the entire culinary experience to a new level.
The wine list also deserves high praise: with its impressive selection and fair prices, it leaves nothing to be desired - a true paradise for wine lovers.
But with all the praise there was also a small setback. The service was undoubtedly thoughtful and professional, but at points it seemed too much like a perfectly rehearsed show. The personal touch that would have made the evening even more unforgettable was missing in places. Only one service person tried to counteract this impression.
Unfortunately, there is another negative point for the ambience - specifically for the chairs. After three to four hours on the decidedly uncomfortable seating, you almost wish the menu was shorter. For a restaurant of this level, it's a shame that such a lack of comfort spoils the overall impression, especially when the problem is probably well known.
Despite these minor criticisms, “Alte Liebe” remains a place that I can unreservedly recommend to foodies with a love of great cuisine and fine wines.
The restaurant accepts reservations even though it is closed. There is only an outdated, small, hidden notice on the website from May 2022. However, you cannot see this notice when you open the homepage and the reservation button is the same size. Why should I browse through the hidden parts of the site when I can reserve a table there immediately and seemingly easily. You should expect that the reservation function is deactivated if the restaurant does not accept any reservations.
It should also be said that the reservation has been in place for several weeks, during which time they could have found the time to inform us. If you as a customer feel that you are being taken so seriously in advance, you will certainly no longer value a visit.
We traveled from the UK to Germany for a trip and family visit, and along the way, I tried this restaurant. It was an amazing experience!
Pho with Beef 🥢
The broth was light yet flavorful with a hint of spices. The beef was tender, and the rice noodles were perfectly chewy. With fresh bean sprouts and spring onions, every bite was satisfying.
Appetizer Platter 🍤
The spring rolls were golden and crispy, packed with delicious filling. The fried dumplings were also great—thin, crispy skin with juicy filling inside. The two dipping sauces added extra layers of flavor.
Atmosphere 🌿
With wooden tables, red chairs, and simple yet cozy decorations, the restaurant had a relaxing vibe. The overall dining experience was excellent.
If I get the chance to visit again, I definitely will! Highly recommend!
We (three people between the early 40s and 70s) ended up there by chance after a visit to the cinema and for the first time and were totally thrilled! Both meat lovers and vegans will find a delicious, oriental, spicy and colorful selection here. The concept of partial self-service was completely fine for us and so were the prices. We will come back and recommend.
