This is more of an event than just eating out. Certainly not for everyday wear, but ideal for a special occasion. Since I don't normally go out for such exquisite meals, I can only describe the Setkasten in superlatives: top cuisine, first-class service, cozy ambience. I've never experienced wine pairing so perfectly with food. The price is high, but you get something in return - so the price-performance ratio is good.

Normally a clear case for five stars. However, you have to keep in mind that you are in a restaurant with a Michelin star and are paying well over €200 per person. The food was very good and very original but sometimes not the perfection of classic work (for example the cooking level of the halibut in the main course). Conclusion: a very good fine dining restaurant. Compared to the competition in Düsseldorf, it's not quite at the top.

I would have liked to report on a culinary experience at this point. Instead, my visit to the JAE in Düsseldorf left a bitter aftertaste - and not because of the food or drinks, but because of the deeply unpleasant treatment of guests, which was disturbing on several levels. After a relaxing evening with friends - including lawyers, entrepreneurs and executives - we were looking for a stylish location for a last drink. JAE seemed to fit the bill with its high-quality furnishings and well-curated drinks menu. What followed was all the more irritating. After entering the restaurant we were told in a very clearly negative tone that there was no wine. This happened while we were surrounded by wine and champagne bottles visibly displayed - an absurd claim that no one can seriously believe. The message was clear: our presence was unwelcome. Why? Because we didn't show up in expensive suits? Because we weren’t part of the “regular audience”? Because – despite our polite demeanor – they didn’t trust us to fit into the picture? The attempt to subtly but clearly force us out of the restaurant was as obvious as it was shameful. Hospitality? None. The fact that such behavior is tolerated – or worse, practiced – in a restaurant that sees itself as ambitious raises fundamental questions. About values. About attitude. About authenticity. And about the criteria by which people apparently hope to secure the favor of certain restaurant guides. Because one thing is clear: consistent discrimination based on appearance or supposed affiliation is not something that can be reconciled with the principles of the Michelin Guide or other renowned rating institutions. This isn't about choosing clothes. It's about attitude. And it was – with all due respect – underground. I have eaten in many countries around the world, in star restaurants and small family businesses. However, I have never been treated so subtly, like a second-class guest. One thing is clear to me: anyone who makes guests feel unwanted - for purely superficial reasons - has no place in fine dining.

We were able to enjoy the Spring Awakening 5-course menu and found the menu to be wonderfully coordinated. A real experience and highly recommended. We had hoped for a little more in terms of ambience for the price range. All in all, a very nice evening!

Thank you very much for the lovely evening. It was one of our favorite restaurant experiences. We were personally and warmly welcomed by one of the two chefs. The restaurant is small and plays soft music. In each of the 4 courses you could choose from one of two dishes. We also had non-alcoholic wine and sparkling wine. Each of the dishes was not only excellent in terms of craftsmanship, it was also creative, with unexpected nuances that combined beautiful flavors on the fork, such as rice pudding foam with leeks in the dessert. The restaurant is not an assembly line, every plate is prepared with love, but in our opinion the price is absolutely fair. We have definitely put it on our wishlist and would like to come back again.

With Benjamin Kriegel, the Lido Hafen is once again a culinary hotspot at the highest level. Every course is an experience – refined, precise and full of taste. Anyone who already knows him from Fritz's Frau Franzi or Pink Pepper will be amazed at how he has developed further here. Regionality, seasonality and genuine love of products are clearly the focus For us, Ramona Kriegel is the best hostess in Düsseldorf - charming, attentive and with a keen sense of wine, timing and atmosphere. She accompanies every menu with natural warmth and real class. With a view of the water, a well-thought-out menu and a perfect host duo, the Lido Hafen is a culinary highlight of the city for us.
