Gourmet-Restaurant Setzkasten im Crown in Düsseldorf

Two weeks ago, I went there for dinner with a friend. It was my second visit. The meal was perfectly prepared. Each course was presented on the plate like a picture. The staff were never intrusive, but rather cheerful and extremely friendly. The young crew loves their job, and as a guest, you feel well looked after.

A first-class menu with high-quality ingredients. The creativity of the courses and the excellent wine pairing served by the expert staff are a delight. We would be happy to return!

Update: Went back to the set case and were once again completely blown away! Both the menu and the service were spectacular! It couldn't be better.

Wonderful experience with great food and an amazing staff

It was lovely to be with you again. My last visit was about two years ago, before the remodel. So, I was really looking forward to it, not just the upcoming menu but also the new ambiance. Both aspects were impressive once again. In addition to the charming service, every course was a delight. There was also a non-alcoholic beverage pairing – a perfect drink for each course – simply fantastic. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

What's shown and offered here is simply perfect from start to finish, and at an incredibly fair price-performance ratio. The guys and girls here are really into it, and you can tell from the first second to the last. We'll be back, for sure.

A well-deserved star. The idea of describing the ingredients of the courses on a menu is very nice, and the fronts are designed by an artist. The dishes are powerfully but harmoniously seasoned, without overpowering the individual flavors of the ingredients.

I had an excellent meal and experience at Setzkasten. I was very impressed by the attention to detail and stories behind each dish. I sat at the Chefs table and was greeted with open arms and countless conversations from the head chef. I very much enjoyed my meal and would recommend Setzkasten to anyone traveling to Dusseldorf. I truly see why they received a Michelin star. Excellent dining experience!

We'd been wanting to visit the Setzkasten for a while and finally made a reservation for June in May. A good month passed between the reservation and the actual visit – and during that time, the Setzkasten received its Michelin star. We were thrilled! And we can say, it fully deserved it! Even though the menu – understandably – underwent some changes, that didn't dampen our anticipation. We were there on a Saturday lunchtime and opted for the 3-course menu (Okroshka - Limousin Lamb - Cherry Tree). I decided to add an extra course (Carabinero) on the spur of the moment. The menu was fantastic – surprising, with truly goosebump-inducing moments. Every single course was well thought out and perfectly composed. The attentive, competent, and friendly service rounded off the experience. And now I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. One thing is for sure: We'll definitely be back!

Today, after a long time, I ate at Setzkasten in Düsseldorf again. Setzkasten is a restaurant in the middle of a supermarket. Okay, it is a great supermarket. It's the Crown/Zur Heide in the center of Düsseldorf. The restaurant was awarded its second Michelin star the day before yesterday. Even if you wouldn't expect it, in my opinion this restaurant deserves two stars. Perfectly seasoned dishes of the highest quality. Highly professional service and incredibly good value for money. I chose the non-alcoholic meal accompaniment. It was not only exciting, but also perfectly matched the meal. As for the value for money, take a look at the last photo. This is a genuine recommendation, not an advertisement.

We like the ambiance, the friendliness, and also the open kitchen, where you can see the attention to detail that goes into preparing the dishes. We've been planning to visit Setzkasten for a long time, but somehow we never managed to make it. Tonight, it finally worked out. Our expectations were quite high, and they were exceeded. A wonderful ambiance, and every course was simply fantastic. We booked the wine pairing, and each wine was very unusual and perfectly matched the respective course of the menu. We were looked after by Frank; thank you, Frank, for the great service and the friendly explanations. Overall, we find the concept of the Edeka Zurheide market in a former Kaufhof building unique and could serve as a good example of abandoned Galeria buildings in some cities. If you get the chance, you should definitely visit the Setzkasten restaurant.

We had a fantastic evening and experienced many culinary highlights in the set box. The food and wine were varied and exceptionally tasty. It was simply a pleasure. The service staff was extremely courteous, friendly and competent. There really wasn't anything missing. Recommendation for a very special evening!

This is more of an event than just eating out. Certainly not for everyday wear, but ideal for a special occasion. Since I don't normally go out for such exquisite meals, I can only describe the Setkasten in superlatives: top cuisine, first-class service, cozy ambience. I've never experienced wine pairing so perfectly with food. The price is high, but you get something in return - so the price-performance ratio is good.

A truly fabulous restaurant, especially if you're new to fine dining. The dishes are lovingly designed and prepared, and you will be overwhelmed by the different flavors. In contrast to other “fancy” restaurants, you don’t have to lose a whole fortune straight away. The service was also always very friendly and was always available for advice and questions. The nice thing here is that the people seem a bit more down-to-earth, so you don't always have to pretend to be so extreme. Here you never feel uncomfortable or out of place. :) Depending on where you sit, the atmosphere is more or less cozy, but overall it's still really great there!

The two of us were in the Setzkasten restaurant and were completely thrilled and satisfied. Even if the price is correspondingly high, it is definitely an experience. One star deducted from the ambience because the round tables are not ideal for two people. The food and service are absolutely 5 stars! A clear recommendation if you have the necessary change :) One note: we found it unpleasant that a fee was requested/required for the toilet. Last Monday, we visited the Setzkasten restaurant, located in an Edeka supermarket in Düsseldorf. We were seated at the chef's table with chef Egor Hopp and not only enjoyed unique, breathtaking dishes, but also had the opportunity to watch the kitchen team conjure up their magic. 🪄 Egor immediately won our hearts – you can feel the passion with which he cooks in each of his dishes and in the way he guided us through his unique concept. We could have listened to him for hours! 🤩 Martin, the sommelier, also treated us to fine wines, and the entire team made this evening an unforgettable experience. The service was friendly and courteous, the kitchen works quickly and deliciously, the location is interesting: all in all, an all-round successful restaurant. Obwohl ich jetzt schon öfter im Setzkasten zu Abend gegessen habe, habe ich es bis jetzt versäumt eine Bewertung dazu zu schreiben. Aufmerksam auf das Restaurant bin ich währen der Corona Zeit geworden, da das Restaurant einen fantastischen Take Away Service hatte. Vielleicht auch wegen der unüblichen Location in einem Supermarkt - die einige Menschen abschrecken mag - ist der Setzkasten im Moment mein liebster "Fine Dining Spot" in Düsseldorf. Eben weil es in einer speziellen Location ist, das Team in Küche und Service jung und innovativ ist und auch das Ambiente für mich stimmig ist. Natürlich ist ein Abendessen, speziell mit Weinbegleitung und Digestif, kein "Schnäppchen", aber die Speisen sind von Qualität und Optik großartig und die Weine hochwertig und lecker. Dies bekommt man sicherlich in anderen Düsseldorfer Top-Restaurants auch geboten, aber für mich nicht immer in so einer entspannten Atmosphäre wie hier.

My mother and I had dinner here once three months ago because this is the only fine dinning restaurant in Duce that is open on Mondays. Overall it's not bad and worth a try. The non-alcoholic drinks that accompany the meal are average. A lady from Luxembourg who was in charge of greeting guests that night left a deep impression on me. She was not only friendly, but also very attentive and aware of every detail.

This place has beaten my expectations and has provided a better fine dining experience compared to many Michelin stared restaurants I have been to in the past. The dishes have such a perfect mixture of taste and texture, it makes you wonder why it doesn’t have a star. You might find it strange that it’s located in the basement of a high end supermarket, don’t let that stop you from making a reservation. You won’t regret it.

Wenn man es einmal gefunden hat (das ist nicht so einfach, hätte uns die nette Concierge nicht einen Abend vorher angerufen) ist es einfach nur lässig. Tolle Speisen, moderate Preise für das gebotene (einzig und allein muss ich allerdings auch wie ein Bewerter zuvor die Wasserpolitik bemängeln, das ist zu teuer). Wir hatten viel Spaß, wir haben ausgezeichnet gegessen, also wirklich gut, ganz ganz tolle Atmosphäre, einfach unbedingt zu empfehlen. Wer hier Kellner mit Schlips und Kragen erwartet, ist sicherlich falsch. Der Laden ist ausgelegt auf absolutes Casual Dining, wobei die Speisen absolutes Fine Dining sind. Volltreffer, wir fanden es super. Absolute Weiterempfehlung.

We ordered the New Year's Eve menu to take home and it was great. Sixteen different small courses - all very varied. Cold and warm courses. So we had a festive evening at home with a menu that you wouldn't be able to manage yourself.

Eten grotendeels erg goed, al waren er 2 gerechten aan de zoute kant. Dat was jammer. Aan de bediening lag het niet. Deze deden erg hun best. Echter, Op de website staat dat je met 4 uur rekening moet houden. Wij gingen dus voor een avondvullende ervaring, 6 gangen, inclusief een bijpassend wijn arrangement. Jammer genoeg werd onze avondvullende ervaring, er in 2,5 uur doorheen gejaagd, wat dus ook inhield dat we af en toe met bijna volle glazen wijn zaten, terwijl het volgende al op de tafel stond. Ook toen we aangaven dat het best wat rustiger mocht, ging het tempo niet naar beneden . Achteraf denken wij dat, omdat de winkel om 10 uur sluit, ze er iedereen er voor 10 uur uit willen hebben. Dit matcht dan niet met het feit dat ze reserveringen aannemen voor 19.00h. Al met al dus door het hoge tempo, niet echt de ervaring waarop we gehoopt hadden, en we zeker van het wijn arrangement niet echt hebben kunnen genieten.

Die Lage dieses Gourmet Restaurant ist schon etwas trikki ; Im Untergeschoss des Crown hinter der Champagner Bar. Trotz unmittelbarer Einkaufszone hat man nicht das Gefühl im Trubel zu sitzen, sondern ist optisch und akustisch gut abgeschirmt. Wir bestellten beim Mittagstisch das 5 Gang Menü einmal mit Weinbegleitung und einmal ohne. Alle Speisen waren sowohl kreativ angerichtet, als auch von einer sehr guten Qualität. Die Weine passten gut und waren für uns nahezu perfekt. Zu erwähnen ist die besondere Kreativität bei den nicht alkoholischen Getränken. Der Extrakt von einer Knollen Wurzel ... Der Service dezent aber kommunikativ ; Preis,- Leistungsverhältnis sehr gut! JA, wir kommen gern wieder. P.S. Weiter so und der erste Stern ist sicher.

Too bad we were not allowed to sit at the requested benches. Were all reserved, the waiter said, okay, but we also made reservations and in the end there were places available. Thoughts were not applicable, but local people were allowed a nice bench. Not very fair if you ask me

Wir hatten gestern, am 27.11.2024, einen tollen Abend im Setzkasten. Sowohl Service, als auch die Qualität der Speisen haben uns sehr überzeugt. Es gab zu allen Gängen gute Erklärungen und Nachfragen wurden geklärt. Die einzelnen Gänge waren hervorragend, innovativ und äußerst geschmackvoll präsentiert. Unserer Meinung nach verdient das Restaurant mindestens einen Stern. Wir werden wieder kommen!

Friendly but at the same time relaxed gourmet restaurant. Not over-the-top or exaggerated like the Residenz Heinz Winkler or similar shops. Nice and attentive (and sometimes quite talkative) service from the reception to the end. Starters were the best, all creative and tasty. Main courses were also okay, although not a single course “knocked us off our feet”. We didn't think the desserts were that great, even though they were actually the simplest. Visually appealing but nothing great in terms of taste. Wine accompaniment was generous and varied. Very good knowledge of allergens. All in one a good experience

Been there several times but this was the first visit since the "new" chef at Business Lunch on Friday: The food was sensational. Big compliment to the kitchen - my highlights were the piece of fillet (tender than butter!!), mackerel, the buckwheat parfait and pumpkin seed sorbet/ice cream with the truffle🤤 really great! Service was very attentive, I like the new visual style. Non-alcoholic aperitif was a bit bland so it would have been better to choose non-alcoholic sparkling wine or something similar. Very good restaurant, We had lunch and, if I remember correctly, had the 6 course menu + additional course and you have to say, that is really eating as an experience. Incredibly creative dishes that depend on the season and are really prepared and served to perfection. The food has a lot of very fine flavors that all come into their own little by little. The staff was very friendly, there is also an alcohol-free accompaniment that is really good. For anyone who has never been to a star restaurant and is worried that it might be too pretentious or something similar, I can reassure you, you always know which cutlery is for which and I didn't have the impression that you can't talk to people normally can also make a joke sometimes.

We were looking for a fine-dining restaurant that also offered vegan food. We then found a typesetting box and had a vegan 6-course menu there. This was our first time at a fine dining restaurant and it was truly an all around great experience. I had the vegetarian menu and the non-alcoholic accompaniment and my partner had the "normal" menu with wine accompaniment. Every single course and the accompanying drinks were simply a pleasure. There was also a lot of information about the dishes, which really makes the whole thing an experience. You should bring enough time. We were surprised at how quickly the time flew by, even though we were there for 4 hours. The whole staff was super friendly. Frank relaxed the whole thing and we felt very comfortable. We'd love to come back :)

We have been here for the third time now, both in the evening and at lunchtime, and are once again thrilled. The restaurant is definitely on a par with star restaurants. Not only does the food taste great, but it is also beautifully prepared and served. The service is extremely friendly and you feel in good hands even if you have little fine dining experience. The chef incorporates citrus fruits and herbs and combines them with flavors from childhood. We can also recommend trying out the Chefs Table, as you are right at the heart of the action and get a lot more information. There are also vegetarian menus and great care is taken to accommodate all intolerances and tastes. One more small wish at the end: add piglet tea to the menu again at some point

The food and service were absolutely stunning. The dishes are prepared with total dedication and taste incredibly good. We were also really impressed by the friendly service and kitchen staff. Definitely the best meal I've had in Düsseldorf and also in Germany. This is truly a Michelin star caliber restaurant. Every course was better than the last. The only negatives I have to say are the desserts, although well-prepared, weren't my personal favorites. I gave the atmosphere 4 stars because the lighting is just way to bright in there for me. But the food and the staff are amazing! Keep up the good work. We'll be back in a few months once the menu has cycled.

Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Abend mit Freunden am Chef‘s table. Das Menü war von allerfeinster Qualität und der Michelin-Stern kann eigentlich nur eine Frage der Zeit sein! Die Gelbschwanzmakrele und die Grüntee Pavlova erzielten regelrecht Geschmacksexplosionen wie man sie selten erlebt. Bei jedem Gang spürt man die Frische der Produkte, die jedes Mal anders in Szene gesetzt werden. Das Team um Chef Egor Hopp ist rundum sympathisch und aufmerksam. Fachkompetent wurde in die Gänge eingeführt und auch Rückfragen zur Herkunft wurden beantwortet. Die Preisgestaltung ist m.E. realistisch und angemessen. Das Setting in der Feinkost-Abteilung eines Supermarkts ist sicherlich ungewöhnlich, aber gleichzeitig natürlich auch spannend. Eine absolute Empfehlung für Düsseldorf!

We had the great pleasure of spending an evening at the boss's desk in the typecase. Pure enthusiasm - food, drinks, service, atmosphere, the boss's explanations...!!! We've been to many star-rated restaurants - we have no idea why the set box wasn't awarded at least one star. Anytime again - the 280 km journey is worth it. Thanks!!!

Food at the highest level, high-end star cuisine. Great service, price/management more than justified. Thanks to the team and especially to Frank, who accompanied us through the evening.🙏 We will definitely come back! The only, really only small point of criticism was the lack of attention on our wedding day! 😉

As a first Fin Dining experience just perfect, very good food and nice staff! Of course it's not cheap, but lunch is recommended here.

Great experience It was my first time at fine dining, and to the detriment of my wallet I have to say, I liked it way too much :D The staff in the typecase were very friendly and we were guided through the brunch experience first-class.

Erst will man es gar nicht glauben, ein Spitzenrestaurant im Untergeschoss eines, allerdings sehr edlen, Feinkostmarktes. Man findet es gleich neben der Champagnerbar. Die Atmosphäre ist von Anfang an sehr angenehm, gehoben, aber nicht abgehoben. Die Begrüßung und Aufnahme ist ausgesucht freundlich, einschließlich eines Besuchs des Chefkochs am Tisch. Die Beschreibung des Menüs erfolgt auf Karten, gestaltet von einer bekannten Künstlerin, zu jedem der insgesamt zehn Gänge des Abendmenüs. Die einzelnen Gerichte sind in ihrer ausgesuchten Finesse schlicht überwältigend, Und auch der sehr aufmerksame Service lässt keine Wünsche offen. Die gedämpfte Nähe des Feinkostmarktes haben wir nicht als störend empfunden. Von der Leistung dieses Restaurants waren wir einfach nur begeistert.

Yesterday I had dinner in a restaurant with my girlfriend. The menu is really very creative, unusual and very well coordinated in terms of taste. The individual components were very tasty. The wine pairing was really perfectly matched to the menu. The food and wines were explained in great detail and professionally. In fact, I can't remember ever having a menu come across as exciting and interesting to me. Even when there were questions about the food, the service was able to answer everything without help from the kitchen. We had a very nice evening. Thank you!

Sorry, aber man sitzt im Keller. Je nach Tischposition hat man ein „tollen Ausblick“ auf die Toiletten …. Portionen zu klein, Preise wie im Sterne- Restaurant und das Servicepersonal ist teilweise sehr unprofressionell. Und am Ende darf man noch nicht unerhebliche Parkhausgebühren zahlen- super.

The restaurant is in an unusual location: in the basement and in the middle of a large, beautiful food market! The welcome was warm and we felt very welcome as guests. We had reserved and our table request was taken into account; we were seated at a nice, large, round table. The ambience is pleasant, the tables are far enough apart so that you don't hear the other guests' conversations. The meal was an experience; every course was exceptional and very attractively presented; Everything tasted wonderful and was very, very good! My companion had the “normal” menu, I had a vegan multi-course menu. It was very nice that every “normal” course was translated into a vegan version by the kitchen team! We also really liked the fact that the chef kept showing up and explaining what we had on our plates! We had our menu with wine accompaniment; the sommélier was also very friendly and competent. The price-performance ratio is very good for the great experience and the good quality! All in all: I can highly recommend a visit to the Settkasten!

We ate in the casement box before the renovation. I would particularly like to highlight the very nice lady at the reception. Even though the Setzkasten restaurant only gets very good reviews, I have to differentiate a bit. Service: For a restaurant of this class we missed a sommelier. Our waiter was completely overwhelmed with the wine and water service. We had to fend for ourselves several times. Kitchen: The food was very tasty - only the portions (fish & main course) were very, very small. We left hungry. We could have done it like our neighboring table did, because they reordered bread 3 times 😃! Summary: Next time we'll go to a real star restaurant to eat again.

Fantastic, just fantastic. Innovative gastronomy and art at its best. We spent a full 5 hours in the typesetting box and love every carefully selected component of the dishes. The wonderful illustrations by Elisabeth Tans and the fine humor and culinary knowledge of our waiter Frank and every absolutely thoughtful and down to the tiniest detail Planned and harmonious culinary delights are a dream. Many thanks especially to the head chef (cherry picker) and his team de cuisine. There is also convenient parking directly at EDEKA Zur Heide and the restaurant is barrier-free. We will be back.

Wir haben im Setzkasten unseren vorgezogenen 25ten Hochzeitstag gefeiert. Ja klar haben wir gehört das sich ein paar Sachen geändert haben. Aber Punkt 1 die neue Einrichtung ist einfach super ; Punkt 2 das Team ist hoch motiviert und immer da wenn man sie braucht und nicht sichtbar wenn man einfach nur genießen will und Punkt 3 und das ist der Hammer , was die Küche schickt hat auch jetzt wieder einen Stern verdient . Innovativ , verspielt, köstlich und immer wieder einen Besuch wert, nur weiter so

They don’t serve after 7:30, even we had agreed that we can have short menu, if then why tell me you can serve short menu when booked the table? (Which I had clearly mentioned that we will be there around 7:30)

The Setzkasten restaurant is located downstairs in the supermarket. The waitresses are all super friendly. Everyone is very involved in the kitchen. We decided on the lunch menu and also treated ourselves to the lobster. Overall, a well-rounded affair. It was a lot of fun.

This was our fourth time in the setting box and as always we were not disappointed. The lunch menu offers star-level food at a good price/performance ratio. The employees are very attentive and the service is always top. We'd love to come back.

Update March 17, 2022 Definitely improved. Service and quality. Update 2024 Shame about the type case. While service was perfect, the case was disappointing in other respects. That was my 10th visit. Price/performance is no longer right. The portion sizes of all dishes appear to have more than halved in 12 months. The quality is high, the quantity greatly reduced.

Today was our 5th visit to the typesetting box. Thanks to the redesign, we like the restaurant even better than before. The ambience is more relaxed and elegant, but still offers guests more privacy in their seats. We have been very impressed on each visit, but the current menu has been taken to a new level. The menu concept was consistent from start to finish and the accompanying wine complemented our entire stay perfectly. At this point we would like to positively highlight the very attentive and friendly sommelier Martin, who accompanied us through the menu. Many thanks to the entire Setkasten team for this unique experience! We are looking forward to the next time!

A great evening in the typesetting box. The menu is simply great! Delicious! Nothing was missing. The only small point of criticism is the service. The wine accompaniment for one course was only brought upon request (after the course was already in front of us) and the finale was unfortunately forgotten or only served after we had pointed it out. Otherwise, great presentation of the individual courses and wines at the table. Definitely worth a little trip for us!

Absolutely great! Much more than just normal dining out as you know it. It was truly an experience that everyone must have had. Everything prepared with so much love and effort and worth every penny! We had never been to a gourmet restaurant before and yet we felt very comfortable and had a special, unique experience!

I am very pleased with the food, service and attention to detail that the chefs and service provided during our visit. A clear recommendation to anyone who loves good food.
