Unfortunately, we weren't satisfied with the food; for us, it was one of the worst pizzas ever. The base was very hard, almost like crispbread, and the taste wasn't great either.
Unfortunately, the food also arrived very late; one person even had to wait a long time, as some were almost finished eating.
Unfortunately, it was a disappointment for us.
The price-performance ratio and concept should perhaps be reconsidered.
If I could, I wouldn't give any stars. We reserved a table for two. We were then seated at a table for 6-8 people with the words, "More people will be joining us shortly." Immediately afterward, the menu arrived. Unfortunately, this wasn't how we envisioned our New Year's Eve. We left empty-handed, but with a story worth telling.
Fantastic Italian restaurant, absolutely authentic, like sitting on the corner of a small Italian town.
Superb pizza and pasta.
And absolute respect to the owner – he runs the place single-handedly! Both the kitchen and the service. And with this level of quality!
My new favorite Italian restaurant!
Wow Really good harty meal. I hate it when they offer vegan food and it’s plain, boring and not tasty. Here I will decently repeat!
Very friendly staff very tasty!!!
I always enjoy the food here; it's beautifully presented, and the meat is sliced nicely and thinly. The food is very friendly. I really like it here.
On October 4, 2025, the three of us visited the Useful Things restaurant in Tegernsee for the first time – and were pleasantly surprised three times over.
1. First impressions – shop or restaurant?
Upon entering, I was initially unsure: Is this a modern corner shop with fine kitchenware and select wines – or a small bistro with big-city flair?
In fact, it's both: a lovingly designed retail space with a few, but stylish tables and chairs "Made in Germany," meticulously set and adorned with fresh flowers in small vases.
2. The kitchen – small, open, masterful.
The second surprise: a tiny open kitchen where the chef puts the finishing touches on the à la carte dishes. A rare sight – but also a sign of craftsmanship and confidence in their own kitchen.
3. The menu – ambitious and authentic.
The third surprise: a menu that can easily rival even the most discerning gourmets.
Diverse, thoughtfully designed, and with a culinary confidence that truly impresses.
...even before we arrived, we were served bread with refreshing herb quark and marinated tomatoes – a thoughtful amuse-bouche.
Starter: a coconut curry soup, perfectly balanced in both flavor and texture. And I mean truly perfect – I don't say that lightly.
Main course:
An authentic Swabian roast beef, cooked to a juicy pink, with beautifully caramelized onions.
Served with hand-cut Spätzle – a classic from the region, masterfully prepared.
The dark sauce? Cooked by a true expert, as it turned out:
Chef and sole cook Jürgen Kaul is originally from near Stuttgart. You can taste it.
Dessert: a delicate orange semifreddo with fruit – small, refined, and a fitting finale: an espresso with biscuits.
The service? Warm, professional, sophisticated – and never intrusive. Kudos to the friendly waitress who, with her attentive eye, keen sense of style, and a smile, created a thoroughly pleasant atmosphere.
In short:
More than just a surprise – Useful Things is a charming place where food is cooked and served with heart and skill.
That's why we give it our highest rating.
We'll gladly return.
Best regards,
Peter Fuchs
A strange place. We arrived with a baby, said we’d appreciate faster service. Took a while for someone to take our order. After the appetizers we waited a while again and then a server came to tell us he’d -forgotten- our first course order. Amusing. We said forget about that then, how quickly can you get our main course? He says “2 minutes”. 15 minutes later I have to stand up and go find him … and so on and so on. We left before the deserts. On the bill was a bottle of coke and some wine, neither of which we ordered. The food was ok. Overall a weird experience.
We were there for the first time today and were pleasantly surprised. I had a Wiener Schnitzel, my wife had roast pork, both very tasty. The owner is very friendly. The restaurant is simple but clean. We felt comfortable and will gladly come again!
