A thoroughly successful evening with very good service (kudos to the blonde waiter), the food was great, very generous portions. The Mozart skewer is highly recommended, very good quality of the steaks and fillets. The Aperol Spritz got bigger and bigger and the pancakes became a poem. Unfortunately we come far too rarely but we always enjoy it.
The Marktschänke in Cologne at the Großmarkt is a hidden gem for everyone who appreciates an authentic and cozy atmosphere. Here guests can expect excellent service, which is underlined by the friendly and open hospitality of the staff. The employees always strive to make your stay as pleasant as possible and are available at any time to answer your wishes and inquiries.
Another advantage of the market tavern is the international clientele, which is mainly made up of truck drivers. These ensure a multicultural and lively atmosphere. It is not unusual to meet people from different countries here, which gives the place a special charm.
In summary, it can be said that the Marktschänke in Cologne at the wholesale market impresses with its good service, affordable prices and warm hospitality. It is an ideal place for everyone who appreciates uncomplicated and inviting gastronomy. Here you immediately feel welcome and in good hands.
We went to brunch at The ASH Köln MesseCity on Sunday, which unfortunately didn't impress us. The hot food consisted largely of convenience foods (fried mozzarella balls, fried wings, and reheated pancakes). It also came with an egg dish (scrambled eggs from a tetra pack). Fresh fruit was completely absent. Overall, the food seemed rather lacking in quality.
On the plus side, the service deserves special mention, hence the 3 stars.
I was really looking forward to the visit, but was completely disappointed. As soon as we arrived, it was clear that communication was extremely difficult - no one in the team spoke enough German, which led to many misunderstandings.
The friendliness also left a lot to be desired. The staff seemed consistently uninterested and not trying hard. A simple smile or greeting would have been a good start - unfortunately none.
The overall atmosphere seemed unkempt. Tables weren't cleaned properly, the floor was dirty, and the overall impression was just unhygienic. This could have been easily avoided with a little attention.
The food was the sad highlight: none of it seemed fresh, the taste was hard to define. At times it smelled unpleasant, and the presentation was just as bland as the rest of the visit. Unfortunately I couldn't finish my dish.
Unfortunately I was not satisfied with the Valentine's menu.
The avocado salmon tartare was way too cold.
Our main courses were not served at the same time.
The sushi was ok, but better on normal evenings.
The strawberries from dessert were mushy. Presumably the dessert was thawed.
The Riphahn in Cologne is a real gem! Whether in the morning with breakfast or in the evening with the varied evening menu - every visit here is a pleasure. The quality of the food is consistently excellent and the atmosphere is simply inviting. For me the most beautiful place in Cologne for years!
A simple but really nice restaurant where the owner serves and cooks himself. You shouldn't expect a posh Italian. But is that what you would expect? This is how you imagine authentic cuisine from Italy. With a family atmosphere and a very nice chat with the boss. You simply feel good and are pampered with very good delicacies. I've never experienced anyone being unfriendly here. The prices for what is on offer are completely acceptable. From my side, I can unconditionally recommend Ars Vivendi.
Unfortunately Salvatore disappointed us on our last visit. We had reserved a table and were looking forward to a nice evening. When we were there, we were informed that he was now closing his restaurant because not enough guests would come. He didn't want to know anything more about our reservation. We were very amazed. What annoyed us the most was that he didn't even apologize to us for it. That's just no way to treat guests.
