In the spring/early summer of 2023, I didn't even notice that Merih Demir was no longer cooking at Landhaus Sonneneck; it was just the noticeable decline in kitchen performance at the time that made me a little suspicious.
In the meantime we have been able to enjoy Merih's good cuisine several times in his new place of work. If you don't know yet...Merih's brother Murat acts as the tenant and is also primarily responsible for the well-being of the numerous satisfied guests. Special requests are no problem. What can be done is done very simply. Decent selection of open wines. If you want, you can try it in advance.
The furnishing style is rather functional, as is often still the case in so many club restaurants. In summer temperatures, there is of course a shady spot on the spacious high terrace with a view over the well-kept tennis facility.
The menu is deliberately kept small, with a few daily recommendations expanding the offering. The well-known Vitello Tonnato and the Carpaccio with delicately spicy Cipriani sauce as well as the well-made pasta dishes are always very popular. The house always serves fresh white bread with a homemade aioli beforehand.
Last year's goose leg was less exciting. Of course, at a reasonable price of €27.90 - it's open to the fact that the goods are bought "somewhere" abroad - I shouldn't have too high expectations and it's certainly always a question of appreciation whether you don't want one or two euros more want to spend. But the side dishes weren't really my cup of tea either, especially the thin sauce that tasted pretty unremarkable. The consistency of a good goose jus should be such that it can be easily absorbed into the dumplings. I liked the venison ragout in a beautifully spicy, slightly creamy jus much better.
I stick with the Italian classics, which always impress with good, honest kitchen craftsmanship. I think the prices for food and drink are still completely reasonable, especially considering that more and more restaurants seem to be increasingly sailing in the slipstream of “inflation”.
Overall 4.5 stars, rounded to 5!
Recommendation!
A wonderful experience! The food was delicious and everything was cooked perfectly . The service was excellent — friendly, professional, and very attentive. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a nice Greek touch. You can really see the passion and care the new owners have put into the place — they’ve done an amazing job. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates good food and great service!
Unfortunately, the restaurant did not reopen after the flood.
Original review from before the flood:
Super delicious! I came especially from the Eifel to shop here again! Simply delicious and super nice staff!
Our LITTLE PUB in Leeden. We have a savings box there and every now and then we meet up with lots of nice people for a few BEERS. The INCONSULTANTS are simply great.
