Mama-Mia Osteria: An Italian gem in the heart of Deggendorf!
If you're looking for an authentic Italian experience, you don't have to look far in Deggendorf: Mama-Mia Osteria is a true asset to the old town. It's a small, charming restaurant run with meticulous attention to detail.
Ambiance & Concept:
The osteria boasts a stylish and modern interior without losing its cozy, Italian charm. You immediately feel like you're on vacation. A particular highlight is the extensive daily menu displayed on a chalkboard. Since the owner still cooks personally, it's immediately apparent that quality takes precedence over quantity. The changing dishes promise freshness and variety with every visit.
Food & Wine:
We were here for lunch and were lucky enough to snag one of the few coveted tables. The pasta was simply divine, and the mussels were also superbly prepared and of the highest quality. The meal is complemented by a very well-curated wine list that leaves nothing to be desired.
Service & Atmosphere:
Although the place was packed at lunchtime, the atmosphere remained welcoming. It's the perfect spot for gourmets looking for something special. You're sitting in the heart of Lower Bavaria, but for an hour, the flavors transport you straight to Italy.
My tip:
Since there are only a few seats, you should either arrive early or – if possible – make a reservation. We were lucky, but given its popularity, you shouldn't rely on that!
I'm truly shocked by the way customers are treated at the checkout. The employee was incredibly rude – no hospitality, no respect, just snappy, dismissive comments. That's no way to treat people! I was genuinely hurt by the way customers are treated there.
And then there was the smell… like standing right next to a sewer. Simply disgusting.
It's clear to me: I will NEVER set foot in that place again. And I sincerely hope that no one supports a fast-food joint that shows so little respect for its customers.
We went out for a meal with our two boys and it was great. The service was friendly and there were even toys to keep them occupied – the food was delicious – we'd gladly come again.
Neighborhood Style;
This place was honestly great. The food was fresh and delicious, and even when they ran out of a few veggies for the three Döners I ordered, they immediately cut fresh ones on the spot and apologized. The staff was kind, professional, and one of them even spoke English, which made ordering much easier.
If you’re on Aschaffenburger Straße, I highly recommend choosing this spot—especially compared to the street stand a block away, where hygiene and customer respect are seriously lacking. Here, you get a juicy, fresh Döner with warm bread, good flavor, proper cleanliness, and even a place to sit. Definitely worth the €8.
The food was good and the service attentive, which is why I was happy to tip more than 10%. Only afterwards did I notice, to my surprise, that an additional fee had been charged, presumably for card payments. Aside from the fact that I'm not familiar with this practice in Germany, it would have been fair to at least mention this extra charge before paying. Therefore, unfortunately, a small point deduction. 😏
A great beer garden, especially for cyclists. The interior features a Bavarian-Asian feel. Good, plentiful food, including vegetarian options, at a reasonable price.
We discovered the location about 2 years ago while staying nearby and were pleasantly surprised by this place that still retains some of the atmosphere of yesteryear and which amazed us with the delicious food probably cooked by the owner of the place himself 👏💯, we come whenever we have the chance from Munich, even just to pamper ourselves.
Unfortunately really bad. We went there because we were in the neighbourhood, and saw this restaurant has really good reviews. We love seafood. The prices are high, and portions are ridiculously small, but that isn't the main problem. As someone who is from Mediterranean and knows how seafood should taste like,I was really disappointed.(This on the picture costs 50€).In 3 years living in Munich this was definitely our worst restaurant experience.
Lovely little inn!
Great food and very friendly service!
The schnitzels are the best in Marktredwitz, and the Kronfleisch (a type of beef) is simply perfect! All the other dishes are also consistently delicious! Even the vegetarian options!
Superb beers from the Notthaft brewery—no wonder, since it's also a brewery pub!
I have to say it was one of the best experiences I've ever had! We received a very friendly welcome, and the service was sensational. I can't speak highly enough of the food. They offer a wide and varied selection of traditional and authentic Vietnamese dishes. This will definitely NOT be my last visit there! I highly recommend it :)) It's a must-do!
