Food quality was really good. Tasted delicious. The beef was cooked perfectly. The pasta was al dante. Loved the sweet potatoes fries though! We were so full halfway through the dessert.
Delicious Kaiserschmarren (fluffy and with roasted flavors, as it should be! Only the raisins were missing, but opinions differ on that) and plum and apricot dumplings. All this outside against the backdrop of the Hintersteiner mountains, which even makes you forget the impending rain. Absolutely recommended, at least for afternoon desserts.
If you're exploring Ingolstadt and happen upon it, it's a wonderful café with lots of options for breakfast and other things. It even caters to those who are intolerant to normal milk. The way you're welcomed there is incredible; the staff do a really great job; it gives you the feeling that this is a normal café. Keep it up, praise it highly.
Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio isn't in line. A real shame!
First of all: When a restaurant wants to compete in a certain price category, it naturally creates certain expectations for me as a guest. Unfortunately, these expectations were missed at After Church.
We had a table for two on a weekend evening. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted shortly afterward and shown to our reserved table. The interior design didn't blow us away; it seemed a bit haphazard and thrown together randomly. We found the lighting too bright for an evening dinner. There were no candles at the table. We would have preferred those to the bright overhead lighting.
We opted for the clams for our starter (18 EUR), the octopus with mashed potatoes, and the bacalhau with carrot puree (both 30/31 EUR) for our main course. When we asked which of the Vinho Verde wines best complemented our selection, the waitress was unfortunately unable to provide any information. We had expected that.
The bottle of wine arrived already opened, which I consider unusual. A new bottle is always opened when the guest arrives, so they know the wine hasn't been sitting around for a while. Unfortunately, that was a bit unprofessional. Fortunately, the wine was very good and paired well with the meal.
The clams were delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. There was nothing to complain about here.
The main course was different. Both dishes were presented very simply. The puree took up a large portion of the plate. The fish was simply placed to the side, skin-side down (why?). The dishes tasted good, but were nothing special. The fish and octopus were cooked to perfection, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, my fish was riddled with bones. As a guest, I expect (especially at that price!) that the chef will remove most of the bones to the best of his ability for a fish fillet.
Conclusion: Too expensive for what you get. I can eat much better in Munich for that money. Additionally, the service should be improved; they should be more attentive, refill their glasses, and know how to serve wine. I expect all of that in this price range. It's a shame, because in my opinion, a truly good Portuguese restaurant definitely fills a niche market in Munich and has a lot of potential.
A successful birthday party – highly recommended!
At the end of May, I celebrated my birthday with 24 guests at La Luna (private party) – a very good choice. Everything was perfect: the friendly and attentive service from Mario and his staff, the delicious menu (champagne reception, antipasti, a choice of fish, meat, or pasta, and dessert to finish). The tables were beautifully decorated, the atmosphere relaxed and stylish. Mario was a pleasant host, and all agreements were kept. And the option of celebrating as a private party is, of course, fantastic. I received nothing but enthusiastic feedback from my guests about the party and the restaurant. So, if anyone wants to have a great party: head to La Luna!
Superb burgers, juicy and freshly prepared. Cool American decor, and the service was friendly and attentive. A definite recommendation for burger fans!
I order often. It's always been delicious. It's nice that they also offer some vegetarian and vegan main courses! A great addition to Aschaffenburg, and I'll be back again soon. Keep it up! 😊
As a woman with hemiplegia, I wanted to order something there. I probably asked too many questions; "I ordered for food. I have to because I don't know the dishes, and it's expensive. I want to choose what I want to treat myself to. I got a rude scolding. I wish you good luck. Who am I then?! A paying customer...
