Zur Uel in Düsseldorf

Anyone who fatally neglects to make a reservation at the neighboring "Brauerei im Füchschen" will end up, willy-nilly - the interior is typical of a brewery and Füchsen-Alt is also available - in the "Zur Uel". But the punishment follows immediately: the food is subterranean!

A solid brewery... Good beer and good food...

Very simply furnished restaurant in the old town, owner-managed, friendly, service quick. We had sauerbraten from the daily menu, which was delicious. The only bad thing are the toilets, ancient, narrow, not dirty, but very narrow and shabby.

Unfortunately, we discovered for the second time that there were discrepancies during the payment process. For example, we wanted to pay for a large Coke; Instead, a juice spritzer was booked because the amount was identical. However, at the end a large cola remained open, indicating errors in billing. We already addressed this point on Saturday for clarification. We offered to settle 50% of the outstanding balance (approx. €53) as it is your responsibility to make the bookings properly. After you rejected our offer and we checked the invoice, we found evidence of incorrect billing behavior. This upsets us very much and gives the impression that guests are being deliberately deceived. With 55 planned guests and another full table, such behavior is more than questionable - we will not be coming back. It's unfortunate because we supported your operations with well-prepared evening planning. You received your entire order for the dishes from us in the afternoon.

Surprisingly diverse food, we were there spontaneously with a large group and were served at the same time, all different food, everything warm and everything delicious. The ambience of the brewery is rustic and authentic.

A full, noisy but cozy cafe, also with many locals. Don't expect culinary delights, just a good portion of food at a very reasonable price.

Yes, the Uel, I've been there before, years ago and, as I remember, I wasn't that enthusiastic. Today I basically took a wrong turn and ended up there by accident. OK, since you're here, give the store another chance and lo and behold, I'm positively surprised. One has to say quite clearly: the ambience could be better! No, it wasn't dirty, but everything was a little old. No matter where you look: toilet, guest room, bar, garden, entrance... everything has seen better days. Even if you expect a typical Köbes in his waiter's uniform, you're in the wrong place here: friendly and courteous, but in street clothes that blend seamlessly with the ambience. Well, nothing that would be really bad and yes, actually it's about the food and drinks and that was great! The wheat was well chilled and arrived immediately. For dinner I had an excellent pork knuckle with red cabbage and fried potatoes on a very simple, white, ceramic plate. I haven't eaten the knuckle better so far, you can definitely compare it with those from well-known restaurants in Düsseldorf, only here it's a little cheaper. The fried potatoes were fresh and good, the red cabbage also tasted good. The dish was rounded off with gravy and mustard, which were included separately in small bowls. So I ate very well, and the star deduction is for the ambience. But maybe you want it that way.

I had the gnocchi So delicious!! While waiting for the food, we were served bread and garlic butter- perfect and fresh.

The food we ordered was solid. The service was initially good and then unfortunately declined.

Very good beer hall in the center of Dusseldorf

The store is a complete disaster!!! Last night we spontaneously wanted to have something to eat in the old town, so we went to Uel. It all started when we received water and a Sprite in a small glass that I had never seen before in terms of size. The price for the two glasses was very high. Then we each ordered two schnitzels with fries and a side salad. The food was really disastrous!!! The schnitzel tasted burnt and was so thin. The fries looked old and of course they tasted that way too! Just like old deep fryer fat. I would give the side salad -10 stars if I could, and for the life of me I can't understand how the kitchen can let out such food. Lettuce leaves were a little older and already dry, the tomatoes and cucumber were definitely no longer fresh. The highlight of the salad was a dressing on top that I have never seen before. It tasted very sour and bitter and there was also a very cheap ready-made dressing with a strange consistency on it. Simply very very inedible!!! In addition to his schnitzel, my friend ordered a hunter's sauce, in short it was a bag of ready-made sauce that was just very cold and the mushrooms were still hard. The tables are glued so that the beer mat doesn't move a millimeter. The service comes across as lackluster and is often busy with other things like looking at cell phones etc.! So I think every station bar would do a better job with the schnitzel and fries. I can recommend this store 0.0% and don't have anything positive to say about it. The store has nothing to do with a restaurant. People here really don’t understand the catering industry.

It was midday, meals were served quickly (reheated). Grill counter: dry, cured meat, mainly sausage. Fried potatoes were tasty.

Stopped here spontaneously for dinner. A young team in a rustic pub. The service was quick and friendly. The food came to the table quickly and was delicious 😋 Of course there was also an Altbier.

Goose leg with dumpling and red cabbage. Who doesn't look forward to a meal like this? 29.00 euros is also ok. The table was very sticky. We asked to wipe it again. It didn't get any better either. Drink delivery worked well. The cutlery came in a former tin. When we took a look inside we noticed something quite different. Not so appetizing: everything wasn't quite as clean. Then the food came. The goose leg was pretty puny. There was a maximum of one spoonful of red cabbage. And the dumpling was a disaster. It wasn't finished yet and was cold inside. Overall the food wasn't really warm. I ordered another dumpling. Then it came. Really cold inside. Unfortunately we left hungry. I told the staff. Well, I won't judge the reaction. Next year we'll do it alone again with friends. It's a shame, I like to support gastronomy. But not like that!

Unfortunately the food was a big disappointment. It was cold and carelessly put together. The fried potatoes have barely seen a knife. Schnitzel extremely thin and slightly burnt. The mustard crust was missing the crust and the rump steak, well. Salad ok the service was ok. Toilets clean but..... The atmosphere is like a tavern and somewhere in the corners there are paint pots under the benches on the weekend!!

We've been there several times before, but today was really disappointing. I ordered goulash. The taste was good. But 5 little pieces of meat that you had to look for in the pepper sauce, that was really sad. Altbier on tap and already at 7 p.m.

Unfortunately the food wasn't tasty

Recently had dinner at Zur Uel and the experience was unfortunately disappointing. The Haxe was served remarkably quickly, which worried me, the quality of the dish indeed left much to be desired. It seemed that speed came at the expense of care. The taste and preparation were mediocre, and the dish lacked the refinement you would expect at a Düsseldorf restaurant. In addition, the service could have been a bit more enthusiastic. The staff was polite, but there was a lack of commitment, which meant that the feeling of hospitality was lacking. Friendly and attentive service can never make up for the mediocre quality of the food, however.

Nice, but it could be better! Yesterday we came in hungry. The food was okay in terms of price - but it lacked love and dedication. It was something of a path and not an experience; normally it should be more than just the satisfaction of a basic need. Of course, it's recommended for drinking a beer and the atmosphere is suitable - I'd take a closer look for eating. A little fresh coat of paint would also do the shop some good.

Dear Uel team, That was probably nothing! We had - Wiener Schnitzel - Asparagus with ham - Leberkäse with fried egg/fried potatoes The meat loaf was halfway ok, the fried potatoes were good but could have been warmed up. The schnitzel was first beaten to death and the breading was then almost twice as thick as the meat. The asparagus tastes like it has been drowned in water for hours. Overall, everything was carelessly arranged. The only thing that was really good: the water, the Cola and the Füchsen Alt. This has to be better!!! With a lot of goodwill 2 stars. Given the quality, this is the last meal for the next few years.

I had fond memories of Uel from before, which is why I went there with a visitor yesterday at lunchtime. The almost empty restaurant should have put us off straight away. Pasta dish ok and tasty, but the meat dishes (Züricher Geschnetzteltes and Mustard Roast) had a very strange taste of the meat -> suspicion of rotten meat. Disgraced again in Düsseldorf's old town!

It used to be one of our favorite stores for many years. Today, a small query about a price on the invoice can be intimidating. At least from the employee we caught. Creepy. No longer our store.

Beer ordered without a menu - costs more than with a menu. Inquiries to the staff were immediately answered very aggressively with a counter question as to whether we had a problem. There was no justification for the different prices. You can do that, but not with us!

Essen war sehr enttäuschend. Wir hatten einen Grillteller (19.90 €) und einen Senfrostbraten (24,90 €). Die Bratkartoffeln waren matschig und der Senfrostbraten zäh. Service unakzeptabel. Bitte nach Pfeffer und Salz blieb unbeachtet. Toilette war auch nicht besonders sauber.

It was very pleasant and yet a very open atmosphere. I personally had a Schnitzel "Jäger Art" paniert, but I really liked it. Price is normal and when I am in Düsseldorf again I will definitely eat there again.

Food was okay. Unfortunately, asparagus was not fresh. The employee was not able to write individual covers on the grounds that he would otherwise have to bill 300 people in the evening, complete nonsense if everyone still pays themselves. I don't advise anyone to enter this restaurant. The food is absolutely disgusting. We were regulars but about a year ago the situation changed drastically and everything in this restaurant became disgusting. The entire time we sat in this restaurant we watched rats roam between the dining tables. My friends and I found gross things and gross hair in our food for the third time.

The Uel is basically one of the places where I spent my young adulthood. Between 5 and 8 p.m. I was there almost every weekend and also on Wednesdays. When money was tight, I sometimes smuggled in beer, and in financially good times I even had dinner included, the Bolognese back then remained strictly under 10 DM. This time I didn't eat anything after years of abstinence, but Füchschen Alt and the service were good, as was the charm that the shop had in the 80s. Gladly again.

Die Uel ist quasi einer der Orte, in der ich mein junges Erwachsenenalter verbracht habe. Zwischen 17-25 war ich fast jedes Wochenende und auch mittwochs dort. Wenn das Geld knapp war, habe ich auch schon mal Bier mit eingeschmuggelt, in finanziell guten Zeiten war sogar Abendessen drin, die Bolognese blieb damals eisern unter 10DM. Gegessen habe ich diesmal nach Jahren der Abstinenz nichts, Füchschen Alt und Service waren jedoch gut, dazu der Charme der dem Laden auch schon in den 80ern anhing. Gerne wieder.

Rustic German restaurant. We were there on a Saturday lunchtime and the waiters were almost entirely occupied with themselves. The food was good. Portions are filling.

The four of us visited the Zur Uel brewery on a Friday evening to drink a tasty Füchschen Alt and eat something hearty. The service was friendly, attentive and quick, so the beer replenishment worked brilliantly. The dishes we ordered, such as pork knuckle and schnitzel, were tasty, the portion sizes were absolutely sufficient for us starving men and the price-performance ratio was more than okay.

Just two doors down from the much bigger, busier and incredibly loud Fuchschen, this is a great place to unwind. You can actually have a conversation with your table companions, and the staff normally brings your drinks within a minute. Expect a proper meal the way you'd like to eat it at home. Small beer only 2 euros, hard to beat.

Uriger Laden abseits der Touristenströme. Angeboten wird die typisch deutsche Küche. Aber gerade das will gelernt sein. Fachkräfte sind derzeit halt überall rar. Preise sind ok. Hervorragendes Bier.

Echte Duitse eet tent. Aanrader als ervaring. Geen hoogstaande luxe tent maar basic Duitse eetlocatie die je eigenlijk moet bezoeken.

Het was vroeger een brouwerij en nu een restaurant. De slechtste schnitzel ooit gegeten en vreselijk slechte wijn. Wat een teleurstelling.

My twin brother and I were pub hopping down Ratinger Straße and decided to drop into Zur Uel ,been here before on previous holidays to Dusseldorf, always had a good time and so it proved on our latest visit. I loved the look of this pub, interior is as traditional as it gets, a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, dark wood features abound throughout this pub, eclectic decor and furnishings including plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Ratinger Straße. We sat at the serving bar were two altbiers from Brauerei Fuchschen were deposited in front of us,these were served in excellent condition ,we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. A big fan of this famous altbier, a dark,slightly malty beer bursting with taste and very easy to drink especially when served freezing cold as in this pub, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and sat with my twin brother, best beer companion in the world. We really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to Zur Uel we had a great time. Zur Uel is easy to locate along Ratinger Straße, a street and area teeming with pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants. Opening hours are; Monday to Thursday, 11am till 1am. Friday & Saturday, 11am till 2am. Sunday, 11am till 9pm. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Zur Uel on Ratinger Straße is a brilliant bar and restaurant that offers a fantastic food and drinks range and was one of the many pubs/bars and restaurants on this brilliant street we visited on our four day holiday in this superb city. This is a superb bar and restaurant with an excellent interior with nice furnishing's and nice decor and excellent fixture's and nice feature's throughout the whole interior and excellent seating area's and to top it all off superb staff who make you feel welcome in here especially on a cold day. We visited here mid-afternoon and this bar and restaurant was just starting to get very busy but we managed to get a table where we had a few Brauerei Füchschen Altbier a superb Düsseldorf beer which were served in perfect condition and where well priced considering the place we were in. This is a fantastic bar and restaurant thats in a fantastic area of Düsseldorf and is well worth visiting and very easy to locate from the U-Bahn stop at D-Tonhalle/Ehrenhof it's a short walk.(This is my 1st review of the Zur Uel). When you first enter the café, it looks a bit old and ran out but we gave it a try based off the reviews here and it did not disappoint! We all ordered a shnitzel and it the food was absolutely delicious. I dare to say it was even better than in the restaurants we visited the days after this café. It also came with a small seperate salad bowl which we didn't get in other places. The price was also very cheap! If you want to have great food for a great price, this definitely is a good place! The only downside was the fact that the only toilet stall in the men's restroom had literally no door, it was picked out. If you had to do a number 2, you we're out of luck...

Wir waren am frühen Abend hier und haben Muscheln auf mediterrane und auf rheinische Art bestellt. Leider wurden wir ziemlich enttäuscht. Die Qualität der Muscheln war ok, die Zubereitung leider so gar nicht. Ich habe noch nie so geschmacklich langweilige, weil fade Muscheln gegessen. Auch der Unterschied zwischen den beiden Gerichten war verhältnismäßig klein. Die Portionen waren ausreichend, wobei 2 kleine Schwarzbrotecken meiner Meinung nach zu wenig sind. Der Service war super.

Das Essen war super lecker mit total freundlicher Bedienung.

Immer wieder schön dort. Etwas abseits vom Zentrum der Altstadt auf der Ratinger Straße. Daher nicht so viele Touristen, was ganz angenehm ist. Das Essen ist einfach und eher deutsche Küche, ohne Schnörkel und Chi Chi, aber lecker. Die Auswahl nicht riesig, aber jeder kann hier etwas finden. Das Bier ist lecker und die Atmosphäre chillig. Ein paar Sitzkissen draußen auf den Bänken wären toll, zumindest wenn man länger sitzt.
