Very good. I like that sort of thing. In Upper Bavaria, we call that an economy.

Best vibes! The best brewery in town, great beer, food wasn’t top par but was good! The waiter Bill, the Greek guy, made it even more memorable. Cheers to Bill!

We experienced the local beer, very tasty and worth a visit.

We went there for goose dinner before Christmas, but unfortunately the atmosphere (very loud) wasn't really ideal for conversation. The goose wasn't very tasty either! The goose leg was very, very dry and cold – not as delicious as we'd expected from traditional brewery fare! However, for many tourists, it might be sufficient and an experience to dine there. Like in some breweries, they don't offer soft drinks, which is a shame!

As a family, I brushed up on my German so we wouldn't look too much like French tourists and avoid getting yelled at by the waiters, as many reviews mention. Well... everything went very well, we easily found a table for four, the waiter was cool and spoke English if needed, the food was decent, the frankfurters were very good, and the sausage roll (mettbrotchen) was too. Different rooms and atmospheres everywhere, a real maze! :) The only slight disappointment: my glass of beer (very good) was empty and, contrary to custom, it didn't refill... So, I stayed sober with just one drink. :)

Nice brewery, I think one of the most authentic ones . You can eat things that are not common in more touristic places, I think , and that maybe are from old times, like boiled eggs and bread from wasted cereal (check photos) and picked gherkins. Also with local beer and waiters takes note of how many you've drink in the coasters. Remember that waiters will keep offering you those small glasses of fresh beer ...very dangerous ;-) ...you can say no hahahahaha

It was a truly wonderful experience. The traditional Düsseldorf beer was the best I've ever had. The Haxen was also impressive, with its crispy crust and tender flesh. The schnitzel, a sausage served with curry, was also delicious. I especially enjoyed the automatic beer ordering system and the way you pay by writing down your order on a beer stand. It was packed and the table turnover wasn't fast, but I was lucky enough to find a table right away. And it was a rare treat in cold Germany, so it was warm.

Spacious place, good food, and great beer; however, the service is terrible. The waiters are extremely rude. And although they claim to accept cash only, there is no notice about this anywhere in the establishment. In the end, they do accept card payments (they have a card machine), but they demanded an absurd €15 fee to accept payment by credit card.

Editor's Note: I noticed the tall waiter with the hairspray was better, while the shorter, slightly balding older man was not. Please be discerning. The food and drinks were delicious. I saw some reviews saying the waiters were rude, but the waiter I encountered was quite nice and didn't ask for a tip. Perhaps it varies from person to person.

Rustic, cozy, blunt waiters, down-to-earth food...just as it should be.

Orders aren't taken, they walk away halfway through, bring you something, and then they start asking for it. The menu is ripped from your hands, the wrong order is brought, and one of the waiters is constantly trying to get a tip. Beers are half full and nothing special. Christmas rush or not, act normal when you're charging top dollar.

The waiters were very rude and didn't listen to your orders, just bringing whatever you wanted. The place smelled sour, and the beer was actually subpar. Such a shame.

We were sightseeing in Düsseldorf. A tour guide recommended we try the local beer at this brewery. The beer is great. But as we were leaving, we were harassed by a gentleman at the next table who told us to go away and showed us the middle finger. Explicit xenophobia

I don't drink beer, so I don't know about the food, but the food was decently tasty. The Haxe was soft and fluffy on the outside, and the goulash was deliciously gooey. The food also seemed to arrive within about two minutes of ordering. Only one person in our group ordered beer, and there was no comment. If you didn't put a piece of paper on your empty (or almost finished) beer cup, they'd bring it to you without a word and charge you extra. I was a little worried because there were a lot of reviews about racism, but thankfully I didn't experience any. The waiter was hard-working, but he was a bit blunt. He was blunt to everyone, lol. He smiled for the first time when I tipped him (cash was required). There's a restroom in the basement, and it was clean.

If you're looking for a cozy atmosphere, this isn't the place for you. The next table was reprimanded for drinking slowly ("Sitting for an hour and one beer, oh man!"). I started with a Hosen Helles, and when I switched back to an Altbier, the waiter simply asked dryly, "Have you come to your senses yet?" That's exactly how it should be at Uerige. 5 stars!

The food at Ueriges was absolutely delicious and fresh. The pork knuckle was crispy, the cabbage perfectly seasoned, the fried potatoes superb – and the waiter was funny. It was a real pleasure to be able to enjoy traditional German food for a change. Highly recommended!

Unfriendly waiter, shouts extremely loudly in your ear, foul smell throughout the entire store, not recommended.

Really bad service today. The apple spritzer I ordered never arrived, and the water was unacceptably late. Today, September 29, 2023, unfriendly service again. That used to be rare. One wonders what's going on? Today, December 16, 2025, excellent service. Apparently, it all depends on the waiter on duty. The rating has therefore been adjusted upwards.

Unfortunately, only two stars. I ordered a schnitzel with fries and mayo. I was told twice that there were neither fries nor mayo. They also didn't have ketchup. My draft soda had an expiration date of November 25th. I simply pointed this out to the server, but she didn't seem interested. So, I reluctantly opted for the venison goulash. The goulash was excellent! When I went to pay, I was greeted extremely rudely again, and only then was I informed that card payments were only accepted for amounts over €50. Only 2/5 stars because of the service! I definitely won't be coming back…

The beer and the ambiance was nice, but the service is horridly unfriendly. They also only take cash even though they have a card payment machine.

The altbier was the best. It wasn't super refreshing because I was carrying it around, but I'd love to drink it again!

They just added a €5 tip without us even asking. So be careful when paying! My drink was also past its sell-by date.

Already with the entrance at the restaurant noticed that the waiters were very unfriendly / stressed to each other but more important also to their guests. (which actually “pays” their bill. Never experienced this behavior as a guest from a restaurant. Respect for the hard and busy work the waiters had to do their job, but a little bit relax, friendly and hospitality to the guests would have been welcomed. We were there today (mid-December). We were served expired draft soda (see pictures). The response: "We don't have time to discuss it right now." Serving expired drinks is unacceptable. And ignoring it after being asked about it is even worse.

Very unpleasant staff, too pushy, doubts customer orders...hopefully the food is better than the drink selection.

Card payments over €50 – what's going on? It wasn't clear, and the waiter started being rude. Absolutely unacceptable! If you don't have cash and don't want to be yelled at, you're better off going somewhere else. What a shame!

Great atmosphere, nice beer and good food!

A fantastic, iconic bar in Düsseldorf. In summer, the outdoor seating area is a huge place to meet people. Simply brilliant.

I came here 10 years ago with some German colleagues and had a wonderful time. I left Italy yesterday with my wife and very young daughter to visit the Christmas markets in Düsseldorf, and I decided to try the delicious Alt Beer once again. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a pleasant pre-Christmas experience with my family turned into a nightmare. The staff was very rude to us; they forced us into a table, and right away we heard the term Italienisch used in a derogatory manner, as if we were being inconvenienced. For the first time in our lives, we felt discriminated against and treated badly. After this unpleasant atmosphere, we decided to leave and pay the bill. When paying, we asked for a receipt and were told it was only available upon request. My response was no problem. After a minute, as we were leaving, they brought it to us, perhaps out of fear. What can I say? We'll never return, but beyond this aspect, I find it incredible that certain forms of discrimination still exist in the world. More simply: “we were not Germans”!!

We visited Uerige in Düsseldorf twice, and both experiences were memorable. The first time, we tried to go for dinner, but it was very crowded, so we decided to stay in the back section just for a beer. The atmosphere is authentic, lively, and very welcoming—perfect for enjoying a good traditional German beer. The next day, we returned intending to try the food, and it didn't disappoint. We ordered the pork knuckle, which was absolutely delicious, tender, and full of flavor. The sauerkraut salad didn't quite win me over, but I recognize that's more a matter of personal taste; I completely understand why many people love it. Everything else, from the side dishes to the beers, was excellent. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere remains a classic must-visit for anyone in Düsseldorf. We will definitely return whenever we have the chance.

Terrible experience, unfriendly waiters, if you don't order beer, which is the only thing worth it, you ask for water, they bring it sparkling and already poured into the glass, plus they add the tip to the bill and don't give you a receipt, the first thing they tell you is that it's cash only, however, German people in front of us paid by card, a disappointment 🫤

While I personally don't like the beer, they have other drinks available. The atmosphere is exceptionally beautiful, and I highly recommend it in Düsseldorf.

This was my very last attempt to place a normal drink order at Uerige! Last Friday, the four of us were out and about and wanted to make a quick drink stop at Uerige, so we ordered three Altbiers and one Coke. The waiter reacted very rudely and said they didn't have any American drinks. It wasn't the first time we'd encountered an unfriendly waiter at Uerige, and it wasn't even that busy. The sheer audacity of not allowing us to order anything other than Altbier is unacceptable. Not every adult drinks alcohol, and some might even need to be able to drive. Is this how you treat customers? Unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've been treated so badly. Even ordering an apple spritzer for my 11-year-old son a few months ago was only possible after lengthy discussions and unfriendly remarks. Luckily, there are other breweries in Düsseldorf where you receive normal service, and I recommend everyone visit them. Uerige? Never again!

Three friends and I spent a few hours there playing cards starting at noon. The delicious beer always arrived promptly, and the home-style cooking was a perfect culinary accompaniment. The portion of the lunch special (cabbage rolls) was very generous, and the goulash soup was also tasty. We also found the sharp-tongued and quick-witted staff amusing. Everything came together perfectly.

What's the point of going to a brewery where you get dumped without a 10% tip? Sad; in this day and age, zero stars is simply not enough. Sad.

The Uerige Alt Bier stays in my heart, best beer ever! The currywurst I ordered was also very good, but I didn't have a main dish because the portion was ginormous!! Great value if you ask me👌 The atmosphere was top-notch, I like how they kept serving beer to you non-stop!

Rude staff, look carefully at what they put on your bill or they will scam you.

Location is nice. Uerige Pork knuckle is huge and very crispy. However, Frankfurter sausages have nothing special except of a boiled sausage and a piece of cold hard bread🤷‍♀️ The mustard is very good. Not a fun of beer but decided to try and surprisingly it was good.

We usually visit every year and love the beers they brew themselves. The venison goulash and duck dishes are also amazing... Prices are reasonable, averaging between 20 and 30 EUR... Special thanks to the waitress Katya, she's a wonderful woman.

I sat with strangers for more than 20 minutes, and the waiter ignored me, so I got up and left.

Upon entering, you see a sign listing what they don't offer. For example, schnapps. At first glance, you might think it's a joke. NO!! The menu is extremely limited. They don't even offer a Coke! "Of course," there's no coffee either. The only alternative to Altbier is water! You could maybe live with that. BUT... THEN COMES THE EXTREMELY UNFRIENDLY STAFF! You'll never experience anything like it! They obviously only live off tourists, whom they don't value. We actually wanted to eat, but quickly paid for the drinks from this extremely limited selection and found a place with good service. ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED!

Good food good restaurants but not good staff, not giving change, took €10 for granted.

Today was my first time at Uerige, but unfortunately the waiters were very unfriendly and disrespectful. Therefore, I would not recommend this pub.

Best experience in Düsseldorf. The waiter speaks Portuguese, Italian, and English, and kept the beer ice-cold at the table. Excellent service from Claudio... we will return.

A local institution much loved by residents, judging by the crowds on the terrace throughout the day. I didn't try the food, but the beer is probably the best alternative in town. The service is simple but very efficient. Be warned, in keeping with local tradition, the servers will keep refilling your glass until you refill it.

Compared to another brewery specializing in Fox Beer, we preferred the beer and pork knuckle at this place. The beer was a bitter hop-based wheat beer with a honey-like flavor. The waiter kept coming to refill our glasses, and if we wanted more, he'd mark the cup on the coaster. The pork knuckle had crispy skin and was delicious, but the meat wasn't dry. The combination of braising and roasting was excellent! The German gentleman at the next table watched us two Asians enjoying our meal, but he stopped us when we tried to dip the pork knuckle in mustard, saying it was only for sausages. We could only sneak a touch of mustard towards the end for a different flavor. Overall, it was a fantastic local German bar and food experience. Besides Little Tokyo, Düsseldorf also has many other delicious traditional German foods worth trying!

UERIGE is a Düsseldorf institution – if you're a beer lover, you have to stop by and have at least a couple of Altbiers. It's house-brewed beer – one of the many local "Brauereien" (breweries). An interesting fact: beer in Germany is preservative-free – a purity law from 1811. So be sure to visit these very typical places.

Top-notch currywurst, very friendly waiter, er, waitress. The beer is also delicious, of course. Even the non-alcoholic version.

It's tasty, but the rudeness behind the counter is annoying. It has nothing to do with "typical Düsseldorf," and I don't know who's supposed to be impressed by it, but hey, it happens more often at the longest bar. It annoys me, but the tourists seem to love it, otherwise they'd probably have stopped doing it by now. 😉

Food is correct but average, the atmosphere is very familial but can be a bit noisy. Ordering was also a bit difficult (error in order), they work in chain, they are always busy and don’t really seem to care. Btw they only accept cash below 50€… the receipt wasn’t given before paying, only a written note that seemed to be 49,9 but ended up paying 10€ as tip to get to 50€. It was a bit unattended so didn’t like that situation.

The Uerige is a place where I've been drinking my Alt for 54 years. One can argue about the quality of the food—we're talking about brewery food here—and complain about the snottiness of the waiters, but one can't doubt the excellent quality of the beer. But for the past few years, the glasses here have been very poorly filled (see various comments, including photos). This has happened to me repeatedly, too. A complaint on my part is met with the words "Should the glass be filled even more?"—that's still one of the friendliest reactions—and loud grumbling and unfriendliness from the waiter. Only when I point out the calibration mark and the fill level, which is a good 1.5 to 3 cm below it—and my remark that I'm also expected to pay the "full" price for the glass of Alt, does my glasses get almost correctly filled. However, this isn't true for my friends at the table, who didn't complain. Their glasses remain incorrectly filled. Apparently, neither the owner nor the management feel it necessary to respond to such criticism. My conclusion after 54 years: I go with my friends to the Uerige at Oberbilker Markt, for example, where I get full glasses (and cheaper than in the old town), better food, and friendly staff. Perhaps the public order office should take a look at the Uerige. Hasso Treletzki

Awfull place, the workers are so rude. Never go again.

The interior is interesting, but we waited for the waiter for half an hour; he was too busy. When he came, he said the kitchen was closed. We left hungry. I don't recommend it.

The pork knuckle was very good. The sauce was delicious, and the skin was super crispy. 3 beers, a pork knuckle, and a schnitzel for €69.

Shitty place! The service is terrible and they throw you out like it's nothing... DON'T GO!

Extremely disappointing experience. The food was below expectations — served cold, I ordered the roasted suckling pig. The real issue, however, was the staff’s behavior. When I went to pay by card, one staff member rudely said, “If you don’t have cash, leave Germany.” I was shocked by such unprofessional conduct. To make matters worse, he insisted that I pay for an extra beer as his tip. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable in any hospitality setting. I paid just to avoid further confrontation, but I will definitely not be returning and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Waiters did not bring us food for 2 hours! Extremely rude and unprofessional.
