Their beer is a bit strong but it has a very nice taste and atmosphere 🍻

I decided to stay in Dusseldorf for a few days on my way home from Norway as Dusseldorf airport is a major airline hub . This was pleasant, beautiful, and I had a beer and a tasty traditional pork knuckle dinner. It is full of classic scenes wrought in stained glass windows, comfortable chairs, and the service was polite. I saw that it was primarily full of locals, families and friend groups enjoying an evening. I understand that this is the oldest operating brewery in the city.

Great brewery and beer, food ok

Maybe we’re just not used to it, but this place felt very disorganized. If you’re less than 6, you can’t make a reservation. They tell you to just go there. We did, but it was incredibly chaotic. You have to find a table yourself l, so basically if ‘fight’ with everyone else waiting for any table that is freed up. We also had to wait a very long time (1h +) for our food because of some kitchen mix up. Then at the end we found out we can only pay cash so we had to go to an ATM, although in the about section you see mentioned that you can pay by card. The food and beer were good, but the rest of the stuff kind of ruined it for us.

I visited this place while being on beer tour! 🍺 The outdoor seating at the back is such a cozy and relaxed area, perfect for enjoying their famous Altbier. The beer is smooth, refreshing. Nice experience in the summer!

Honestly the worst place in the Alt Stadt. The most unfriendly staff in the city. Aggressive and have no service skills. There are much better places.

This is a place where you continuously drink 250ml of something similar to strong dark beer. The food is also delicious.

Were here on a Saturday lunchtime for a two alt. We didn't see a single properly tapped beer. All were well below the calibration mark. The difference, if you apply the rule of three, 0.2 to 0.25 amounts to a whopping 40 cents that you are being cheated out of. Update January 25: still poorly tapped beer We had to specifically ask twice for a decent tap, which was then fulfilled. Sorry Ueriges, but that doesn't work

Personal nicht kompetent: Sie rufen Sie pfeifen und reagieren unhöflich. Am Ende des Essens bat ich darum, mit Karte zu bezahlen (150 Euro). Der Kellner sagte mir, wo der Geldautomat sei, an dem ich das Geld abheben könne, mit Kommentaren wie "in Ihrem Land lebt man nicht ohne Bargeld", und ich sollte anmerken, dass die anderen Leute an meinem Tisch im Restaurant warteten, während ich das Geld abhob, es bestand also keine Fluchtgefahr. Ich bin ein Universitätsprofessor, der zu Vorlesungen in ganz Europa eingeladen wird, und in London, Kopenhagen und sogar Rom hatte ich nie ein Problem damit, diese Gebühren mit einer Karte zu bezahlen, zumal wir im 21. Das Essen ist gut, aber ich warte immer noch auf meine Quittung, nachdem ich bezahlt habe. Die Besitzer sollten ihr Personal wirklich sorgfältiger auswählen, sonst würde es mich nicht überraschen, wenn die Leute, nachdem sie das Lokal einmal ausprobiert haben, buchstäblich auf die andere Straßenseite gehen, um einen höflicheren Service und mehr Zahlungsmöglichkeiten zu bekommen

Probably the best “Alt Bier” in Dusseldorf

Definitely the most traditional brewery in the city. The beer is much bitterer than the other beers, the menu isn't as big but everything fits together. A must-visit for every stay in Düsseldorf.

Ambiance is ok, service seems rather annoyed. The portions are okay, too small for my taste for the price

It was just like you would imagine a typical old pub to be. Without much fuss... Fast service, beer and the small side dishes were very good! Now I think almost 2.90 is quite expensive for an old one, but of course we will come back

They kept serving us their bitter brown beer but we didn’t ask for it.. Food was alright but they didn’t want to serve any other drinks than the beer which tasted horrible. Felt like a tourist trap..

The only two positives about this brewery are the location and the beer. The internal space is divided into many different rooms, where you can breathe a true brauhaus atmosphere. The altbier they serve is very good: strong but very pleasant. For the rest everything is a failure, starting from the service, with rude staff who respond in German when asked a question in English. One of these very nice people, in addition to making us wait a long time to serve us, also tried to make us pay for 2 for a dish ordered (and made) for 1 person. They don't accept cards but only cash and they don't give receipts. The food is poor: very cold roast beef served with baked potatoes instead of fried, as it was written. The cheese was served with a horrible salad, one of those ready-made ones in a bag. Learn some manners and some respect for your customers. And pay your taxes.

Very rustic atmosphere, very drinkable beer, the waitress was a bit too businesslike for me and sometimes brought out a new beer when the first one was still a quarter full. The glasses are only three quarters full no matter how you turn or turn them. Still a nice spot and worth a visit.

A unique experience! An aggressive waiter, visibly annoyed by foreign tourists...it's not easy to order if you don't speak German! The setting is typical, the meal average and pay attention to the bill! And if you don't tip, watch out for the grimace and of course add a cash only payment... never again for our part but we will remember it..

I read a lot about unfriendly staff, but I totally disagree with that!! We were treated very friendly and if we had any questions they were answered with great friendliness. If we are in Düsseldorf again we will definitely visit again. And the beer is super tasty!!

I had high hopes for this pub in Düsseldorf, but it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. First, the beer was extremely bitter—not what I expected at all, especially in a place renowned for its beer culture. To make matters worse, the service was appalling. They don’t accept contactless payments, which in 2024 feels ridiculous. I was told to go exchange money at a nearby ATM, while my girlfriend was rudely ordered to stay in the pub, making us feel like criminals over their unclear payment policy. Nowhere in the pub does it clearly state that card payments are only accepted for amounts over 50 euros. When we finally paid, the waiter didn’t even ask if we wanted our change back. He treated us rudely throughout the experience, continuing to speak German despite clearly knowing we spoke English, making the situation even more awkward. This entire visit left us feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. A terrible experience, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Avoid it if you value good service and transparency.

A very strange establishment. The interior seems interesting, but it looks untidy. Service is slow and unfriendly. As for the food, the pork knuckle was incredibly dry and difficult to chew. And beer is not for everyone. Moreover, payment is only in cash, as in the Middle Ages. I would not recommend visiting.

The staff were so rude. They sneered at me and my family when we walked in. It was lunch time during the Christmas market. Not busy. Your nightmare image of the rude arrogant German. So sad really as every where else the people and staff were 180 degrees opposite. Shockingly rude and I'll mannered.

The waiter came by several times without refilling us... After 30 minutes, we decided to go to another brewery. The beer was excellent though.

Terrible experience. Older waiter (owner?) in his 60's treated us extremely rudely as American tourists. We were polite, ordered the best we could in German (we learned the language just for this trip) and then I was told after ordering the käse spaetzle and trying to order the pickled eggs "NO, you have enough". I was shocked. Have never been told I could not order something on the menu. And this was the only appetizer we tried to order. I politely said that I would just like to try it and was then told "you can try next time" to which I responded that I was only there this one day and he just walked away muttering in German. He never did bring the eggs. Such a disappointment since I had researched how to prepare and eat them and was truly excited about trying them. He ruined my afternoon in Dusseldorf and left a horrible impression. I was just shocked. The käse spaetzle was good, but not worth the disrespectful treatment by the staff. Maybe if my husband had asked for them he would have been more successful? This miserable man seems to think it's ok to tell women and paying customers what they can and can't have.

You cannot miss the roast knuckle (uerige haxe) and the alt beer served in this traditional Düsseldorf brewery. Furthermore, the way of working is very curious, pouring beers without stopping until you put the coaster on top of the glass to warn that he doesn't want any more!!! A typical place and also not very expensive. Totally recommended.

Nightcap with 14 people... We weren't allowed to order coke or water. Instead, we were advised not to drink anything. So we did and left. You easily lost 150/200 thalers. How stupid can you be?!

Well, I'm a Düsseldorf girl. After mulled wine and the like, we finally wanted a tastier cold Uerige. But I'm a slow drinker and eater. So I brought my leftovers with me, my five friends were leftover free. Nevertheless, the basket refused to give at least my 5 friends a beer. I was forced to To put the Kabüffke alone at the trash can to eat my leftovers so that the other five could get a beer, which is what I wanted afterwards. I found that really beneath all dignity.

What super UNfriendly staff, to the point of being rude...... Because it is busy during the Christmas market, the staff does not have to respond to customers. Once and never again. Too bad we can't give 0 stars....

We wanted to try this place and we had to leave cos the waiter was so rude. What a shame we really wanted to try a traditional place… they don’t deserve tourist money. Also be aware it is cash only.

Do make reservations before you came here, specially if you have a large group of people We came here to have lunch after our morning Christmas market tour from Cologne! It was a very cold and windy day but soon s as you step into the restaurant you felt the warmth from the atmosphere! Due to the reservations, all eight of us were quickly seated! Beer was ordered and very quickly delivered! The beer is fresh and crispy, very easy to drink! And if you don’t put the coasters on top of your glass and beer will just keep coming! They also just use a coaster to track how many glasses of beers you drink and check you out by that coaster on your table! Which it was very interesting! Sent from my iPhone

At first we were enthusiastic by the old brown looks of this place, however the communication and rudeness of the waiter completely ruined this experience. Without asking you receive beer on the table. At first this seems like great service, but if one of the visitors wants something else to drink you really have to push the waiter. Reluctantly you receive apple juice, because there is nothing else to drink. The beer is ok, especially after you had a few forced down your throat by the waiter. Then received multiple wrong main courses, due to the lack of communication. Taste was good enough and it was served pretty fast. Dessert takes ages to arrive, but in the meantime beer is served in high speed without asking, even if your glass is not empty yet. When it comes to payments, the waiter is really intimidating. Only visit this place if you are up for a continuous flow of beer and like to have arguments with the waiter.

Large brauhaus where the food is excellent value for money.

The alt is quite bitter and wasn't really my taste. The “Hosen Hell”, on the other hand, is a blast. Very tasty... The waitress really makes an effort to serve a cliché. We didn't try any food. Ambience rustic, quaint and cozy. Anyone who is in Düsseldorf should have been there at least once.

The food is delicious! The stew that goes with the roasted suckling pig is super delicious! The pork buns are delicious too!

Had a bite to eat on a Saturday afternoon. The place was quite full at that time. The waiters were correct but on the gruff side, very businesslike. Opted for the Schnitzel with local beer, meal was good, price quite reasonable. Setting is absolutely great, the brewery is literally in the restaurant.

Food too expensive for the quality you get. Nevertheless, the store is probably very busy due to its location. The staff also seems very relaxed due to the stress level there.

Tourist trap. They push their bitter beer on you. When our beer was almost empty, they put down 5 new beers for our group. When we urged them that we didn't order them and didn't want them, they told us it's standard practice and next time we need to put coasters on top of our glasses.

It's a real beer hall atmosphere, it's not obvious from the outside, but when you enter, there are different room concepts, you can go into its depths :) There are food and beer options. I added the November 2024 menu to the photos. I think you should definitely stop by and have a beer.

5 years ago we (2 couples) were here and based on the good and fun experience we went back. It was disappointing now. The atmosphere was very different. For example, at the time it was nice that the bell sounded every time a new barrel of beer was opened. It was nice to see a new wooden barrel of beer being put on the bar. Another point was that only 2 snacks could be obtained at the time. Now there is a choice of complete meals. For us, this made the atmosphere completely different and therefore less fun. The Altbier is as tasty as ever!

When we came the staff was vey rude and impatient. They barely look you in the eye and talk annoyed at anything you say. Don't care to explain properly their service and then when drinks were asked they push to take their beer of the house. They listen to them men but then don't ask the women and just bring beers for all. Then we had to pay in cash for under the 50 euro's, so they also work with black money. There was more annoyed costumers and no happy atmosphere at all.

It's just an institution in Düsseldorf. The ambience is of course impeccable because, in addition to the keys and foxes, it is the original, the waiters are super fast and on the ball, the food is home-style and delicious.

Die Köbesse waren "normal " unfreundlich. Das gehört hier zum Konzept und zu den Braugaststätten in Düsseldorf. Uns hat der Preis für das Altbier und das 1/2 - volle Glas geärgert, von denen wir jede Menge verkonsumiert haben. Eigentlich schade. Das Uerige sollte diese Masche nicht nötig haben.

We entered the premises and sat at the first table. We asked the waiter some things (if they had more beer in addition to altbier, what was the best place to eat, etc.) and he didn't answer us, it seemed like we were bothering us. The bill was €17, we gave €20 and we are still waiting for the return. Then we went inside to eat and things changed: good service, pleasant rooms and more than acceptable knuckle. We paid the food bill without problems and without surprises. The summary is that the place is typical and good, but there are some waiters who have tourismphobia and try to take advantage of it.

Service unfriendly, waiter doesn't see mistakes, reacts aggressively and ruins the whole evening. It's just a shame that one person can drag the whole restaurant into such a mess in my eyes. All because of a slip of the tongue.

Don't go! Leading them to the most expensive food, Since the woman couldn't eat all of Haksendo on her own, she asked her to order more from the menu. When paying, I kept asking for a receipt, but they wouldn't give it to me, and they kept asking for a tip. It came out to less than 30 euros, but they asked for 5 euros as a service and told me to pay in cash. It seems like the money is being turned around and used to patronize tourists. I hope this store goes out of business or undergoes a tax audit! Go and don't have an unpleasant experience like I did!

We dropped in for a drink. The bar man found us a table at back of pub. He brought us 2 beers without asking what we'd like to drink - I would've chosen wine tbh - but accepted the beer. As we finished those, he brought 2 more. When we went to pay, the manager literally yelled at us because we wanted to pay by card, he said that all bills under €50 must be paid in cash. His attitude was very upsetting. There were no notices and no one said beforehand. Very disappointing experience.

Typical brewery that you cannot miss. At first the waiter was unfriendly and at the end too… but once you know the system of how to order, everything will be fine! If you stay outside, that's where the atmosphere is and we loved it. When the friendly waiter with a grumpy face passes by with a tray full of glasses of beer (very good toast) you just have to gesture to him and indicate how many of you there are, then he will put the glasses for you and charge you immediately (I think 2.60 each one) and so on until you get tired. When you don't want any more rounds, if you're still chatting and gossiping, just put the coaster on top of the glass (it's your secret code). I will return!

Very bad experience, we were 4 colleagues and we were charged for 21 beers even though we drank 11. Feeling like we were constantly being ripped off, some servers were fake nice, others not nice at all. A tourist trap.

Traditional German food, no complaints! Food is fine and Atmosphere is good. Price is quite reasonable. A bit pity that I was kinda forced to tip,m. Tbh even wasn’t asked by the staff, I would also do tip, just don’t like to be forced. Also, Heard from my accompany that tip was even asked in bathroom by someone pushing the hand soap for you.
