UERIGE is a Düsseldorf institution – if you're a beer lover, you have to stop by and have at least a couple of Altbiers. It's house-brewed beer – one of the many local "Brauereien" (breweries). An interesting fact: beer in Germany is preservative-free – a purity law from 1811. So be sure to visit these very typical places.

Top-notch currywurst, very friendly waiter, er, waitress. The beer is also delicious, of course. Even the non-alcoholic version.

It's tasty, but the rudeness behind the counter is annoying. It has nothing to do with "typical Düsseldorf," and I don't know who's supposed to be impressed by it, but hey, it happens more often at the longest bar. It annoys me, but the tourists seem to love it, otherwise they'd probably have stopped doing it by now. 😉

Food is correct but average, the atmosphere is very familial but can be a bit noisy. Ordering was also a bit difficult (error in order), they work in chain, they are always busy and don’t really seem to care. Btw they only accept cash below 50€… the receipt wasn’t given before paying, only a written note that seemed to be 49,9 but ended up paying 10€ as tip to get to 50€. It was a bit unattended so didn’t like that situation.

The Uerige is a place where I've been drinking my Alt for 54 years. One can argue about the quality of the food—we're talking about brewery food here—and complain about the snottiness of the waiters, but one can't doubt the excellent quality of the beer. But for the past few years, the glasses here have been very poorly filled (see various comments, including photos). This has happened to me repeatedly, too. A complaint on my part is met with the words "Should the glass be filled even more?"—that's still one of the friendliest reactions—and loud grumbling and unfriendliness from the waiter. Only when I point out the calibration mark and the fill level, which is a good 1.5 to 3 cm below it—and my remark that I'm also expected to pay the "full" price for the glass of Alt, does my glasses get almost correctly filled. However, this isn't true for my friends at the table, who didn't complain. Their glasses remain incorrectly filled. Apparently, neither the owner nor the management feel it necessary to respond to such criticism. My conclusion after 54 years: I go with my friends to the Uerige at Oberbilker Markt, for example, where I get full glasses (and cheaper than in the old town), better food, and friendly staff. The interior is interesting, but we waited for the waiter for half an hour; he was too busy. When he came, he said the kitchen was closed. We left hungry. I don't recommend it.

Extremely disappointing experience. The food was below expectations — served cold, I ordered the roasted suckling pig. The real issue, however, was the staff’s behavior. When I went to pay by card, one staff member rudely said, “If you don’t have cash, leave Germany.” I was shocked by such unprofessional conduct. To make matters worse, he insisted that I pay for an extra beer as his tip. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable in any hospitality setting. I paid just to avoid further confrontation, but I will definitely not be returning and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Maybe because we're Japanese, the service was really bad and the food wasn't very good either. When I paid with a 50 euro note, the waiter casually took the change out of his breast pocket and threw it at me.

Just sat down with nine other men. A rude waiter who didn't appreciate us sitting a bit too far apart at the table started complaining and yelling at us to leave. He got up and left. What an incredibly arrogant guy. Never experienced anything like it before.

You don't have to go to the bar to order; the waiters go around the tables asking people who want a beer and write it down on the coasters. We didn't try the food; we're on a liquid diet, haha.

Avoid this tourist trap at all costs. We were charged €26 for just 2 beers and an apple juice, and they insisted on cash only. When we disputed the bill, no explanation or apology was offered, though we did eventually get €10 back. We nearly got scammed. Tourists, beware.

Very hostile service. The kitchen closes 2 hours before the bar and if you bring anything to eat at the outside tables they aggrssively tell you it's forbidden. 2 hours of beet service with no food is a very stupid business model. The server claimed some nonsense in broken englidh about requiring a reservation to pay by credit card, but the cashier relented took the payment. Atrocious customer service. Stay way. Go to schlussel way better eat at outside tables till closing very friendly service.

The beer is very good, among the best Alt in Düsseldorf. The waiters who served me and my table were unfriendly. One of our group doesn't drink alcohol and was criticized for this by the waiters, and his order for something non-alcoholic wasn't brought.

The two of us went to Uerigen today. The friendly waitress offered us a good seat, even though we had reservations. The beer is excellent anyway. We had schnitzel with fried potatoes and salad. Everything was fresh and beautifully prepared.

This was one of two breweries recommended to me and I visited here Monday lunchtime. The place was mostly empty with some locals, and I was led in by a waiter. I waited there for around 5 minutes for a waiter to come take the order and an old woman sitting near my hit the table with her fingers repeatedly, then pointing at me to leave presumably because of my race. Ended up going to the other brewery and that place was much nicer. Maybe it was just this one customer but I’d avoid this place if you aren’t white.

Great authentic food, with big portions. The place is very crowded and the serving can take a while. However the waiter is very friendly and fun too. The pork knuckle is big, crispy and tasty. They will keep refilling your beer if they saw your glass is a bit empty.

I liked it, they do it the old fashioned way, marking your beer mat with how many drinks you've had and then coming round and giving you as fresh glass until you say no more. It's E2.95 for a 200 ml measure so not cheap really but the bar is nice and well worth it as an experience. Alt bier is tasty though. Would recommend for a few drinks.

I wish I hadn't given it a star at all. I ordered a salad with fried potatoes, which was listed as vegetarian on the menu. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes came with bacon. Impossible!

A sweet Altbier. Very popular. There are tables here and there. It's busy, so the inside is full. Ordering food can be difficult, as it takes a while to come out. As you face it, the men's restroom is on the right, and the women's is on the left. There's a cleaning lady there, so you might think the women's restroom is there and go into the men's restroom on the right. But don't make that mistake.

We left without eating because there was no vegan food on the menu and we didn't like the service either.

Superb place with wonderful atmosphere. Good Düsseldorfer Altbier. Bockwürstchen 5 points. Unfortunately the Haxen did not meet the same standard, cold, even the mash. Uerige Salad with bratkartoffeln the same. The potatoes were not fried, only deep-fried. That's where the five disappeared. Service 5 points. Oh the environment, oh the beer.

They're serving some good stuff there. I was at Uerige again for the first time in 30 years, and it was as good and smooth as it was back then.

The Uerige Brewery was a little highlight for me on my trip to Düsseldorf. It's an old, cozy pub with plenty of space, really good food, and friendly waiters. The pork knuckle was truly delicious, and an Altbier made the dinner perfect. This pub is definitely worth a visit if you're in Düsseldorf!

The food and drinks were fine. But the service is truly disgraceful. I was traveling through Germany with a British friend and wanted to show the strangeness of my hometown. Afterward, she asked me, completely stunned, why the waiters were so rude and unfriendly. We were there at lunchtime. The waiter initially ignored us and cleared all the other tables. Eventually, he came over and his only words were, "Two beers?" to which we said no and ordered something else, immediately receiving a confused look. Then I wanted to order something to eat, and he walked off to clear tables again, calling over his shoulder, "later." I called our order after him. We sat there for 30 minutes. The waiter was standing at the counter with other waiters, chatting and telling jokes. At one point, he walked past our table, and I stopped him and asked if our food would be coming soon. He said we hadn't ordered anything. We should have actively called him back to order something. We didn't do it—our fault (the dining room was completely empty except for us). When it came time to pay, we were told that card payments weren't possible. A short time later, the manager apparently allowed us to pay by card, and all the waiters stood around us while we paid. It was all very strange. We haven't experienced anything like this in our two weeks of traveling in Germany, neither in Cologne, nor in Bavaria, nor in the eastern part of the country.

The beer is tasty and unusual, with a pleasant bitterness. They said payment only in cash, but I didn't have any. They took me inside and there was a cash register and a contactless terminal, everything worked fine, but they looked at me so much that I wanted to apologize for not having cash with me.

Quaint Brewery The brewery is located in the heart of Düsseldorf's action. Just a few meters down to the Rhine. It's a quaint but comfortably furnished brewery. The service is fast...as soon as you arrive, the beer is on your table. The beer tastes really good. There are a few standing tables in front of the bar, where you can watch all the action...almost like a movie theater. Parking isn't available here. But you can park in the surrounding parking garages.

The staff is quite helpful. They try every possible way to get you to pay in cash, even offering a discount of a few euros. Otherwise, if you pay by card, they try to top it up with various tips... even though the bill might be 60-80 euros. The shank was a real ball of fatty meat with tons of butter, and the rest was very heavy. The prices are very high, but still in line with the local average. I personally don't know if I'd recommend it. There are much better options out there. If I ever come back, I hope I change my mind.

A great soulful place, it's not a restaurant or a cafe, it's a pub with all its attributes and, accordingly, a style of decoration - the main thing here is beer, but the food was also very tasty, especially the steak.. I liked the beer, they only sell their own varieties that they brew themselves. I liked the service, a lot of waiters, they notice that the beer is over and bring new ones.. they were very surprised that I drank only two glasses 😂. The price is quite acceptable. I liked it, I've been there a couple of times already. 👍 Waiters with a signature sharp humor and charisma, if you want to complain about their slight rudeness, then remember the name of the pub ... Uerige - which means grumpy, quarrelsome. this is history ☝️🙂

To those giving 5 stars… really? 😂 Either tiny portions or huge plates of bad food, beer counts that don’t match what you drank, and then they sneak in their own 10% tip. That’s 5 stars for you? 🤦🏻 1 star!

Dark beer is standard. This place also offers meals and snacks. The German pork knuckle and sauerkraut are especially popular. It's very crowded, and most people stay up long after drinking.

Water is the same price as beer 🍻 Dear beer and authenticity lovers, this place is a German institution well-known to locals. Just look at the drinks and the restaurant's crowds. A wide selection of drinks, but also a wide selection of typical dishes, all very generous, which is a real treat! However, the place isn't very comfortable and the decor is rustic; just look at the crowd standing outside drinking. Still no free water... What a shame. @lvs.kid

"The Köbes is a unique and extremely quick-witted fellow who reigns supreme in breweries and pubs" ...that's what I've been used to since my youth and enjoy on cozy pub evenings in my hometown of Düsseldorf. What we had to experience at the Uerige on April 5, 2025, was unfortunately very unpleasant. After the first Köbes (he doesn't really deserve that term) only very reluctantly fulfilled his task of bringing beer, his temporary successor (named Dennis) completely overstepped the mark and took the already served Uerige Altbier from the table just because we "cheeky" asked for a second lid. Unbelievable and not particularly conducive to the mood on my birthday evening. So, we'll have enough for the next few years at the Uerige, hoping for better and more genuine Köbes who, ideally, enjoy their job and do it as usual... Fortunately, it still works at other microbreweries in Düsseldorf...

Great place to be in with friends for beer. There beer is authentic dark and bit bitter in taste but very smooth.

In my opinion, the Alt is the best in town; I certainly like it. The outside is beautiful both in summer and winter, and inside it's a venerable brewery with a fitting ambiance. I'd rather eat somewhere else next time. The schnitzel is quite small and (and this is completely unacceptable in my opinion) made from boneless pork chops. Pork schnitzel is made from pork loin without the chain and properly trimmed. Chops have a much too strong flavor and too much fat. It was absolutely terrible. The fried potatoes and side salad were good, but I'm not going to pay €22.90 and €19.90, respectively, for them.

They don't have regular water, or you have to drink beer, juice, or sparkling water, and if you don't, you can't hold it in. Shared tables, which, well, doesn't matter up to a point. They don't accept cards, and it doesn't say so anywhere. We had to go to an ATM to get cash, and when we came back, it took them ages to come and get our money. If I had known all this, I would have looked elsewhere. Not at all recommended.

Uerige—what's up, have you forgotten how to tap? Not the first time, and today (August 9th) again, the glasses are "basically" miserable, below the gauge mark. It happens sometimes, but when even strangers at the table notice the same thing, we get into a nice conversation about it. 🤦‍♂️ There's definitely "beer" in there. And yes, the beer is delicious and cold. And why didn't I say anything? Have you ever argued with a waiter on a Saturday night? I won't let myself. 😉

Unfortunately, it was a disaster. The waiter was unfriendly and snippy, and he didn't respond to my "good day." He wanted to cash in straight away, which was no problem, understandable during a shift change. However, when he decided how much his tip should be, I lost my sympathy.

The waiter was the best, the beer was authentic and delicious. Mettbrötchen and the atmosphere were great, the currywurst wasn't that great, but the waiter made us forget about it. Great potato salad

A classic when you are in Düsseldorf

This is a long-established brewery in Düsseldorf, Germany, founded in 1862. Here you can enjoy "Urige Alt," a quintessential Altbier with a hoppy aroma that's popular in the region. Freshness is key for this Altbier, so it's served in small, narrow 200-250ml glasses so you can drink it while it's still cold. When you finish your last sip and place it on the table, a waiter will quickly replace it with a new glass. Unless you place a coaster on your glass to signal that you're done, the beer will keep coming. This wankosoba-like system is the same in neighboring Cologne. This brewery, known for its fresh Altbier, is always bustling with locals and tourists alike. There are also many tables lined up outside the brewery, often filled with customers. Highly recommended!

We were here a while ago. Our waiter was an unpleasant young man. When we started our order—a black pudding—he cheekily asked, "Do you even know what this is?" If we hadn't known what it was, we would have asked the waiter or simply not ordered it. Then we had to wait half an hour for our food, even though the order wasn't large. When we asked the waiter how long it would be, he simply replied, "I don't work in the kitchen." Yes, but you do work here! In the end, when we paid, we naturally didn't want to tip such a rude waiter. As we waited for our change (about 5 euros), he closed his wallet and wished us a nice evening. So the service was not friendly at all—zero points for that! But the food and beer themselves were delicious and reasonably priced.

A must for Altbier fans Whenever I'm in Düsseldorf, a visit to the Uerige brewery is a must for me. The Altbier is one of the best you can get in the city – freshly tapped, robust in flavor, and with real character. I'd especially like to recommend Saturdays: They serve pea soup (Ähzezupp) – and it's truly exceptional! Hearty, creamy, and with a special twist: It includes ham hock. This gives the soup an extra depth and sets it apart from other pea soups in Düsseldorf. For me personally, this is the best pea soup you can get in the Old Town. I also think it's great that the recipe is publicly available on "Uerige-online." I've already made it myself – with a little time and patience, it turns out really well. But, of course, it still tastes best in person, with a fresh Alt beer in hand and the typical Uerige atmosphere all around. And a word about the atmosphere: The waiters who bring the beer there are typically Düsseldorf—a bit gruff, but in a charming way. It's simply part of the atmosphere here and makes the visit all the more authentic. So don't be alarmed—it's part of the charm! Highly recommended!

It was time together with part of our family 🫠.... a boat trip on the Rhine 👏and then my son said... now we're going to have a nice meal... 👍 And suddenly we were standing in front of the Uerige Brauhaus... Generally authentic,nice place. If you’re a tourist,it’s important to know that the beer glasses fly away as soon as you finish it and immediately you got another one😅 so make sure you make the right count how much did you drink. We were 6 at the table,asked to split the bill, the waiter didn’t tell there is only a possibility of cash payments if you split,with the card it’s minimum of 50€. And his answer was that it’s like that in Germany 😅 no other place did tell us the same thing the whole week spent in Dusseldorf.

The basics of politeness need to be reviewed! No hello, no explanation of how the bar works, an aggressive and unpleasant waiter... Working in a tourist spot means putting up with tourists...

Highlight of Düsseldorf! Our waiter was fantastic.. he kept the 0.25 liter beer flowing. While the beer was very tasty, the outdoor patio was an excellent location to gather and observe the sights and sounds of the city.

A very nice spot in the heart of Düsseldorf's Altstadt. The locally brewed beers are truly enjoyable, with deep flavor and excellent quality. I had a great experience here and would definitely come back. The outdoor terrace is a great place to relax during the summer while enjoying a fresh beer and watching the lively street atmosphere. Inside, the traditional beer hall offers a cozy setting with delicious German food. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Düsseldorf who wants to taste authentic local beer and enjoy the classic brewery culture.

We ate at the Uerige in the old town with a group one weekend afternoon. The food was truly excellent, and the drinks we were served were also very tasty. Unfortunately, our experience with the service was considerably less pleasant. The waitress was very unfriendly, and we felt unwelcome. Card payments weren't accepted, which is rather unusual these days. While we were still eating, we were already being billed, and we're still waiting for some of our drinks. We were also spoken to directly about tipping, which seemed unpleasant. We are aware that staff shortages can be a major burden, especially in the restaurant industry, but we should still treat guests with respect. It would be a shame if such experiences became the norm, as the restaurant and the food are truly top-notch. We hope we simply had a bad day and the service will improve.

What’s a better way to start the morning than having a local brewed Alt beer, a gherkin, and a pork tartar on bread with onions? Popped in at 11:15am and it was buzzing already. People on the beers. The place is huge - can easily hold over 500 people I imagine. We came back later in the aftenroon and it was rammed full of people, too. They are rightfully busy. They deliver a solid service, with great food and drinks. If I was a local i’d be +5kg because I would frequent this place very often.

Very bad experience, there is no still water, they don't want to give you a glass of tap water and the waiters are very rude, they are square people who don't allow any other opinion or way of drinking water.
