Restaurant with its own spirit in ancient house. I was lucky to get place outside without reservation, but i would recommend reserve place because you don’t want to miss this place. One of best meal what i ate - hollandaise sauce was divine.

Characteristic place, let's say maybe nicer outside than inside. The room where we ate didn't look like anything special. Staff was helpful, the guy who served us was very very kind. We had a mix of cheeses, bratwurst, a dish of the day of meat with potatoes and a plate of asparagus with dumpling (bread dumpling) and potatoes (the only assembled thing possible for vegans). Dessert was the strudel, beer and wine. The food was very good. Vegans don't have an easy life here in Germany. However, I give 3 stars because you only pay in cash and because some prices are really exaggerated in my opinion. Half a liter of water at €5.40, the plate of Franconian asparagus with bread and potato dumpling at €21.50 and also the meat plate at €33.50 seemed a bit excessive to me for the context and quantity. For the rest, the prices are in line with the norm for local places. The strudel for €10 brought with cream, ice cream and pieces of fruit.

We ate here mid April. Everything was great until the food poisoning hit. I was the only one who got sick, and we shared all of our food except for some kind of spread that I put on the bread, no one else ate the spread. The spread gave me severe food poisoning which eventuated in an ambulance call. Definitely put a dampener on our holiday.

Yes, one of the oldest restaurant in the city, but just focus on tourists doesn't make it as important as it is.

Zur Hoell (To Hell) is located in one of the oldest poor houses in the historic Old Rothenburg, and there is no better atmosphere to experience the old town like here. The establishment is quirky, and filled with antiques from times bygone. It feels like a tavern, perhaps not from the medieval ages, but certainly a few hundred years ago. The food is excellently executed. We had the fresh spring vegetable soup, which was light and refreshing, invoking feelings of spring blooming in the valley surrounding the village. For mains, the seasonal asparagus is a must. Bavarian white asparagus, or spargel, is a traditionally springtime treat. Generous, daily picked stalks of asparagus were simply cooked then doused in a rich hollandaise. The accompanying sausages, schnitzel, and potatoes were well executed but the asparagus is the star in spring. Portions are generous. The wine selection is also well curated. The dry crisp Franconian whites pair well with the food. Service is excellent. The wait staff are professional and extremely kind. Reservations recommended. Would highly recommend for classic Bavarian cuisine in a historic tavern.

Ate dinner here on a recent trip to Rothenburg and would highly recommend to anyone thinking about it! The staff were so kind and made you feel like friends, instead of tourists. The atmosphere and decorations are charming, and the food was delicious! The fresh wild garlic soup is one of the best soups I’ve ever had, and the specials were amazing.

We absolutely cannot understand the positive reviews about the food. It was simply not good - from reheated, hard fried potatoes to completely raw meat (medium would have been fine!). To us it looked and tasted like frozen food. Far from good! The service, on the other hand, was very attentive and really friendly. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy. Maybe we were just unlucky, but there is nothing worse than leaving a restaurant dissatisfied. Really a shame!

The service and the atmosphere are appealing and the waiters are very attentive. Unfortunately we found that the food was an absolute disaster. Despite being grilled several times, the meat (pork) was not cooked through, but was pink to raw. Even the beef wasn't cooked through, I wouldn't criticize that because I love it medium rare, but it was raw like it was on display and only seared on the outside. The fried potatoes were not seasoned and probably came from a bag. The price of €26.90 was not even remotely reasonable. It's a shame about the nice service!

A great restaurant in Rothenburg! Clocky medieval, very tasty and good service. The menu is very small, but there are always 2-3 daily specials that always change. If you want to increase your enthusiasm for the beautiful city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, you should dine here. Absolute recommendation: devil’s skewer!

I ate here last night and the food was really good. The ambience was also very nice and pleasant, but the service from a certain lady was catastrophic, she was overwhelmed, took the wrong order and was rude. I don't have to have it a second time.

An enchanting evening. The atmosphere is quiet, romantic and very charming thanks to the medieval decoration. The staff were very accommodating and we felt very well looked after. Such good internet and then most importantly the food was fabulous, I haven't tried such tasty German food for a long time.

We had made a reservation and were told we would be sitting in the “Löchle”. When I looked on the site I was really looking forward to the rustic room at the bottom of the restaurant. The disappointment was even greater when we arrived at the restaurant. It was then said that other guests really wanted the table and we were then simply seated somewhere else. Apparently I was called. But no call reached me. We traveled an extra 3 hours and I wanted to offer my colleagues something special. Unfortunately it didn't work. I think it's an absolute no go to simply give the reserved table to others. We wanted to sit in exactly the same room and had reserved it.

A culinary journey in a relaxed atmosphere We had the great pleasure of spending an evening at Restaurant Höll in Rottenburg-Opter-Tauber and it was simply fantastic! The service was not only attentive, but warm and super friendly - we felt welcome from the first moment. About the food: We ordered spare ribs, Schäufele and a grill platter, and every dish was an absolute highlight! The quality of the food was excellent – ​​tender meat, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. You can tell that people cook with passion here. The spare ribs were particularly delicious, and the Schäufele was so tender that it melted in your mouth. The portions were generous and the price-performance ratio was absolutely reasonable. Combined with the pleasant atmosphere and wonderful service, I can only warmly recommend Restaurant Höll. We'll definitely be back!

Koreans! Outback tastes better! The food was okay to eat. I visited this place after hearing rumors that it was a good restaurant in Rothenburg, but I wasn't convinced. The potatoes were hard and can you see the picture of the shrimp? They put cocktail shrimp on top and said they had shrimp on top, hahaha. The ribs were soft, but the taste wasn't impressive... What made me feel bad about this place was that it opened at 5 o'clock, so I waited at the entrance 10 minutes before, and a man who looked like the owner came in. So I waited, thinking it would open soon, but a little while later, another male employee came out, looked outside, and went in. So I thought they were just preparing to open, but a group of foreigners just walked in. So we went in and it was already open and a few tables were occupied… Haha, if you saw us waiting, maybe you would ask. I went in with the food slightly spoiled, but if you didn't make a reservation, you could eat it as long as you eat by 6 o'clock, so I said okay and sat down. I ordered almost immediately, but the food came out in about 30 minutes, and they told me to eat by 6, but they gave me the food this late? The pinto got bad the second time. But in between, they went to the table behind us and the table next to us and asked if we needed anything else, but they only passed our table haha. Is this discrimination against Asians? I am writing this review because it was my 3rd time getting damaged. It might be okay for those who aren't sensitive, but I paid for it and it wasn't a pleasant meal. I recommend looking into other restaurants.

We ate delicious food (Schäufele and Obatzter) and were looked after very attentively. Dumplings and cabbage were even added (house service!). The price was more than appropriate for the excellent quality. Reservations are definitely recommended as the inn is not too big. Only cash payment is possible, but this is pointed out when you make your reservation. We will definitely come back on our next visit to Rothenburg.

We had dinner at this highly rated place, honestly we were very disappointed by the quality of the food, poorly reheated and tasteless. The poor service so we didn't leave a tip, when we left the restaurant they didn't even greet us. The only positive thing is the location.

A culinary experience that you should not miss when visiting Rothenburg. Quaint inn in one of the oldest buildings in town. We had four different dishes and all of them exceeded our expectations. But the highlight was the service staff/owners who gave us a great evening during our stay.

We ate there last night and were very disappointed, goose breast and Schäufele with side dishes were swimming in a standard sauce and it was only lukewarm. In terms of taste, we certainly won't eat there again.

This is a 1000+ old tavern serving delicious German food. Yes it may seem like a popular tourist trap but the food is legit. Don't even bother if you don't have a reservation, this is a TINY place. You can email them via website ahead of time and you can request to stay in the cavern. It also seems like they may have next day reservations as well but I wouldn't chance it. All the meat was cooked well. I liked my venison steak which was not gamey. I also got to try the steak & pork skewer and the spare ribs. The red gluhwein was one of the best I've tried so far after being in 3 other German cities. My favorite thing I ventured and tried was the chesnut soup. It sounds odd but it was delicious; it's slightly sweet but not like a sugar broth. Staff are friendly and speak English.

I saw that it had a good score here so me and my wife decided to go to this restaurant. As we arrived there we saw that they only accept cash, I said ok we got cash so no problem although we have 2024 and people now use mainly cards. We got inside and we waited until our turn comes to sit on a table as it was full but I didn't mind. As I waited I went online here to see the menu and what would we order. The owner then came and gave us the menu which was like 7-8 pages with drinks and only 1 page with food in which the main dishes were not there and we were informed that we would get the disches spoken. That was a big dissapointment as I would like to taste specific disches which by the way they weren't available that day. Also the dishes were not exactly German as recipes and the prices of course were not on the menu. After some thought we ended up choosing a main dish and after talking with the owner he convinced us to try the pumpkin soup so we got 1 as well. The soup had smoked salmon in it, was nothing great but ok. The main dish had klos with red cabbage and a sause that was average in taste and for meat had goose which in general as a dish was nothing great but ok I guess, an average dish in total. The shock came afterwards with the bill that for these 3 dishes and 2 cokes was almost 75 euro. Extremely expensive for 3 average dishes. If all these were on the menu and we could see the prices we wouldn't have ordered anything. Paying almost 30 euro for such an average dish is crazy. The inside of the restaurant was nothing that great as well to justify such prices.

The food was very good. The lady who served us was very attentive, unfortunately the last round started before 9 p.m. We would have liked to have had a second glass of wine, after all it was the 60th birthday.

In the historic center, the structure already appears cartoonish from the outside, while once inside you are greeted by a feeling of amazement at the type of furnishings and surrounding objects The dark wood dominates, it seems to be trapped inside a fairy tale, crazy The staff is very cheerful, you feel at home The menu is varied and features typical traditional Bavarian dishes All the dishes we had were delicious, especially the pork ribs and the shank, mouth-watering!!! We are now at the end of our journey along the Romantic Road, a grand finale, I highly recommend you come to this place if you pass through these parts Top!!!

The dish of the day wasn't good and I felt sick, just a tap of beer. Very small and busy space.

We arrived without reservation and they accepted to sit us for one hour. The daily menu is only spoken. The waitress presented the options. There is nowhere the price of those options. You need to ask orelse you will know it only by the time that you receive the bill. We ordered the fish of the day. The dish was small and did not have a good portion of rice. Also, have in mind that the price of the items in the menu does not consider the 19% of tax. We noticed that some items had a different price in the menu from the price that was in the bill, for example the soup was 7,50 in the menu that was outside of the restaurant and the bill charged 8,50. Last thing, this restaurant do not accept card. Cash only!

Great service & delicious food - we can only recommend it. Home cooking, small menu - very good quality and fair prices. We had the sausage/cheese platter & grilled sausages with cabbage, Silvaner.

We were lucky enough to get the table in the vaulted cellar, the oldest in Rothenburg...the room was beautifully decorated, with candles in every corner. The table, which was an old bellows, was also lovingly prepared. While we were waiting, the owner (?) came to our table and told us something about the construction of the restaurant, very exciting... The service was more than good...the waitresses (two different people) kept asking if everything was good. While we were eating (we ordered the devil's skewer), the waitress offered to slide the meat from the skewer onto the plate and also explained to us what exactly was on the skewer. The food itself was also delicious, there is absolutely nothing to complain about... While we were eating the meat on the skewer, a waitress came again and took the remaining skewer with him so that it wouldn't get cold. Very attentive... I can definitely recommend a visit to "hell", it was a very nice evening :)

Traditional German restaurant that appears in all kinds of lists and is therefore frequently visited by tourists (just like the whole of Rothenburg, by the way). The food is good (not great) and a normal price. Great restaurant, but in my opinion it gets the better rating in TripAdvisor because of the ambiance. Beer was small by German standards.

Beautiful experience, the host was so kind and welcoming, the place was full but he let us inside and welcomed us in 2 small chairs, offering us a glass of fresh wine and explaining us the menu. Then we did sit and the place had so much a medieval style, very nice and stylish. Then the food came and it was very good, the host also offered me to have an extra kloße and brought some meat into the kitchen again so it could stay warm. The sweets are very good too and it has a very good price quality ratio

I have to laugh over how bad this place was. Service was horrible. I ordered bread and butter and had to ask twice for it to be brought out only for it to come without butter and half through our meal. The steak was so small for the price and the lamb was dry and tasteless. Get a picture outside and find a much better spot to eat. We literally left and went to another restaurant.

Quaint restaurant in Rothenburg's oldest house. Mainly Franconian cuisine, so not for light food lovers. Our dishes (fish, boiled beef, cheese platter) were delicious (as were the wines) and beautifully served. The service is brisk. It could perhaps be a bit more cordial. This could be due to the swarm of tourists in Rothenburg. I've experienced this in other restaurants too.

It really is a quaint old restaurant. However, 4.10 euros for a 0.3l beer is simply too expensive!!!!!! There's really no reason to offer the drinks so expensive. Schäufele for 20 euros isn't exactly a bargain either. Price performance is simply not right!

A unique dining experience in Rothenburg. The place was super busy for a Tuesday night, but the staff and service was excellent. My wife had the meat on skewers which i highly recommend and i went with the sausages and mushroom gravy that was also very good. Just note they only take cash.

Good Franconian cuisine. Great and attentive service that doesn't seem intrusive. The side dishes were added a second time so that we had a warm product again. We had Schäuffele with dumplings and Bavarian cabbage - very, very tasty. The price/performance ratio was right.

After 2 weeks in Germany, this is my favorite spot! Food, service, atmosphere! All superb! As other reviews have stated- cash only. But they tell you multiple times and it's written on the menu in English and German. I was there 20 years ago (before smart phones and easy reviews). Would recommend anyone go there if they want a genuinely cool experience. Good food, great atmosphere. We were seduced by the great reviews that presented it as the must eat of Rottenmurg. No relation. Mediocre and overpriced food. €30 a schnitzel. I wouldn't recommend it.

Charming location, where our party of six was lucky enough to dine in the incredible old pottery room downstairs. The owners are so helpful and accommodating and the dinner menu, while on the smaller side, was carefully thought out and all of our dishes were presented beautifully. The recommended mushroom dishes off the seasonal menu were especially fantastic. Everything was of perfect temperature as well. Wonderful experience!
