An absolutely charming restaurant with a rustic style, a small menu, and daily specials. Every dish was delicious, meat and side dishes were refilled free of charge, and because it was our birthday, each person received a complimentary drink. We have rarely experienced such personal and warm hospitality! The genuine love for the guests is evident throughout. Our dog was also warmly welcomed.

The restaurant 'Zur Höll' completely won us over with its rustic charm and warm, personal atmosphere. The service is exceptionally friendly and attentive – you immediately feel welcome. The food is outstanding: fresh, homemade, and prepared with love. A particularly nice touch: they offer hot refills of side dishes upon request – at no extra charge. We ordered four different dishes: three different kinds of game, duck, the devil's skewer, and onion tart with homemade Federweißer (new wine) – everything was superb! A visit is highly recommended, and reservations are absolutely essential.

Simply perfect! We had dinner at Höll on October 24, 2025, as part of this year's company outing with 40 people, and we were absolutely thrilled. The ambiance, the quality and selection of the food, as well as the fantastic service from Klaus, Melli, Dennis, and the kitchen team, were exceptional. Thank you so much for this perfect evening! We arrived a little early for our reservation and, despite the restaurant being full, were greeted with a very charming welcome by the chef. The food was a true delight. Seconds were always offered and not charged extra. We had the Franconian bratwurst with the best sauerkraut, the Schäufele (shoulder of pork), and the venison variation. The venison bratwurst was a dream. The Federweißer (white wine) with onion cake deserves a special mention. Extremely charming service and a fantastic wine selection. We'd gladly return.

We stopped in spontaneously today and were lucky enough to get a free table. The waitresses and waiter were all very friendly. We were presented with the daily specials and ultimately opted for a skewer and the three-course venison dish. Both were delicious. At one point, someone came back and asked if we wanted a second helping. In addition to the side dish, the venison ragout was also refilled. The restaurant itself is very quaint and cozy, something we've never seen before. We would definitely come back!

Unbelievably delicious food and the best service we’ve experienced in all of Europe! You must try the appetiser sweet wine, onion cake, pork shoulder, potato dumplings, and potato with shrimp and sour cream. Wow, so delicious! 10/10

The service was extremely friendly, attentive, and multilingual – with a wonderfully humorous manner that immediately put us in a good mood. The food was simply outstanding: fresh, lovingly prepared, and perfectly flavored. You can feel the passion that goes into the cooking here. The cozy atmosphere in this historic house perfectly rounds off the experience. A true highlight in Rothenburg – highly recommended!

It's necessary to book in advance. We didn't. But we sat outside and received excellent service. The food was very good! I shared a dish with my wife and they were kind enough to prepare two plates. I recommend it to everyone who comes to Rothenburg.

We dropped by unannounced at 4:45 p.m. (opening at 5 p.m.) and asked the manager, who was preparing the tables on the street, if we could get something to eat. We were seated immediately and had 1.5 hours until a reservation was activated. We were incredibly excited about this special place and the excellent food. We ordered shoulder of pork with dumplings and Bavarian cabbage. It seems to be quite common to be asked for seconds during the meal. Whether it was a second dumpling or, like the next table, a second slice of sauerbraten... we thought everything was wonderful. The service was professional but with a lot of humor! We had a great time and promised to come back next year.

We had been looking for a possible place for dinner in the afternoon. After a few phone calls and subsequent cancellations, we were able to reserve a table for two people. Upon arrival in the evening, we had three different tables to choose from (the other two were booked immediately after us, including reservations). We were offered three different daily specials and presented with the standard menu. After a brief consideration, we decided on two different daily specials. These were served quite quickly. The side salad we ordered as a starter was delicious but very expensive. The two main courses were also very good, but the portion sizes were very manageable and also expensive! Overall, it was okay, but due to the portions and prices, we won't be returning here again.

A very pretty and quaint restaurant with delicious food and excellent service 🧡. I especially like that the plates aren't overly overstuffed, but you can get a fresh, hot second helping right at your table if you need it. That's not only sustainable, but also really great!

Being served such delicious food in the oldest building in the city is something special. The Schäuferle (a kind of sauerkraut dish) was simply amazing. The service is really very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it. Arriving early or making a reservation will ensure you get the best seats. 😉

We've never been served as well as we were in this restaurant. I think it was the chef who brought us the food. We were asked twice if we'd had enough and if we'd like another dumpling. My mother and I shared a portion of Schäufele because we weren't that hungry, so it really wasn't necessary. It was uncomplicated despite a few special requests—no problem at all. I don't even want to talk about the quality of the food. Top-notch. A perfect restaurant for us with outstanding service and excellent food. It was our first time here. Certainly not the last.

Be careful, at the checkout we discover that they don't accept card payments.

The restaurant itself is one of the oldest buildings in Rothenburg. Staffs are super friendly, and the service was very quick even though they were busy. I think inside tables are better than outside terraces even in summer evenings.

Very polite staff, they made special fried potatoes with bratwurst for our children, even though it wasn't on the menu (since we only wanted a small meal). It was very cozy and pleasantly quiet, away from the hustle and bustle. We can truly recommend it.

It's a wonderful place where you can experience a medieval atmosphere, and you may not be able to enter without a reservation. If you're staying for a long period of time, it's sufficient to make a reservation on site, but if you're staying for a short period of time but definitely want to go, it's best to make a reservation by email from Japan before your trip. All the dishes are very filling!

Upon entering, we received a warm welcome and were escorted to a beautiful table. What followed was first-class service, the likes of which, unfortunately, are rarely experienced these days. The truly hospitable owner greeted us personally, handed us the menus, and explained each dish and recommendation with palpable passion. He answered our questions with genuine friendliness and patience – with a level of attentiveness that was truly exceptional. And then the food arrived… simply fantastic! The flavors were spot on, lovingly prepared, regional, and fresh. We particularly remember the skewer my wife ordered – served stylishly hanging. As the host expertly slid it onto the plate, leaving one half still on the skewer, he charmingly said, "I'll warm it up for you right away so you can enjoy the second half nice and hot, too." This small gesture says more about true hospitality than a thousand words. Even during the meal, they regularly asked if we had any potatoes, dumplings, cabbage, or any other requests – always in such a warm tone that we almost felt like we were with good friends. Here, someone lives their profession – with true dedication, passion, and a strong sense of service, the kind you only know from the "old school." The ambiance, quality, location – everything is just right. But it's the person behind it all who makes the stay so special. ➡️ We'll be back. Absolutely. Every time we're in Rothenburg. Overall, highly recommended! The food is very good, as is the wine. The staff and the food were very hospitable and attentive to our needs. Probably one of the most beautiful restaurants here in a 1,000-year-old building. I recommend making a reservation.

The food is okay, nothing special, and more expensive than comparable restaurants. The daily menu is given verbally without prices, and you're a bit shocked later on because the classic dishes are significantly more expensive than at other restaurants. It was very crowded and everything took a long time. The atmosphere is absolutely awful. We sat outside, and there were always lots of people standing next to us, waiting for a table to open and watching us. Tourists are constantly taking photos of us and asking us about the menu, which isn't posted anywhere. It was a really unpleasant experience. I wouldn't go there again.

Unfortunately, it was a truly disappointing experience. The prices are decidedly high compared to the average and the quality offered: small portions, and the quality is below the reviews. The worst part, however, was the service: they brought us the bill without us asking for it and without even asking if we wanted to order anything else. When it came time to pay, we discovered they don't accept cards and invited us to go to the ATM to withdraw money. While one of us left to get the cash, they asked us to get up to vacate the table without even finishing our drinks. Definitely avoid.

A restaurant with very friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere (you'll feel like you're on the prancing pony from Lord of the Rings). The best sauerkraut I've ever tried (in the photo, I'd already eaten half of it, hehe). The beer was excellent. We had dinner for four people and it cost around €80.

The ambiance is pleasant. When making a reservation over the phone, they don't mention that the table is only reserved for one hour. The ambiance is very pleasant, and you really feel like you're sitting in a medieval house. However, the menu with the daily specials doesn't list prices. Therefore, I would recommend asking for the individual prices when the daily specials are presented. The value for money isn't justified. Even the drink prices, given that they use Rewe mineral water bottles, make this place a tourist trap.

We dined at the Höll on three evenings. The food was delicious, especially the Schäufele (shoulder of pork), which was very tender and had a wonderful crust. The service was—at first glance—a bit "rough," but became more cordial as time went on. The wine list was very pleasing, and the prices were reasonable considering the small number of tables. Since the restaurant is quite small, the noise level can be a bit high, especially when there are groups of guests. The restaurant only accepts cash; a notice to this effect is posted on the board at the entrance.

Serves local wine in chalices and amazing sausages for very reasonable prices. Friendly service and very good local cuisine. Only accepts cash which they have written in multiple places. The outside seating is very charming and peaceful and indoor is full of character. I'd definitely come back and bring guests here.

Great traditional German food. Small seasonal menu with a few other Bavarian staples offered. They had a long wine list that included wines from all over the world. We stuck with a local wine the waitress recommend, it was delicious. Only one pils beer on the menu, it was light and refreshing. It's asparagus season, so all of the specialty menu meals included white asparagus. It was delicious. 100% would recommend.

Food is meh. Pork Cutlet is very tough and disappointing taste. Schnitzel was ok. The service is extremely slowwwwww. They forgot to give my soup as an Appetizer. I think this restaurant is kinda overrated. Food took forever to come. We asked for the Bills and it took almost 20 minutes itself. And the shocking part is they only accept CASH without even telling the customer is CASH ONLY. Better go somewhere else since sometimes this restaurant can be very busy. But it is not really worth it.

Unfortunately we cannot judge the food. We came by without a reservation and were allowed to sit outside. After 10 minutes there was still no one there so we walked to the Italian restaurant in the center, where we had a delicious meal. This restaurant looked authentic/local from the inside. Service not really worth mentioning (also not exactly customer friendly inside; they just let you stand inside without making contact)

We were also pleasantly surprised by the polite way in which we were asked if we wanted any side dishes. Therefore, a clear recommendation; a good restaurant a little tucked away from the tourist crowds.

A great restaurant from the outside, but the interior lacks the rustic feel you'd expect. Reservations are recommended, as it's almost impossible to get a table at short notice. I had the daily special, the grilled plate... unfortunately there was no price on the board, and I ended up paying €28 for it... in retrospect, I wonder how the price came about given the portion size. My friend had the spare ribs, which were roughly the same amount, for considerably less money. Both were very tasty, though. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. What bothers me is that there was no proper bill, just an order slip with a handwritten amount on it... tax advice!

Interesting historic restaurant. Food (meat dishes) was OK but not outstanding, and the portions were not too big for the price paid. Sitting outside is recommended only in the summer as the street is drafty. All in all an average experience.

The oldest building in Regensburg, this old tavern dates to the year 900! The food is amazing, the staff is funny and polite and the atmosphere is really cozy! Celebrated my birthday here with two friends and will gladly come back here when visiting Rothenburg next time. Just make sure to reserve a table in advance!
