They say the boss buys his staff a round of sparkling wine for positive feedback... (that was obviously a joke, since there will probably only be positive feedback anyway). Nevertheless... Enjoy the sparkling wine! Because... it was fantastic once again. The food was good, the service was good, and... how should I put it... pleasant, friendly, and welcoming. The place is naturally buzzing, with people queuing up, but you still feel welcome, without any hectic atmosphere! Very nice! Reservations are recommended, although sometimes people without reservations are squeezed in, but there's no guarantee! Thank you for the lovely evening, we'd love to come again! By the way, we had the Schäufele (pork shoulder)... delicious!

What a wonderful, lovingly run restaurant! The four of us hadn't made a reservation, and they did everything they could to accommodate us. Despite the restaurant being full, the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. My husband and I wanted to share our meals since we weren't very hungry at lunchtime. The kitchen then brought each of us a plate with half the portion. The food was delicious; we had horseradish soup and three different wild boar dishes. We would definitely come back.

Yes, you should definitely make a reservation. The ambiance is exactly as you'd expect, and the food is excellent. The reservation email clearly states that it's cash only, which is fine. However, being asked to pay the bill after only an hour (!) really ruins the evening. Sorry, but 60 minutes for a table is unacceptable, especially without any prior notice during the reservation process. PS: We didn't just order water and reserve the table; the two of us spent €100 in that hour.

Every dish was delicious, meat and side dishes were refilled free of charge, and because it was our birthday, each person received a complimentary drink. The restaurant 'Zur Höll' completely won us over with its rustic charm and warm, personal atmosphere. The service is exceptionally friendly and attentive – you immediately feel welcome. The food is outstanding: fresh, homemade, and prepared with love. A particularly nice touch: they offer hot refills of side dishes upon request – at no extra charge. We ordered four different dishes: three different kinds of game, duck, the devil's skewer, and onion tart with homemade Federweißer (new wine) – everything was superb! A visit is highly recommended, and reservations are absolutely essential.

We arrived a little early for our reservation and, despite the restaurant being full, were greeted with a very charming welcome by the chef. The food was a true delight. Seconds were always offered and not charged extra. We had the Franconian bratwurst with the best sauerkraut, the Schäufele (shoulder of pork), and the venison variation. The venison bratwurst was a dream. The Federweißer (white wine) with onion cake deserves a special mention. Extremely charming service and a fantastic wine selection. We'd gladly return.

We stopped in spontaneously today and were lucky enough to get a free table. The waitresses and waiter were all very friendly. We were presented with the daily specials and ultimately opted for a skewer and the three-course venison dish. Both were delicious. At one point, someone came back and asked if we wanted a second helping. In addition to the side dish, the venison ragout was also refilled. The restaurant itself is very quaint and cozy, something we've never seen before. We would definitely come back!

The service was extremely friendly, attentive, and multilingual – with a wonderfully humorous manner that immediately put us in a good mood. The food was simply outstanding: fresh, lovingly prepared, and perfectly flavored. You can feel the passion that goes into the cooking here. We dropped by unannounced at 4:45 p.m. (opening at 5 p.m.) and asked the manager, who was preparing the tables on the street, if we could get something to eat. We were seated immediately and had 1.5 hours until a reservation was activated. We were incredibly excited about this special place and the excellent food. We ordered shoulder of pork with dumplings and Bavarian cabbage. It seems to be quite common to be asked for seconds during the meal. Whether it was a second dumpling or, like the next table, a second slice of sauerbraten... we thought everything was wonderful. The service was professional but with a lot of humor! We had a great time and promised to come back next year.

We had been looking for a possible place for dinner in the afternoon. After a few phone calls and subsequent cancellations, we were able to reserve a table for two people. Upon arrival in the evening, we had three different tables to choose from (the other two were booked immediately after us, including reservations). We were offered three different daily specials and presented with the standard menu. After a brief consideration, we decided on two different daily specials. These were served quite quickly. The side salad we ordered as a starter was delicious but very expensive. The two main courses were also very good, but the portion sizes were very manageable and also expensive! Overall, it was okay, but due to the portions and prices, we won't be returning here again.

We've never been served as well as we were in this restaurant. I think it was the chef who brought us the food. We were asked twice if we'd had enough and if we'd like another dumpling. My mother and I shared a portion of Schäufele because we weren't that hungry, so it really wasn't necessary. It was uncomplicated despite a few special requests—no problem at all. I don't even want to talk about the quality of the food. Top-notch. A perfect restaurant for us with outstanding service and excellent food. It was our first time here. Certainly not the last.

The restaurant itself is one of the oldest buildings in Rothenburg. Staffs are super friendly, and the service was very quick even though they were busy. I think inside tables are better than outside terraces even in summer evenings.

Very polite staff, they made special fried potatoes with bratwurst for our children, even though it wasn't on the menu (since we only wanted a small meal). It was very cozy and pleasantly quiet, away from the hustle and bustle. We can truly recommend it.

It's a wonderful place where you can experience a medieval atmosphere, and you may not be able to enter without a reservation. If you're staying for a long period of time, it's sufficient to make a reservation on site, but if you're staying for a short period of time but definitely want to go, it's best to make a reservation by email from Japan before your trip. All the dishes are very filling!

The truly hospitable owner greeted us personally, handed us the menus, and explained each dish and recommendation with palpable passion. He answered our questions with genuine friendliness and patience – with a level of attentiveness that was truly exceptional. And then the food arrived… simply fantastic! The flavors were spot on, lovingly prepared, regional, and fresh. We particularly remember the skewer my wife ordered – served stylishly hanging. As the host expertly slid it onto the plate, leaving one half still on the skewer, he charmingly said, "I'll warm it up for you right away so you can enjoy the second half nice and hot, too." This small gesture says more about true hospitality than a thousand words. Even during the meal, they regularly asked if we had any potatoes, dumplings, cabbage, or any other requests – always in such a warm tone that we almost felt like we were with good friends. Here, someone lives their profession – with true dedication, passion, and a strong sense of service, the kind you only know from the "old school." The ambiance, quality, location – everything is just right. But it's the person behind it all who makes the stay so special. ➡️ We'll be back. Absolutely. Every time we're in Rothenburg. The food is okay, nothing special, and more expensive than comparable restaurants. The daily menu is given verbally without prices, and you're a bit shocked later on because the classic dishes are significantly more expensive than at other restaurants. It was very crowded and everything took a long time. The atmosphere is absolutely awful. We sat outside, and there were always lots of people standing next to us, waiting for a table to open and watching us. Tourists are constantly taking photos of us and asking us about the menu, which isn't posted anywhere. It was a really unpleasant experience. I wouldn't go there again.

The ambiance is pleasant. When making a reservation over the phone, they don't mention that the table is only reserved for one hour. The ambiance is very pleasant, and you really feel like you're sitting in a medieval house. However, the menu with the daily specials doesn't list prices. Therefore, I would recommend asking for the individual prices when the daily specials are presented. The value for money isn't justified. Even the drink prices, given that they use Rewe mineral water bottles, make this place a tourist trap.

Since the restaurant is quite small, the noise level can be a bit high, especially when there are groups of guests. The restaurant only accepts cash; a notice to this effect is posted on the board at the entrance.
