After purchasing the gatehouse from Dr. Marcel Kaiser, he invested €2.5 million in expanding it to 700 seats and modernizing it. Great, the ample, FREE PARKING. Attractive food and drink menu.

After a lovely autumn walk, I enjoyed a delicious schnitzel with fresh mushrooms and fried potatoes. Truly amazing 👍 👌

Service and food were very good, especially the pork schnitzel was excellent!👍 The French fries were also very good; the gatehouse doesn't have to hide behind the Dutch.👍 Finally, a walk through the sculpture garden made it another successful visit.😁 I can't comment on the rooms; we've never stayed there before.

Very tasty, as always, but unfortunately we weren't really full. After the renovation, it looks great, but I think it's lost some of its coziness. It's also become very loud. It would be nice if the tables were cleaned after each guest.

So, first of all, to the dissatisfied guest "PAT GOR" FROM OCTOBER 3RD! To that, all I can say is: AS THE GUEST, SO THE SERVICE. If you complain, you'll be treated the same way if it gets out of hand. We ate there yesterday and can 100% recommend the restaurant, the extremely friendly, attentive staff, and the food served with love. We'll definitely be back. It's also worth noting that all the guests around us were also very satisfied. And to all the complainers: First do the job, then you'll be able to judge. "The service staff is not a buffer for your own dissatisfaction." TO THE ENTIRE TEAM AT THE TORHAUS...YOU ARE GREAT.

Even more beautiful after renovations, perfect for guests who want to experience the Sauerland region... always full, reservations can be helpful! Worth seeing: the sculpture garden, spacious, with great seating by the pond!

Since the new owner took over, a lot has changed at the Torhaus Möhnesee restaurant and beer garden! The cuisine is still excellent. The dishes are tasty and of high quality. Fortunately, the famous cakes have also survived the takeover. The staff is still prompt and very friendly. The negative: The addition of a large winter garden with the aim of creating more indoor seating was, in my opinion, a failure, and resembles a rather overly brightly lit, upscale company cafeteria. You look over everyone's heads into a large hall and have to endure the corresponding noise. It would have been better to retain the uniquely beautiful, hyggelig interior design concept of the original dining room, with its atmospheric lighting, its rough solid wood tables, and the beautiful decor—all of which, by the way, fit in perfectly with the beautiful outdoor area. I also suspect that the renovation meant that the coveted outdoor seating had to be reduced. In my opinion, that would have been another bad decision. When the weather is nice, guests have always come from near and far to sit in the beautiful beer garden – and despite its size, they often couldn't find a seat! They should have expanded it rather than reduced it... The wonderfully landscaped sculpture park was unfortunately closed today, October 1, 2025. That hasn't been the case in all the years before, either. After all, this beautiful, large park has always been a reason to visit.

Yesterday, on a holiday (October 3rd), I unfortunately spent the most unnecessary half hour there in a long time. The sculpture garden is truly beautiful; anything else was unacceptable. What kind of concept is the catering team supposed to have there? One person only takes coffee orders, sometimes one at a time for a group of four. Another only brings the cake to other tables, another only the coffee. Another politely says he'll let yet another person know he'll come to the table to take the food orders. Unfortunately, this didn't happen. The coffee server serves the coffee cup from the left instead of the right, which then wasn't properly placed on the saucer and consequently tipped over. One person has a glass on the tray, another has a plate, the next has nothing at all, but doesn't clear anything away on the way back either. So there's a constant, lively hustle and bustle, like in a beehive, but nothing moves forward. I don't want to blame all the young people who are milling around there rather aimlessly. There's simply a lack of structure, a shift manager who clearly dictates how everything should run. Or there's simply no concept. Nothing will change. After all, the Torhaus has been an institution for decades. It can't be any other way, given the lack of alternatives, and so it's practically a self-starter as a day-trip restaurant, since there's nothing else there. Not much of the building's former charm remains after the renovation. Maybe it's great there on a normal weekday, but unfortunately not on a holiday due to complete overwork. After more than half an hour, there was just one drink for everyone at the table; no food orders were ever taken during that time. The proceeds of well over 100 euros were later transferred to a reputable and customer-oriented restaurant in Soest.

We went there for dinner with our dog. It was a beautiful, rustic restaurant with a lovely garden. The food was delicious. Great value for money. 👍

The restaurant has been recently renovated and is lovingly and comfortably decorated. The food and cakes are delicious and lovingly prepared. The staff is super friendly and make you feel at home.

A very nice restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. The service is excellent. From breakfast to dinner, there's something for everyone, and the food is very good. Prices are reasonable for a restaurant with a hotel. The outdoor area is beautifully landscaped. The large adjoining woodland garden with a romantic pond is an inviting place to linger.

We walked by and asked for a small bottle to take away, as we couldn't sit down due to time constraints. Of course, I would have paid the full price for a bottle of water at the table. When I asked a really polite and friendly question, the old man at the bar simply replied brusquely, "No." The next road trip with the Porsche family won't be here, and I will generally advise any acquaintance I know against visiting your place. By the way, I'm sick and needed the water. Humanly repulsive and disappointing.

Simply a "classic" at Lake Möhne...delicious food at affordable prices and friendly staff

Totally overcrowded, with only two fixed breakfast options. Then you have to buy each item from scratch. The advantage is the proximity to Lake Möhne.

We were at the Torhaus yesterday with a group of 19 people. We tried to reserve a table for coffee over the phone some time ago, but were told that they only accept reservations for lunch and dinner. When we arrived yesterday, the first question was why we hadn't reserved earlier, given our group size... We were lucky that a large table with 17 seats was available. We quickly pushed the chairs together to add two more. We all found a seat! Two employees at the Torhaus asked us to put the two chairs back at the neighboring table, as such behavior was not permitted. Four of us were supposed to sit at the neighboring table, even though we all fit at the large table and it was clear that we only wanted coffee and a slice of cake. The employee was unwilling to find a solution. I went back to the counter to discuss the situation, since, in my opinion, it made no difference to the restaurant whether 17 or 19 people were sitting at the table. The waitress had enough space to refill the drinks and cake. Finally, another employee came over, who, in my opinion, was quite annoyed by the discussions and simply told us to do as we pleased and not to argue any more. Afterward, the service was good and the cake was delicious.

We went there for dinner, and it was truly delicious. The ambiance is perfect. The adjacent park is also truly beautiful and inviting to stroll through, with statues and decorations everywhere to admire. This was our second visit, and certainly won't be the last. Highly recommended.

What a beautiful spot! If you don't stop here, it's your own fault. It's not your typical motorcycle hangout near the Möhne River, but as a moped rider, I received a very warm welcome. Free parking in front of the entrance! Beautifully landscaped grounds, there's something to discover around every corner, everything is well-maintained, great seating, delicious food, coffee, and cake—you're in a different world here, both inside and out. A very good restaurant with a wonderful, renovated conservatory. A small but very fine menu. Also famous for its fantastic cakes at coffee time. Reservations are essential!

4 stars only because I can't rate the rooms. However, the roulades were a culinary experience for me. As a Swabian, we just like them differently here. The staff is very friendly and prepares food with a very open heart. The price is reasonable. I'd be happy to go back.

It's almost impossible to get a table without a reservation. On weekends, it's definitely not possible without a reservation. Very busy. The ambiance and food are highly recommended.

The location and service are great, the food was good, but not a highlight in my opinion.

We've been drawn to Lake Möhne for over 20 years, always to the Torhaus because we liked the concept of the Torhaus, the Fischerhütte, and, back then, the Wald und Wiesencafé. Unfortunately, we last visited the Torhaus in early 2024 (before the renovation). Yesterday we were almost shocked! Even though the renovation turned out quite nice overall...it's now become a much too LOUD CANTEEN...the GLORY of what was once a special place is gone! No more candles on the tables, shoddy plastic flowers as decorations... It's more of a mass-production affair now... sitting outside is a thing of the past :-( The food was okay, if you were served. The garden is unkempt, a shadow of its former self! There are wine barrels on the tables (outside), and some of the plants are dried out... The garden is dying of thirst... it's unloved! The gatehouse has lost its shine. Perhaps the new operators shouldn't just focus on quantity; walk through the garden with your eyes open! It's crying out for help!!! Every garden lover's HEART bleeds! Perhaps a trip to Bad Lippspringe can help; the fisherman's hut hasn't lost its "SHINE"!!! We probably won't be back under these conditions. What a shame...

The food in the Torhaus was truly outstanding – very tasty and of the highest quality. I would definitely return for the food alone. However, I found the atmosphere in the conservatory very distracting. The background noise is more reminiscent of a large shooting hall or train station concourse. This isn't about kitchen or technical noises, but rather the background noise of the guests' conversations: Since so many tables are located in a very large conservatory, voices from all sides refract and mix, creating a very loud, echoing atmosphere. You can hardly hear each other at your own table, which is a shame. Visually, the Torhaus is very attractively designed, and the outdoor area is also truly beautiful and inviting. If the acoustics in the conservatory were more pleasant, it would be almost perfect for me.

It used to be a top-notch place, but unfortunately, after the renovation, it's deteriorated considerably. The ambiance is less cozy than before, especially the acoustics at the back window are extremely loud. The service is unfriendly (black hair, tattoo on upper arm). It's a shame. We probably won't be coming here as often anymore. Used to be top-notch 👍🏼 Not worth the long drive anymore :(

The gatehouse at Lake Möhne is a great idea for a day trip. We've never seen anything like it. A thatched old gatehouse as a restaurant, spacious and spacious, with very high-quality food and drinks and good service. However, the extensive park with numerous sculptures, bird aviaries, a lake, and many themed houses with seating invites you to linger. One small drawback is that visitors are transported by buses, so it gets very crowded. I think that's unique.

The location is unique. I love the lovingly designed sculpture garden/forest—perfect for stretching your legs after dinner!

This was our first time at the Torhaus, and despite the fact that it was delicious, my celiac disease was very well catered for. I felt safe and the food was delicious. 💯

We were with a group for a smaller event in the adjacent Torhäuschen building and received excellent service. The staff was attentive and their communication was refreshingly fun. Furthermore, despite the relatively long walk, the service was lightning fast. We moved to the conservatory for dinner. Here, too, the service was perfect and the quality of the food impeccable. In summary: A perfect evening in a perfect restaurant!

The drinks arrived within a minute, and the cake is excellent. The art garden is worth a visit; it's very quaint.

When visiting the Möhne Dam, a visit to the Torhaus restaurant is a must. The restaurant is beautifully located, and parking is available right outside. The menu appeals to us. They emphasize local produce, which is something we love. The staff is attentive and courteous. The outdoor area is interestingly designed and offers plenty of space. The ambiance inside is equally harmonious. All in all, a top 5-star recommendation.

We had lunch here, and it was delicious: currywurst with fries for €12.50. The ambiance is very pleasant and worth a visit. Paths around the inn lead through a sculpture garden, which is also wheelchair accessible. There are also disabled parking spaces in front of the entrance.

Beautiful café garden, definitely worth five stars if you were served. Large parts of the outdoor dining area, as well as the indoor area, are apparently closed and unserviced due to a lack of staff. It's lovely to look at, but a visit isn't recommended in good conscience. Unless you just want to stroll in the pretty and richly decorated garden. In that case, you'd have to bring your own coffee and cake. 😜

The food and service were great… although we waited 90 minutes for the food. So the evening wasn't quite as relaxing.

We only went to the restaurant, and it was very crowded, extremely loud, and extremely unsuitable for quiet relaxation and enjoyment. Unless you like such a stressful environment with "hundreds" of people.

Möhnesee gatehouse and sculpture garden simply great.

The food? Truly delicious. The renovation? A real hit—stylish and inviting. The atmosphere inside? More like a cafeteria than a restaurant—you almost wait for someone to walk by with a tray and cups of pudding. There are some nice seats outside, but many remain empty due to staff shortages. Sitting inside on a summer evening when it's over 20 degrees Celsius just feels wrong. It's a shame—because you could easily find your favorite spot for balmy summer nights here.

I was there for rehab and ate there with my family over the weekend. A meal wasn't necessary because the visit was only for one day. Still, a great experience.

I'm truly thrilled with the Torhaus! A huge amount has changed here in recent years, in every respect. The food has improved significantly, and the new extension gives the whole place a bright, friendly atmosphere. It used to feel a bit dark, but now it feels completely inviting. No wonder so many people love coming here!

I don't know of anything comparable in the area. The staff and the food are top notch and after the renovation the ambience is simply uniquely cozy and beautiful.

The ambiance, food, and drinks are of a high standard, 5 stars. The service is excellent. The wonderful surrounding park gives the hotel a unique selling point. This is where the only criticism comes in. There are several aviaries in the park. While this type of caged accommodation may meet animal welfare standards (some cages appear very dark), in my opinion it doesn't fit with the overall concept of the complex, which follows a cosmopolitan program with plenty of art and nature. One point deducted for this. Incidentally, many species of birds can be observed and heard in the wild in the park. We cannot comment on the rooms.

We visited the restaurant, but didn't stay at the hotel. Everything was excellent. We were very pleasantly surprised by the value for money. We sat in the beautiful, lovingly and creatively designed garden. This garden is for quiet enjoyment and NOT suitable for playing. We would love to come back!

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a seat because the service staff in several areas couldn't/wouldn't offer any more garden seating, despite many small groups requesting seats. As a guest, I was told to bring staff over so they could serve more people. Unfortunately, that wasn't appropriate or sensible because there were still seats inside, and they would have been served. And to be honest, there were a lot of service staff; I have no idea what the regulations are in place. Well, they clearly didn't rely on us as guests, but it's a shame. Especially since there were still plenty of nice seats outside in the 27-degree sunshine. But even self-service would probably be too complicated.

Great for walking, a beautiful area by Lake Möhne. The restaurant was excellent, and the food was truly the best we've had in a long time. The entire staff was super friendly and accommodating. Everything was homemade, from the sauces to the mayo. Simply a wonderful day out. Even dogs are welcome here.
