Restaurant Hohenegg in Konstanz

We had to wait a long time for our food even though the restaurant wasn't full. My fish fillet was very dry and the vegetables were overcooked and oversalted. My companions' food was good.

I went to this restaurant because there wasn't any other good home-style restaurant open far and wide. But it was worth it. The service was nice and the food was fine. Just the way you want it. The ambience was also suitable, just not outstanding, therefore only a 4 star. But otherwise everything is pallet. However, my visit was a month ago, on November 29th.

We were traveling back to Munich from a new years getaway in Colmar. I found this place as one of few open places on the national holiday. Everything was great. The food is freshly cooked and the portions are very big. The restaurant overlooks the lake and has a beautiful view of it. On top of a very good food, quality service, and beautiful atmosphere, the chef made our day by personally coming to our table and asking whether we liked the food. We loved this place and will come back if we’re ever around again. I can imagine how much more beautiful it would be sitting outside on a summer day.

Ich war Heute mit meiner Familie und einem guten Familien Freund hier im Restaurant Hohenegg zum Weihnachtsessen. Heute gab es eine Feiertage Karte mit verschiedenen leckere Speisen. Wir hatten eine sehr Freundliche, schnelle Bedienung. Ich, meine Frau, mein Schwager und meinen Familien Freund hatten die Weihnachtssuppe. Sie war echt sehr schmackhaft und gut. Anschliessend gab es eine bunten gemischten Salat, war auch sehr gut und die Salatsosse hat mir Super geschmeckt. Ich mein Schwager und Markus hatten Fleisch Spiess auf Balkan Art mit Pommes, Tomaten Gemüse Reis, geschnittene Frühlingszwiebeln und Peperoni / Paprika Sosse. Der Fleischspiess war richtig gebraten, das Fleisch war drin noch schön saftig. Hat mir und alle anderen gut geschmeckt. Meine Tochter und meine Nichte hatten Schnitzel mit Pommes... Zwei wirklich richtig zubereitete Schnitzel, die Panade überhaupt nicht trocken und das Fleisch saftig... TOP Schnitzel! Meine Frau hat das Hirsch Gulasch gewählt, mit Preiselbeeren, gekochte Williams Birne und Spätzle, auch sehr sehr gut (die Portion war Grosszügig). Hat an meiner Frau auch sehr gut geschmeckt. Und meine Schwester hat etwas mit Fisch und Gemüse bestellt, war auch sehr Schmackhaft. Einige von uns nahmen noch eine Nachspeise "Apfelstrudel mit Vanille Eis Kugeln, Apfel Schnitze und als Deco frische Minze" war auch sehr Super lecker. Zirka sechs Leute nahmen noch einen Kaffee und wir drei Männer noch ein feinen Brand vom Balkan (hat uns sehr gemundet. Die Bedienung war Hervorragend, der Total Preis Human, überhaupt nicht überrissen [da hat man wirklich für das Geld noch richtig etwas bekommen]. Wir haben das Lokal mit Zufriedenheit und Begeisterung verlassn. Im Sommer bei gutem Wetter kann man draussen Speisen mit der schönen Sicht auf den Bodensee. Wir alle sagen... Dies Restaurant kann man sehr gut Empfehlen!!!

Overall it was unfortunately a very disappointing experience. The taste of the food was not convincing and the staff seemed unmotivated and annoyed. Konstanz definitely offers significantly better alternatives.

Good selection and good quality

We planned our daughter's baptism dinner with 35 people and held it in Hohenegg. Nothing was prepared when we arrived at 12 p.m. as agreed. The service from A to Z was unfriendly and overwhelmed at the same time. For every 35 people we had one waiter who was extremely overwhelmed and unfriendly. The meat was tough and some guests couldn't eat their meat. Coffee sometimes came 30 minutes after ordering. When I wanted to pay I was asked how it was, which I thought was great, but the waiter rejected everything and talked his way out of it instead of accepting the criticism and apologizing. I wouldn't hold a party there again. The location is great but you shouldn't rely on it. The restaurant is getting old and the furniture and interior design are from the 90s.

Food and service not recommended. Cheese spaetzle was lukewarm, the fried onions sprinkled on top didn't deserve the name because they were cold and tough. The cutlery lay on a plate that was dirty with candle wax. Missing napkins on the table were not discovered by the service staff. We had to wait longer for the bill, the waiter always had something else to do other than bring us the bill.

We went here with friends and it was very tasty and entertaining. Many thanks to the entire team!

Nothing special, but quite ok for a German restaurant... We still had table arrangements from the night before on the table and a food maggot crawled over the tablecloth from a flower. It wasn't that big of a deal, I brought it outside on a napkin without comment, but it detracted from the overall impression...

Bisher für mich das in Konstanz leckerste Sauerkraut, klasse gewürzt und ein perfektes Kartoffelpüree zu ausgezeichneter Blut- und Leberwurst zu einem günstigen Preis. Dazu eine Flasche super Rotwein aus Südafrika: Ulumbaza - ein perfekter Genuss mit Seeblick.

You will be welcomed very friendly. View of the lake is gigantic. Food is fantastic big portions. Can only recommend it. We'll be back.

Delicious food with a beautiful view. The access is a little strange, there is a sign saying no access, but next to it it says "Until Restaurant Free", so don't be put off. There is enough parking space and a beautiful view of Lake Constance. The quality is good and the toilets are clean. Well-being is very important here. Thanks for the delicious food.

Quaint restaurant with a view of the lake and directly adjacent to the traditional Ruppaner brewery. Absolutely good value for money - very friendly service!

Good portion size, good preparation, harmonious selection, friendly service, table reservations possible by telephone, open daily, fair prices, parking directly at the house, terrace with lake view, plenty of space inside - you can't go wrong with a visit to the Hohenegg restaurant.

Still tastes good. Back then, people were served very nice plum liqueur after their meal. Unfortunately that is now missing.

If you like flowers, then this place is a must. So many species in a subtropical climate: fantastic.

The food was quite good, although a bit overpriced. Little choice for vegetarians. The view, on the other hand, was really beautiful and the service was great too! All in all recommended.

The service was not well organized. Except for that, I really liked my beer and there is a nice view on the lake.

I had the Argentinian rump steak with chanterelles and cream sauce from the daily menu, my wife had the trout Müllerin. Simply perfect. And the view of the lake made its contribution :-). The waiter was extremely attentive - we felt very comfortable! The best thing at the end was that we were allowed to spend the night here with our motorhome (6m van)!!!

When the weather is nice you have a good view from the terrace

The restaurant has a beautiful terrace overlooking the lake. There are enough parking spaces available in front of the door. It's a little hidden behind a brewery. Service was okay and the food was also delicious. However, we had the feeling that with two children we didn't fit in with the expected clientele. The terrace itself also looks much cozier in the official pictures than it actually was.

Nice place. Food was very tasty. However, at 20 euros for a normal schnitzel it's a bit much. When the weather is nice you can enjoy it on the terrace with a view of Lake Constance. If the weather is bad, there is enough seating inside with 80s/90s charm.

Ok, aber leider nicht mehr. Das Bier ist frisch und gut, die Aussicht traumhaft. Das Essen ist durchwachsen. Für eine Wanderpause aber gut, auch wenn im Vergleich zu anderen ähnlichen Gaststätten teurer.

Had a delicious lunch with good beer (the brewery is next door). My wife had a tasty tomato soup and I had a wurst salad (photo) Beautiful view over Lake Constance. But... service could be a bit nicer.

The food is very delicious. The head chef kindly asked if you liked the dinner. We had dinner here with a group of 15 people, and our table was reserved. The waiter was not nice at all. When we asked him to take a photo of us, he was upset that he couldn't do it. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m., but since he didn't let us know that, and didn't tell us that he would close, if we might ask for dessert, we can't rate them. He shrugged, saying that the kitchen closes at 9 and the restaurant closes at 10. When we told him he could take the empty plate away, he simply put it on another table with a bored face. It's worth coming here for the food and the view, but the service is sad and spoils the mood.

We weren't happy with one of the dishes and got a free dessert to make up for it, bravo

Top outpatient with a great view of the lake

I ordered schnitzel without onions, I was full and it tasted good.

Unfortunately, the restaurant obviously has massive staffing problems. We were told as soon as we sat down that we would have to wait at least an hour. Not a word of regret, no offer of a bread basket or anything similar. The service was not very accommodating and quite unfriendly. When the food came after more than an hour, the spaetzle on two plates were cold. After our complaint, which was accepted without complaint, we waited again for about 15 minutes to be served. The food was quite good, but not outstanding. We cannot recommend the restaurant.

Would be a great location... That would be a great service too! Waiters couldn't be unfriendly! In any case, I don't know anyone unfriendly than the one in Hohenegg! The fact that they then serve expired beer and, when complained about, simply point out that all the bottles of this variety they have in stock are already expired, was reason enough for us and another guest at the next table not to show up here again! 🤪

Expired beer served! Today, July 18th, 2024, around 4 p.m. we were served a Ruppaner 1414 dark with an expiration date: May 30, 24 (…). The complaint was received grumpily and we were told that all of these beers had expired... No apology from the waiter... A guest next door overheard everything and quickly left his seat... They also saw us as guests...

I ordered boiled beef and received a carelessly prepared plate. The vegetables were frozen and the souse was warmed up from a can. Absolutely ok for a snack bar, but not for a restaurant with this price level.

We have eaten here very often. Today I was anything but convinced of the price-performance ratio. With a fish platter for 2 for just under €56, I expect that there won't be any canned or frozen vegetables that are included as a side dish. This was different because there were still fresh vegetables. The 4 different meals were OK, but only that. I have no problem paying more for a meal but then everything should be fine. The service also made a rather lackluster impression. The bottom line is that it doesn't suit us here anymore and we wouldn't come back.

I've been here quite often, especially in the warm season, you can sit outside and enjoy a unique view of the Gnadensee including the ferry service of the Konstanz-Meersburg ferries. The food deserves a 4, they have a lot of dishes on the menu, and I always think about the freshness of the food. But the waiters and staff are extremely friendly and almost all of them adhere to the Covid regulations, as some wear their masks under their noses. We have also celebrated relatives' round birthdays here and everything was always top notch. Many wedding parties are also organized here, as they have the best options due to the approximately 5 to 7 rooms in different sizes. In addition, the prices are absolutely normal and the price-performance ratio is 100% For me it's always worth a spontaneous visit. Arriving by car is not a problem as there is enough parking space. We also recently visited the restaurant. As before, we thought everything was good. The quality of the food, the really good service team and the beautiful view of the Gnadensee (right wing of Lake Constance. Particularly worth mentioning is that the boss always comes to the table, even if they just have a drink and asks about their well-being.

We stayed here on our 2 day short trip. We had cheese spaetzle, which was completely sufficient in terms of portion and tasted perfect. The spaetzle had the perfect consistency and the quantity and cheese used were perfect. The side salad served with it was good, but not a highlight. The service was nice and the highlight was that the chef himself came out and asked whether we were satisfied. I can recommend the restaurant.

Ha sido un habitual aquí por alrededor de 8 años. Sin embargo, desde que asumió el poder y se convirtió en una influencia “báltica” en los restaurantes, las cosas están cambiando. En general, los precios han subido a medida que ha bajado la calidad. Mi último medio de chuletas de cordero fue una verdadera decepción, plato nadando en grasa, verduras demasiado cocinadas. El plato de pescado de la esposa era mucho más pequeño de lo que solía ser también. El jardinero hace un gran trabajo y las vistas sobre el lago son fantásticas, lo que le quita la vista del interior de la década de 1970. Está bien, pero hay mucho mejor en Constanza.

The food is very down-to-earth and tastes good, a highlight was the Panna Cotta dessert, highly recommended. If you are looking for a cozy, quiet restaurant away from tourism with a view of the lake, you have come to the right place.

Update 06-2024: The food wasn't great, poor fries, dry fish, a shame. Toilets are in need of renovation! Food delicious, beer too. The place is great and the service is attentive.

The two of us ordered the Lake Constance fish platter. Why you can find scampi skewers on the Lake Constance fish platter is a mystery to me. The selection of fish wasn't exactly summery. The fish was presented with a selection of vegetables. In my opinion this consisted mainly of frozen ready-made. Vegetables. A pity. Unfortunately I can't recommend it. The Ruppaner Schimmele beer is very good.

An Hot Spots leidet öfter die Qualität. Wenn man ein paar Meter abseits geht, steigt die Qualität. An keiner Durchgangsstraße gelegen, kann man hier Ruhe und Aussicht genießen und sich kulinarisch verwöhnen lassen. Wir haben auf der Terrasse gesessen und den herrlichen Blick auf Bodensee, Fähre und Meersburg genossen. Das Restaurant ist an 7 Tagen die Woche von mittags bis abends geöffnet. Man kann ausgezeichnet speisen. Das Ruppaner Schnitzel mit Spiegelei und Bratkartoffeln war lecker zubereitet; das Zanderfilet mit Gemüse ebenso. Der Koch schaute vorbei und freute sich über das Lob. Der Service war aufmerksam und freundlich. Was will man mehr ?

We were there for german food and ate the Brewery Schnitzel for Lunch. They have comfortable seats with cushions and Umbrellas to sit in the shadow. A nice view over the lake. prices are Ok. We got what we wanted. Awesome german Schnitzel with brown sauce and Bratkartoffeln.

The food is great and the portions are generous. As for the staff, they are very friendly and up-to-date. A great place for lunch or dinner with a beautiful view of the lake.

Dear Mr. Dudic and dear service staff, these were the best Balkan dishes in combination with the Konstanz Ruppaner beer, hospitality and in an ambience on Lake Constance, which must be highlighted here!

The location is unique. The price-performance ratio is no longer consistent, e.g. 23.90 € for cevapcici (a little poor in taste) and 25.90 € for blue trout. The friendliness of the boss and the service staff doesn't change that

The Hohenegg restaurant is a real gem in our community. With its cozy atmosphere and warm service, you will immediately feel at home. The menu offers a delicious selection of dishes, all made with fresh ingredients. Personally, I especially love their homemade desserts, a real treat! The staff is always friendly and attentive, making the visit a completely pleasant experience. Whether for a romantic dinner for two or a convivial celebration with friends and family, the Hohenegg restaurant is always the perfect choice. I can highly recommend it!

Good beer but service a bit lacking in smiles

Great to eat, drive and get great service.

Food was a complete disaster: Cevapcici with bacon flavor, Djuvic rice totally mush, lettuce not cleaned properly, lots of brown leaves. Fish OK Potatoes lukewarm, asparagus completely overcooked, no homemade hollandaise sauce, which also wasn't warm either. Cheese spaetzle with ready-made fried onions and also mushy. Plus the price is simply outrageous for such a service!!! The food came after about 7 minutes - nothing can be fresh. It's a shame, even the view can't save it.

We are here on vacation and have been to the restaurant for the second time. The view from the terrace is magnificent. The food is very tasty and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive.

A truly impressive experience! The food in the Hohenegg Restaurant is simply delicious, with a variety of dishes to delight every palate. Unfortunately we cannot confirm the good reviews. We walked to the Hohenegg restaurant. The location is very nice, overlooking the lake and the drinks are well mixed. However, that was about it in terms of positive things. Unfortunately, the service wasn't very friendly (rather annoyed by the tourists and the many guests), the seat cushions outside were totally old-fashioned and run down, and the tablecloth was dirty. Before we went any further, we went to the toilet inside. Unfortunately the same picture emerged there. The women's toilet was not clean, the soap was empty and the sink was dirty. The interior design in the restaurant is also getting old. We wouldn't come here again. Neither for a drink nor for food.

La nourriture est sans grand intérêt, tout était assez fade et mal présenté. Les prix sont plutôt élevés pour une cuisine d'aussi basse qualité. L'endroit est tout de même sympa et avec une belle vue sur le lac de Constance. A éviter !

The Hohenegg restaurant belongs to the Ruppaner brewery in Konstanz Staad. The location is slightly elevated above Lake Überlingersee with a beautiful view of the lake and Meersburg. The terrace is large and is in front of the restaurant. Unfortunately our reservation didn't work out, but there was enough space in the restaurant. The food is just about average. It has a large selection of dishes, but our food (various salads with fish, Ruppaner Schnitzel) wasn't really tasty; but the portions are large. The Hohenegg is worth it especially for the location and a small meal in between.

The restaurant is beautifully located, unfortunately it looks very run down. Sat outside, inside I don't know what it looks like. The service was very lousy. The cappuccino was more of an espresso with whipped milk, ice cream was ok, but not particularly fine. Menu is diverse,

Top location, very nice outdoor area, shady in the evening with a wonderful view of the lake. Great to drink on hot summer evenings. Parking there and ideal for walking. However, the food was a disaster. The menu was good, but the meat was raw and cold inside for the second time in a row. Spaetzle (cheese) bland and tasteless, they didn't even see cheese. The onions, the onion roast, rubbery and old.
