Fantastic food at reasonable prices

The food is good and drinks are amazing. Traditional German food.

Today, the two of us went to the Alte Keller for dinner. We had booked a table the day before. Arriving a quarter of an hour early wasn't a problem at all. We were very warmly welcomed and shown to our table. The table was beautifully decorated, as was the rest of the restaurant. Everything was very harmonious. We started with bread and lard. It was truly delicious. For our main courses, we chose Jägerschnitzel (hunter's schnitzel) with fries and Sauerbraten (marinated pot roast) with red cabbage and dumplings. First, the Jägerschnitzel. The sauce was absolutely delicious, with fresh mushrooms. Simply superb. The schnitzel was just as good, and the fries were perfect. This is how Jägerschnitzel should taste. Now for the Sauerbraten. It was simply divine. The meat was so tender and flavorful. The sauce, the red cabbage, and the dumplings were all just delicious. The portions were generous. It was a bit of a struggle to finish it all. But it was simply too good not to eat. The service was consistently attentive and very friendly. ... We were completely satisfied and would come back anytime.

On the recommendation of our hotel, we ended up at the Alte Keller and were not disappointed. Super friendly service despite the packed dining room, and the food was absolutely delicious 😋

We only went there for a meal. We enjoyed it very much. A nice little restaurant with good, regional cuisine and friendly staff.

Outstanding service. We were a little early for our reservation and received a very warm welcome despite the restaurant being full. The food arrived very quickly and was also very, very delicious. The apple strudel was a real highlight and I would recommend it to anyone who eats there.

One waitress was super nice and quick, another was a bit cold but professional! The food was excellent, and the drinks service was prompt.

The restaurant was very busy, and some people who hadn't made reservations were unfortunately unable to enjoy such a delicious meal. We had goulash, sauerbraten, and Schäuffele, all three dishes receiving 10 out of 10 points!

A wonderfully beautiful restaurant with fantastic cuisine...we had the shoulder of pork and the quarter of duck...a real treat...the service was very friendly and always smiling, even though the restaurant was full. Definitely recommend making a reservation...we'll be back when we get the chance.

This restaurant left a lasting impression of my first visit to Rothenburg. The warm atmosphere, delicious food, and refreshing beer made for a truly relaxing dining experience, especially thanks to the friendly English-speaking staff. It made for a romantic dinner. I definitely want to return.

Top-notch restaurant. 100% recommended. Be sure to make a reservation, as there are limited spaces. The only drawback is that there are no vegan and vegetarian options: only cheese spaetzle.

Friendly staff and delicious food. We had the shoulder of pork and the juicy goulash. Both were excellent and very plentiful. We had to wait about 30 minutes because we didn't have a reservation. The wait was definitely worth it.

I only used the restaurant, not the hotel. You've suffered so much eating pork cutlets without sauce! Here, you can taste the best schnitzel. It was truly legendary. The mushroom cream sauce was so delicious, and the portion was too much for one person, but I almost finished it all. Haha. Just go here! There's a reason there are so many Google reviews!! I had a dark Paulaner draft beer, and it was also delicious.

High quality food in generous portions served with a smile competently in several languages. For a semi-themed restaurant in a heavily touristifed town this is an appreciated and rare balance of style, quality and efficiency. I would recommend to anyone. House goulash: perfect, soul-feeding. A truly wonderful inn. Very traditional and cozy decor. Delicious beer. The menu isn't overly extensive and has a Franconian delicacy for everyone! The service is very friendly, prompt, and lively. We'd be happy to return!

I wish we had booked to stay longer! Everything was AMAZING, everything from the ambiance to the food was perfect. The Hostess was kind and welcoming. I also have a gluten allergy and she made sure I was taken care of from breakfast to dessert. If you want to eat here be sure to go in and make a reservation because there were a lot of people coming and being turned away to eat because they were so busy.

Foods are delicious, ambiance is so authentic, but service is really slow. You should make reservations, especially on Friday and Saturday. In a nutshell, you should definitely experience the restaurant without worrying the serving time

A real insider tip in Rotenburg! 🥂 Incredibly friendly service, super warm and attentive. The food was fantastic, especially the Schäufele (pork shoulder) – an absolute must! We felt completely at home and will definitely be back. We got the tip from a local – and he was absolutely right. But you definitely have to make a reservation in advance!

We were at Alter Keller. We ordered a schnitzel with fries and mushroom sauce. Unfortunately, the dish was very disappointing: The schnitzel was as dry as a shoe sole, and the fries were tasteless. The sauce only arrived after I specifically asked for it – even though it was supposed to be included. The price of €19 is absolutely unjustified for this quality. I cannot recommend this dish.

An amazing place in Rothenberg. If you're only here for one night, I definitely recommend coming here for dinner. It's amazing. The food is all delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is lovely. You'll have to get there early, though, because they only take reservations for the first seating (5:30 PM), and the rest are first-come, first-served. We arrived at 7 PM and were seated at 7:30 PM, so it wasn't too bad.

All in all, a fantastic experience. The historic flair has been lovingly preserved, from the guest rooms to the rooms. Super friendly service and great food. Even in the most stressful times, the entire team is always friendly. Stay as you are; you gave us a fantastic weekend.

Typical of many bars in Rothenburg... there are plenty of other tourists every day, service and friendliness are overrated. And we were immediately told that only drinks weren't available... so get out of here. We ended up spending our money elsewhere.

What a lovely restaurant! We had to wait because we didn't have a reservation, but it was worth it! We were seated at the Stammtisch with another couple, and that was so nice! The food was delicious, with large portions! The service was excellent. And we met some great new people!

Had unfortunately only 1 night here the room was lovely beautifully clean with lots of nice little touches very comfortable bed and very quiet location although right in the centre you couldn't stay anywhere better.

Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the hotel. However, I do have an opinion about the restaurant. The food there is truly delicious. Absolutely delicious. And the service was excellent. Relaxed, friendly, attentive, and courteous. The only thing I missed was Obazda (traditional Bavarian sausage). But that's really nitpicking. It's definitely turning into a favorite restaurant. A bit off the beaten track, but quiet and relaxed. Simply "superb." Thank you for the wonderful hospitality.

The food tasted nothing special. Unfortunately, our soup arrived lukewarm, the spaetzle were very dry, and the service was rather slow. The portion size was good.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber already feels like you’ve wandered onto the set of a medieval fairy tale. We didn’t stay at the Hotel, we just came to have dinner. We knew we would have to potentially wait for a table, but we had heard good things and were prepared to wait, a lot of people had obviously heard the same things. It is serving traditional German food, and the location feels like a special place to be sharing a meal with people you love. We ordered: Schnitzel with Pommes Frites, the Currywurst with the traditional spiced ketchup and the Schäufele - a pork shoulder slow-roasted with a healthy portion of crackling. We ordered a couple of the litre beers and settled in. The magic is the mix of the food and the setting. You’re walking around a place that feels a bit like a fairytale village, but a place like this makes it feel real and like a home. The pork products in Germany were exceptional, and this place knows how to serve them well, with a straightforward generosity and a litre of good beer.

We were there just for dinner. Quaint and cozy, the service friendly and attentive. The fillet was awful: bland, a disgusting feeling in the mouth, too mushy. Not worth the price. The rest of the food was okay, the Jägerschnitzel, the fries were okay, and the beer was delicious.

We had lunch here. It's a nice, quiet alleyway away from the hustle and bustle, with a stork's nest in the background. The food was delicious, and the service was very friendly. The interior also looked very inviting. Keep in mind that it closes between 1:30 and 5:00 PM.

A quaint Franconian restaurant tucked away in a side street. Advance reservations or early arrival are recommended (open in the evenings from around 5:30 p.m.). Service is courteous and prompt, even when the place is full.

Here you'll still find honest cuisine at a fair price in a great atmosphere. The rooms are cozy and nicely furnished. Everything is super clean. We'd definitely love to come back!

Spent two nights here last month. There were two adults and one teen. First off, the room set up was awesome! I requested one queen and one twin bed and we ended up getting a two room suite. So our son had one room and one room for the adults. It’s a little hard if you have heavy luggage as there are only stairs. But you do get an additional key that lets you in/out a separate door so that you don’t have to go through the dining room. We did not eat meals here but they looked and smelled delicious. This place is well situated inside the walled city, only a block away from the entrance road and maybe two-three blocks to the town square. The view was great, we especially liked seeing the birds nest atop one of the other buildings. We frequently saw the birds feeding and nesting. The windows opened up to the street and neighboring buildings. We very much enjoyed our stay here. We walked to/from the train station with our luggage and it was only about a 15 minute, easy walk (aside from the cobblestones on your rolling bags). I’d definitely stay here again. This was our second time visiting Rothenburg.

The manager came and asked me to order drinks, but I couldn't decide until then, so I said sorry and I couldn't decide yet, but his expression immediately hardened... After that, when I tried to decide on a drink and order, he kept passing me by without looking, so I thought he was a little upset....... I was finally able to order a drink after passing by for the 5th time. I ordered food right away, but... After almost an hour, the manager came and said that he couldn't remember what we ordered and asked me to tell him again. I was really shocked, but I thought it would be a waste to tell him, so I gave him my order again. But this time, the food came out pretty quickly. I couldn't believe he didn't remember my order, and on top of that, I confirmed my order late, so the food came out faster than I thought. You wouldn't serve food that was already cooked, right? ㅠㅠ Anyway, I got the food with such difficulty........ The goulash was salty, and the schönfeller was burnt, so it had a texture that was much worse than the haksen. In the end, I couldn't finish my meal and tried to pay, but the manager must have come with an acquaintance, so he went to another table and chatted. I tried to make eye contact with the other server, but he didn't look at me several times, so I asked him loudly for the bill. Only then did he say he understood and didn't give me the bill. After a while, the manager came and I was able to pay. I don't know if they were being racist on purpose, if the system was bad, or if it was both, but the service was terrible, and the food didn't deserve a good review. I know you can't trust Google reviews, but I think it's better not to go if you're not European. ㅠㅠ

Thank you for the excellent food and the fantastic spot on the terrace. Unfortunately, everything was booked the night before, and we found somewhere else. But this evening was very nice for us and our dog. We got a lovely spot by chance and can only confirm the many positive reviews on Tripadvisor. Very friendly service and excellent food. Wir haben eine Übernachtung in Rothenburg als Zwischenstop für die Reise nach Bayern genutzt. Eine tolles Essen und leckeres Bier. Sehr nette Bedienung und ruhige Lage, abseits des Trubel. Wir können es nur weiterempfehlen.

The waiters were arrogant and rude. It is completely overrated. You may find yourself humiliated by the waiters.

If you're looking for the charm of a well-maintained old building in the heart of a medieval town, this is the perfect place. The decor is rustic and quaint. If you're looking for something cool, functional, and modern, this isn't the place for you. The hotel owners and staff are very accommodating. We booked the most important meal of the day (breakfast), and it was simply perfect and we felt at home. The only downside is that, due to the location in a romantic side street, there are no on-site parking options. However, the hotel offers affordable options outside the city walls, a 10- to 15-minute walk away. We'd love to stay there again if the opportunity arises 😀

Romantic hotel in the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The room was quite large and clean. The staff was always friendly and accommodating. Breakfast could only be booked at the hotel for €10 per day. If you dine in the restaurant, you absolutely have to try the regional cuisine. It was excellent!

Today we had dinner and drinks in this super nice restaurant, the service is very friendly. We got it as a tip from a good friend who also lives in Rothenburg and has a shop (the top photographer Alexander Möller !!!)

Wir waren relativ pünktlich am Alten Keller. Ein Tisch für 5 Personen hat trotzdem geklappt. Wir hatten Zeit bis 19:30 Uhr. Das hat gut gereicht. Getränke kamen flott und das Essen war lecker. Dazu eine sehr nette Bedienung . Klare Empfehlung .

We hadn't booked a table, but were then placed at the "stam tisch" together with an English and a Dutch couple (3 real kingdoms :-) ). Really nice to meet other travelers that way. Ate at the restaurant (didn’t know it was a hotel until now) it’s the best bavarian food I’ve ever had. It’s super authentic german food and I am surprised such small town has such high quality restaurants. Server lady speaks good English and was very kind. Place was packed but they cooked fast and good. We will definitely come to rothenburg again just to eat here again.

Authentic Franconian / Bavarian atmosphere with all of the deliciousness you’d expect from the moment you walk in the door and are greeted by the wonderful aromas of pork schnitzel, pork shoulder, beef goulash over hearty bread dumplings or the steak of the day, expertly grilled by chef Marcus, along with his wife Miriam who runs a well-oiled operation that excels at service, quality and value. There is no better place in town for traditional food and excellent Munich draft beer.

Lekker en goed eten vooral als van een stukje vlees houdt. Bediening was vriendelijk . Reserveren is eigenlijk een must. Wij hadden geluk dat er net een tafeltje voor 2 vrij was.

Didnt stay in the hotel, just ate in the restaurant. Slammed with only 2 servers, but they covered it with speed and grace. Food was top notch and the decor is old like the rest of the town. Highly reccommend.

Very nice and quaint hotel. The service is excellent. And then the food. We had a beautifully prepared Franconian Schäufle, it was really tasty and the other dishes looked very good. If you stay at the hotel and arrive by car, be careful, you are only allowed to park for 5 minutes to check in. The city has very motivated police officers, but the hotel staff are also quick to help you if things get serious with the police officers.

Locale ben posizionato in zona tranquilla del centro paese. Ceniamo all'interno e godiamo dell' atmosfera tipicamente bavarese. Personale molto gentile, siamo serviti da una signora in abiti tipici. I piatti, cucina tedesca, ottimamente preparati. Sapori bilanciati, giusti di sale, cotti alla perfezione e decisamente abbondanti. Ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo. Una piacevole serata.

Wir waren heute mit der Familie zum Abendessen da und haben die Burger der Wochenkarte gegessen. Einfach genial! Super leckerer Doppeldecker Burger mit ausreichend Käse, Soße und sonstigen Extras. Dazu noch Curley Fries und wir waren pappsatt und zufrieden. Dazu noch wirklich schneller und freundlicher Service. Was will man mehr :) Jederzeit wieder….absolut empfehlenswert!!!

One of the old fashion, local spots ... Nothing against. Big portions, reasonably, but average quality of food. So, if are you looking for typical local food in hundreds years old building - take it.

We were in Rottenburg for three nights and our best meal was here. The service was great, prices reasonable and the food was very good. Sausages, beef goulash, and spaetzle w/ chicken were delicious. And, they will take a credit card (we found that wasn't true at all restaurants!).

Great restaurant. We arrived shortly after opening and got a table. 10 minutes later all tables were occupied. So either make a reservation or be there on time. The plates are well filled. Everyone will be full there. Price-performance is absolutely fair and the employees are very friendly and patient :) Gladly again.
