Very good food. Steak on point, goulash a bit salty. Good local wine! Also very attentive service. Reservation is an advantage, alternatively longer waiting time.

The room is very antique, and the distance between the toilet and the wall is a bit small, but the shower room is larger and the two rooms are separated. It may be that the historical wooden house is not well soundproofed, but the shower room is heated enough. The dinner downstairs is delicious, no I thought it was quite popular and there were many people during the meal time, so I ordered mushroom fried steak and fries, and the daily soup, which was very good. The breakfast was simple fruits and bread, and the homemade strawberry jam was delicious.

Terrible Racist Boss！If you are Asian, please avoid this restaurant. Our family ordered six main courses and one soup. When we realised it was too much food, I politely asked if we could have small plates. The female boss responded with a rude and snobby expression, saying, "We charge one Euro for one plate. How many plates do you want?" We were shocked. When I confirmed with her if this applied to empty plates, she informed us, "In Germany, we don't share food. This is your main course, and this is my main course. We don't share!" We come from Australia and have been to a lot of Western restaurants, but we have never been treated like this. This experience has ruined our time in Europe and hurt my kids' feelings a lot. When I explained to them that maybe this lady just had a bad day, they said, "No, she was talking to other German customers happily." I should have read other comments here from Asian people before I visited. I can't believe such racism in hospitality can survive. It’s unacceptable to foster such an unwelcoming environment. Everyone deserves to feel respected and valued, and unfortunately, this restaurant fails on both counts. ——— Very well, the owner replied. I haven’t told everyone what we went through at the beginning. Were you blaming the customers for being late because of your internal communication error? Excuse me? I personally went to the restaurant at noon to reserve a dinner table. The staff initially told me 5:30. When she realised we had six people, she changed it to 7:00 and wrote it down at that time in front of me. When our group of six arrived on time, the manager told me I had missed the reservation time and pointed to the book, saying it should be 5:30. I immediately noticed my name written next to 7:00. So I politely explained the whole story. it was originally 5:30, but when the staff saw we were six people, she changed it to 7:00. The female manager rolled her eyes and said she didn’t know, then turned and walked away, leaving us awkwardly standing there. After a while, I asked a young waitress, and she told us to wait outside to see if there would be a table available. So, we were forced out despite having a reservation. My elderly parents and kids, six of us, stood outside in the cold wind waiting. After 10 minutes, we finally got a table and were allowed to go in. Once again, I‘v never had such a terrible experience in any other restaurant in the world. Maybe there is something new I need to learn here.

We waited a few minutes to get a table at this popular restaurant but it was worth it. The atmosphere, the setting, the food and Laura's service, our experience was fabulous, we will come back! Danke!

Retrofit interior that inspires you of medieval era, especially waitresses costumes and ornaments are sophisticated, not to mention a cuisine was wonderful with huge portion.

We had reserved in advance - you should definitely do so. There are relatively few places. That's exactly what the restaurant is all about. Really delicious food, cozy atmosphere and super nice service. And there is also a large children's menu.

We had a delicious meal here. The fries were wonderfully crispy, the schaufele was delicious and fell right off the bone, so tender. The schnitzel was also delicious. If we were here another evening we would definitely have eaten here again. And I don't understand the 1 star reviews with "unfriendly". We were helped very kindly even though we did not have a reservation and it was already quite full. If we ever come this way again, we will definitely eat here again!

Fortunately, I asked a German friend to help me book the restaurant first. The food is delicious, the waiters are friendly, and the food portions are large. Taiwanese people will not be able to finish the main meal per person.

We didn't like it and I think we were the only ones unlucky. I received so many good opinions from friends and neighbors that Alter Keller is the best restaurant in town. Our pork chops were fatty and not crispy, and the fries were not baked. We were sitting at the kitchen and we had the impression that automatically when they heard that we were speaking Polish, the owner became cold. The neighbors next door had beautiful, large pork chops, great looking dishes. And we got Zonek 🙄 Pity

Make reservations as a precaution. Dogs are allowed in. It's worth stopping here because the food is delicious and plentiful. My wife couldn't finish her schnitzel, but I only just finished my Schäufele because it was very tasty. Plus one or two delicious beers and a delicious apricot from Scheible, that's all you need.

You may have noticed me on your last visit. :) As the hospitality industry gets tough, I need to speak up for my restaurant to my guests and future guests. We are one of the smallest hotels & restaurants in the heart of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, we all do our best and work with passion. We are all trained professionals. Each meal is freshly prepared by our chef and owner Markus. Every guest is warmly welcomed by Miriam, his wife and owner, who works in the restaurant and hotel. Both work 24/7. Due to Corona, many hotels and restaurants have lost their staff, closed their kitchens and no longer serve meals. The side effects are that not every guest who will have a hotel room for the night will also find a place for dinner. The calculation doesn't add up. We've had a lot of frustrated potential guests lately who we had to turn away because we were fully booked. As well as telling us that they have been looking for a place in the city in the evening for a long time. However, if you don't reserve a table, you will be rejected everywhere and have only booked a bed & breakfast hotel yourself. Please note that we try to accommodate as many guests as possible, but we have limited space, places and time. Since we only have 13 tables in the restaurant, we are quickly booked out. In order to find you a way out of this stressful situation and to satisfy your desire for a warm meal after a long day of hiking and sightseeing, we have our reservations in time windows from 17:30-19:30 and 19:30-22:00 clock changed. Our tables on the terrace in the summer are usually only kept on good luck for your spontaneous visits. If you are the lucky one we can accommodate even though we are fully booked. We ask you for a moment of calmness. We need 5-10 minutes to clear the table for you freely and cleanly. We have to plan our few staff carefully, and with limited regular working hours for our employees, we usually close our kitchen just after 8 pm. Due to the lack of staff and chefs, most other restaurants have to do the same and close their kitchens early. Most of my guests are stressed out on vacation and I really wonder why? I can understand that traveling is exhausting, but when you bring your stress with you and try to rush through your dinner, you have to deal with ruining it yourself. We are a small Bavarian-Franconian steak restaurant. The good ratings come from our guests who appreciate authentic German home cooking. We are not awarded by Michelin stars or similar classifications. We never said we were a high-end restaurant. We serve honest meals. Each guest has a different taste and expectation that we try to meet every day. As we are not a fast-food chain we try to be as quick as possible, but our staff is limited by two hands and two feet. On weekends and busy evenings, we expect you to bring some time when you enter our very busy restaurant. If you relax and take your time, your entire experience will be enjoyable. The last few weeks have been busy and exhausting. We had some "nice" experiences. I can understand that things are getting frustrated, but there's no reason to use me, and the rest of our staff, as your bad mood and stress outlet. Please remember we are all humans. We spent a very nice evening in a great restaurant! The service was super friendly and direct. The quality of the food is really good. The beef goulash was cooked perfectly and the pork shoulder was also wonderful. Always happy, it was definitely worth the wait. (On public holidays at 6 p.m. approx. 20 minutes)

We spontaneously visited the old cellar yesterday evening and, thanks to the very friendly service, got two seats after a short time. The restaurant is rustic and comfortably furnished. There are only a few dishes, but they are down-to-earth and very tasty. A freshly tapped, good Zwickel beer was also part of the range. Good atmosphere, we laughed a lot and also downed a few bloodwursts in an international group. Special mention should be made of the great service!!!

We had a lovely day in Rothenburg and to top it all off we stopped at the restaurant here and weren't disappointed. The restaurant is very cozy, the waitress was very friendly and took great care of our well-being, the food was very tasty, the portions are plentiful and everything is freshly prepared and you can tell by the taste. We were not disappointed and will be happy to come back. We can only recommend this restaurant.

Siamo andati nel pomeriggio per prenotare un tavolo per la serata e la responsabile ha detto che non facevano più prenotazioni (da premettere che alcuni tavoli avevano il biglietto riservato). Ritorniamo dopo un oretta, tavoli tutti pieni e la cameriera ci invita ad accomodarci fuori ed aspettare l'uscita di qualche cliente e tavolo libero. Alla fine riusciamo a sederci e ordiniamo.....Stinco di maiale finito...la cameriera ci consiglia un'altro piatto sempre a base di maiale. Purtroppo non era quello meglio riuscito: carne un po secca e crauti lasciati tutti nel piatto. Mi aspettavo qualcosina di meglio.....

Wer gut Essen möchte, muss unbedingt hier hin. Alles ist frisch und Hausgemacht. Ich hatte Geschnetzeltes mit selbstgemachten Späzle...es war ein Traum. Schön finde ich, die Kinderkarten, hier fehlten mir jedoch paar Stifte, also entweder selbst mitnehmen oder vtl besorgt der Inhaber welche :) Das Lokal ist gut besucht, was ich bei der guten Küche verstehen kann. The Schäufele was good and very hot. Unfortunately the crust wasn't good, it stuck to your teeth. However, in general you can't expect much in the high sessong.

We were probably just unlucky. The starter was ok (lard bread, salad), but the main course was unfortunately a disaster. The Schäufele advertised came without a crust - and after putting it under the salamander again, it was burnt and inedible. “I could choose something else from the many delicious things on the menu.” Unfortunately, the look at the plates of my companions said something different. Pale schnitzel and soggy fries... I lost my appetite. Unfortunately, the service wasn't very professional either... so you won't be seeing us here again any time soon. But as I said, probably just bad luck 😉

Restaurant rating: Schnitzel and fries limp, not cross-fried. No decorations on the plate. Waitress unfriendly. You get the feeling that the next tourists are coming anyway. Not recommendable.

No reservation but still able to grab a table after about 10-15min waiting outside. Great service and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Restaurant rating: great food. We had the children's schnitzel and various steaks. Everything was perfect (and we are spoiled for steaks) and prepared in a timely manner. Service was great. For dessert we can recommend the apple strudel with ice cream. The best meal in Rothenburg so far!

The restaurant is really good and can only be recommended. In most restaurants you can now get frozen, industrially produced products and only rarely home-made dishes. Here they still attach great importance to the quality and homemade preparation of the food. Here you get home-style food in a rustic atmosphere. The staff is friendly and quick. Considering the service offered, the prices are absolutely reasonable.

I visited the restaurant and ordered the famous German roasted pork shoulder. It is very yammee with local beer. The portion is large, even for me, who is from Texas. Highly recommended.

It looks like locals are dining there As soon as we entered the door, after informing several people, the busy waiter said wait a moment, and we were left aside for 5 minutes without being ignored. We spent two lovely days here. It is a beautiful old inn where we had a very good night's sleep and dinner. Great atmosphere in the old inn and very accommodating hosts. We will be back.

Probably the best jagerschnitzel I've ever had. And I've had jagerschnitzel all over this world. Perfect pork brown gravy. The interior decor is "old stuff nailed to the wall." I love it, reminds me of my mom's house. Please stop by and have a meal.

The interiors of the restaurant are stunning, the small details are making wonders. On our first visit we ordered a schnitzel and beef goulash, and both dishes were incredibly delicious. You can't find a better goulash in this city! On our second visit we ordered the soup of the day (potato soup) and a schnitzel, as we wanted something light to save some place for the desert - apple strudel. The soup was creamy and tasty, the schnitzel was great, and the strudel was simply heavenly! The prices are great for the location and quality.

In the middle of the old town, a good home-style German restaurant. Starting with the asparagus cream soup (5☆) Veal goulash with noodles, tender and juicy (5☆) My wife had Schäufele, also very tasty, especially the fries were great.

Cozy restaurant with delicious food and large portions. When we asked, we found out that 2 women do the counter and service alone and the boss cooks alone in the kitchen. Big compliment. Even though they offer €52 per hour, they can't find any help. Very sad

I ordered Haksen + Schnitzel + Today's Soup (Asparagus). In the case of Haksen, the price was not very expensive, around 19 euros. It is served together with a potato dish that is expected to be made by grinding potatoes, mixing starch, and kneading it again like gnocchi. Haksen is crispy enough to feel hard on the outside, but very soft on the inside. There was a difference in taste that made it different from other Hakseon. In the case of schnitzel, I ordered an extra 2 euros to get a schnitzel with button mushrooms and brown sauce. In conclusion, it is safe to say that the main body is button mushrooms. The sauce and button mushrooms go well together and are good to eat with schnitzel. The level of satisfaction was higher than that of Haksen. Today's soup was quite salty. I don't really recommend it. In conclusion, I highly recommend Haksen and Schnitzel. The interior is also very antique and pretty. You are kind. The bathroom is also okay.

We stayed at the Alter Keller accommodations last week and it was incredible!!! Central location, clean rooms, and fabulous food. I was in contact with Miriam for a few months and she was so helpful. She booked the room and even came in on the off days to get us checked in. Last, but not least, the breakfast included is absolutely fabulous. By far the best breakfast we had in Germany.

Wow - I actually just wanted to reserve a table for 7 people for lunch... There was a table, but we should have been there at 12:00 and not 12:30?! Why ? Was then fobbed off quite harshly by a colleague and thrown out of the line. Not bad how potential guests are treated here! Actually not worth a star.

Nice, touristy restaurant in a nice, touristy town. Unfortunately the food is also touristy. Pork shoulder with ready-made sauce. Meat quality at the RIPE steak is rather so-so. Don't kid yourself. Here you get exactly what you want “tourist attractions!” the reviews are probably from people who think brown sauce is great.

Showed Sunday evening at 6:30 with no reservation. They kindly found a way to seat us in 5 minutes even though every table was occupied. The atmosphere was lively and it was obviously a local favorite with families and large boisterous groups mingling comfortably! The service was excellent and friendly…even to us obviously out of place Americans! ;-) The lamb, goulash, and schnitzel were melt in your mouth good. I wish I was here more than one day!

This restaurant is NOT dog friendly. Went with my less than 10 lbs mini dachshund this evening and was asked if I had a blanket for my dog as people might be allergic. Not sure if I was expected to wrap her like a burrito?! I travelled 14 hours by plane- no blanket. Obviously, I love my doggo and decided to leave. We made reservations and this was not mentioned when I said I would be coming with my little dog. Other restaurants in Germany even have a dog bed at the table! This is not the usual German hospitality for dogs. I think the hair on my clothes would be just as bad as any hair she would shed. She is a smooth hair. Went to another restaurant where she was welcomed! She was a good girl and slept the whole time next to me. We had a great dinner elsewhere!! If you are travelling with your beautiful doggo- your family member- pick a different place!

A quaint restaurant in the beautiful town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Excellent food and very good service. Child friendly. Highly recommended as everything is really freshly prepared.

Great inn with a nice historical atmosphere. There aren't that many seats, so it's always best to reserve. But it is really nicely decorated, everything is clean and tidy. The large selection of steaks is particularly recommended. Meat lovers will get their money's worth here. The other dishes are also super delicious. From Franconian Schäufele, great schnitzel dishes and also fish dishes, there is something for everyone.
