Jaipur in Freiburg im Breisgau

By far one of the worst experiences in recent years. Plate cold, drinks forgotten, naan bread that was ordered only came when the plate was almost eaten (so that the food doesn't get colder). The meat, sauces and side dishes were also rather bland or tasteless. Too bad. All in all, unfortunately not a recommendation.

The host was rather abrupt and cold in fact not at all accommodating when he saw that we were looking to eat dinner and had a small baby. When we requested him if we could do a take out instead the answer was a flat no. A pretty cold and an unwelcoming person. Sorry but it was not what I was expecting at an Indian place that too which is called Jaipur. Disappointed!

We had been to this restaurant with my infant daughter and it was an awesome experience. The staff, food, location and ambiance everything was great. We have tried mango lassi, dal and mixed veg biryani and liked all the dishes. The cook has adjusted the spiciness according to our daughter and she too has enjoyed the food.

As indian craving for north indian food. Food quality is okay. But Naan and indian breads was the best which made the day (food)

Food was amazing and authentic. But the waiters and service was really bad. There is a clear difference in the way they treat fellow Indians and Germans assuming that we don’t speak German. Just to be clear, we speak German at a native level. Receiving this kind of service from an Indian restaurant is really disappointing!

Heerlijk gegeten. Echt Indiaas! Goed opletten, want je moet met de trap omhoog. De zeer vriendelijke bediening, dacht mee en deed er alles aan om ons, inclusief hond, een fijne avond te bezorgen. Azat (vrijheid) kwam rennend onze doggy bag nabrengen. Zeer fijne gastheer!

Delicious Indian food, amazing naans and large portions.

Food could have been tasty if it was hot and seasoned. Chicken fried to perfection, very good. However, it also had to be re-salted. The service staff wasn't exactly unfriendly, but not in a way that made you feel comfortable either.

Very arrogant and unfriendly reception. We had been to this restaurant around 6.45 pm with kids and elderly parents . Kids were very hungry and we wanted to dine in but first the manager/owner denied accommodating us without reservation and in a couple of minutes he managed to prepare a table for six but on a condition to finish the dinner in an hour . Acceptable the condition somewhat reluctantly. But just before taking the seats he came up with another bizarre condition of cover up charge of 17.50 EUR per head (i.e one must order for minimum €17.50). Atrocious and obnoxious behavior. I told him simply that he cannot decide what and for how much we should eat. At once we quit the place and found a better restaurant nearby. Will never recommend this restaurant

The restaurant was great very nice location. The dining experience was also good.

The food was good but we were very poorly received. The servers were quite friendly but the manager was very aggressive and disrespectful. When we arrived he started by telling us aggressively that sometimes the card payment terminal didn't work and that we might have to pay in cash IF it didn't work. Then it strangely transformed into "cash only" even though there was a payment terminal. My partner was not very comfortable because he was very aggressive and insistent on cash. At the end of the meal we asked the waiters to try to pay by card (to avoid having to go out and find a bank), which one waiter did, the manager came rushing in and shouted at his waiters because he was very unhappy that we were trying to pay by card, he did not agree at all and approached my partner, intimidating her and shouting "I warned you, I 'Cash said! Not only is it very strange, even suspicious, to get so angry with everyone because we're trying to use the payment terminal (if it hadn't worked we would have simply gone looking for cash, we don't see). not the problem to try) and above all his behavior was disrespectful and unacceptable, he scared my partner. I don't recommend this restaurant at all, too bad for the other employees who seem competent but no one should treat customers like that

The food was great and flavourful the location was great (the sign is on the road but need to go in the passage and take the stairs to go up to the terrace) and interior was nicely decorated with professional kitchen staff behind the counter. The only negative thing was the rice which wasn't fully cooked nor fluffy (note to the management/ chef). Luckily, we're not as much interested in rice as we are on great flavourful curries. The mixed starter was a great selection which I recommend and seekh kabab was perfectly done (often I have ordered it in some places that were obvious being frozen store-bought but not this one).

One of the best Indian restaurant except from Nepal and India for me. The palak paneer was full of flavor and I finally found a chai tea that tastes like it does in Nepal. Bravo bravo!!!

Chicken related food is the best but lamb related dishes are not good at all. I will recommend here chicken biryani which I liked the most. Price is too high compared to all restaurants nearby which is not justified as per its taste. I will recommend to visit occasionally. Hopefully jaipur restaurant will improve its lamb related menus and review it's over inflated price. Thanks for the food.

We ate at Jaipur for the first time yesterday and were thrilled, so you really get something for your money, the portions are really big and you go home full and satisfied - you can even take home the best mango lassi take! Unfortunately I had to deduct a star from the service because it took a little longer, but that doesn't mean the world will end. We'd love to come back😊

Super delicious food. I had the vegetable curry ("Mix Veg Curry") and I thought it was great. I can also absolutely recommend naan bread (as a side dish) and mango lassi.

Waren vor einem Jahr hier zum ersten Mal essen und die Empfehlungen vom Personal waren hervorragend. Wir haben das Restaurant heute wieder besucht und unsere Erwartungen wurden übertroffen. Super freundlich, super lecker und wieder super gute Empfehlungen. Die hervorragende Beratung ging über die Karte hinaus und uns wurde eine Abwandlung eines Gerichtes bereitet - einfach nur super. 👍🏼

Friendly servers and tasty food

The food was delicious. They had more varieties in their starters which was different from other restaurants. My colleague ordered a paneer dish. The paneer was really soft and fresh. The breads were also very tasty.

I liked the food and the service was mostly friendly. There is a small deduction because the entire restaurant smelled extremely burnt twice during our visit.

We arrived a little early, but were greeted warmly and welcomed. The food was very, very good and the staff, as written, were very friendly. Price performance is top. Can recommend this fine restaurant.

Rarely have I experienced such a friendly boss/waiter in a restaurant. Half an hour before opening we were standing outside looking at the menu when the door opened to us with the words “it's cold outside, come in”. The service inside was so sensational from start to finish. The food also matches the rest of the experience. Very tasty, gladly again. Thank you very much😊

Das Essen war lecker, wie man aber vom Personal begrüßt wurde, eher unhöflich bzw als seien wir nicht wirklich willkommen. Auch gegenüber einem fremden anderen Besucher bekam ich mit, wie einer vom Personal ziemlich überheblich antwortete, nur weil der Besucher beim ersten Mal nicht verstanden hatte, wie viel das Essen am Ende kostete (er war am zahlen). Es waren ungefähr vier bis fünf Leute vom Personal im Einsatz und keiner von denen erweckte auch nur annähernd ein Gefühl von Gastfreundschaft, was sehr schade war. Wäre ich nicht mit dem Essen zufrieden gewesen, würde ich wahrscheinlich nicht mehr kommen.

Jaipur ist für mich mit Abstand der beste Inder in Freiburg und Umland. Das essen schmeckt bombastisch; angerichtet in traditionell indischem Geschirr. Es gibt eine wundere Auswahl- auch für vegetarier! Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Fast wie eine Urlaubsreise. Von uns 5 Sterne und es wird sicher nicht der letzte Besuch gewesen sein. Kleiner Tipp: die Mango Lassi ist ein MUSS ( schmeckt ebenfalls hervorragend! )

Hard to rate because of two very extreme and opposite impressions. The food was truly wonderful and for that reason I won't go below 4 stars, but our waitress was extremely rude. Simple requests for things like tap water and separate payment were met with exaggerated disapproving facial expressions and eye rolls and there was a complete lack of politeness during any of our interactions with her. The other waiter was perfectly friendly and I'm sad I even have to write this review - were it not for the rude treatment we received, this would probably have become my favorite restaurant in Freiburg. I really hope this feedback will be read and taken to heart, because someone with this kind of attitude should not be working in the hospitality industry.

The food and service was amazing

I like Indian food , service were quick enough. Food was tasty , I tried Lamb Vindaloo and chicken curry masala which served with basmati rice. Lamb was nice with vindaloo sauce and it’s hot ,But chicken not . I asked for sauce which should served without asking .

Von dem Essen war ich enttäuscht: zu einem Chicken Tikka Eisbergsalat und roher Paprika ist eher europäisch als indisch. Das Ambiente erinnert mich eher an eine Kantine - das wirkt alles sehr steril. Für das Gebotene finde ich die Preise zu hoch.

Ich kam mittags allein mit Hund und wurde nicht freundlich begrüßt, ich hatte direkt den Eindruck, als seien wir nicht erwünscht. Ich habe nach einem Tisch in einer ruhigeren Ecke gefragt, das gab es für mich nicht, ich sollte mich gleich vorn mitten in den Gang setzen. Später sah ich, dass es sehr wohl im hinteren Bereich des Restaurants noch kleinere Tische in der Ecke gab, ohne Reservierungsschild. Auf die Frage, ob ich ein Gericht mit Brot statt Reis bestellen kann, bekam ich auch ein Nein. Ich weiß nicht, was das Problem ist, einfach die Beilage zu tauschen? Es wurde mir auch nicht angeboten, Brot dazuzubestellen. Einfach nein sagen und weitergehen. Das Essen war auch nur ok, der Basmati war noch recht hart, es gab viel zu viel Reis und viel zu wenig von dem eigentlichen Gericht, die Portion fand ich persönlich jetzt für über 15 Euro sehr klein. Authentisch hat es auch nicht geschmeckt, die Sauce war eher fad. Das Ambiente war ok, ich würde das Restaurant aufgrund der geringen Gastfreundschaft nicht weiterempfehlen. Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass der Gast hier nicht an erster Stelle steht, schade.

Leider alles höchstens durchschnittlich: das Essen war geschmacklich OK, mehr aber auch nicht. Da habe ich schon schon häufig deutlich besser indisch gegessen. Der Service war leider schlecht: die Vorspeisenteller wurden beim Servieren der Hauptspeise einfach stehengelassen, während des gesamten Abends wurden wir nicht ein Mal gefragt, ob wir noch Getränke oder etwas anderes wünschen.

Pretty good tasting North Indian dishes, with huge naans/rotis. The service was quite slow, we waited quite long for our order to arrive. But to be fair, the restaurant was also very full at the time. The restaurant is centrally located and at a easy walkable distance from tourist destinations.

Disappointing Indian quisine. It was edible - and nothing more. All precooked, nothing fresh. It took at least 15 minutes (on a Monday evening) before we even were asked what we wanted to drink. Atmosphere is rather soulless. Waiter (owner/manager?) who brought us to our table was grumpy. The waittress was friendly, though.

Het voedsel was redelijk lekker. Niet overweldigend goed maar zeker de moeite waard. De bediening was zeer matig. Het was eindeloos lang wachten op service, en uiteindelijk zijn we maar naar binnen gegaan om te betalen in plaats van nog wat te bestellen, zoals we van plan waren.

Delicious food with complex flavors. More like Indian food from the home than from a restaurant as many Indian restaurants use too much oil or have less refined spicing.

Had a good experience at 28 year old Indian restaurant in Freiburg. We had one of the best dal makhani in Europe in last 1 year. We were hoping to the thali, but apparently that is available only during lunch time. I think they can do a better job at writing this clearly in their marketing material. So, we ordered a 2 person set menu with pakoras & papads as starters, 3 dishes in main course with naan & rice, and dessert. They were able to accommodate a mix of veg and non veg dishes in main course. Our son loved the pakoras. He even ate baingan (brinjal/eggplant) and cauliflower pakoras besides the usual potato ones. In main course we had dal makhani, chicken tikka masala and shahi paneer with a huge naan, rice & raita . Dal was amazing!!! Shahi paneer was more like a sweeter paneer tikka masala, but was nice. Chicken was not great, though better than most places we have tried in Europe. Naan and rice were pretty well prepared as well. Overall everything was tasteful. Finally, in dessert our son was hoping to get gulab jamun - but it was finished. He was disappointed, but then the alternate Kulfi option was given and was pretty decent too. In short, pretty legit Indian food, though a little higher on price side. The icing on cake was saunf at the exit point - which is rare to find here :)

Völlig konfuse Kellner. Nach 30 Minuten kam jemand zur Bestellung, aber erst auf Zuruf. Getränke kamen dann nochmal 30 Minuten später. Das Essen war widerum recht gut. Uns wurde im Nachhinein erläutert, dass zwei Kellner plötzlich erkrankt sind - daher ein Stern extra.
