Hus op'n Diek - Fischrestaurant in Cuxhaven

We were there last weekend, and of the three restaurants, this one was the "worst." The noodle soup was poorly prepared and tasted of nothing.

The portions are reasonable for the price and sufficient to satisfy your hunger. The food also tastes good. The service is fast, friendly, and customer-oriented. The ambiance is distinctive, but the tables could be cleaner, although it's not a disaster in terms of cleanliness.

I had a burger with fries – they were quite good, the fries were a bit over-salted. Service was super friendly – ​​top-notch. Then came the bill 😂 HELP With the burger, I also got three drinks, and when the bill came to almost €30, I was shocked. A 0.3-liter Coke costs €4.50 – for comparison, the 0.4-liter Coke costs €4.60 and a 0.5-liter Coke costs €4.90. Unfortunately, we didn't check the prices of the drinks beforehand, as pretty much all of them are the same price. But this was by far the most expensive Coke ever. And I think that's totally excessive. They also charge an extra €1 for ketchup and mayo. So, the whole lunch menu isn't worth it anymore 😂 I think such additional costs should be mentioned at the table.

The fish plates were sumptuous, the fish nicely breaded, but unfortunately cooked a bit too long, with some of the protein already seeping out. A little less heat, and I'd be happy :) Otherwise, a very nice atmosphere, a great Nordic shop.

Everything is just right here! The food is excellent, the service is excellent (special requests were not forgotten), and the location on the dike is perfect! A definite recommendation!

In recent years, I've avoided this restaurant because I've been disappointed by the food several times. Now, on August 19, 2025, I was here again for lunch. I had "Freshly caught and juicy plaice fillets on a vegetable and potato pan" for €22.90. I was so excited about it. It was truly a delight. And the presentation was beautiful, too. So I decided to order the exact same dish again a day later. Unfortunately, it wasn't. From the two photos, you can perhaps see why I was disappointed. What a shame!

Attentive service, typically furnished, excellent fish dishes

Delicious fish, friendly service. Only the plaice was cooked a bit too long. The beer was served well chilled with an ice-cold mug, as Zwick'l beer should be 😄 We were here twice because of the proximity to the harbor and the accommodation.

We absolutely wanted to eat fish and burgers on our vacation. We went here because they allow dogs. The burger was incredibly delicious, and the sauces were amazing. Kudos to the chef. My shrimp pasta was also very, very tasty; I can't say anything negative. And the young waitress was also really, really nice and attentive. We also gave him a big thumbs-up for that. Excellent Seafood in the heart of Cuxhaven. We dropped by on recommendation from the concierge from the Stadt Hotel and were not disappointed. The restaurant was busy but service was good and the food beautiful prepared. I can recommend the "Krabbensuppe", the Labskaus and the Red Seabass. All masterful seasoned, prepared and plated.

We were unfortunately a bit disappointed: the pan-fried fish came as a single type of fish, was quite dry, and the mustard sauce was too sweet. Instead of the whole plaice we ordered, a fillet arrived, but without prior notice, as they were out of whole plaice. I expected advance notice and a question about whether I wanted to change my order. The service was also really bad: the wrong drinks were served several times, once even with the claim that we had ordered that way – after eight prompt protests, the waiter was understanding. After the meal, our dishes sat unsightly on the table for quite a long time, stacked by us to make room, while two waitresses very consistently looked in another direction and swapped tea lights. The fact that you're not allowed to take a close look at the compass roses on the ceiling and the lampshades (north is somewhere different on each one, east and west are reversed on the large one, what's marked northwest is actually NNW, etc.) isn't explicitly included in this review, but it would be embarrassing for ME (especially at a seafood restaurant by the sea). This was a one-time visit for us.

Three months ago, we were there with 10 people: everything was perfect – great service, super friendly, and the food was fantastic anyway. Today, four of us came, looking forward to it… and then: the food was great again, but the service? Apparently on summer vacation. No hello, no "Nice to see you," not even a quick glance at the table. Drinks? None. And on a hot day, all we heard over and over again was, "Our colleague will be right there" – we think she's still stuck in traffic somewhere. 😅 Dessert? Wasn't even mentioned. At the end, there was a showdown: a long wait before we were finally allowed to pay. Yes, the place was full—we understand. But sometimes small things are enough: a smile, a quick "Everything OK?", or a fresh drink. We take it in stride, because the food was great again. And we'll be back—hoping that the service will be back from vacation next time, too. 😉

What can we say about the food? Absolutely delicious, for both fish lovers and meat eaters! Prices are reasonable for a spa resort, but not too expensive! Lunch: hake fillet with fried potatoes and green beans, Wiener Schnitzel with vegetables and boiled potatoes, two Coca-Colas (0.3l and 0.4l), and a cappuccino for under €50. The service was super friendly! We'll be back next time we're in Cuxhaven!

We were looking for a restaurant on Sunday evening. We either found restaurants where the kitchen was already closed or where they only accepted cash. We finally found the restaurant at 8:30 p.m., three minutes before closing time, and they practically saved us from starvation. The food was wonderful and I highly recommend it.

Great fish dishes, fresh and delicious. The service is friendly and takes time for guests. After enjoying our first visit so much, we immediately returned for a second visit during our vacation. We would definitely visit the restaurant again and recommend it to anyone visiting Cuxhaven.

Well, what do you expect when visiting a restaurant in a seaside town? We found all of that at Huso'pn Diek. The menu is excellent, quality is top-notch, service is professional, and prices are reasonable. We'll be back. Yesterday we were at Huso'pn Diek again with friends. You wouldn't believe it, BUT the service has improved even further. It was very busy, the food was top-notch as always, and the wait time was reasonable. The service was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and fast, but not intrusive. WE'LL BE BACK

We were here from Augsburg/Ulm and can definitely recommend eating here. If you are a little hungry, there are the best fish rolls in Cuxhaven to the right.

I'm taking one star and giving it four because I find it unacceptable that, on a weekday and not during peak hours, I'm told the seafood risotto is sold out. Everything else was beautiful and delicious: I definitely recommend it.

A very nice restaurant near the harbor. The ambiance is very inviting and tells its story. The rooms are cozy and inviting. The food has changed a bit since last year, apparently because the chef changed. It still tastes very good, but it's a bit greasy, and unfortunately, they no longer serve the wonderful cucumber salad from last year.

We had a wonderful and relaxing evening here! We sat outside until late on a Saturday, enjoying great service from the attentive, uncomplicated, and friendly staff (thanks E.!). We'd be happy to go back.

We ate there twice. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We've been to many fish restaurants, but this was by far the best. The portions were just the right size; it wasn't too much, but not too small that you wouldn't leave feeling full. If we're ever in Cuxhaven again, we'd go there again.

Food was great. Drink prices were outrageous. We ordered small glasses of tap water for two small children. What we got was probably 0.3l table water. This cost us just under €9 😳

The service was friendly, attentive, and yet pleasantly unobtrusive – you immediately feel welcome. The location directly on the water makes the visit even more special. After dinner, you can take a lovely stroll and enjoy the maritime atmosphere. Our conclusion: If you love fish, you shouldn't miss Hus op'n Diek – we'd love to come back for the fish platter alone!

The food was okay, the fish was good, but the side dishes weren't that tasty. The salad, the dressing, and the fried potatoes were extremely greasy. The service staff were extremely nervous, even though there weren't many people there. The location is good, close to the sea. The prices are rather high.

The fish was fresh and very well prepared, and the potato salad complemented it perfectly. I would especially like to highlight the extremely friendly and welcoming staff. We received attentive service and immediately felt welcome – something I certainly didn't take for granted. Although we were sitting outside, I was able to glimpse inside while using the restroom: very tastefully decorated, a mix of rustic and modern, with great attention to detail. A real highlight were the restrooms, wittily designed with sea and seagull sounds. It was original and put a smile on my face. A place I can definitely recommend, and one I certainly won't be visiting for the last time.

Not the usual tourist rip-off! Absolutely delicious, thick, lightly browned fish fillets, fried to perfection and crispy on the outside! Served with your choice of homemade potato salad or mixed salad. Changing orders is no problem and at no extra cost. And above all: moderate prices! We were in Cuxhaven from late May to early June and visited several different fish restaurants. This one was by far the best. Pleasant atmosphere, very friendly, attentive service, a good selection, very fresh fish, generous portions, and reasonable prices. We became repeat customers.

Hello everyone, we were there for the third time and we were disappointed. Otherwise, everything was great and the food was very, very good, but unfortunately not today. We had the redfish with shrimp and bacon-wrapped beans and the plaice with potato salad (including freeze-dried parsley all over the salad). Unfortunately, the first plaice was still frozen inside. And the breading was thicker than the fish (frozen ready-made), and the potato salad was definitely also a ready-made product. The second plaice arrived quickly and looked just like the first. The bacon-wrapped beans, with an oriental spice, unfortunately didn't go well with the fish. The friendly waitress informed us that the chef had changed. She helped us get over it with a caramel liqueur. Nevertheless, it was a shame, as we drove two hours to eat there. Perhaps this review will be helpful, and we will of course try again. Best regards

My best dinner during my three-night stay in Cuxhaven last Ascension weekend! When I had a complete culinary disappointment at another restaurant the following evening, I immediately dreamed of returning to Hus op'n Diek. The food was so good and the price-performance ratio was fair. My portion of redfish (€17.90) was extremely generous and delicious. The homemade potato salad was also delicious and served with just the right amount of mayonnaise. To complement the fish, I treated myself to a delicious Aperol Spritz (€7.90). The service was busy, and many tables were reserved. However, one or two people were able to find a small table at short notice. However, reservations are highly recommended, in my opinion! Unfortunately, the service wasn't entirely attentive, and my request for a little more lemon was initially denied by a young lady who had previously shown difficulty delivering food plates to the correct tables. However, I finally got it sorted when I asked a colleague. In the basement, there are very clean and beautifully decorated restrooms with a nautical theme – even with the sound of the sea and the cries of seagulls playing over the speakers... a really sweet idea!

The staff is very attentive and friendly. The fried potatoes were too greasy for my liking, and I'm not used to beer-battered redfish – that could be improved. Next time, I'd rather have the beer batter and the fried potatoes not swimming in grease.

The restaurant's ambiance is very nice. You can sit inside or outside. The food was very, very tasty. We had the Hamburger Pannfisch and the Black Angus Burger. The portions were really large. The staff was friendly, but today they seemed a bit overwhelmed at times. Everyone seemed to be responsible for everything, which seemed a bit chaotic. Nevertheless, we felt comfortable and would eat there again anytime.

I had a chicken schnitzel. The meat was so dry I couldn't swallow it. I left it and reported my complaint to the waitress. The man just said he was sorry and would pass it on to the kitchen... no concession on price or anything else. I was there with my family, and everyone tried the chicken and confirmed my complaint. It's a real shame :-( We've always come here often and we enjoy it.

I can highly recommend this restaurant. We went there twice, and both the fish and the dessert were delicious. We went between meal times, so in the afternoon and once at lunch, so a reservation isn't necessary, but in the evening it is. The service was pleasant, as was the ambiance. You have to go downstairs to get to the restroom.

I highly recommend Küstenhugo 👍🏻 The food (crispy chicken burger & Labskaus) was also really great! I've never had such delicious, crispy fries. The prices were reasonable, too. It's definitely worth a visit!

This was our third time there, and it was truly delicious. We had a slightly more expensive fish platter for two, and afterward, we both agreed that it was absolutely the right decision. The young trainee not only wished a woman at the next table good health after she sneezed, but also offered her a new handkerchief. That was very thoughtful.
