The tastiest salmon of my life. A poem! A dream and for a very fair price! On my next visit to Cuxhaven, I'll go back to the Alt Döse restaurant!

+ small, reservation makes sense and is recommended ++ very tasty food (grilled salmon with rosemary potatoes) + still acceptable price/performance ratio

We found the restaurant by chance. Rarely eaten such good fish.

Very small but nice restaurant. If I counted correctly, 8 tables! Reservation is definitely necessary! The reception was friendly, service attentive and helpful. Small recommendations about the menu were also great. Drinks came quickly and the food was prepared quickly too! Fish was well fried and seasoned and the fried potatoes and potato wedges were also crispy and tasty! Hard on the upper limit of spice but still delicious! The portions were large enough or even a little larger. Price/performance absolutely fine!

Be sure to reserve a place in advance! The food is fresh and prepared quickly. Service quick and friendly. This Sanitary facilities are modern again in terms of design, but I like something like this when old things can sometimes be old. They are clean and serve their purpose. You can park on the streets. The only drawback - if you can call it that: no EC payment possible but you can live with that if you know it.

We read the great reviews and wanted to eat something on Friday evening around 7:40 p.m., unfortunately the kitchen was almost closed and we reserved a table by the window for Saturday evening. We arrived at the agreed time (it wasn't possible later than 5:30 p.m.) and unfortunately we didn't get a table by the window, but that wasn't a bad thing. We wanted to order the redfish with roasted potatoes (instead of parsley potatoes) twice and the redfish with fried potatoes instead of parsley potatoes once. The fried potatoes were limited, so ordering them wasn't an option, so we ordered the redfish with potato salad. Plus two glasses of Pinot Gris and a large cola. Unfortunately the cola was not carbonated and at €6.30 the wine was simply not worth the price in terms of taste. The fish was delicious, but the roasted potatoes were totally over-seasoned and had a lot of sugar in them. When we asked, we were told that it was just a spice mixture, next time you had to say that you didn't want it and that it was just sprinkled on top (see photo). Unfortunately, there was also a spice mixture sprinkled over the fish, which we didn't think was needed. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio (€85 for three people, just drinks and main course) was not justified at all for us and I am surprised by the many positive reviews.

Very great little restaurant. The food here is excellent as is the very friendly service. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Cuxhaven. Thank you for everything. 🫶🏻

We ate very well here. Unfortunately, you felt very rushed because the restaurant is very small and the next guests were already waiting for the table.

Especially on Fridays the buffet, simply great (and relatively inexpensive) Will come back, promise!!

We were guests there in the summer and weren't that impressed. First we stood in front of a locked door...and had to telephone the landlady; well, that can happen. My wife had a fish plate with salad and was very happy, our friends had grilled salmon which was too dry and not enough for the price (basically a "bloated fish sandwich"); I had a pork steak - small but neat - with a few potatoes and a dry branch of "SomethingFromPlant". I've never seen anything like it; But I get my fill better and cheaper with a herb steak from the swivel grill at the Bremen Freimarkt. Overall, we had the impression of tourist feeding in a jazzed up and overpriced snack bar. With three stars, the fish restaurant Alt Döse is still well served, but we weren't!

The food and especially the fried potatoes are really great, but we find it more than worrying that guests these days have to encourage possible tax fraud by only paying in cash 🥴. The receipt that I received after paying looked really reasonable, but the tax number was missing, which certainly confirms my opinion 🥴

We had a wonderful dinner in the Alt-Döse restaurant. The fried potatoes that don't swim in fat are very tasty. If we are in the area again, we will happily come here again. Thanks for the delicious food.

Nice little restaurant with friendly service but if you pay 75 for 2 starters, 2 main courses and 2 beers, you should be full afterwards. We found the fish on the plates to be sufficient, but there were some savings on the side dishes. We were sitting alone in the restaurant and one drink was brought to the table incorrectly.

We were very satisfied. The restaurant is small and cozy. The card is designed to match. Our recommendation: book your table in advance, as it is very busy and seats are limited. We got the starter salads (1x normal, 1x with fresh crabs) without a long wait. Afterwards we were served the main courses. 1x the recommendation of fresh salmon on cedar wood and 1x the redfish fried with mustard-dill sauce. Both dishes were very tasty, the fish was so juicy that it could only be divided into bite-sized pieces with a fork. For dessert we had warm chocolate lava cake with cherry jelly and cream. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Conclusion: We would love to come back. But then with a table reservation 😉

Super tolles Fischrestaurant. Ganz toller Service. Die Bedienung ist ein Norddeutsche Original und wirklich angenehm nett und auch sehr aufmerksam. Hat uns sogar Empfehlungen für Ausflüge gegeben. Die Gerichte sind richtig lecker und auch sehr üppig. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist wirklich sehr gut. Wir waren zweimal während unseres Aufenthaltes dort und ich könnte dort auch jeden Tag essen. Wer in Cuxhaven ist und guten Fisch lecker zubereitet zu schätzen weiß, der muss dort einmal gegessen haben. Unbedingt reservieren.

Wir waren heute Abend spontan in diesem Restaurant und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Wir hatten das Schollenfilet Büsumer Art und gebratene Nordseescholle Finkenwerder Art. Das Essen war super lecker und kann von uns wärmstens empfohlen werden. Wir kommen wieder!

It tasted great. It's just very small

Waren zu zweit am 16 09.. dort, hatten Fisch, war sehr gut (leider nicht mehr präsent, was es exakt war. Zu beachten ist, ohne Reservierung geht (fast) nichts und nur Bares ist Wahres, wenn man beides vorher weiß, ok. Generell sehr zu empfehlen, wenn wir im März 2025 wieder da sind, wird vorab ein Tisch reserviert

A small but well-kept restaurant with only six tables for four, so make sure to reserve. The focus of the offering is clearly on fish, with only a few meat dishes as supplements. Generous portions, deliciously prepared, but also at a high price level. Attentive, friendly, almost family-like service. Recommended.

We went to this restaurant on our short vacation in Cuxhaven. The food in this case was fried plaice. It was just good. Super nice service Again and again.

Tight with loud disco music. The food is average and really not special... potatoes not cooked, sauce clear, fish almost dry. When it comes to fried fish (according to the menu), I don't really want any seasoned breading... then I would have ordered breaded. The fish sandwich stall at the beach crossing “Strandhaus Döse” is highly recommended!!! Everything is right here!

Decent fish meals at moderate prices. Attention, we finish early, table reservations are highly recommended. Free parking nearby is possible.

Small restaurant with very good cuisine. Due to the small space, a little ambience is unfortunately lost, but this is made up for. We had plaice (huge) and salmon, both portions were very good value for money. The cooking point, size and taste make it easy to recommend this restaurant with a clear conscience. As a side dish I can recommend the fried potatoes, very crispy 👌. It's also nice that the cooking points are explained on the map and smaller tips are listed. The restaurant only offers cash payment and is (now?) also written on DIN A4 next to the door. Since it happens more and more often these days, people have gotten used to it. Two starters, two main courses, bottle of wine and water €90, certainly not too expensive for this quality.

Baked fish was my meal, with another side dish from the menu. I chose the vegetables with hollandaise sauce. Food was quite good, portions not too big, value for money perhaps not too good, a bit too expensive. The children's dish with the three pollock tips and the fries was large and tasty (around €10, certainly enough for older children or some adults). Unfortunately, the waitress wasn't good at all: cheeky and arrogant. Taking the 3.5 year old's order, even though as a mother I said something different (does a toddler need 0.4l apple spritzer; which, by the way, was almost non-carbonated; unfortunately pouring more sparkling water didn't result in more carbonation). After the son turned on the table lamp and tried it out, it was immediately taken away because “it could break.” She also served fake drinks at the next table and asked very firmly three times if the customers “still wanted them now” because otherwise she would have to throw them away. Unfortunately true, but not particularly customer-oriented. These guests then somewhat reluctantly kept the wrong drinks...

Small, fine, delicious... a must when we are at the North Sea. The homemade salad sauce was also very tasty. You can almost only get a seat with a reservation. From the outside it makes an inconspicuous impression... (snack bar). But really recommended... price in the middle range.

Unfortunately we can only rate the meat dishes. We had surf and turf and a pork steak. Both dishes were a disaster. The meat was totally over-seasoned (marinade?) so that no meat flavor could be tasted at all. The prawns at surf and turf were four small shrimps. The pork steak was a streaky pork neck, also drowned in a not tasty marinade. A pity. According to some locals, the fish dishes are said to be good. Unfortunately it wasn't a good meal for the money. The service was very neutral. Neither nice nor unfriendly.

Really recommended if you want to eat well in Cuxhaven! Since the restaurant is not very big, you should make a reservation! The opening times should also be taken into account! The Reservation at lunchtime for the evening didn't work out properly We (2 people) had to change tables twice and eat at the same table with other guests No drama, but no concept. The quality and taste of the food was only mediocre

I can only agree with the previous speakers. You immediately feel “welcome”, great service, nice advice (if you are “indecisive” :-)) super delicious food, prices are totally ok. We would love to come back.

Addendum: Because of my original 2-star review, the owner hired a lawyer who asked me to delete the review, claiming false facts, e.g. I had never been here. That's NOT possible at all. The review was: - - - - - There's a lot to complain about about this place, but to keep it short I'll just mention the one thing that was the last straw for me: no card payments. It may sound banal, but this is an unnecessary problem for customers. Yes, it is mentioned in small detail on the front door, but no one looks at it, because in a higher-priced restaurant like this one assumes that you can of course pay by card. No, nobody looks at the website either. You had to pay cash in smaller shops during the day, so your wallet is empty in the evening. As I said: in a more expensive restaurant you will assume that you pay by card. While you eat, you think about scenarios of how you could get cash. Quickly to Lidl? Is there a bank near here? Stress. Annoying. You no longer enjoy the food. Search for ATM on Google Maps. The companion was left alone in the empty bar and walked the 600 meters to the bank, where he unnecessarily paid €4.50 in fees. This doesn't make your mood any better. I'm good at walking, it took me a quarter of an hour, I know people who would have taken much longer to get there and would have cursed. I did the latter too. At least it didn't rain. Our hotel was at the end of the street, so we just wanted to get out for a moment and not wander around too much. Order dessert? Something else to drink? No more desire. In the end, the amount withdrawn is no longer enough. You're fed up. The entire holiday week was perfect except for this one evening. What is it worth? That's why it was so annoying. Thanks. I hope something like this happens to the owner of the shop on vacation so that he or she can see what it's like.

It is not possible to reserve a table for 4 people including a wheelchair user. There is no space for wheelchair users in the restaurant. Finding a way is not an option. WITHOUT WORDS.

Were on a short vacation in Cuxhaven. This was the best meal on site. Delicious. We had salmon with potato wedges.

It's a small, quaint restaurant...very friendly service...the food was really delicious!!! We made reservations again straight away...when we're back in Döse we'll be happy to come back!!! Perfectly prepared fish dishes. Super nice and courteous service. Even though there were only two of us making a reservation, our four friends were still able to get a place. Price/performance ratio is good, food tasted good, portion size was perfect, you just have to make sure you have cash with you as card payment is not possible...not really up to date anymore. But we'd love to come back again.

Booking works quite well via email. In the confirmation you will then receive a long list of rules of conduct. Apparently the gentlemen have had bad experiences with unreliable guests. You can feel that. To eat: the starter salad was generously topped with iceberg lettuce. Unfortunately, the fish in the large salad with fish fillets was on the dry side. The pork steak was okay, but had a strange aftertaste. At the end we were forced to tip when paying because there was no change in the exchange to give out. I expected better after the good reviews.

The reservation worked well online. The food came quickly. Unfortunately, it's not particularly good: the starter salad (over €6) was filled with iceberg (an old gastronome's trick, but inappropriate during the salad season!), the pork steak was of poor meat quality and the fish fillet in the salad was very dry. Only the roasted potatoes made up. Conclusion: Not an insider tip. And why the menu is digital but payment is only in cash remains a secret... or perhaps another restaurateur's trick?

OK, but poor value for money. The two pieces of herring were ok, as was the side salad recommended (!) by the waitress. But: the side salad was the usual size and cost 6.40eu. For comparison: at Blauth there are three types of matjes for one euro less and at the blauthplatte for 19.90eu (two fried fish + crabs, plus fried potatoes) the salad was included in the size of the side salad at alt Döse...

The food was perfect and delicious. You can argue about the price but we found it absolutely appropriate given the quality of the food. Payment is made in haptic money, i.e. cash. Great ambience and very friendly service.

Klein, urig und sehr empfehlenswert. Sehr leckeres Essen, gemütliche Atmosphäre, Scholle und Lachs kamen frisch zubereitet auf den Tisch, der Service ebenfalls super, man sieht wo Bedarf ist, da könnte sich manch anderer Gastwirt eine Scheibe von... . Aufgrund der Größe des Restaurants ist eine Vorbestellung unbedingt erforderlich.

Small, cozy fish restaurant. We were lucky to get a table for four people without a reservation on a Saturday evening - it's busy and after the excellent food you can see why. Very nice service and despite the fact that almost all tables were occupied, the food was served quickly - and this was perfect. The fish is crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, the salad is fresh and with not too much dressing. The salmon burger with "self-carved" fries was also very good, as was the children's fish plate. You can (currently) only pay in cash, so you just have to be prepared for that. Overall a bit more expensive, but that's the way it is with good fish (and lots of crabs). In any case, the price/performance and scope are right here.

Das Essen ist gut! Aber: Das kommen ging nur zu einer bestimmten sehr frühen Zeit. Als wir eintrafen, verstanden wir auch weshalb. Es handelt sich eher um eine aufgewertete Kneipe, in der alles sehr eng steht. Auf allen Tischen stand bereits „reserviert“Schilder. Als die Gäste nach und nach eintrafen und meinten, dass sie nicht reserviert haben, wurde das Schild vom Tisch entfernt. Bei der Bestellung wurde mehrfach nachgefragt, ob man nicht einen Beilagensalat wünscht. Das sollte wohl die Rechnung aufwerten?! Beim Nachbartisch klappte es auch und es wurde lediglich erwähnt, dass es dann etwas mehr kosten würde. (Fast 12€). Die Einrichtung sehr einfach, kahl und unliebsam. Ein gemütliches Essen im Restaurant stelle ich mir anders vor. Insofern kann ich nur feststellen, dass das Essen zwar wirklich gut ist, aber wohlfühlen und Gemütlichkeit geht wirklich anders. Wir sind auch sehr schnell wieder gegangen. Sehr schade! Platz 3 bei TripAdvisor, definitiv nicht verdient!

A real pearl among the many fish restaurants in Cuxhaven. Starting with the telephone reservation, friendly and uncomplicated. The atmosphere is small and cozy. The service was quick, competent and super nice. The lobster soup is particularly worth mentioning. Salmon and plaice fillets were perfectly fried, matjes with cranberries and jacket potatoes - a poem. The potato salad is great because it's homemade and you can see and taste it. There's Haake Beck Pils on tap, really good! The schnapps selection is also impressive (fish has to swim). Unfortunately, only cash payment is possible, but you can be prepared for that.

Jedesmal in Cuxhaven sind wir dort. Eines der besten Lokale in der ganzen Gegend. Reservierung vonnöten. Besonders möchten wir den Lachs auf Zedernholz.

The restaurant is old-fashioned and therefore has charm again, the opening times are short. The food, redfish fillet with Dijon mustard sauce and salad with fish fillets, was extremely tasty. The portions were generous. Very good price-performance ratio. Clear recommendation.

We got a place for two people at around 5:30 p.m. without a reservation. Very nice service! The food (crab soup, panfish and redfish) tasted very good. Unfortunately, the redfish only came with 5 very small parsley potatoes as a side dish - given the prices these days, it wouldn't hurt to add one or two more potatoes. How much do fries or potatoes cost as a side dish!

Im Alt Döse zahlt man bar und erhält klasse Essen bei fairen Preisen. Ob Fleisch oder Fisch es lohnt sich Beides mal probiert zu haben. Alles wird frisch zubereitet und dazu ein traditionelles Haake Bier. Das Steak wird auf den Punkt medium rare serviert, oder wie auch immer der Kunde es bestellt. Zwischendurch gibt es einen netten Smalltalk mit der Hausherrin und zum Abschluss lohnt immer ein Neuwerker Aquavit. Am Besten reserviert man im Alt Döse, da die Tischanzahl begrenzt ist. Wir kommen gerne wieder und genießen das Essen und den Service vor Ort.

The plaice Finkenwerder and the crab soup were excellent! The service is very friendly and attentive. When making a reservation, you should make sure to book a table by the window front, as that is where the best seats are.
