We are very, very satisfied with this fish restaurant. We try out different fish restaurants every time we're in Cuxhaven and will definitely come back. The atmosphere is very warm, everything is beautifully clean. The service is very friendly. And the food is a 10/10! There are also three delicious menus for our younger guests to choose from. It's important to reserve a table in advance, as the restaurant is cozy and small. If you want to eat delicious fish and be served nicely, then this is the place for you.

Wir haben uns spontan für dieses Lokal entschieden und hatten Glück, dass gerade einer der wenigen Tische frei wurde. Der Fisch war ausgezeichnet, perfekte Bratkartoffeln, grosszügige Portionen, guter Service.

Wir haben dort sehr gut gegessen (Matjes mit Speckbohnen und Rotbarschfilet). Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Das Lokal ist sehr klein, aber fein. Besonders hat uns gefallen, dass dort keine Hunde im Restaurant erlaubt sind. Meine Frau hat eine Tierhaarallergie und wir haben schon des Öfteren erlebt, dass Hunde mit in Restaurants gebracht werden. Auf allen Speisenkarten in Restaurants wird auf Allergieunverträglichkeiten hingewiesen, Hunde sind aber erlaubt, obwohl für einen Tierhaarallergiker es lebensbedrohlich sein kann, wenn ein Tier in der Nähe ist.

We stopped by here on our last night of vacation and reserved a table in advance. We ordered redfish with mustard sauce and Büsum-style plaice. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The fried potatoes were very crispy. The fish was juicy, and the sauce was excellent. Everything was perfectly seasoned. What we didn't like was the side salad, which cost over €6. It wasn't particularly well presented. We would have liked a bit more variety.

A relatively small, comfortably furnished restaurant with friendly staff who also offer food recommendations. If you want to eat truly delicious herring, this is the place to be. The other dishes also looked very good, and judging by the empty plates, they were delicious. Reservations are recommended, as it gets very busy even during the week.

I found the seating area far too cramped and small. My Coke lacked carbonation. Apparently, the ice cubes were to blame. And for the price, I found the amount of food very disappointing. There was no salad with the fish; you had to order it separately. It was still tasty, though.

You can eat and enjoy truly high-quality fish here. It's an older restaurant with not many tables, so I definitely recommend making a reservation. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were very satisfied and will definitely visit again.

Kleines aber feines Fischrestaurant. Da die Tischanzahl sehr begrenzt ist muss man unbedingt reservieren. Das Essen war sehr gut und die Preise sind ok. Die Bedienung hat noch Luft nach oben.

Based on the reviews, our expectations were high. The disappointment was even greater. The waitress more or less forced the side salad on us, which could have been from a canteen. The potato salad was really nothing special and the redfish was cooked far too dry. The salmon was also fried to death. People save on the sauce in the hope that they will reorder for a fee. The restaurant “Alt Döse” can only be recommended. The food is just great. However, it should be noted that card payment is not possible and the dining room cannot accommodate more than 8 tables. A table should therefore be reserved before visiting.

We were at the Alt-Döse fish restaurant in February. It is a small restaurant with just 7 tables in the dining room. The dining room is decorated in a maritime style and is a bit old, with the huge counter in the middle dominating. The service, an older lady, Nordic cool. We had 1x salmon fillet burger - salmon fillet from the Beefer, baked with cheddar cheese in a rustic burger bun, honey-mustard-dill cream, salad, cucumber slices and French fries for €21.50, 1x Cuxhavener Pannfisch - pollack fillet with a mustard-dill sauce and hearty fried potatoes for 20.80 € and 1x Cuxhavener Labskaus with 3 fried eggs, herring fillet, gherkin and beetroot for 19.20 € and as a starter 1x potato cream soup with salmon tartare and cream topping for 8.10 €. The soup had a very thin consistency. And in the end it tasted just as bland as it looked and floated on the spoon. Large pieces of salmon were added to the soup. The salmon fillet burger was pretty decent. There was a huge burger there. Two large halves of burger buns, which were lightly toasted on the inside, had a lot of stuff in between. A really thick piece of salmon fillet, which was very tasty and mildly smoked, stuck out on both sides of the burger. The salmon was spread with a mild honey-mustard-dill cream and baked on top with a large slice of hearty cheddar. There was also fresh, crunchy lettuce and fresh cucumber. A basket of crispy French fries was served as a side dish. It was plentiful, very plentiful. The owner had decided on the Cuxhaven panfish. Here in Cuxhaven or in this restaurant it was unfortunately “only” made from the cheaper pollock fillet, instead of cod as we are used to in Fehmarn. But the 3 thick fillets were fried golden yellow and sprinkled on the outside with a fine herb mixture and pepper. The fish was pleasantly soft, but the herbs or The pepper mixture was definitely too much for my wife. The fried potatoes were well fried, had a pleasant degree of roasting and contained enough bacon cubes and onion strips. Pepper was completely missing here. The mustard-dill sauce was a thick, creamy sauce that lived up to its name, as both the mustard and dill were very noticeable. Whenever I'm on the coast, there has to be their specialty at least once, and so I ordered the "Cuxhavener Labskaus with 3 fried eggs, herring fillet, gherkin and beetroot". While in this dish at least the latter 3 are clearly convenience goods, with the former it clearly depends on the skill of the cook. And first of all, I've eaten much better labskaus. Here the mashed potatoes were still nice and coarse and well seasoned. However, there wasn't much to taste or see of the salted beef. Hence the very delicate and light pink color of the mashed potatoes. If there is more cured meat, the color will of course be darker. A lot of savings were made here. To save my honor, I can unfortunately only say that at least the fried egg was good (what an art) because the yolk was wonderfully runny and melted when I cut it over the mashed potatoes. The matjes (nice that it is served here and not just rollmops as is often the case) was also good and buttery soft. Ultimately, I was extremely disappointed with this labskaus. I expected better from a northern German fish restaurant.

Wäre es nicht unser letzter Abend in Cuxhaven gewesen, hätten wir für den Folgetag glatt wieder reserviert. Beim nächsten Besuch in Cuxhaven auf jedenfall Pflichtprogramm.

Food okay, but service not customer-oriented. Unfortunately, quantity counts over quality here. Tables are not allowed to be pushed together - for reasons that are unclear - so that groups have to sit uncomfortably apart. Each small bowl of sauce is charged extra... Everything is very inflexible unfortunately! Too bad!

Leider hatte das Restaurant wohl einen schlechten Tag. Wir bekamen Wein in Gläsern serviert, welche man bei einem Festzelt vermuten würde nicht aber in einem Fischrestaurant, ebenso die Wassergläser. Der Salat war für den aufgerufenen Preis schon eine Enttäuschung, einfach etwas Salat mit 3 Croutons und irgendein Dressing. Das Schollenfilet war trocken gebraten und thronte auf einem Berg Bratkartoffeln. Alles in allem ein enttäuschender Abend.

It had been very relaxed. You only had to wait a short time for your food. The menu offers a large selection of several types of fish and various matching dishes. The restaurant is something for young and old. It was also very easy to talk to the staff. Since there is not much going on at lunchtime, it is recommended to eat out at this time. You should definitely make a reservation in the evening as there is a lot going on then.

Passend für ein Fischrestaurant eingerichtet, und daher sehr gemütlich. Das Gericht, Finkenwerder Scholle, war vorzüglich. Die ganze Scholle von schöner Größe mit lecker zubereiteten Bratkartoffeln war zu meiner vollen Zufriedenheit. Wir haben direkt für den nächsten Abend einen Tisch reserviert. Das kann ich auch nur jedem empfehlen, Da im Innenraum nur wenige Tische zur Verfügung stehen.

We went to this great fish restaurant during our vacation and loved it! The food was superbly prepared. We were particularly impressed by the crab soup and the salmon fillet. Fisch (Scholleund Schollenfilet) mit Bratkartoffeln Menge ausreichend, Geschmack mangelhaft. Bratkartoffeln und Fisch schmeckten nach Maggi. Hsaben schon deutlich besser gegessen. Dieses Restaurant ist nicht zu empfehlen.

Wir waren zu viert vor Ort und es war wieder einmal super! Wir hatten den Lachs gebraten auf Zedernholz mit gerösteten Kartoffeln und zweierlei Dipp, einen Lachsburger mit Pommes und einen Salat mit gebratenem Fischfilet. Das Essen ist frisch zubereitet, der Lachs auf den Punkt gebraten und die Bedienung freundlich und schnell. Sogar die gerösteten Kartoffeln fanden wir so lecker, dass wir uns davon noch eine Portion nachbestellt haben. Das Restaurant hat ein super Ambiente im nautischen Stil. Es ist zu empfehlen vorher einen Tisch zu reservieren, da das Lokal immer gut besucht ist (spricht für die Qualität des Essens!). Wenn man in Cuxhaven ist, sollte man sich dieses Restaurant nicht entgehen lassen!

Gestern zu zweit dort gewesen, Vorspeisensalat, Pannfisch und Scholle mit Bratkartoffeln dazu gegessen. Alles super lecker und toller Service. Die Deko ist ebenfalls ein Extralob wert.

Wir sind aufgrund der guten Bewertungen von Bremerhaven nach Cuxhaven gefahren um in der Alt Döse Fisch zu essen. Die Erwartung war hoch und wir wurden nicht enttäuscht. Die Gerichte wurden frisch für uns zubereitet - die Wartezeit war dennoch kurz. Beide Essen waren von der Menge her ausreichend - sprich es war ein gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Frischer Fisch kostet halt mal. Die Qualität und der Geschmack waren hervorragend. Ich weiß nicht, wann ich das letzte Mal so leckere Bratkartoffeln zum Fisch hatte. Wir kommen auf alle Fälle wieder, wenn wir in der Nähe sind.

Very small but nice restaurant. If I counted correctly, 8 tables! Reservation is definitely necessary! The reception was friendly, service attentive and helpful. Small recommendations about the menu were also great. Drinks came quickly and the food was prepared quickly too! Fish was well fried and seasoned and the fried potatoes and potato wedges were also crispy and tasty! Hard on the upper limit of spice but still delicious! The portions were large enough or even a little larger. Price/performance absolutely fine!

Be sure to reserve a place in advance! The food is fresh and prepared quickly. Service quick and friendly. This Sanitary facilities are modern again in terms of design, but I like something like this when old things can sometimes be old. They are clean and serve their purpose. You can park on the streets. The only drawback - if you can call it that: no EC payment possible but you can live with that if you know it.

We read the great reviews and wanted to eat something on Friday evening around 7:40 p.m., unfortunately the kitchen was almost closed and we reserved a table by the window for Saturday evening. We arrived at the agreed time (it wasn't possible later than 5:30 p.m.) and unfortunately we didn't get a table by the window, but that wasn't a bad thing. We wanted to order the redfish with roasted potatoes (instead of parsley potatoes) twice and the redfish with fried potatoes instead of parsley potatoes once. The fried potatoes were limited, so ordering them wasn't an option, so we ordered the redfish with potato salad. Plus two glasses of Pinot Gris and a large cola. Unfortunately the cola was not carbonated and at €6.30 the wine was simply not worth the price in terms of taste. The fish was delicious, but the roasted potatoes were totally over-seasoned and had a lot of sugar in them. When we asked, we were told that it was just a spice mixture, next time you had to say that you didn't want it and that it was just sprinkled on top (see photo). Unfortunately, there was also a spice mixture sprinkled over the fish, which we didn't think was needed. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio (€85 for three people, just drinks and main course) was not justified at all for us and I am surprised by the many positive reviews.

As always, the food was very good 👍. Without exaggerating, it is one of the best fish restaurants in Cuxhaven.
