Terrible service. As new arrivals, we were greeted very expansively by a "manager" (a dark-haired, approximately 1.65m tall woman on August 5, 2025, at approximately 3:30 PM). A single, brief, and quiet, unfortunately easily missed "hello" was ignored by my partner and, shockingly, resulted in a very expansive and unprofessional response from the service provider, making us, as guests and paying customers, feel very uncomfortable. If this behavior becomes more frequent, I wouldn't be surprised if we see fewer, or eventually no, solvent customers coming soon.

The kitchen closes at 7:30 p.m., so you can still order. The service is sensationally fast and friendly. Freshly caught fish 🐟 And generous portions that are almost impossible to finish. Even a fresh salad on your plate is more than enough. Highly recommended in every respect; you won't be disappointed.

Anyone wanting to eat fish at the harbor doesn't have quite as much choice as they did a while ago. To be honest, we used to always go to the competitor, Rolf and Inge, but this year we discovered they're no longer open, so we stopped by Bohlsen's. The atmosphere is okay, a typical fish restaurant by the harbor, and you can also sit outside. However, the outside area is covered with a tarpaulin (the risk of bad weather is certainly present in the north ;-). This brings me to a point that really bothered me: guests are actually allowed to smoke in the covered outdoor area, which means that instead of enjoying the healthy North Sea air, you might be hit by the blue haze of inconsiderate contemporaries, which impairs or even ruins your appetite and is simply disgusting and, especially if you're there with small children, annoying. The food was good, the value for money was okay, and the service was very friendly, but the smoke-free policy should be consistently enforced. One person's freedom ends where another's is infringed.

Everything is coated in a rather unappealing, thick coating. The portions are getting smaller and smaller, the prices ever higher. All in all, there are better options in Cuxhaven.

A lovely fish restaurant and fish shop, easily accessible from the train station. We both ordered a fish platter and were served quickly and well. The price was a bit high, but reasonable. The fish tasted good. We sat inside; we didn't like the outside seating. We'd be happy to come back!

We asked for a table and were told to choose, but because of our children, we took the corner table. There were still three glasses there. After waiting for about 10 minutes, I signaled to a member of staff. A few minutes later, someone came and fetched the glasses. We announced our desire to eat. He was surprised and wanted to inform his colleague. Then guests arrived at the neighboring table. About five minutes later, the colleague arrived and went to the other table. I told her that we would be waiting well over 15 minutes. She then scolded me very rudely. We hadn't asked her for a table, and if there were glasses on the table (they had already been collected about 10 minutes earlier), she wouldn't come. She then ignored us again. We left immediately. We certainly didn't need to be yelled at (in front of an audience). The fish from the small fish menu was delicious, and the service impeccable.

Very very tasty, friendly staff

The food was fine. I was just surprised that I had to pay €3.90 for a glass of table water. The menu said: 0.33l table water. Of course, I expected a 0.33l bottle, but it was a 0.3l glass of water. The waitress couldn't understand my complaint. She said I shouldn't get so upset about it so the other guests wouldn't notice. I just wanted to point out to her that in reputable restaurants here in Cuxhaven, I can get a 0.33l bottle of branded mineral water for less than €3.90. She then canceled the water order. Unfortunately, our last day here in Cuxhaven wasn't so pleasant.

We've been going to Cux for a long time and always eat there. The service was very friendly, the food was good and you got full. The fish meatballs weren't as good as they used to be. We always liked to take several with us to take home, too. From now on we'll buy one and try it out. They used to be much better.

Fresh fish and good smoked goods

Very good fish restaurant, the fish was fresh, and the fried potatoes were also very good. (Not everyone can do that.) The price/performance ratio is absolutely fine. This is a must on a vacation in Cuxhaven! Sunday lunchtime, no reservation required.

Today was our second time eating here on our vacation. We were familiar with the restaurant from previous vacations. The food is brought to the table very quickly, is hot, fresh, delicious, and more than enough – if you're used to normal portions. The entire team is very friendly and works very quickly. This is the best fish restaurant in town. You can also buy fresh fish there. We got a table right away at lunchtime during the week. Our drinks arrived in five minutes, and the food only took ten minutes. The fried herring is a dream.

Bei schlechtem Wetter wollten wir das Wrack & Fischereimuseum besuchen und mittags etwas essen. Auf der suche nach dem richtigen Weg spülte uns ein heftiger Regenschauer buchstäblich in das Fischrestaurant. Wir konnten noch an einem großen Tisch Platz nehmen. Das Lokal war gut besucht. Wir entschieden uns für Rotbarschfilet. Es gab eine Seniorenportion und eine normale Portion. Meine Frau nahm die kleine Portion, die aber völlig ausreichte. Ich bekam die dreifache Menge serviert. Hier haben wir vorzüglichen Fisch gegessen, da sehr frisch. Trotz Personalmangel war die Bedienung gut und sehr freundlich. Kann man nur weiter empfehlen.

Super friendly staff with good recommendations for food and drinks. We had a lovely spot outside under the patio roof. The cod and plaice were very good, and the Bohlsen dark beer is also highly recommended. We'd love to come back.

An absolute must for all fish lovers. Perfectly fried fish, deliciously seasoned, served with fried potatoes and a small side salad. Anyone who loves fresh fish and is in Cuxhaven should definitely visit Bohlsen.

The fish sandwiches are a disgrace. Just a dry sandwich and the fish/fish cake. No onions, no lettuce, no remoulade. Thank goodness there are enough alternatives where customers aren't ripped off so much.

Whit Monday afternoon. Relatively unreflective. In this weather, you'd want to sit outside. It's also easily possible. We didn't have to wait. Although the ambiance outside isn't very appealing. The service was relatively quick, and the menu has the advantage of offering two senior citizen dishes. Otherwise, the prices have increased significantly overall!! The food arrived quite quickly. The plaice fillet, the fried potatoes, and the side salad weren't exactly ordinary, though there was nothing earth-shattering about the taste. If you're looking for something special, this isn't the right place. But if you're hungry for a quick fish dish, you can go here. If you're not put off by the prices.

Unfortunately, we were not at all satisfied with our dish. The very small piece of fish had a lot of bones, which shouldn't be a problem with fillets. The side dishes were also meager. The response to our comment wasn't really appropriate either.

We waited for service. The food took a while. The beer batter around the fish was only good on the outside; the inside was soggy and doughy. The fries were too salty. The wheat beer was flat.

If you enjoy good fish, this is the place for you. The service is very friendly and the food is delicious.

This was our first time here, as we were given a tip about the many free parking spaces in the harbor area. Getting a seat wasn't difficult, as there are plenty of tables inside and outside (covered). The menu is limited but absolutely sufficient. The staff was very friendly, and we didn't have to wait long.

We were unlucky with our herring sandwich. All three weren't fresh, and the sandwiches were soft and unpleasantly "sloppy." There were six of us there, and we weren't satisfied. When I wanted to use the restroom an hour after eating the fish sandwich, I was forcefully asked to pay €1.

On this street, you can choose from a variety of fish restaurants. I had a senior's plate of redfish and a clear fish soup at Bohlen's. Both were excellent! The service is very attentive, and the prices are reasonable. You sit (at least in summer) on the covered terrace. Unfortunately, the traffic is a bit noisy, slightly shaded by hedges.

We were there three times within a week and the waitress recognized us the second time! She was extremely friendly and accommodating. The various dishes were freshly prepared and plentiful. A small comment about "a little" little fried potatoes, and an extra portion arrived. Top service, good quality and simply delicious! We will definitely come back!

We had lunch today in the harbor district of Cuxhaven and at Bohlsen's, I ate a mixed fish plate, I was very happy with the taste, nothing was dry, everything was very tender, the portion size was also fine, the staff was very friendly, the only thing that could be improved was that the waiter explained exactly what types of fish they were, otherwise everything was fine

Spontan hatten wir hier mit fünf Erwachsenen einen Tisch haben wollen. Wir durften uns an einen freien Vierertisch setzen, den Stuhl mussten wir uns selber organisieren. Die drei zusätzlichen Karten wurden erst später auf den Tisch gelegt. Die männlichen Kellner haben teilweise lange Bärte welche laut Hygienegesetz verdeckt sein müßten. Das zusätzliche Dressing für das Schollenfilet stand auf einem anderen Gericht, und wurde berechnet obwohl die Preise schon heftig sind. Die Scholle mit Gräte bestand auch hautpsächlich aus dieser. Und ich habe massiv Magenprobleme seit dem Essen...

One star is still too many! I had some fried fish brought with me, hoping it would be freshly fried (it was lunchtime). When I unpacked the fish, I had a bad feeling: a roll from yesterday was grinning at me, the surface gave it away, it was ice cold, dry and tough, and completely tasteless. An ice-cold fried fish, about 3mm thick, wanted to be eaten. Also tasteless. If my wife hadn't been there, the seagulls would have gotten this stuff. I bought half of it and took the rest home with me. Here the roll started to smell unpleasant, you could smell it through the open window outside. Tourists from Hömmaland would certainly be thrilled, I've thrown the things into the bin. Absolutely no recommendation.

Having become curious through various posts about this restaurant on Facebook, we wanted to form our own opinion. The furnishings are simple, you sit on simple but very comfortable chairs. The fish soup was a real treat. It contains no shellfish and is therefore also suitable for allergy sufferers, and we definitely recommend it! My wife had the fried cod fillet with potato salad and remoulade, I chose the “Finkenwerder style” plaice with fried potatoes. Both dishes were very well prepared, the fish was very well fried and both the fried potatoes and the potato salad were excellent. The proportion of bacon in the plaice was very good (I love bacon with fish) and the tartar sauce was also very tasty. It is perhaps also worth mentioning that the plaice contained a complete roe, which personally made me very happy because roe is a special delicacy for me. The whole thing was served to us by an attentive and very friendly waitress. We felt very comfortable there and will definitely come back there on our next holiday in the area.

There are plenty of free parking spaces in the quiet harbor area. There are enough tables inside and outside (no side walls but covered). The menu is absolutely sufficient and offers the right choice for every taste of fish. The quality of the food is very good and tasty. We would love to come back.

We like to come for dinner. We can recommend all dishes, the fish is always freshly prepared. We prefer to order fillets from Limandes, or mixed fish plates according to the house style, preferably with fried potatoes. The service is prompt and very friendly. We look forward to the next visit.

This review relates to fish sales: The opening times are apparently an indication! On December 23rd the shop was closed at 3:45 p.m. According to opening hours it should be open until 4:00 p.m. On December 24th There was already a busy crowd in front of the shop at 8:00 a.m. Unfortunately it didn't open. However, the employees weren't interested in that at all. According to the notice, opening time should start at 8:00 a.m. However, the Bohlsen fish shop defines Christmas Eve as a public holiday and only opens at 9:00 a.m. But we only found out about this through an employee who happened to be walking to his car. This behavior only pleases the competitors who are in the immediate vicinity.

Cold, old, unseasoned and totally dried-out fish carelessly packed into a limp bread roll without any sauce or anything, add a single lettuce leaf and you have what is probably the worst baked fish roll of all time. And paid just under €5 for it. Sorry, but that's outrageous. We were here last time. In the fishing port shop window in Bremerhaven, the fish are only baked when you order the bread roll. You can also choose from different sauces. All for the same price. Then it’s better to go to Bremerhaven.

Rolls are very tasty. However, the service that served us today was rude and very unfriendly and unprofessional. So a roll without tartar sauce? We should buy a cup of tartar sauce from the fridge if we want some. Oof! The fact that she sold us the wrong sandwiches at first, which can definitely happen, we're all just human, wasn't a bad thing in itself. But the way this woman deals with it was it. Maybe wrong career choice, you don't know. Even at 3:30 p.m., 30 minutes before closing time, you have to expect customers!
