Very friendly staff and delicious food.

Eating here hasn't had anything to do with the harbor for a long time. Everything is very expensive. Frozen food fried in a deep fryer and greasy fried potatoes from a bucket.

The herring roll wasn't good for me; the roll itself was poor quality, soggy and not crispy. For a fish restaurant/snack bar in a fishing harbor, it was absolutely overpriced for hot fish dishes.

The saleswoman was incredibly unfriendly! The usual fish sandwiches weren't available, and they weren't fresh either. The only positive thing was the price... What a shame.

We actually wanted to eat at the neighboring restaurant today. Unfortunately, it was temporarily closed. So we decided on Bohlsen. And we were delighted. The young service team was extremely friendly and attentive. They also served a delicious homemade dark beer. We ate a fish platter and the Bühsum-style plaice. These were so delicious that we forgot to take a photo. So, all we got were empty plates. But they speak louder than a thousand words.

It's gone downhill considerably. We got overpriced fish there that didn't taste good. We won't be going back.

When we want fresh fish in Cuxenhausen, this is always our first stop. The quality and prices are good, and it's perfect for a quick bite to eat. 👉👉👉Eel smoked herring in a roll, fantastic.

The service is excellent. Very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is also good. But the food didn't impress us. You can see it in the photos. Everything should have been left in the oil much longer. The fried potatoes should have a hash brown flavor, so they need to be browned a bit. The fries were also taken out of the fryer too early. And the fish also needed more time to get some color on the outside. For €23/€27 per dish, I expect a better result.

We've been coming back to Cuxhaven for years, and every year a visit to Bohlsen is a must. The staff is always very accommodating and friendly. There's something for every age and every palate (children's menus, senior meals, and regular portions). Everything we've eaten so far has always been delicious! This time too. We'd love to come back next year!

The fried herring I bought was okay. The fried fish sandwich was terrible. A rubbery roll with a bit of cold fried fish. No thanks. That was the first and last time.

I've rarely eaten such good fish. 100% recommend it. Despite a minor incident with a "mother" 😂.

If the standard snack menu is sufficient for you, you'll be satisfied. The prices just don't quite match it. The fried potatoes are abysmal, as they're more like deep-fried fish. The fish is "fried" with wobbly skin. So, if that doesn't bother you, enjoy your meal. The service is adequate and very friendly.

We arrived at Bohlsen's, waited just outside the covered terrace, and were given a table outside that we hadn't reserved. I found the staff very attentive. (For example, guests with dogs arrived later, and a bowl of water was provided without the guests mentioning it.) We had plaice fillet "Büsum style." It was delicious. We will be back.

We had a very good meal here (plaice Nüsum style and lemon-lime fillet with fried potatoes). You have to wait a short time to enter and are assigned a seat. We were lucky and got the last spot on the terrace. The staff is friendly and efficient. It's a bit more expensive here than comparable locations. Recommended. 4.3 stars

Staff friendly, not intrusive, attentive

Top fish restaurant in Cuxhaven. Located right in the fishing harbor, with an attached fresh fish shop. We've been here several times and have also tried the other fish restaurants nearby. Bohlsen is our favorite. You sit very comfortably on a covered terrace and are greeted and served warmly and friendly. This time we had the house fish soup and the scampi skewers. I've also had Büsum plaice and other fish dishes. Everything was always freshly prepared and exceptionally delicious! Even the baked potato was excellent – that's really rare. The super friendly waitresses are really attentive and accommodating. When I ordered my fish soup, they asked me if I wanted a larger portion, as I obviously only wanted the fish soup. I thought that was fantastic! Thank you so much! We recommend Bohlsen to others, with some reservations, and are already looking forward to our next visit! Thank you so much!

Service was terrible. We spontaneously wanted to go out to dinner with seven people on a Friday lunchtime. Even though only three of the approximately 15 tables were occupied, they refused to serve us because we hadn't made a reservation. It wasn't possible to put the tables together either. So we went to the neighboring restaurant, which was very happy to serve us. Apparently, Bohlsen doesn't need it anymore!

Had two fish sandwiches to go. The herring sandwich was okay, with a small herring. The fried fish sandwich was terrible. The fish was served cold on a sandwich, without remoulade, and with a leaf of lettuce. I expected something better from a renowned fishmonger in Cuxhaven. Unfortunately, I don't recommend it!!!

We were there on vacation with our two children (8 years and 8 months). Everything was great. The food was delicious and served relatively quickly. The waitress was very friendly that day. So we decided to go back. Reserved a table easily. On the day of the reservation, we weren't quite on time due to our infant. We tried calling the restaurant several times to report this, but no one answered the phone seven times. We had a table reservation for 6:30 p.m., and we arrived at 6:41 p.m. We were given a big stare and treated extremely rudely. Absolutely condescending (from the very waitress we had previously rewarded with a generous tip!!!). There were several free tables outside, but we were told to leave. Sorry, but the lady recognized us immediately, so she knew we had an infant, so you can expect a 10-minute waiting time!!! And then you have to answer the phone. Unfortunately, this experience was very disappointing!

We were there today and originally wanted to eat and drink there. After waiting for a while for a table assignment, we signaled for a table with the obviously annoyed waitress. Shortly afterward, a table in the shade became available, and we moved. The waitress complained that we had left the table without properly putting the chairs back in their place, saying she would have to deal with them again. I went back and moved the chairs to the table. They were still not right. She rearranged them. Then it took a while before we were served. The drinks came out of the wrong place. By then, we'd lost our appetites. We said so. The waitress commented: "Well, then, no, not at all!" What a shame! Staff shortages or not, but if the staff is this unfriendly, the restaurant soon needs to run out. We live here and have always enjoyed eating and drinking there. But thank goodness Cuxhaven has plenty of other places to eat.

We wanted to go out to dinner with six people and wanted to put two tables together. The staff immediately reprimanded us rudely. We left immediately. Apparently, the hospitality of the guests hasn't yet arrived here. We will avoid this restaurant in the future!

Terrible service. As new arrivals, we were greeted very expansively by a "manager" (a dark-haired, approximately 1.65m tall woman on August 5, 2025, at approximately 3:30 PM). A single, brief, and quiet, unfortunately easily missed "hello" was ignored by my partner and, shockingly, resulted in a very expansive and unprofessional response from the service provider, making us, as guests and paying customers, feel very uncomfortable. If this behavior becomes more frequent, I wouldn't be surprised if we see fewer, or eventually no, solvent customers coming soon.

Anyone wanting to eat fish at the harbor doesn't have quite as much choice as they did a while ago. To be honest, we used to always go to the competitor, Rolf and Inge, but this year we discovered they're no longer open, so we stopped by Bohlsen's. The atmosphere is okay, a typical fish restaurant by the harbor, and you can also sit outside. However, the outside area is covered with a tarpaulin (the risk of bad weather is certainly present in the north ;-). This brings me to a point that really bothered me: guests are actually allowed to smoke in the covered outdoor area, which means that instead of enjoying the healthy North Sea air, you might be hit by the blue haze of inconsiderate contemporaries, which impairs or even ruins your appetite and is simply disgusting and, especially if you're there with small children, annoying. The food was good, the value for money was okay, and the service was very friendly, but the smoke-free policy should be consistently enforced. One person's freedom ends where another's is infringed.

Everything is coated in a rather unappealing, thick coating. The portions are getting smaller and smaller, the prices ever higher. All in all, there are better options in Cuxhaven.

Very good, good service, for years I like to come here when I am in Cuxhaven

We asked for a table and were told to choose, but because of our children, we took the corner table. There were still three glasses there. After waiting for about 10 minutes, I signaled to a member of staff. A few minutes later, someone came and fetched the glasses. We announced our desire to eat. He was surprised and wanted to inform his colleague. Then guests arrived at the neighboring table. About five minutes later, the colleague arrived and went to the other table. I told her that we would be waiting well over 15 minutes. She then scolded me very rudely. We hadn't asked her for a table, and if there were glasses on the table (they had already been collected about 10 minutes earlier), she wouldn't come. She then ignored us again. We left immediately. We certainly didn't need to be yelled at (in front of an audience). The fish from the small fish menu was delicious, and the service impeccable.

Very very tasty, friendly staff

The food was fine. I was just surprised that I had to pay €3.90 for a glass of table water. The menu said: 0.33l table water. Of course, I expected a 0.33l bottle, but it was a 0.3l glass of water. The waitress couldn't understand my complaint. She said I shouldn't get so upset about it so the other guests wouldn't notice. I just wanted to point out to her that in reputable restaurants here in Cuxhaven, I can get a 0.33l bottle of branded mineral water for less than €3.90. She then canceled the water order. Unfortunately, our last day here in Cuxhaven wasn't so pleasant.

We've been going to Cux for a long time and always eat there. The service was very friendly, the food was good and you got full. The fish meatballs weren't as good as they used to be. We always liked to take several with us to take home, too. From now on we'll buy one and try it out. They used to be much better.

Very good fish restaurant, the fish was fresh, and the fried potatoes were also very good. (Not everyone can do that.) The price/performance ratio is absolutely fine. This is a must on a vacation in Cuxhaven! Sunday lunchtime, no reservation required.

Today was our second time eating here on our vacation. We were familiar with the restaurant from previous vacations. The food is brought to the table very quickly, is hot, fresh, delicious, and more than enough – if you're used to normal portions. The entire team is very friendly and works very quickly. We would especially like to highlight the service employee Anna, who has an incredibly sweet and gentle nature and is exceptionally kind, helpful, and accommodating to all guests!!! This is the best fish restaurant in town. You can also buy fresh fish there. We got a table right away at lunchtime during the week. Our drinks arrived in five minutes, and the food only took ten minutes. The fried herring is a dream.

Bei schlechtem Wetter wollten wir das Wrack & Fischereimuseum besuchen und mittags etwas essen. Auf der suche nach dem richtigen Weg spülte uns ein heftiger Regenschauer buchstäblich in das Fischrestaurant. Wir konnten noch an einem großen Tisch Platz nehmen. Das Lokal war gut besucht. Wir entschieden uns für Rotbarschfilet. Es gab eine Seniorenportion und eine normale Portion. Meine Frau nahm die kleine Portion, die aber völlig ausreichte. Ich bekam die dreifache Menge serviert. Hier haben wir vorzüglichen Fisch gegessen, da sehr frisch. Trotz Personalmangel war die Bedienung gut und sehr freundlich. Kann man nur weiter empfehlen.
