I ended up there by chance with a few friends. It wasn't a mistake to go in. Rustic atmosphere, friendly and quick service and the freshly prepared fish dishes were very tasty. I would eat here again in a heartbeat.

We had the cutter plaice and cod, both with fried potatoes. The food was very good and we were served friendly and quickly. Gladly again.

Otherwise, it's a nice harbor restaurant with no frills, you feel like you've been transported back to earlier times. This is great, it couldn't be fresher

We were there at around 6 p.m., one service for the entire restaurant... well, we already waited 15 minutes for the menu. The food was now rather average, unfortunately the price/performance ratio wasn't really right. We paid €58 for two people without a starter. The service wasn't exactly friendly either and seemed rather annoyed and listless. The ambience is nice, but everything needs to be renewed (very yellowed). Also, unfortunately my beer glass was dirty🤷🏼‍♂️

For those who want to have the classic North Sea fishing experience, it doesn't get any better than this. The quality of the food is exorbitantly high and the ambience is simply on point. You sit directly in the room where the dishes are prepared. The clothing also takes on the pleasant scent of fried fish specialties, so you can even take it home with you as a souvenir. The prices are great, the staff works like a well-oiled machine. The shop was there when I was a child and it is still exactly the same. When I go on vacation to Cux, I go there first and only then have I arrived.

We were in Cuxhaven for the first time today and wanted to eat fish. I had the fried fish with fried potatoes and my wife had the herring in cream sauce. We go to the coast very often and always eat fish. What we got was pretty much the worst fried fish I've ever eaten. Yes, it was frozen but you can season it too. The fried potatoes didn't deserve the name, pale, wasn't an expression. Fried fish tastes better at every fair. The drinks came very late (we were already eating). Staff was frustrated and annoyed (I cleaned the table myself). Toilet doors couldn't be locked. All in all, I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.

The restaurant is quaint and has Nordic charm, the service is on point and helpful. The food also came very quickly. However, I'm not sure about the taste... The salad/dressing tasted very familiar and the hollandaise sauce was also very reminiscent of the ready-made sauce from the supermarket. Still tasty but questionable for the money...

Best fish restaurant in Cuxhaven. 🤩 Always very, very tasty.

The visit was a spontaneous stop after briefly skimming through the reviews. The waitress came quite early and brought the menu outside to our table without much enthusiasm. After ordering, we also received our drinks quite quickly. After we took the first sip, however, we noticed that both the glass of the soft drink and the wheat glass were incredibly dirty. We pointed this out to the waitress (another person who spoke very poor German) and asked for new drinks. We got these after about 10 minutes, but the glasses were still not as clean as you would expect. Due to some time pressure, we did not complain again. The food came relatively quickly (plaice and a schnitzel). The plaice and the side dishes were great, the schnitzel looked like frozen pressed cardboard. YES, it is a high quality fish restaurant, but I didn't expect such poor quality with the schnitzel. We also ordered mayo with the fries, which was forgotten at the first attempt and served without emotion. The food arrived at the next table shortly after us and the lady told the waiter that she hadn't ordered béchamel sauce with her fish but rather a mustard sauce. The lady had almost finished her fish when we left the restaurant - we will probably never know whether she still received her mustard sauce with the fish. Based on our experience, I unfortunately cannot understand the really good reviews. Unfortunately, the ambience and cleanliness of the inside cannot be rated as we were only outside.

World, hear my opinion! After a day of hard walking through the beautiful town of Cuxhaven, my feet were craving some rest and my stomach was craving some filling, and I decided to visit this local inn. It turned out to be a joy beyond compare! Not only did the staff treat the guests in a very loving and friendly manner, no - the food they ordered also turned out to be a splendid meal! The fine fish platter that I chose offered a wonderful cornucopia of variety of textures and flavors, and due to the exquisite presentation it was not only a feast for the palate but also a feast for the eyes! This stop was rounded off by the rustic-nautical ambience I preferred, which makes my heart beat faster! It should also be mentioned that from my place next to the door I had a view of many beautiful pictures of ships and elderly gentlemen and I noticed that the ones with pipes in their mouths were placed twice! I would like to give an additional star for this consistent decoration, but Google refuses to allow me to do so. Finally I would like to say very good, gladly again, 10/10.

The place was packed...Very, very tasty. Best so far in Cuxhaven / surrounding area. Nothing needs to be renovated here... I think it's great that way.

We were here for the first time. Actually rather coincidental. It's really nicely laid out inside. Rustic but attractive. I found it really nice. The service took some getting used to. The young man tried very hard, but the older woman didn't bat an eyelid, which didn't come across as particularly nice. The fish was really delicious. However, it was served without anything, a bit carelessly, on the plate. Taste was good, so we didn't care. But I found the fried potatoes too pale and not really fried. It might just be my opinion because I prefer them crispier. Overall, still a good impression.

I've been eating in this restaurant for around 10 years, initially several times a week. The fish still tastes very good. However, the staff has clearly lost some of their friendliness compared to before. It's a shame, because eating is not just what's on the plate but also the trimmings.

Great fish menu and good freshly caught fish. Price-performance ratio is top. Unfortunately we only had one seat in the front area facing the street. Behind the building you sit facing the harbor and have a great view...then it would have been given the fifth star... Still, thumbs up...

We ate at the fish market several times and would always come back there. The very rustic and, in my opinion, a little outdated restaurant with the adjacent fish exchange - a direct fish sales outlet - is certainly one of the top addresses in Cuxhaven when it comes to quality. Located in the middle of the seaport between Kudder and the wholesale market, the restaurant offers an indoor area with a direct view of the kitchen, outdoor lighting facing the harbor basin, which is not always open, and around 8 - 10 tables in the direct entrance area on the street. We found the decoration inside a bit lavish, which threatens to overwhelm you alongside lifebuoys, numerous ship buildings, pictures of sailors from the last century and the typical North German knotting school. Not all of the decorations have been viewed yet, and the food is already on the table. And that is truly something to behold! Here you get fish in a wafer-thin, crispy penade instead of a dough shell filled with a little fish. There was, as it should be, a portion of good fried potatoes like mother's. From our point of view, the fish market is a kind of insider tip, especially since there are places that are better advertised and have more stars on Google. We actually tried it out and were blinded by reviews - well, this is just one. But if I'm served fried potatoes that are swimming in oil and the fish isn't cooked through, even the best reviews are of no use to me. Here in the fish exchange the fish practically jumps from the cutter into the pan and from the pan directly onto the plate. Anyone who can forego external appearances - i.e. the lack of chic-and-micki demeanor that is typical of a 5-star Michellin restaurant - and instead places more value on fresh and really good fish should get their money's worth here at the fish exchange. It should also be mentioned that you can buy all kinds of fresh fish specialties right next door in the shop, from delicious fried roll mops to herring stew, so that nothing stands in the way of your culinary delights within your own four walls. We give it a full 5 stars for the Fish Exchange's excellent cuisine and the always friendly service. But just take a look for yourself... Oh, one more thing - KI recommends the fish platter for 2 people with "Attention!" Potatoes... But we prefer the delicious fried potatoes!

Food was great, atmosphere, you just sit outside on the street. But you can buy smoked meats, fresh crabs and fresh fish. Everything okay.

The fish was okay, although we have eaten better. Unfortunately the drinks weren't cold. What caught the eye were some unused tables and used paper napkins in the corners of the terrace. However, the service was very friendly. We don't have to have it again.

Super good, we would love to come back again and again. The atmosphere is rustic, adapted to fishing. You discover different things the more you come back. The food is great and the portions are good. Let's go.......

Unfortunately we were given a beer in a dirty, greasy glass smudged with lipstick. Of course I criticized this, after a short time the beer came back, but it was still smeared, only the lipstick was gone! It looked as if someone had briefly wiped it with a cloth, but only superficially, as there were visible traces of smear on the edge of the glass. We then wiped for a longer time with a serving to get the glass clean!! It was just sloppy behavior, on the one hand you should clean a glass properly, on the other hand, if it is already dirty and customers complain about it, you should make sure that the guest receives a clean glass after the complaint, and not just a quick one wipe around it!! Then the women's toilets were in very poor condition, one broken and completely dirty, the other functional but also very dirty.

The quaint fish restaurant in all of Cuxhaven.

During our two-week stay on the North Sea, we went to the Cuxhaven fish exchange in the afternoon based on a recommendation. Although we didn't have a reservation for our small group (5 people), we managed to get a table with some organizational skills from the extremely friendly staff. The guests sitting there (2 people) had just paid and cleared the table. On the second visit during the holiday, occupancy with a group of six on a Wednesday evening was no problem at all. First about the ambience: The fish market is an absolute cult! Even for me, who a) hadn't had much to do with fish before and b) hadn't been able to set foot in the location before, let alone try it out from a culinary point of view; This was immediately apparent upon entering the store. The kitchen is located right in the middle of the restaurant, so that guests can constantly look over their shoulders while the food is being prepared. There are dozens of sea creatures hanging in the restaurant - from lobsters to puffer fish and various other fish, as well as numerous exhibits from ships and old advertising boards. The ambience conveys exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like this: homely, friendly atmosphere, genuine and honest craftsmanship paired with well-priced food and drinks. And don't forget: Absolutely freshly caught quality fish! We paid just under EUR 102 for our group of 5 - with five main courses each (3x fish stock platter with 2x fried potatoes and 1x fries, calamari with fries and chicken nuggets with fries as well as five non-alcoholic 0.5l drinks) an absolute top -Price. The drinks arrived almost 5 minutes after ordering and the food was at the table almost 10-15 minutes after ordering - despite the restaurant being very full. Quality of the food at the highest level, we would visit the location again at any time. Unreserved recommendation - but maybe reserve in advance to be on the safe side... ;)

My companion and I ordered a Sprite, a Coke and the fish stock platter for two people. I haven't had such rude and inattentive service in a long time. The drink delivery took a long time. Additionally, I noticed that the glass of my drink was still dirty from the previous guest. It was immediately replaced by another waitress (I hope). In the back area there are already prepared plates with ready-made salad and lemon on them (flies were flying around the whole room). After a long wait we received our fish platter. I have to say, I have never seen anything so loveless. The fish dish was drowned in oil and unseasoned or very bland. The three types of fish were indistinguishable. Everything was dry and overcooked. The fried potatoes were partly black and tasteless. We asked about the sauce that was supposed to come with the dish according to the menu. We were told that the sauce was not included and had to be ordered separately. Instead we were brought ready-made garlic cream. The portions were unevenly distributed and the fish was just thrown away. Luckily no one asked how it tasted. The ambience is rustic decorated. Toilets are in a rather unkempt condition. A liquid leaks on the walkway (next to the counter).

Just total loss, the food was neither tasty nor appetizingly prepared. Everything was swimming in oil, the fish or the fish platter was slapped onto the plate so carelessly. The fried potatoes were soggy and the small pieces were burnt and also carelessly “dressed” with a blob of lettuce. The sauce that was supposed to accompany the dish was suddenly not available or only available at an additional cost. The older lady in service also missed the job with her friendliness. The ambience is nice if you like it rustic and also a loud cafeteria feeling. All in all - not recommended!

Spontaneously visit this restaurant. We had fish with fried potatoes. We thought it was a shame the little dip e.g. Tartar sauce not included. Do you have to pay extra? Fish was tasty, fried potatoes were ok, could be better. Dutch sauce not homemade, a shame. Small salad costs extra, was good and tasty. In all respects we can recommend this. Quite ok in terms of price.

My husband and I ordered the “Fischbörse” fish platter for two people. We both had stomach pains and diarrhea afterwards. Never again!

Our food was worse than bad. Only one waitress understood German. Wait 30 minutes for a coke. There wasn't even a bit of fish in the starter. But the store looks good and Cola tasted like Cola.

As always, more than well eaten, today the fish market platter for 2 and once cod (soooo delicious) 😋

Unfortunately I cannot agree with the good reviews (which were the reason for our visit). To eat: The fish itself was good, no question. But the fried potatoes were partially burnt, a note for people who don't eat pork/meat that the side dish "fried potatoes" also contains meat, I think. (to be fair, I'm not sure if it was mentioned on the menu among the supplements). Serving a light fish like plaice with peppers and zucchini as a vegetable side dish, which has a strong taste, was something I personally didn't like at all. It's a shame, the fish was so bad. By "butter sauce" I actually imagined a special sauce instead of just melted butter in a bowl. Overall, the dish was too greasy for me and there was probably little thought given to the individual components of the dish. Given the price, I would have expected something more than "grandmother's kitchen". A piece of lemon would have been nice too, as a little acid wouldn't have harmed the dish, but that's just my taste. Service: The staff was clearly stressed because there seemed to be too many guests for too little service. Can happen. No go are complaining waitresses who loudly complain about colleagues and also shout at guests (us) when we enter the restaurant to ask whether there is still room and whether there is still warm food. We had quite a long wait and were almost ready to leave. I think that putting 2 almost empty ketchup bottles in a restaurant, where it's already obvious that we're going to ask for a third bottle, and generally charging 50 cents each for ketchup and/or mayo with the fries, is somehow a bit too much for meals over €20... inappropriate. The play area for the little ones was great! We won't eat there again, but the fish sale is great and deserves all the stars.

We've been coming to the Cuxhaven fish exchange for years when we're on vacation. The food is delicious, portions are sufficient, price-performance ratio is ok. The service is ok. Points deducted for the not particularly clean toilets and the not clean tables outside. There should be improvements there. Update August 2024: unfortunately the quality has decreased, the salmon fillet is far too dry and overcooked. This shouldn't happen in a fish restaurant. Unfortunately, there was no response at all to the constructive criticism. The cleanliness still leaves something to be desired. The menus are sticky and worn inside and out. The tables are not wiped down after people change. Something should be done here urgently. After previous good experiences, we have to adjust our rating downwards. Unfortunately it's more mass than class. Unfortunately it no longer has anything to do with a good fish restaurant. Very unfortunate. The outdoor floorboards should also be urgently repaired. There are some large holes in there that I broke into with the chair.

I love this fish restaurant in the harbor district of Cuxhaven 😍 Here I have a lot of fresh fish on my plate for a really fair price 👍 Went there again today, a rustic place, maybe a little over-decorated for modern tastes, but I like it. Price/performance is simply more important to me in these times!!! You can park for free in the parking lot opposite the restaurant for your visit to the restaurant, otherwise a parking ticket is required almost everywhere - now from 00:00 a.m. to midnight. At the front you can also eat outside on the street on a plateau, .....During the day there is also a fresh fish sale here and you can eat super delicious fish sandwiches. I can only recommend it 👍.... we always like to come back 😃
