Gasthof Schmidt in Nürnberg

We eat there regularly. Unfortunately, the sauerbraten this time was unacceptable: the meat was tough and riddled with gristle. We sent it back. They didn't apologize. A shame. The service could definitely be better.

We were invited to a 70th birthday party and celebrated with coffee and dinner. The food was delicious and plentiful, and despite the large number of guests, it arrived promptly. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and efficient. They frequently checked on everyone to make sure they had a drink.

If you like seasonal dishes, you've hit the mark with the mushroom sauces. The service was friendly and quick; the entire dining room was packed, so there were some waits, but considering you could handle it all on your own, it was totally fine.

The food was good, but the service was terrible... we had reservations, including the food! We were looking forward to it for a while, only to hear that the last one had just been sold out and it wasn't available anymore! Awful... we didn't order anything and left. It was good years ago... The duck was excellent, especially in terms of quantity, with plenty of tender meat, two dumplings, and a large bowl of red cabbage. I highly recommend it.

Very friendly staff!!! Great atmosphere!!! And a very tasty meal!!! Today we had carp of various sizes with a salad, and we really enjoyed it! The price is reasonable. For dessert, we had pear cake, which you don't get everywhere. So, we were very satisfied.

We were there on a Sunday at 5.30pm. I asked if they had sauerbraten. They said yes, and I thought, wow, they even serve sauerbraten in the evening, it's great. But if I had known that, I wouldn't have ordered it. The meat was as tough as soup meat and I had to work hard to cut it into pieces and then long tendons stretched when I cut it. I think it was from the morning and had simply been warmed up. The dumplings - I've never eaten bad dumplings, the ones from the pre-packaged ones were hard and floury. But I also think these were simply warmed up. Because dumplings after a few hours when you warm them up, they're supposed to be mushy and almost fall apart. The food was a disaster. Thank goodness I had my dog with me, who got all the meat, but he got diarrhea that evening. The salad was fresh and tasty. The drinks were also very good beer. Service was always friendly and the food came quickly too. Now I know why. Maybe we'll try something different to eat there. The atmosphere is actually nice, too.

We went there several times about five years ago, but we were extremely annoyed with the manager. My girlfriend ordered a vegetable plate, while everyone else had carp and schnitzel. The vegetable plate arrived about 30 minutes later than everyone else's meal. When we asked where the plate was beforehand, we were simply told the cheeky "Yes, if you want to eat at the same time, you have to let us know beforehand." We haven't been back since.

Good, family-run restaurant. The food is good, with moderate portions. It's always very busy without a reservation, especially on weekends. Unfortunately, the food often doesn't arrive at the same time for my table, so that's no longer an option for me.

Five of us were there on Mother's Day. I've been there twice before, and absolutely NOTHING has changed. 1. Service was completely overwhelmed. Our server was very friendly and explained why it was taking so long: - The boss takes on an enormous number of people and parties without any planning. The main thing is that the money is right that evening. - But the kitchen just can't manage it. 2. The kitchen can't even manage to serve everyone. (They're completely overwhelmed.) It doesn't matter if there are two fewer parties or 20 fewer people. The kitchen can't satisfy everyone in a fair time (delivering food). - Drinks took 45 minutes. - Soup arrived after 1.5 hours, and then another 15 minutes later... (the first person had already finished their soup). - Food arrived after over 2 hours. The wrong food arrived. - Ordered: 2x Schäufele (shoulder of pork). They just brought knuckle of pork. Oh, do you want to eat that too, because the shoulder of pork is unfortunately out... That's NOT OK!!!! The salads came ONLY BECAUSE we specifically asked for them. Otherwise, they would have simply been forgotten. Bad! The savoy cabbage was also simply out. That's the only reason two people ordered this dish. Let's get to the only positive thing: The food was good, the portion was OK.

We were there today on Mother's Day and waited a whole 1 1/2 hours for food... 1 hour just for the starter. The drinks only came after 45 minutes. There were 2 birthday parties that day... The kitchen? No comment. Extremely overwhelmed and overloaded. The bosses? Doesn't seem to care. The main thing is that the money flows. The last time we ate there was 6 years ago and even with a larger group we had to wait a long time for the food. Now there were 6 of us and we wanted to give it another chance... Too early to get excited! The soups came after 1 hour. But here only 1 soup out of 6 was brought. After our friend finished the soup, the rest came after 10 minutes! Then the food came. Savoy cabbage vegetables were also ordered. After asking again it was said that this was not possible and a salad could be offered as an alternative. This notice was not previously communicated to us. I myself had ordered shovels, which were no longer there, instead they brought me a knuckle, WITHOUT ASKING FIRST IF I WOULD EVEN WANT IT. Information shortly after ordering would be the minimum and the guest would be asked whether it was OK at all. Goes.... We don't blame the waiter as he was very calm and nice. But here there is clearly a failure on the part of the management in the planning, which also shows zero consideration for the kitchen and the staff. The main thing is that the store is full and the money is flowing. We were very disappointed and won't be coming back again because, unfortunately, the problem hasn't changed and there doesn't seem to be any change in sight.

Nice village inn with Franconian food

We've eaten there several times and I can only recommend it. It's always quite busy (we're only there on weekends) so it's worth reserving a table.

I chose Schäufele today. When I ordered I was informed that there were no more available. 30 minutes later, one Schäufele one after the other is carried to other tables. When I asked which lucky bag they had come from, the waitress told me that she had been told that Schäufele was out. I can be kidding myself. Another German restaurant that I'm canceling for myself.

Were there on Easter Sunday. The quality of the food has suffered a lot in the last few months. The food didn't come anywhere near together. The drinks took forever. The service was super stressed and unfriendly. The sauerbraten was unfortunately tough and the sauce was slippery, the cordon bleu was very tasty, but unfortunately a small portion. The asparagus was watery and the hollondaise sauce was tasteless. The fish fillet was a thick, baked roll (!?) full of bones, very unappetizing, which we had to return. In the end we were forgotten and our second round of drinks didn't come. When we wanted to pay (about 45 minutes later), drinks suddenly arrived, which we no longer needed because half of our guests had already left. We were then shouted at when paying, saying that drinks and food were only kindly taken back and that we actually had to pay for them... well, it's a shame, we've been eating there for decades, but that was already the third bad experience there. That’s it for us now… And of course Easter Sunday, very full, very busy, I completely understand and also have the necessary patience, but if I can't manage to deliver in service or in the kitchen, then I shouldn't use my restaurant to capacity (2 booking slots for lunch) and I really feel sorry for service staff who have their first day on Easter Sunday, especially if they are constantly being insulted in front of the entire team behind the counter...

I had eaten a roast venison. Tender meat, two dumplings. Simply delicious. Friendly service that listens to your wishes. Cozy dining room. TOP!

Früher war das fränkische Lokal aufgrund seiner hervorragenden Küche sehr beliebt, inzwischen ist das Essen unterirdisch. Trotz 30 Minuten Wartezeit auf das Essen nur aufgewärmte Klöße, das Fleisch (Schäufele und Schälrippchen von der Tageskarte) trocken, verbraten und geschmacklos. Die Einheitssoße war aus der Packung, undefinierbar und reine Mehlpampe. Die Toiletten- und Sanitäranlagen teilweise unbenutzbar und ungepflegt. Wir sind sehr enttäuscht, da wir früher regelmäßig Gäste waren und der Generationenwechsel einen deutlichen Hinweis auf Desinteresse und möglichen Ende des Traditionsgasthof zeigt. Sehr schade.

There were eight of us there that evening. Service was rather slow (I think I had to pour the drinks myself; the beer was a brand of beer 🤔). The restaurant was busy, with hardly any free tables. Drinks took a while to arrive, but the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, the appetizer was a bit of a nuisance... With eight people, we had five different main courses. I can wholeheartedly recommend the baked carp, and the crispy roast duck can be safely ignored (far from crispy). The Wiener Schnitzel (veal, of course) is a matter of luck or unluck (we had it twice, once good, once mediocre). We then waited 45 minutes for dessert. Unfortunately, no one even asked for a second or third drink. Conclusion: Highly recommended for carp, but everything else can be eaten just as well elsewhere.

I can understand the negative reviews! Yesterday we were at Schmid's for the xth time and there were many things wrong again. Yesterday the service was very nice and quick. My carp fillet was very fatty and only lukewarm. There were remains of another fish underneath my fish. Disgusting!! For me, that was it. You also smell like old grease as if you had fallen into the drip pan. Turning on ventilation would be helpful. Electricity must be affordable in terms of prices.

Unfortunately, today was the third time in a row that I ordered dishes to be picked up by phone and then the dishes weren't ready by the time they were picked up, let alone started cooking the dishes. I won't say anything if you have to wait a bit, but 50 minutes is a bit long. There was also no apology for the long waiting time. Unfortunately, this wasn't an isolated case either... Unfortunately, the quality of the food also declines... Even though we have been customers for a long time, this will be the last time we order food there.... Too bad...

Many older people are still enthusiastic, which I can't quite understand. The best part: you get full. Period. I've been there three times, which should rule out a bad day for the staff. Overall, the service is more "rustic" than friendly. Since the business has many days off, the staff shouldn't be as overworked as others that only have one day off but still remain friendly. The food is average, and the wait times (even for pick-up) are sometimes inexplicable. Picking up carp only started after saying "come in an hour," and then I had to wait another 45 minutes in the hallway with a few others until I got my food. Almost two hours for a fish that sometimes tastes better elsewhere... by then, I'm already hungry. The service seems disinterested and listless. Cutlery is sometimes forgotten, and no one asks if you want something to drink. The last time I visited was after a funeral, and what was served there and how sensitive the staff was is something I'd better keep to myself. To let guests stay there, you have to say PLEASE PLEASE so they can see the rooms. I ended up booking a run-of-the-mill hotel. I don't feel appreciated or welcome as a guest, and many people around me feel the same way.

Great family business, it was a Saturday evening and extremely crowded, no wonder everyone was hungry. It's amazing how well they still have the store under control. We had to wait for our carp but drinks were always provided. Quality of the food is great. This is just a tavern where everyone helps to keep things running.

Service was bad. We were not brought to our reserved table and asked to search in one of their room. After 15min we have seen service person and no menu. Its looked like people looked through us. Therefore we left.

Decent German cuisine is cooked with love here using old recipes to spoil us customers. The carp is simply delicious, just like the game. But certainly all other dishes too. What I also like: Homemade apple juice!

We were at Gasthaus Schmidt at 2 p.m. today. I asked in a friendly manner whether there would be anything else to eat, and the first answer, looking at the clock, was “Not anymore!”. After a short pause, the lady at the counter said, “What would you have wanted?” We said we enjoyed the carp. This was immediately denied on the grounds that it would take too long. We could have roast venison or Schäuferle. We were happy and then ordered two Schäuferle. After what felt like 10 - 12 minutes the Schäuferle came - a carp didn't take much longer. Doesn't matter. Unfortunately the Schäuferle was anything but fresh. It was dry and totally dark on the outside, the crust was typical Konvektomat. It had nothing to do with fresh, it also tasted very strange - indefinable. Anyone who knows me knows that I know exactly what a fresh Schäuferle should look like, let alone what a fresh one tastes like. Unfortunately, we were insulted in the worst possible way when we tried to point out that something was wrong with the Schäuferle. I wasn't allowed to speak to the chef either, but we were immediately billed and told to pay (we only paid for the drinks, which of course we had hardly touched) and to leave the restaurant immediately and never come back. That's what I call super friendly customer loyalty. Unfortunately, I don't have the words to describe this visit in the slightest....NEVER AGAIN!!

Finally a young man came and asked, I repeated that we had booked a table. He looked and couldn't find a reservation. A queue had already formed behind us, and everyone was then kindly escorted to their tables. The four of us were still standing there and were simply ignored. Even if there was a lot going on in the restaurant, that's not how you treat the guests. In any case, it was the last time we went there, we've never experienced anything like it and they definitely lost a lot of customers. Never again Gasthof Schmidt in Katzwang.

German local with good cuisine. Also perfect for trade fairs or business people as a hotel alternative as it is centrally located but has the peace and quiet of the village.

Unfortunately the evening didn't go as normal!! The food came very late, sometimes only when the first person had finished eating. The food was overly spicy that evening. When we complained about this, there was no response from the waitress. except that something went wrong!!! There was no response to a proper apology or even when asked about a small thing. Unfortunately, I have to say, this is no appreciation for the customers who have been coming to eat for years. You could offer customers a coffee or a schnapps, even if something goes wrong. It would be so easy. !!!! It's just a shame that you have to leave here with a bad feeling, even though the food is otherwise always good.

Disaster! We were there last Sunday evening with 8 people as part of a birthday party. After 10 minutes, 4 drinks came and after another 10 minutes another 4. The food was also served 2 pieces approximately every 10 minutes. The first was a Cordon Bleu and the last one (over 1/2 hour later) was also a Cordon Bleu. Our hostess was given 2 bratwursts with the information that the desired side dish was no longer available and that she should choose an alternative! I had roast veal. It was warmed up in the microwave until the sauce already had a skin. 2 mini dumplings were like rubber and worse than any industrial dumpling from a cooking bag. The side salads were brought just before the last main course, but only 7 instead of 8. One person had omelette with chanterelles and potatoes - all quite oversalted. The waitress and Ms. Schmidt personally noticed the chaos, but there was no reaction or even an apology! I haven't been to Gasthof Schmidt for a long time because of exactly the same problems. The same arrogance has been at work for years: as long as guests come, it can't be that bad. I'm definitely not coming anymore...!

Went to the beer garden for lunch. Great dishes, the veal steak with chanterelles was excellent! Plus a good small salad plate. Price/performance was absolutely fine. Gladly again.

We celebrated our confirmation with almost 30 guests at Gasthaus Schmidt and are full of praise. All of our guests were very satisfied with the quantities, quality and taste of the food. However, this is not a reason to leave a review. What was most memorable about this stay at Gasthaus Schmidt was the calm, calm, competent attention of Elena who served us. From the champagne reception to the payment process, Elena was always in the right place at the right time and, despite her quick work, she radiated a calmness that was transmitted to all guests. We thank you very much and give it a straight A.

The food was very good, the only thing that was a bit unfortunate was that we received our 4 dishes spread over 30 minutes. The service was very nice and attentive!

Serves a wonderful pork knuckle and asparagus soup is great

On Father's Day it was supposed to be the last stop for vespers. On this day of all days there was no vespers in the evening. Well, a delicious asparagus soup had to do. The butcher shop and asparagus sales were open. That was the deduction for eating. Otherwise highly recommended.

We were able to celebrate our son's baptism in the separate guest room, whose large doors lead directly onto the terrace. The food was very tasty, the service Elena was always friendly and on the ball and the price-performance ratio was great! For starters we had asparagus and a holiday soup. As a main course there were plenty of meat platters with party Schäuferla, schnitzels (pork/turkey) and pork medallions with side dishes. All dishes were served hot and our guests only received positive feedback. We would only have liked more space for the champagne reception. Here we stood in the outdoor area between the tables of the other guests. We are completely satisfied and will happily come back!

Have been to Gasthaus Schmidt again for a long time. Definitely a flop this time. There were four of us. The last one got his food when the first ones were finished. About the food: A salad plate was almost completely out of the bucket, not good. A roast pork, small portion, lukewarm, not particularly. I have never experienced two carp, so greasy and inedible. It's a shame, it used to be really good.

I'm really sorry, but the quality has really dropped a bit since this year :/ Our meal today really wasn't that good. Pork medallions were tough, unfortunately the fries weren't cooked through and the food portions were definitely smaller. Prices haven't really increased, but unfortunately the quality suffers. Will definitely try it again in the distant future. The new service was very friendly and nice.

We were here for the second time today. What was wonderful on the first visit from ordering to eating was such a shame today for my birthday party. It started when we ordered, Schäufele is no longer available at 12.30 p.m. then we look for something else. After ordering, the waitress came and said Knuckles were no longer available, and the mood was a bit dampened. Unfortunately only half of the food came, my roast pork was only lukewarm and the roulades. 3 people were finished eating when they said the 3 ducks would be coming soon but the dumplings weren't ready yet... it was very sad that a restaurant couldn't manage to bring the food to one table at the same time and one of them was eating to the other to be able to look. Unfortunately I have to say that's it for me and I won't be coming back.

The bratwursts we ordered, which were supposed to be Franconian, were like cheap sausages from the discount store. The accompanying potato salad was ice cold and carelessly prepared. The somewhat outdated service was Franconian stuffy and just as musty as the outdated inn. Noisy, musty, worn out because it hasn't been renovated for years. The prices are ok. - the extensive menu suggests a lot of warmed up food when it's available. Liver out - cordon bleu out - that's why we had to eat bratwursts that had the taste of Aldi, Lidl or Netto. Dear host family Schmidt - if you can't manage it due to a lack of staff, then reduce the menu and make the dishes of higher quality! Not much but good!!

Es war sehr voll, Gott sei Dank haben wir einen Tisch vorbestellt. Das Essen war sehr gut, bloß der Karpfen hätte etwas mehr Würze vertragen.

Nun am Freitag öffnet das Gasthaus um 10:30. Also haben wir uns entschieden da zu Speisen. Gegessen wurde Schnitzel Wiener Art mit Kartoffelsalat und Beilagensalat. Preislich ok, aber man darf kein Schnitzel halb Oberschale und halb Rücken oder so servieren. Das halbe Schnitzel war ok, aber die andere Hälfte nur sehnig und mit Knorpel. Leider habe ich die falsche Seite zuerst angeschnitten. Der Hunger war dann vorbei und ich habe das sehnige Fleisch abgeschnitten und das gute Teil eingepackt. Kartoffelsalat war ok, Beilagensalat ungenießbar da nur Strunkel. Schade!
