Gasthaus Bayerwald in Sankt Englmar

Wir waren heute zum dritten mal beim essen dort und wurden noch nicht enttäuscht. Die Wirtsleute sind sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen wird frisch gekocht und schmeckt hervorragend (Probiert wurden der Schweinebraten, Lüngerl, und Zander). Auch die Preise sind noch moderat! Die Wirtsstube ist schön hergerichtet und einladend. Der Platz ist begrenzt und ich würde eine Reservierung empfehlen. Dennoch hatte man immer noch Platz, wenn man etwas zusammenrückt. Das WC ist zwar im Keller, aber die lustigen Postkarten die überall an den Wänden hängen lässt einen mit einem Lachen zurück. Alles sauber und schön renoviert. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Waren jetzt schon zweimal essen abends. Pfannkuchen und Spätzle fürs Kind und ich hatte Tirol Gröstl und Schnitzel mit Pommes. Preis/Leistung super, Geschmack gut. Was ich gut fand, sind Kisten für die Kinder zum lesen/malen.

Super Essen, Top Service die Junge Dame hat Vollgas gegeben. Wir kommen wieder, weil alles einfach passt.

Ich habe hier die besten Salzkartoffeln meines Lebens gegessen. Sie haben meine Meinung über Kartoffeln komplett verändert. Man muss unbedingt die Salzkartoffeln mit Sauce Hollandaise probieren!

Alles perfekt, wir hatten Taufe unserer Tochter dort gefeiert. Super essen super Service.

Ein absolutes Träumchen, genauso wie die anderen Gerichte. Bärlauch Spätzle mit Schweinelende und auch die Desserts... Also wenn wir wieder an der Sommerrodelbahnen sind, kommen wir wieder zu euch.

Wir waren abends im Gasthaus essen. Das Essen war fantastisch. Egal ob Vorspeise, Hauptgericht oder Nachtisch. Und das alles zu absolut fairen Preisen. Das hat man nicht mehr oft. Danke!

Ein geführtes Familienhotel mit sehr freundlichen Besitzern. Es liegt direkt an einem Ski-Lift ,hat eine Sauna und für die oberen Etagen einen Fahrstuhl. Die Zimmer sind sauber ,aber eben etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Wir haben uns dort aber immer sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Preise für die Zimmer sind super und noch bezahlbar. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

The restaurant is incredibly good, and the food is made with love. How do I know? You can taste it. The restaurant is decorated with love and warmth. You should reserve a table, as the restaurant isn't that big. During our visit, several people were disappointed because all the tables were reserved.

Great food at fair prices. Friendly service, wait time was perfectly acceptable. The only criticisms, if any, were the fries...our son unfortunately didn't like them very much. Our children didn't try the Kaiserschmarrn as we know it either. Otherwise, very tasty and the portions were generous. We recommend reserving a table. It's a great place to end the evening after a day trip to the treetop walk or summer tobogganing.

...another year in St. Englmar...and what can I say...everything at the Gasthaus Bayerwald is still just as great as last year. You get a friendly welcome, even if you arrive half an hour early, and they're very flexible, even though the restaurant was packed. Very nice restaurant. All the dishes we ordered were excellent and highly recommended. Reservations are recommended, as the restaurant gets busy. We'll be back on our next trip to the region.

We spent a week on vacation here in the beautiful Bavarian Forest. We discovered this inn beforehand thanks to the good reviews, and they definitely proved to be true 👍😊. We ate there one evening and immediately reserved the same table for the rest of the days. The absolute highlight was the pork knuckle with side dishes, simply amazing 🤩. It's a shame the vacation didn't last longer, but the hearty food would definitely leave a mark 😅🙈. Highly recommended! 1A 🏆

The food here is good for a good price

A very nice inn with delicious food at fair prices. We spontaneously asked if there was a free table and got one very quickly, even though the inn was busy. Unfortunately, there are only a few outdoor seats.

The food is okay, but the waitress is a real pain. It takes half an hour to place an order and half an hour to pay. Not particularly efficient.

We ordered takeaway food twice during our vacation. They served Bavarian cuisine. The food was delicious. The pork knuckles were excellent. The service during pickup was also super friendly. The dining room has a cozy feel, which we would have liked to use, but our nervous dog isn't able to.

Absolutely authentic Bavarian cuisine: roast pork, knuckles, perfect, and the potato dumplings, hmmmmm, kudos to the kitchen. Not to mention the perfect Kaiserschmarn!!! I even had to congratulate the chef personally. A must for anyone with a good appetite. The value for money is also great.

We stopped by unannounced on Sunday lunchtime with our three children and were lucky enough to be seated at the last table (the regulars' table). The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!

The Gasthaus Bayerwald is a real insider tip for everyone who loves Bavarian cuisine. The food is excellent – ​​fresh, hearty and prepared with a lot of love. I particularly liked the typical Bavarian ambience: rustic, cozy and with a lot of charm. Another plus point is how child-friendly it is. Our little ones were warmly welcomed and felt completely comfortable. However, due to its great popularity, you should definitely reserve in advance - the inn is well attended, which speaks for the quality. We went to the restaurants based on positive references on the Internet, but unfortunately we cannot say that they were satisfied. I don't know if it was just a coincidence and 2.1. maybe there was another cook, but the food we ordered there was not tasty at first glance. The fries were burnt and very greasy. The chicken steak was thickly covered with cranberry jelly and the steak underneath was not grilled but rather steamed. Another portion of chicken steak with fries looked like it was in the 5th price group. I can get that better at Mc Donalds. There was no vegetable side dish, not even a piece of cucumber, salad, nothing. This is already a common part of the main dish in fast food. It was dry, I had to ask for at least ketchup. Despite the fact that only three tables were occupied in the restaurant, we received our food in half an hour, which seemed very long for such meals. I recommend serving the food on nicer plates and adding some vegetables to the main dishes. We ordered hot chocolate for the kids, but it was just warm milk with a little cocoa powder. It tasted like you made an espresso from 1 g of coffee, I wouldn't even call it cocoa, it's not hot chocolate. Also the so-called the punch was very sweetened lemonade and had nothing to do with the taste of the punch. I would expect really higher quality in such a nice place.

We stopped here after a trip because the inn had such good reviews. The ambience was OK, but nothing special. The first service was quick and friendly. The food also came quickly, but unfortunately it was very tasteless and not very seasoned. The prices are not too high, but still a bit disappointing. Our son's childhood dinner was absolutely embarrassing. Overcooked pasta with a dollop of bad tomato sauce - it's always a mystery to me how someone could make such a simple meal so bad! OK, here too with a price of 4.50 euros just accept it. But when another waitress came rushing to our table because our son was "playing" with two of their LED candles (he had them in his hand and switched them on and off) and whispered to us to stop playing with them - it was no toys and the candles were expensive - it was really green. For me, the sound makes the music here. I come from the catering industry myself, but when I talk to my guests like that, it seems like they don't need it or they have no idea about hospitality. I would have understood it very well if they had come in a friendly manner and explained the whole thing nicely, but this approach simply went too far. Last but not least, my mother-in-law was locked in the toilet because it wouldn't open. All in all, I wonder how this inn can be so well rated? Very unfortunate. An unpleasant end to a wonderful day. - Short addendum Based on the owner's answer, which was also to be expected: I travel a lot and have a lot of experience in hospitality. I didn't experience that here. Point! How we raise our child is up to us. (By the way, that has no place in your comment. I don't think there's anything to complain about that our son then listened to a radio play. I also don't think that they were at the table with their in-laws, playing cards with their children. But that's OK too . Our son is 8 years old and knows how to behave. Had a delicious pork knuckle last night...it was super tasty. .if you can criticize one thing it is that you had to share a knuckle. So my husband has a portion and I have a quarter of it. We know that if you order knuckles everyone gets one...still it was very tasty...all the best 👍

Inn in the heart of the village. Traditionally oriented, but still keeping up with the times. There are classic dishes here that are reminiscent of old times - in a good way - and that replenish all your reserves after a long day in the fresh air! Now you could become a lumberjack! There were 3 of us eating there on Monday, which was the schnitzel day. The selection of schnitzels was very good and the other dishes were also very tasty 😋. The service was impeccable, the Schweinsbraten sauce was too thin. Sour cabbage, although I like it that way. The salmon is okay, it could use a little more lemon, but not everyone likes it that way. Pasta and vegetables served with salmon are very good! Unfortunately, I found a hair in the salmon. Other than that, okay, best regards.

Very good knuckle, and the trout is world class. Everything at super fair prices. Also worth mentioning is the extremely friendly service. If you ever find yourself in Englmar, you should definitely stop by here. Simply great. Update: We ate here again on January 2nd, 2019 and were thrilled again. Our friends who we took with us to Englmar for the first time are still raving about the knuckle. Although the restaurant was really full, it went quickly and both the staff and the landlady always found time for a nice word. Four times five stars for the Waidler and team from the Doppelkopf round from the Sauer and Bergisches Land. We had a lot of fun with you. The knuckles were particularly a hit. Definitely a recommendation!

Food very good. The waitress was alone and tried very hard to serve all the guests in her own way. We were on summer vacation with six people on a Tuesday in September. It was full, good thing we called shortly beforehand. The roast pork, the sausage salad, the Kaiserschmarrn and the pike perch were excellent.

We (two families) were on holiday in St. Englmar and had dinner here two days in a row. Was absolutely sensational! Extremely friendly service, unfortunately something you experience too rarely. The service was super friendly with our little kids.

Update August 2024: We were in St. Englmar again and of course we visited our favorite restaurant, Gasthaus Bayerwald. We were allowed to be guests twice and felt very comfortable both times. Very nice welcome and great food. We had, among other things, knuckle (with advance order) but also a grilled plate and of course the obligatory Kaiserschmarrn. It's all really great and really fair prices. We can only congratulate the Schötz family on this great achievement and say thank you for allowing us to be your guests. Very good price/performance ratio! Unfortunately, the website was confusing and misleading for me because it only lists takeout and pre-ordering and not a regular menu. So here's a note for holidaymakers: Here you can eat a la carte as normal.

Wir waren am 12.07.24 dort. Eigentlich wollten wir in ein anderes Gasthaus gehen, jedoch wurden dort an dem Tag nur kalte Speisen angeboten. Da wir richtig Hunger hatten und das Gasthaus Bayerwald nur 15 km entfernt war, sind wir einfach hingefahren und hatten Glück dass wir auf dem kleinen Balkon noch einen Platz bekamen, weil drinnen alles belegt war. Wie bereits in der Überschrift erwähnt, war das Essen ausgezeichnet, die Bedienung sehr aufmerksam freundlich und flott und vom Preis her ging es auch. Alles in Allem wunderbar und dass an unserem 10. Hochzeitstag. Danke

We can only express our greatest praise for the Schötz family and their employees! Very nice atmosphere, friendly service, excellent food and a place to feel good.
