Frybad in Heidelberg

Let me clarify something: The kiosk at the Heidelberg thermal baths isn't a kiosk. It's actually a small, parallel culinary universe nestled between chlorine, sun, and wet flip-flops. It's called Frybad, and someone there has decided that pool food doesn't have to be boring. The dishes are surprisingly creative—so creative, in fact, that you might briefly wonder if you're still at the outdoor pool or if you've suddenly stumbled into a pretty great street food bar. And the drinks are dangerously good. Seriously. You just want to grab a quick drink, and suddenly you're sitting there with a really good cocktail in your hand, gazing at the water. The atmosphere is fantastic: sun, music, relaxed people, water still dripping from the last dip in the pool—and right in the middle of it all, a team that clearly enjoys making this place something special. And then there's all the digital stuff: ordering, paying, everything super smooth. It feels a bit like the future of kiosk catering has quietly and subtly arrived at the outdoor pool. In short: People come for the swimming. They stay for the outdoor pool. Or to put it another way: If all outdoor pools had a kiosk like this, suddenly many more people would go to the pool voluntarily.

At the outdoor pool, you can only pay cashless; instead of sending kids out for ice cream with a fiver, you have to awkwardly enter an order on a screen in front of the counter. It's like an airport terminal. No personal interaction with the staff. The screen is completely confusing for older people. Only someone who's never actually been to an outdoor pool could come up with something like this.

One star only, because I can't leave a review otherwise. Cashless payment only, fries absolutely bland for almost €7!!!! The best part is the water: they serve tap water!! for €4.20 plus a €1 deposit. That's outrageous. Never again.

Endless waiting time for two ice creams because other people ordered fries before them, and the new ordering terminals are simply processing orders in order of receipt.

Frybad is setting new standards! We were able to conveniently order our food directly from the thermal baths' sunbathing lawn using a QR code. Super delicious currywurst, perfectly seasoned fries 🫶, and really good garlic bread! What I also liked – the staff is incredibly child-friendly. We'll be back :)

Now they only accept card or mobile payments. You have to choose your food yourself using the touchscreen. Brave new world. The already meager fries have become truly meager. The portion is now only about half the size it used to be. And on top of that, they charged an extra 25 cents "tip." Sorry, next time I'll just bring my own food.

Unbelievable, but things are going downhill here: Ordering only via terminal or QR code, only card payments accepted, as if I were sending my kids to the swimming pool with a credit card for fries and the like… completely missing the mark. After trying the QR code, I gave up on paying and skipped the coffee and food. Who programmed that? Others ordered pizza from a delivery service, good idea! The outdoor area is full of weeds and unkempt, and that's in an expensive pool! Overall, less than 1 star!

Unfriendly, ordering only via app or scan code, cash payment not possible, pizza not tasty. Not for me in the future!

Fries themselves were epic, but the fact that the “small” packaging for small fries displayed at the front isn’t even half full borders on scam for me. According to the packaging law, packaging must be filled with 70% content.

Iced coffee without vanilla ice cream and whipped cream? And for 5.20 😲 looked like a Coke...

Mega tasty, no comparison to the usual swimming pool ready meal. We always like to come by, just because of the great ice cream! You can't understand the bad reviews, after all the guys and girls do everything by hand and they remain friendly even when there's a big queue at the checkout.

Some of the comments here really just make you shake your head. Apart from the fact that food and drinks in the outdoor pool are always a little more expensive, it can also happen that mistakes creep in. And if you order a large portion and get a small one, you just complain about it and don't complain online here on Google. For my part, I have nothing to complain about, on the contrary. Nice, cheerful team and delicious, good quality food - I'm happy to pay an extra euro for that!

Prices are getting worse and worse. Garlic bread with a few spices on it 11 euros. Thin dough in normal pizza size without anything. This is really outrageous!!!!

Super freundlich und sehr lecker, allerdings finde ich die Preise etwas happig für ein Schwimmbad. Schade auch, das es kein Eis am Stiel gibt 😢 und die Kugel Eis viel zu klein ist für den Preis.
