ZWICKL - Gastlichkeit am Viktualienmarkt in München

Typical Bavarian small restaurant with tables outside on a pedestrian street and delicious dishes...the service is generally good but not excellent...the bread they bring for free is white, the most common one you find everywhere, which is unacceptable for a German and especially Bavarian restaurant. We asked for extra water and they refused to bring it, implying that we would have to buy bottled.

Absolutely horrible experience! We wanted to go for dinner, however the stuff said to us that you have to book in advance to be seated and they are full. We went away and decided to check if we can book a table. We booked a table, came back and the stuff was extremely rude and said that we can’t be seated if we booked just now. Why then we were able to book a table online if you can’t seat us? I hope this will be changed and if you can’t give a table to your guests, they can’t book the one online. The stuff is a face of the place and even if the food is good according to reviews, this ‘hospitality’ can ruin everything.

I finally made it! After a long wait, I finally got to visit this special restaurant – and what can I say? It's an absolute highlight from the outside, and at least as impressive from the inside. The entire staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, making you feel immediately welcome. The food? A solid 10 out of 10 – every bite is a delight. And as if that weren't enough, the kind soul in the kitchen perfectly rounds off the experience. You can immediately feel how much passion goes into this place. I'd definitely love to come back!

An absolute stroke of luck! The manager, her daughter, and the entire staff are incredibly warm and friendly – you immediately feel welcome. The side salad was enormous – it could easily have been enough for me as a main course – and honestly, it was the best salad I've ever eaten! So fresh, so delicious, perfectly balanced. The cheese spaetzle were not only a generous portion, but also tasted fantastic – creamy, flavorful, simply perfect. Small restaurant at the Viktualienmarkt. We had a reservation (luckily) and had a great meal (Obazda, schnitzel, salad, fried chicken with 'Pasta'). To finish, we ordered Kaiserschmarrn, which was huge and incredibly delicious. Very friendly service!

Good food, vegan and vegetarian options clearly marked. The menu was also available in English. The salads looked delicious and fresh. I would remove the Kaiserschmarrn from the menu, as it was neither fluffy nor caramelized as advertised and tasted mostly of egg yolk. I don't want tourists to assume you actually eat that kind of thing as a dessert in Bavaria/Austria.

Very friendly, attentive staff. I had the lunch special, Kaspressknödel (cheese dumplings) with brown butter and a side salad, along with three small, sample-sized draft beers. Everything was delicious. The dumplings were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the salad was nice and fresh, crisp, and very generous. Finally, a side salad that doesn't just consist of three token leaves with flowers on top. Highly recommended!

Lovely Bavarian restaurant with innovative vegetarian options. Loved the beetroot knodel! It's tucked away in a quiet corner behind viktualienmarkt making a nice escape from exploring Munich centre.

It was simply perfect from start to finish. Dear hosts, a lovely atmosphere, and despite the turbulence (due to the weather), he always had a smile for his guests. Delicious food. However, we found the portion of Kaiserschmarren to be way too large (it felt like it was for 4 people) and too doughy. We prefer it toasted/crispier. ✌🏼

The food was absolutely incredible! We were totally surprised! If you eat there, you should definitely try the truffled mashed potatoes. We had it with veal patties and creamed carrots. The combination was amazing. The dishes on the menu are all extravagant and absolutely fresh!

THE BEST kaiserschmarrn in the world. We literally travelled back to Munich to have this once more. It’s that good. It was just as good the second time round. I hope it never changes. The rest of the food is also phenomenal btw.

Food here was extremely extremely tasty. Some people may find it too salty. I was borderline ok with it, but I personally like salty. The spaetzle was magnificent. An explosion of taste. Also very filling. After that you will likely crave a digestive or something fresh (like a gelato) to wash out the intensity. The portion of salad they gave us was at the very least "abundant", with a generous amount of dressing. The toilets proved to be an experience. Almost like an unexpected rural inspired themed park, with decorations echoing a grass field and nature sounds.

A must-visit for me on every visit to Munich! They have (in my opinion) the best Käsespätzle in all of Munich. A truly great place if you're looking for something a little quieter and more intimate—without the large-scale cafeteria feel that many other restaurants in the city center unfortunately have. Nettes Lokal, gemütliches Ambiente, freundlicher, professioneller, sehr freundlicher Service. Sehr nette Köchin, die ihr Handwerk versteht. Küche sehr fein, Sonderwünsche werden unkompliziert berücksichtigt. Lieblingsgericht: das FAST Pflanzerl. Wir kommen wieder, ganz sicher. Wirklich zu empfehlen.

A real insider tip at the Viktualienmarkt! The menu is outstanding – especially the meat patties, which are simply perfect. Everything is prepared fresh and with a lot of love. You can tell that this is a family business that values ​​tradition and quality. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff is very friendly. I ended up here by accident because the place I was planning on going was full and that ended up being the best luck. It was crowded, but I was seated and served very quickly. The meatballs were delicious as was the salad. The portion sizes are extremely generous. Loved eating here and would definitely recommend to anyone in the area. I don’t think I’d get the creme brulee again though- the texture was far too dense dor my taste.

We were really looking forward to staying at the “Zwickl”. The slogan on the outside advertising: “Hospitality at the Viktualienmarkt” initially appealed to us very much. Unfortunately, the waiter answered our polite question about whether there was still a free table in an extremely unfriendly manner, without looking at us and extremely arrogantly: "No!" Due to this audacity, we professionally rescheduled.

Sat outside in great spring weather. Simply great, cozy and rustic. The menu is clever, the meatballs are legendary. The service is fit and attentive, even when it's busy. We really enjoyed it and are looking forward to the next time.

The Zwickl in Munich is really an insider tip! Right on the Viktualienmarkt, but still somehow cozy and relaxed. You immediately notice that it is a family business - the service is super friendly and you just feel at home. The meat planter is amazing! Really crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and simply perfectly seasoned. A real Bavarian original! Plus a freshly tapped beer – easy, ice cold and really tasty. Exactly what you want from a good pub. The atmosphere here is super relaxed - you don't have to sit in a crowded, touristy shop, you can just enjoy good food in peace. Whether for lunch or an after-work beer, Zwickl is the perfect spot.

Business lunch near Marienplatz, always a thing. The gastronomy is optimized for tourists, which is not a compliment. But there are a few gems in the alleys away from the Viktualienmarkt. The ZWICKL is one of them. Stylish atmosphere, staff sensationally friendly, food top. The Kaiserschmarrn is possibly the best in town.

The Zickerl is located in a somewhat quieter location on the Viktualienmarkt. You can sit comfortably inside, the service was friendly and attentive, and the taste of the food was well balanced. Planting in a different way like in Swabia😄

Decidimos desafiar los asientos al aire libre. Mesa de madera, sin tela. El servicio era lento y poco atento: estaban ocupados sirviendo a la fiesta privada en interiores. La comida del menú de estilo alemán era sabrosa. Debe comer: Pflanzerl = albóndigas Volvería a cenar dentro.

Eine authetische location, die noch original bayrisch daherkommt. Sowohl was die charmante Innenausstattung, als auch die Karte angeht. Der Service war gut, freundlich und konnte auch mit Kindern. Das Essen war sehr gut, das Bier auch. Eine willkommene Abwechslung von all den überzüchteten Food-Event-Locations.

Nice and clean restaurant. I was very stress out because I don’t speak German but the waiter was patient and polite, he knew a few words in English and I use google translator. It worked out somehow and the food I ordered was delicious.

¡Este pequeño restaurante tiene un puñetazo! Estaba un poco renuente a pedir los dumplings porque los había encontrado demasiado pesados en el pasado. Pero la camarera sugirió los dumplings especiales así que me fui. Y no me decepcionó. Las albóndigas tenían una textura encantadora con queso derretido mezclado y se servían en una cama de setas mantequilla. Simplemente delicioso!

If you want to eat typical Bavarian food, this is the place! Simply the best Schnitzel I've ever eaten! Very good! And my wife’s choice was also delicious!😋 I suggest it to top off the crème brûlée to finish with a “golden key”!

Went there purely based on atmosphere and it was close to our hotel. DO NOT order the carrot and ginger soup. Rarely have I ordered something in a restaurant that I couldn’t eat. It was spicy in a bad way - pure black pepper. A good way to get an ulcer started. My husband ordered the meatloaf that had the texture of spam. The waitress was not interested in the fact that I didn’t eat my dinner. They’re not the nicest of people either but I’m a southern girl from the U.S. so I’m accustomed to nice people. Guess I need to lower my expectations.

Favorite place for Nuringberg Schweinwurstli. Small sausages with a little spice in them. Very reasonable and great service from a waiter I've known for years. Never miss a stop here when visiting Munich.

We had the sausage platter and salad with potato goat cheese dumpling. The dumpling was unique - in a good way. And the balsamic dressing is also good. The sausage was just ok...the sauerkraut is the best my partner had amongst 7 German cuisine restaurants we've tried. And OMG the truffle potato soup is a must. Seems slightly pricier.

A cozy bar restaurant with Bavarian cuisine in downtown Munich. Very nice and delicious traditional dishes. The beetroot soup was really nice and different. Very nice schnitzel and meatballs. Friendly and welcoming staff and a broad range of drinks were also available. Highly recommended!!

Semplicemente ottimo !!! Locale piccolo ma molto carino in centro a Monaco dove abbiamo mangiato le famose polpette. Ottime sia quelle di carne che quelle alle verdure, il tutto completato con un ottimo servizio. Sicuramente da ritornarci !!!

We came on a beautiful summer evening and sat outside by (albeit electric) candlelight, very nice in this setting on the small, quiet square in the immediate vicinity of the Viktualienmarkt. The friendly waiter thankfully advised us against an appetizer with our Planterl-Tris, otherwise we would have to be "rolled out" - very nice! The planters themselves were very good, only the spinach cheese had a little bit of spinach. Conclusion: Atmosphere, food and drinks satisfied us more than at the more expensive competition 300 m away.

We were there spontaneously today, completely by chance without a reservation, but we were really lucky that the two of us got a place. We really wanted to eat the Kaiserschmarren because we were craving something sweet. We haven't eaten something so delicious anywhere before, so I have to say, it wasn't the first nor the last time. It's definitely worth the 30 minute wait, not only does it taste super delicious but it's also a huge portion. We watched the other guests' food and everything looked damn good! We'll be back very soon but this time with a reservation with friends and a full program from starter, main course to dessert, see you soon, thank you for your lovely service 👍🏻 we felt very comfortable

Posizione centrale per questo ristorante di cucina tipica bavarese. Il cibo è ottimo, diverso dalle solite birrerie della zona. Ottime le polpette/“balls” di carne e verdura. Servizio veloce e personale molto gentile.

Petit restaurant extraordinaire! Déco très sympa et intimiste, serveur en tenue traditionnelle et très aimable. Pétillants aux fruits très savoureux et à tarif très correct. Nous sommes tombés sous le charme des Pflanzerl que nous ne connaissions pas : ceux au poulet notamment, et la salade de pommes de terre très bien assaissonnée. Nous avons passé une très agréable première soirée!
