Wirtshaus Obacht Maxvorstadt in München

I'm sorry, but that was awful. I ate here with friends on December 2nd, 2025. We hadn't been to the restaurant before but wanted to try it. I ordered the "Böckinger Feldgschrei," and it arrived completely tasteless. The texture was okay, but beyond that, it was utterly lacking in flavor. There wasn't even any salt or pepper. When I asked about it, the waitress took the dish back to the kitchen, returned shortly after, and said it was supposed to taste exactly like that. However, she offered me the option of choosing a different dish from the menu, which I gratefully accepted. Immediately afterward, another employee came to our table and stated that the staff had deemed the dish acceptable, so it was my problem if I didn't like it. She rather bluntly informed us that I would have to pay the full price for the dish, even though I had essentially returned the plate to the kitchen untouched. And to make this perfectly clear: I never asked for compensation; I simply wanted my food to taste like something. So, dear Obacht team: Of course, I'm annoyed that I paid €20 for water with bits of liquid when I barely ate any of it. But my wallet can handle it. What I find truly astonishing, however, is your approach of adding bad service and poor style to the bad food. If your food had only half the chutzpah of your staff, we all would have gone home happy.

Highly recommended! Super friendly service, generous portions. Absolutely delicious. A surprisingly large number of vegetarian and vegan options to counter the usual Munich meat craze :) I suspect you should definitely make a reservation. The place was packed on a Tuesday evening.

We ate at a charming, traditional inn that exceeded all our expectations. The menu is different from the "usual" menus, and that's what makes it so special. Here, the guest is truly served, and you can tell every second that the entire team is dedicated to making you feel welcome! It was an amazing dinner. This is as good as German food gets and they have quite a lot of vegetarian options. We were attended by Genesis and she helped us with everything, she even attended us in our mother tongue and gave us Speisekarte in Spanish :) It is a really good place!

Extremely unfriendly and aggressive owner ("I'M NOT THE MANAGER, I'M THE BOSS?!"), complaining because there were 16 people present instead of 12, with the justification "Because it's not possible"... "Sit down, you guys, we're more!" as a local motto is rather misguided. Otherwise, the waitstaff were very friendly, and the food was good too. ❤️

The Wiener Schnitzel is highly recommended; some of the other dishes do not live up to their price.

Highly recommended! We went for dinner on Saturday evening, just the two of us, and were completely satisfied. We both had the Wiener Schnitzel, which was among the best we've ever eaten. The service was also incredibly friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back!

Not really a place that stands out when passing by. However, the friendliness of staff and great quality of food/drinks really makes it worthwhile coming back. Also a very friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy a bite which your family. (And have I mentioned that the staff is really cool and friendly!?)

A cozy inn in Maxvorstadt – tradition meets a young clientele, and it works surprisingly well. 🍺 The staff is super friendly, the food is delicious, and you quickly feel at home. A little more fine-tuning of the ambiance would be the icing on the cake, but even so, it's absolutely recommended. I'd love to come back.

Amazing experience! Even though we didn't have a reservation, with a bit of luck, we were able to spontaneously dine together on a rainy day. We were traveling through germeny. We went to 3 diffrent places where we took bratwurst, this place had the best one. Prices were quite good I recommend to take small portion if there is a choice, because its ok to one person.

Very good service! The staff took our order (for 8 people!) and advised us regularly how long it would take for the food to arrive (which is great!). Good beer and wine. We are from Canada and I would recommend highly for anyone visiting Munich 👍🏻

I happened to be there because I was hungry but didn't have a reservation. It wasn't a problem, and I received very friendly service. Kudos to the kitchen, it was simply delicious 😋

You have to like a bit of hustle and bustle, then you'll be rewarded with delicious, superbly presented Bavarian-Swabian dishes (even for non-meat lovers) and cold drinks (including from my favorite local brewery, Augustiner). We'd be happy to come back!

Very tasty food, a bit pricey overall, but it seems like prices have increased everywhere. The waitresses are very friendly and always have a smile on their faces. The owner is also accommodating. The dishes, although typically Bavarian, are still special. It was very tasty.

Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with the schnitzel. The potato salad that came with it was very, very tasty, though. Overall, though, it was a bit bland. The spaetzle, too, had nothing to do with spaetzle. It's a shame, because the atmosphere was very cozy and the setting was very, very nice.

I really enjoyed it. The food (asparagus) was excellent. I was surprised that they gave me Lagavulin whisky. I'll be back.

We had a pleasant meal here. It was close to the hotel and it was late, so we decided to take a chance. It turned out to be very tasty and we were impressed with the friendliness of the wait staff. I had the veal meatballs and they were delicious.

Service: The service was consistently friendly, attentive and accommodating. You felt welcome, which basically promised a good start to the evening. Eat: Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to this first impression. I ordered a Viennese veal schnitzel – a classic that suggests a certain level of quality. However, the meat was anything but tender. It was difficult to cut and the consistency was more reminiscent of rubber than of a juicy veal schnitzel. It also wasn't convincing in terms of taste. In addition, the portion was rather small in relation to the price, which made the whole thing disappointing. Overall impression: Despite the really friendly service, the overall visit was disappointing. The quality of the main course was inadequate and that shouldn't happen with a simple but high quality dish like a Wiener Schnitzel. I was hoping for a nice evening in Munich - unfortunately the food spoiled this impression. That's why I only give it 2 out of 5 stars and would avoid the restaurant in the future.

I like the modern feel for a pub. Service is nice, quick and funny. But I think the prices are excessive, it corresponds to the reputation of the Wienerschnitzel, but not to what you get. I especially found the potato salad really boring.

One of the best inns in Munich, we come regularly and particularly enjoy eating new things from the weekly menu, but the classics are always great too!

Seven of us ate there today. Pretzel soup, schnitzel, roast pork are top! Service attentive and very nice. Clear recommendation. Reservation necessary as it is very busy.

Good Bavarian district inn with a clear but sufficient menu, rustic furnishings, great/nice service, where families and card players still feel comfortable/accepted. We had dinner early on a Saturday evening and found happy families; yes, which is natural, it gets a little louder, but bearable. There is something for everyone on the menu. It's nice that there is such a bay. Restaurant still exists.

I think it's great that when you make a reservation you ask how long you want the table!

Update 12/17/24: apart from the usual price increases, I ate a very, very good onion roast. I would like to come back more often and again. 2018: Great atmosphere, great food at absolutely fair prices. Moules frites in beer brew were extremely good and the ox cheeks were soft and tender, a poem. Cool menu, great chef

Another great evening, as always the service was friendly and the food was very good, onion roast, celery schnitzel and desserts were top. The espresso is only for connoisseurs.

Unfortunately, not everyone is welcome here. Preaching tolerance and living tolerance are not the same thing In particular, prejudices are not the same as facts. Connections are not automatically right. Lumping all connections together is about the same as saying that all parties are the same. It just shows ignorance.

We have been here many times for dinner. Always super friendly, always very tasty. We can particularly recommend the Wiener Schnitzel and the Sauerbraten. Both outside when the weather is nice and inside there is a modern, cozy atmosphere.

Nice inn on the corner with very good cuisine with everything that Bavaria has to offer in terms of classics, from north to south, from west to east, Swabia, Franconia, etc., everything there and excellently cooked. By the way, the lentils with spaetzle are amazing, they taste just like mom used to make them. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly, quick service and acceptable prices. What more could you want?! The concept is right.

Super pleasant and fine pub in Maxvorstadt. The decor is spartan and the service is very friendly and attentive. The food is delicious and freshly prepared. The food also came for all of us at the same time, so no one had to wait. I would make a reservation in advance if you want to go there, as the inn is busy. We'll definitely be back.

Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted warmly, were able to sit down immediately and both ordered the wiener schnitzel. Food and drinks came quickly and were excellent! We were looking for typical Bavarian food and we got it here. Both the schnitzel and potato salad were delicious. The atmosphere is nice and homely. Unfortunately we didn't take a photo, we just enjoyed the atmosphere and experience. When we get back to Munich, we at least know where we are going to eat

Best Bavarian and Swabian inn far and wide. Everything on the menu is excellent. Changing weekly menus with also fantastic food! Nevertheless, the Königsberger meatballs, the fried chicken, the Gröstl, the sauerbraten, the lentils with spaetzle, three kinds of dumplings, meat patties, Augustiner are also worth highlighting... Everyone else can get involved… be it fancy and expensive around the corner or rustic and established. Just keep it up!

the ambiance is really nice, kind of a mix of bavarian and modern restaurant with space for big groups. l ordered a chicken soup which was incredibly tasty and warmed my heart lol. after waiting 24 minutes for my schnitzel and kartoffelsalat, l was disappointed. l found that the potato sizes were unevenly cut and not well cooked, since there were some bits hard to bite. regarding the sauce, there was a very strong -almost cough inducing- mustard taste that outshined all of the flavors. l could also add that the berries jam wasn’t actually a jam? but just the full fuit.

We had three types of dumplings: super tasty. We had sausage salad: super tasty. A nice selection of wines and beer at the right temperature. Satisfaction. Then the service comes and takes the last reason for a hate rating. What can you say? Everyone go there. It Is. Good.

Great Bavarian food away from the “brauhaus mainstream”. You can taste that everything is fresh and homemade. The changing weekly menu with some regional dishes is also great.

Went here right after we touched down in Munich. Perfect place to wind down - the beef broth with liver meatballs was so good for recovery. The snitzel was juicy, with the great interplay with the cold, acidic cucumber and potatoes base. Maybe my perception of Bavarian food has been mistaken, it can be so delicious! Obacht service staff were also professional, fast and friendly. Kudos to the team.
