Despite the many negative reviews, we decided to go there with our department (8 people). The service was unfriendly in tone, but still tried hard. The food was good. However, caution is advised! When I (in my role as a manager) wanted to pay the bill of €156 and gave €160, the waitress who served us accused me of being rude and only giving a €5 tip. He then tried to increase the bill amount to a whopping €260 and has already entered this amount into the card machine! I asked him to immediately correct the amount back to €160. He then insulted me in Russian, while the other service staff noticed this and also responded in Russian. He eventually changed the amount, but while I was entering my PIN, he stood right next to me and kept repeating that I needed to tip him more. He only served us later, after his colleague, who had done the main work, had finished work. He just brought a few drinks. Since he didn't stop talking to me, I called in my male colleague and explained everything to him. The waiter then denied everything! 😂 We will never, ever, ever come here again! This person's behavior is absolutely unacceptable. Not only did he not maintain a safe distance while entering the PIN, but he also insulted me in another language and put me under massive pressure to give a €100 tip. It's not just this review - our group will also send an official complaint to the owner. P.S.: My colleague also left a negative review because he also noticed the incident!

Food was okay (tasty but really little). Oh, and you definitely tip yourself here - you have to imagine that. If you are not satisfied with the 100% tip and then only give 5%, you will be really insulted and attacked. Should you go here? Best not. There are other ways to enjoy the view of the Römer.

Very professional, nice service. Seating comfortable, food very tasty. Prices moderate. Would love to come back.

When asked to sit on the second floor, the waitress replied that we do not serve on the second floor. After a discussion, she allowed us to sit there 😀😀😀. How is that? The tables were not reserved. Fish with bones, well, such a pleasure, and in general, the shank was tasty, as was the dark beer. The waitress is not very friendly, although she tries to do her best. They will come up with different rules that are not found anywhere. When asked about the bones in the fish, she said that there is no way to take them away, because the fish comes in large packages 😀. What do your packages have to do with the fact that the customer wants to eat a boneless fish fillet and does not want to choke and die with them🥴. After visiting this restaurant, two impressions remained.

The service is underground. Complaining to each other how tired they are, not greeting you, seating the guest rudely. In addition, there are manageable portions served with East German iceberg lettuce. Either service or taste will pick you up here.

You can't pay by card for less than €20 and then complain that you don't have any change. Exactly my sense of humor.

A knuckle and a Jägerschnitzel were ordered. Knuckle: flabby skin, sauce without flavor and fried potatoes anything but crispy. Don't even get me started on the schnitzel...

Fun atmosphere right in the heart of the center! Good food, great service. My wife and I sat outside & enjoyed some beer and food while on our 7 Hour layover! Also another amazing perk were the clean bathrooms!

Zero client orientation. You sit 20 minutes wait for the waiter to pick your order and tell waiters who ignore you that you want to make an order and one of them says I’m finished which means “I don’t care my shift is over” another one says I’m doing something else and others look at you and never come. Never visit this place again!

We were there again yesterday with friends after a party in Frankfurt and were, as always, thrilled by the attentive service, the delicious food and the great ambience in this wonderful restaurant.! Always happy, thank you very much!!!

Three of us went there today and sat there. The menu didn't arrive until I went to the restroom. A waiter, who understood from our faces that we were foreigners, took 3 menus from the opposite table in a very disorderly manner, without any expression of politeness, just said "bitte" with a sarcastic expression to our faces, and turned away without giving us a chance to say anything. I don't remember feeling worse as a tourist. Of course, it was obvious from every aspect of us that we were not Europeans, but we did not have any attitude or tone of voice that would deserve to be humiliated. I hope you will be treated the same.

Obscenely rude and prejudiced wait staff, I would avoid this establishment as there are other restaurants right next door. For starters it took nearly 20 minutes to be attended by our waitress, only to be told to hold on by having a hand put up to my face mid order and our waitress disappeared for another 15 minutes. I was then asked by her as to where I'm from and when I replied she told me to go back there. For context I'm a half Asian American with my Caucasian Fiancé. This upset our waitress and she even told my fiancé that she was too good for me and should leave. The meal was edible and the beer a bit sour. I can't ever remember being treated so poorly in such a blunt way that it took me a few hours to process the amount of racist and prejudiced things that was thrown in my face. She even asked for a tip.. In summary, avoid this restaurant. Awful awful awful.

Wow. This place must have the rudest staff in Frankfurt. It's nice to see a host so utterly happy in their work. Reasonable questions? No problem! Have some rudeness in return. You want to split the bill on card? Yep! We can do that as long as it's 100% on one card. Not acceptable? Ok, come inside while I speak to you rudely and work out what you had. I also liked the Lidl frozen schnitzel; that was a real highlight. A colleague had Lidl's frozen baked (...in fact fried...) camembert - she preferred that to the Netto sliced white bread. If you've run out of comedy for the day and want a truly "unique" customer service experience, visit this place. You'll regret it and never return but at least you will have validated the reviews. Look at it, take a photo, and just move on.

Beautiful location, unfriendly staff, it was not possible to change tables afterwards, so there was no chance of sitting together as a large group. Because the booking system probably can't handle it - it's a shame...

Unfriendly staff. Asks if we want something to eat or just drink and then complains that we end up just drinking something instead of eating. We sat outside with dozens of others who just ordered something to drink. Impossible!

Unfriendly conditions at a high level. You don't need it. If you want to relax here and enjoy the space with a coffee or a cola, you will be told that you also have to order food here even though there were other tables available. Hospitality looks different. No recommendation. There are plenty of alternatives around. We definitely won't be coming back.

We have known the registry office for a long time and were there again today. It has been remodeled for a long time, we are satisfied with the new furnishings, the food and the service. The prices are sometimes a bit excessive. You shouldn't sit in the hallway behind the entrance door, it's a bit drafty. July 27th, 2024 we were satisfied with our food, but there was no salad. The prices are moderate.

The view on the square is beautiful. The beer was tasty. The waiters are rude. They don’t greet you. They snap at you. When I paid, cash, they threw the cash on the table. It’s sad, because I don’t understand why they treated us like this.

I witnessed an encounter between the staff and a guest who gave the attached review. In my opinion the staff handled the situation correctly. They immediately apologized for the offered table misunderstanding and gave him the opportunity for another table. The guest was so angry and furios that he didn’t wanted to sit in this restaurant anymore. He assumed that the reason for the happening is discrimination. …and now for my dine: -The Grüne Soße is must eat in Frankfurt. -Staff was very nice and fast -Atomsphere at the Römer is a highlight

This place discriminates by race. They kicked me out after offering me a table because two other people.showed up. The staff is extremely rude.

Middle-aged waiter totally unfriendly! Never come back!!!

Nice little restaurant that deserves its stars especially for its location. Waiters were sometimes a bit unfriendly. Payment with card only possible from 25€ and by begging. This is extremely questionable - given that it is the year 2024 and we are in a typical tourist restaurant in the middle of Frankfurt.

Waitress woman with short hair was a terrible human being and possibly racist. Food and beer was terrible. Avoid this place at all costs. Only positive is the location of this diner but it isn’t worth it for a meal lol. Went there for lunch last week with my husband and sat ourselves down. We decided what to eat quickly but wasn’t sure if the waitresses knew we were ready to order. So I went to the menu area and wanted to ask how do we order as it was not clear that she was taking any, and she yelled at me “SIT DOWN!” before I even said anything? Like a mother telling her child to go back to her room lol. We waited patiently for 15 or 20 mins to order as we understood it was busy and we were not that hungry yet. When she finally came to take our order, we were opening the menu back open for a second and she just said “if you’re not ready I’ll come back” and took a few steps away even though we clearly waited a long time already. So we hurriedly stated our order for her before she walked away from our table. Once we ordered she threw the beer and water down on the table and the glass for the water almost toppled. Food came and she threw the plate down on the table. Food was terrible and summer bees (?) were flying around the food with no help from the waitresses to deal with them. Pork knuckle was dry and sauerkraut was super salty. Sauce was brown diluted sauce. Beer was disgusting and sour like it’s been out for a week. We finished eating and were ready to make payment. She made eye contact with my husband 3x and we signalled the bill sign and she said wait 3x. Throughout these 3x, she served 2-3 new tables from seating them down, to giving them the menu, to taking their orders. And these were big groups. The other waitress in charge of the other area already settled the bill with a few other tables at this point. She was being passive aggressive? Thankfully another asian table was trying to get the bill and went inside to get it done since she had them waiting too. We followed and she had to finally settle the bill for us and something happened to her face like she ate something sour, maybe it was the terrible sauerkraut. She shrugged her shoulders like “it is what it is” to us even though we said nothing and were just waiting to pay our bill lol. Maybe racism, maybe she just hates us but she had a great time with the other Caucasian tables and she became the world’s greatest comedian with them. She’ll then ask for 10% tip from her other Caucasian tables too so beware. Avoid at all costs. A lot of better restaurants around the area to go to instead. I hope the short hair lady stops hating her life and random people.

Were only there to drink. Service was partial very slow and sometimes unfriendly. A waitress told us you can pay by card from €25. When paying with a gentleman, he wasn't happy about the fact that we had been told that card payment (a bill of just under €30) should be accepted. The beer was good and so was the atmosphere Place was great. The food looked good, but we didn't try it.

They should be ashamed, especially the treatment of the older lady with blonde hair, very rude, and she doesn't even know how to take orders well, I was left without eating. Very bad treatment and lack of education, I do not recommend it at all.

To describe the service, I can't think of any other word than "awful". I wonder how a person can be so unfriendly towards guests and reconcile that with themselves. In my opinion, you should avoid visiting this restaurant based on the service alone (unless you want to endure the bad mood of the waitresses). The food itself was mediocre. But I don't like it when someone puts a beer on my table that looks like it's been sitting behind the bar for the last ten years. I paid €4.70 for a 0.4l beer that didn't even have a head of foam. Herbert from the village can tap me an even nicer one at three in the morning after consuming 23 large wheat.

Look, it is a restaurant with the quality and prices that one expects in the tourist site of the city. Nothing special but it is worth having something on the terrace on a sunny day.

Very rude service ladies. They force you to have something to eat in The early hours of The day. I wanted just a coffee and admire The square. They throw away The menu in front of my face. They lost more then a breakfast before this review. Maybe i wanted to eat Lunch here...or dinner..but with this attitude from The stuff is hard.. If they write outside a pannel to say "eating here is mandatory" i Could understand 😂

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DISRESPECTFUL MANAGER!!!! Me and my sister went to this restaurant around 8:20pm last Wednesday and because we had dinner before we were only looking for a place to have a couple of drinks. They let us sit down, order our drinks (I clearly said that we were only looking for drinks) and around 10min after getting our order the MANAGER came down to our table saying that we should order food if we wanted to stay and we explained the situation but he had the bill printed and got really upset and RUDE when we said we wouldn’t pay at that moment (we were still drinking). The place was full and he was making a show of us, shouting that we had to leave. Even the tables beside us was in shock with his reaction and he only calmed down when few men on one of the tables asked why was he screaming at us, he definitely wouldn’t do that to them! At the end he gave us “free drink” (our second drink) and said we wouldn’t have to pay for the first round of drinking as an apology for what he dis but when we were leaving a third staff approached us saying we didn’t pay the bill… very confusing place with a horrible environment. A manager should know better how to treat their customers! So, if you are looking for a nice place to have only drinks or small food I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND GOING TO THIS RESTAURANT! Horrible treatment and very disrespectful staff ! If I had to use a word to describe his treatment would be HARASSMENT ! Had a feeling that because we were 2 foreign girls without a man on the table he thought he could say whatever he wanted to! (I also have videos of him screaming at us but don’t know if I can upload here*

The truth is that the treatment leaves a lot to be desired, when we arrived the first thing they did was deny us access to the interior of the restaurant, this was because their consumption was outside at that time, however the way the person who did it did it She greeted us was rude. Even while we were consuming we saw how they denied attention to people who arrived. That takes a lot away from the truth. As for price, it is in accordance with the quality of the food. If you go to Frankfurt, the food, and I highlight the food, not the service or the attitude, but the food at this place is recommended.

We were a party of 11. Our waiter rearranged the tables to get us all together. Pork knuckle was fantastic. Best pork and sauerkraut ever.

As a Frankfurter very disappointed, a lot has changed. Food is more like a bistro with medium quality. Drinks great. Service was friendly. Unfortunately not in the future, despite the beautiful corner. Please adapt your cuisine to the real Hessian one.

Completely overwhelmed during the EURO, 50 people in the forecourt and the shop was simply closed. Nobody could go to the toilet anymore. The operation is simply an absolute scandal. The plastic cups were collected and reused. Juice shop!!

Miss Brenda's horrible service. Disrespectful, we called her several times, she went to other tables and did not come to take our order. When she came to take our order, she treated us with tremendous ill will and making an ugly face. Food is excellent, but the service left something to be desired, in special Miss Brenda. On the other hand, Miss Yolanda was very helpful and willing to help us.

The service wasn't very friendly, and the plate "Ei gude wie" for 12.20 euros (!!) is very clear. Given the steep price, I expected more than just a few snacks. When served, it is reminiscent of prison or hospital 🙈

Tourist rip-off, or to put it positively: you pay for the location of the location. Instead of the fried potatoes I wanted fries, which as I said didn't come at all. When I wanted to cancel the order, they insisted that I still take the fries. We will definitely not come back again on our next visit to Frankfurt...

The attitude of the waitress and the male inside the counter table at this restaurant is extremely bad. They treat customers rudely. The restaurant only accepts cash and does not take credit cards, even though there is no sign inside or outside the restaurant indicating that they only accept cash. I will not go there again, nor will I recommend it to others.

Nice restaurant on the Römerberg with a great outdoor area including a view of the Justice Fountain and the Römer. Food is really tasty and service is friendly.

The worst costumer service I have ever experienced in a restaurant in my life! my partner waited for us to be seated and I went to the restrooms in the meantime. Two workers started screaming at me in German and then in English that I can’t get into the restrooms! I was never humiliated like that. Then they said “we don’t need you as a costumer we have enough, go”. And I didn’t say anything, they just screamed without me doing anything. Don’t recommend at all. We immediately left.

The staff is unfriendly and rude. They try to force people to pay in cash, and when customers insist they don’t have any, then they agree to accept a card. The waitress practically threw cutlery on our table. The food was dry, tasteless and cooked a few days ago. The place smells. Anyone who says the food was delicious, should go to Italy for example and taste the real food. The atmosphere was horrible, they make you feel like they do you a favour of serving you and bringing you food you can hardly eat and take your money. We were here for lunch with 3 people. We found a place at a table outside outside. It also took a while for the service staff to contact us. Now we got the menu and the service staff had already left! The waitress came and we placed our orders, 3 drinks and 3 main courses and 1 starter. After waiting again, the drinks came and immediately afterwards the main courses including the starter, which was also included in the delivery, something like that "NOT works at all". Despite the lack of staff, as the waitress told us, the appetizers should come first.

Visiting Römer Square for a meal. At the entrance, I made eye contact with the staff and I greeted them in German. However, I was ignored. I waited for the staff at the entrance thinking I hadn't heard them. The staff came out to serve the terrace and made eye contact with my other party and said hello. Once again, they were thoroughly ignored. We turned to another place. I am Korean. I felt that this place was racist towards Asians. Thanks to you guys, I had a very unpleasant experience about Frankfurt.

Stopped by this restaurant for dinner while visiting Frankfurt. Located on the eastern side of Romerberg market square, this quaint little restaurant was a nice alternative to some of the fancier restaurants. You have a choice of dining inside or outside the restaurant, but we chose the inside for its more authentic Hessian atmosphere. The staff members were a little more stand-offish compared to many of the other places we visited during our three (3) week tour of western Germany, southern France, and Luxembourg. The food was good, and the serving size was appropriate and reasonably priced for what would be considered a tourist location. Still enjoyed the meal and the great atmosphere of this restaurant. What would really make this place stand out more would be a more friendly and welcoming staff.

Frankfurter sauce "tested" all over Frankfurt, here you can find by far the best.

A blonde waitress served us VERY BADLY, because we were Colombians she offered us Diet Cocaine instead of Diet Coke, she made fun of us and was very derogatory. We are tourists, we travel all over the world, we work and we are educated, we have nothing to do with mafia or drug issues, to receive such dishonorable treatment. I hope you can improve your attention.

Being next to the square there are always a lot of people, so the service and food still have to improve. The price compared to where it is is not expensive.

From the outside, the restaurant is a beautiful half-timbered building that fits the Roman style. We entered the restaurant on a cold and rainy day. Since it was very uncomfortable outside, I tried to close the door. A waiter immediately came and shouted very rudely that the door had to stay open. There were just two seats left inside. The waitress was very friendly and asked what we wanted. The drink and the food came very quickly. Both dishes were average. A typical tourist meal. The schnitzel was tough and the breading came off. Unfortunately it was very cold and uncomfortable in the dining room due to the open door, even the waitress had a jacket on. Other guests also tried to close the door, but they were reprimanded just as rudely and loudly. Actually, we would have liked to stay seated, but given how cold it was in the restaurant, we decided to leave and look for a heated inn. This is not how you treat guests!!! We definitely won't be coming back. 👎

I do not recommend. We went in to just drink a beer, which obviously didn't please the lady who greeted us. However, the second lady who was drunk when taking the order turned out to be a hit. Of course, she didn't bring exactly what we ordered, she didn't understand English very well and her condition didn't help us realize that we wanted different beers than what she brought. Although it's a plus that she didn't spill anything, considering the condition she was in. I can't rate the food because the atmosphere of this place made us run away quickly.

Just a typical tourist restaurant. Haksen bismureh is not suitable for Korean taste. It's better to eat schnitzel.

The service was super bad. The waiter knew that it would get cold outside after 6 o'clock, so he only moved the German-speaking people indoors, just because we spoke English and looked Chinese! ! I can listen to German. The waiter thought we didn’t order expensive wine, that’s too bad! ! The food was very tasty and arrived quickly. The waitresses were friendly, but not particularly accommodating. Waitress as friendly as a prison door and who accuses me of stealing a glass when we leave even though she cleared it 10 minutes before. Stuck in Frankfurt for 2 days because of the strikes, we say to ourselves we will take the opportunity to visit the city since we are here, but this city is ugly and dirty apart from Place Romerberg and full of migrants or shady guys at all street corners and what's more, we are very unwelcome in a restaurant that seemed good. Looking forward to returning to France and not ready to return to Germany

Terrible service and lack of professionalism!!! I almost never write reviews of the places where I eat but this episode was too much and doesn't even deserve the star I gave!!! Tonight there were three of us having dinner in this beautiful and typical place in the square: me, my wife and my 3 year old son. We spoke in English since we were Italian, we later discovered that the waiter was able to speak and understand something... we ordered a drink of 1 Coca-Cola, a beer, an apple cider and then we wanted to order food. The waiter, a gentleman in his 50s, only took the drink order where he interrupted me and left without being able to order food. In the meantime he served other tables where we made a sign that we also wanted to order food. In the end, after some jokes in very bad taste on his part, he took the order of potato soup, fried camembert and ice cream where the waiter, as usual, made the joke: "you eat so little, you're on a diet ?”. Personally I took it as a joke but the wife didn't. When he brought us the food, there were some Germans next to our table, he put our plates on the table and started making more jokes about us in the German language with the people next to our table not knowing that we understand German but we don't speak it, where he said: "look at these people who eat and only give ice cream to their son". We went further and ordered another beer and a water. At the end of the evening, when I went to pay inside the restaurant, there was a lady, I think the owner, who stopped me and made me wait outside because she had to remove tablecloths from two tables... so far it's ok... the best part comes when I finally manage to go in to pay, the waiter, the usual one who served us, shows me the bill (a very honest bill, €47.40, where we ate well) and points out to me that the tip is not included in the price! I paid and explained to him that he doesn't deserve the tip as the service was unprofessional. I go out to leave and the waiter comes after me telling me and asking me for explanations as to why I didn't give him a tip!!! There I felt offended and explained to him that we understand German and the tasteless jokes make no sense. He didn't even let me finish and said "goodbye"!!! It was the worst service I have ever experienced! It's a shame because the place is very nice and the food is good. Finding yourself in a beautiful city like Frankfurt in 2022 and finding yourself in front of a waiter like that, if you can call him a "waiter", is truly a shame. We will certainly never return to this place again.

Terrible service, staff openly ignores guests. I still didn't get my BEER

Terrible service with inattentive waiters. We requested food and beer. But it looks like they weren’t expecting us there like many other customers sitting in front of us .

Visiting the establishment was unpleasant due to the horribly slow service. Waited for over an hour to get our order and the staff showed no interest in our problems. Would not recommend this place because of the disgusting service.

What they brought was not what we ordered. They were rude

Very nice restaurant in Frankfurt's old town. Good home cooking and fast service. I can only recommend it as a tourist.

The Hakse and French fries were especially delicious. We arrived around 5pm and about half of the tables were full. Even though I went alone, my order was processed quickly, which was nice, and the female clerk was friendly. It was a much better place than the Google rating.

Delicious German cuisine, cozy atmosphere and great service! We were very satisfied. Be it the hand cheese first, the Frankfurter Schnitzel as the main course or the Creme Bruelle as dessert - everything was delicious and freshly prepared. Price & performance top!

The owner was very friendly and quick, I would return without regrets.
